    We started Keto after being Vegan for 6 years... The main reason why we changed over was the health benefits. I had a heart attack at year 6 of a vegan diet, and I was able to cure my heart and vessels, and arteries changing over to the keto diet.

    I am 190 I always been 145 my whole life at one point lower than that I've gained over 50 lbs in the last 4 years and now that I am engaged I am wanting more to be healthy again. th-cam.com/users/postUgkx5VQ5nUzHu6i0O5_u7ipyLnCz0lbsSvr0 I am not fat but I am thick and have muscle. I am very close to how you were but a lil smaller but I am so sick people making comments to me like I'm huge or like you said having shorts that used to be so cute on me and now I can't even find a pair to fit me. I used to love shopping now I don't even want to go to the store and if I do I pick the biggest size don't even try it on and deal with it. I went from size 5 to size idk because I don't even want to know the real number. I hate looking at pics of myself now or me before. thank you for your video it's time to make a change.

      @@geniajacobs7519 I eat broccoli, green beans, mushrooms, bell peppers, jalapenos, cabbage, cucumber, onion, tomato, zucchini, sprouts, lettuce, celery, cilantro--cilantro is great in salad. In case you didn't know, you are shooting for 20 NET carbs a day for weight loss and that means take the total carbs per serving and subtract the fiber and any sugar alcohols. That leaves you with your net carb. For instance 1 c. of green beans is 5.6 total carbs, minus the 2.6 grams of fiber, you have a net carb count of 3. Make sure to measure everything for whatever the serving size it. (mindful eating) You'll be an expert in no time! Google is your friend. LOL

    I have been on keto for about 2 weeks. I don't have a scale so I'm not sure if I'm losing weight. I have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and my blood sugars have been normal without medication all week. I like a fat coffee for breaking my intermittent fast. I replace a meal for it. I have had crazy good energy the passed week and a half. No keto flu. I have been feeling like crap no energy for years. I feel good so I guess that's what matters. Starter keto at 380 pounds.

      Good on you Cheyla! I was 300lbs and that also led to type 2. The weight shedding and renewed energy is amazing. My bloods are now lower than the average 'normal' person. Hang in there and you will be so happy you did! :)

    Last year in 2021, I lost all of my weight doing the ketogenic diet. I reintroduced some carbs into my diet to keep my weight maintained and have been doing well with that, however, I have been feeling very tired as of late and just started doing Keto again to feel less tired during the day and not necessarily trying to lose anymore weight. My parents are also on Keto so it's easy for me to keep myself accountable on it.

      Hey guys! So a lot of people have expressed their concern about my high protein intake during keto. In my video on the basics of the ketogenic diet select.myketocustomchallenge.com I spoke about how there are two kinds of keto diets -
      1)The textbook keto diet (high fat, moderate protein)
      2)Bodybuilding based keto diet (moderate fat, moderate-to-high protein)
      Throughout my 40 days of keto, i followed the latter. My priority was to maintain muscle mass and this style of dieting worked for me! If you aren't a lifter and just want to burn off fat, just bump down the protein and bump up the fat macros that I've shown in this video. Hope that clears the air.

    Good video. I decided I wanted to try keto for health issues. I also developed many food sensitivities over the years. I have autoimmune issues and even started reacting to many medications. I looked up keto on TH-cam. Then I kept getting videos for carnivore diets. I tried that and after a couple weeks, I couldn’t even look at meat or eggs. I was physically sick. I tried adding electrolytes and more fat but it didn’t work. I just stopped eating, was nauseated, dizzy, weak, miserable. Then I ate some carbs and felt much better. I think I was withdrawing from carbs, sugar, oxalate dumping plus probably dumping toxic build up in my body. I downloaded a keto diet tracker but adjusted my carbs to under 100. I want to ease into keto now. I feel much better and I’m right around to under 50 carbs most days. My inflammation is better and I’m slowly losing weight. I also have less cravings. My breakfast is usually eggs, bacon and coffee and it seems to give me more energy. If I skip breakfast I feel sluggish. I wasn’t much of a breakfast eater before. I decided to subscribe to your channel. Now back to focusing on keto.

    Thanks, Annie! I've been doing low-carb (not quite keto) for a while, and I love watching your videos for inspiration or to help me get back/stay on track. I don't know how you manage working full-time, taking care of your family, and creating your recipes, videos, etc., but you're amazing! One thing I learned recently is that I tend to get deficient in silica and perhaps other minerals when I go into/near keto range. I've developed injuries both times. The first one was a knee injury and the second one was an ankle injury. I've had to find low-carb sources of silica, like green beans, spinach, bamboo extract supplement, and I'm going to try taking diatomaceous Earth, soon. Anyway, I wanted to mention that, because grains and tropical fruits are some of the best sources of silica and when we stop eating them (without finding silica-rich alternatives), bad things can happen to our (connective) tissues. Anyway, thanks again for this video. Blessings!

      I tried keto diet 4 times until I found the book, Mastering Diabetes by Cyrus Khambatta. Cyrus has a degree in nutritional biochemistry and teaches that high intake of saturated fat increases insulin resistance and the more saturated fat you eat the harder it is for cells to use insulin to allow the sugar glocose into them. Four months after finding Cyrus's book I found The Mayo Clinic Diabetes Diet book written by Donald D. Hensrud. I lost 30 pounds and have been able to keep the weight off for more than a year. I was miserable trying to follow the keto diet and always craving carbs. Much happier following The Mayo Clinic Diabetes Diet.

    I was on the Keto
    diet for a year and I lost 35 lbs.but I lost so much of my hair. Since I’ve been off the diet for a year I got my hair back but it’s not the thickness it use to be. I have ballooned up 25 pounds. I felt good on the diet. I’d like to go back on it but raise my carbs to 50. I’m 65 and am wondering if 50gm carbs would I go into ketosis?

      Hair loss is a common side effect of any diet as significant weight loss is a (transient) stress on your body but it grows back. It's the weight loss, not the grams of carbs per se that contributed to hair loss

    • @KetoFocus
      @KetoFocus  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You might be able to get away with 50grams. For hair loss, try taking desiccated beef organs. I like the ones from Ancestral Supplements. When I take those religiously, I notice hair growth and my hair looks better too. I’m horrible at remembering to take pills. 😬

    Great video! I only recently found your channel and I've really enjoyed the recipes and content. This video was particularly interesting given your pharmaceutical background. I'm really curious to know why you chose the keto diet. It still has much controversy around it. I've had success with keto in the past...then I fell off the wagon. Now I'm getting back on, but the transition back to keto isn't easy--the hunger, carb cravings, etc. Your channel is an inspiration, though. Thanks.

    This is a very helpful overview. One issue you did not address is constipation. Grains may stimulate excess insulin production, but they also provide two kinds of fiber to keep the digestive and elimination process moving. What would you suggest to look at in terms of foods consumed or supplements to add for this?

    • @ko7356
      @ko7356 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Probiotics like Kefir can help. Look for the lower sugar ones. As well as magnesium supplements, personally I take the brand Calm in raspberry lemon flavor. It helps me sleep and keeps me regular! I use about 1/2 teaspoon in 8oz of water before bedtime and that works for me.

    • @garygreenfield5969
      @garygreenfield5969 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@ko7356 Thanks for the suggestions. We've used kefir for decades, but didn't pay much attention to the sugar content. I've been using a heaping teaspoon of Naturally Calm before bed for over a decade, but it has not had the effect on regularity. Given the positive results I've experienced so far (after two months moving to a keto diet), I think I will just focus on the IF aspect of it as well as eliminating sugar and greatly reducing high glycemic foods.

    • @kj7653

    I am starting and it is about keytones but not really figuring on getting into keyto. This is my third day after not realising I needed to get rid of a lot more than just simply rice and pasta to eliminate carbs. I had thought I had started a month back but reality is that I did not eliminate carbs and sugar to a good level until 3 days back. Had 2 significan results. Inflamation has decreased almost completely in my lower legs and hunger has gone even if I do the intermittent fasting with a 16 hour delay between last meal of previous day and first meal of new day. The other thing but a negative, I have had fatigue really bad soon after meals but figure it is because my body is not used to going without carbs. This is taking a long time to get started properly but somebody had said it takes up to 2 weeks for your body to kick into ketosis. It's not so easy as I thought and seems difficult because I have never experienced the effect of keytones apart from full fast which seems similar but honestly it seemed to be easier than this.

    I'm just starting out with Keto and there is so much info out there it is horribly confusing. The recipe books are filled with lots of recipes but it would cost a ton of money to make most of them. I'm not a cook and if it has more than five ingredients it's not going to happen. All the weird stuff too. How can one start without having to invest so much money on things I can't even find in the store? I haven't even started yet and I'm already frustrated. I am not on any social platforms.

    I'd like to correct a few statements in this video. First during the induction phase of a low carb diet you limit carbs to 20 gms or less per day. All fruit including berries and avocados along with nuts are not allowed at this phase and should not be consumed at all until you reach the maintenance level of a low carb diet. Dairy, you are allowed butter, cheese(limit how many carbs you consume), small amounts of whipping cream, small amounts of cream cheese. No milk or yogurt. On a keto diet you can not limit fats to below the 70% required by a keto diet. If you eat less you're no longer on a keto diet but a regular low carb diet. Keto is very restrictive where a normal low carb diet allows a greater variation making it easier to follow. You will be able to get into ketosis just as fast and easy. My freezer is full of a wide variety of meats and seafoods. Lots of frozen or fresh low carb vegetables. Fats like butter, eggs, cheese. Having foods on hand reduces the chance you going to eat something high carb. Don't over eat on vegetables. I allow myself 12 carbs per day which amounts to around two half cup servings of low carb vegetables per day. The bulk of my diet is meats, seafoods, and fats and has been for 30 years now.

    Do you have any advice for someone wanting to start out, but who could do with gaining weight or at the very least maintaining weight? I know my body would be much happier Keto, but I really can't afford to lose any weight and I'm worried that I'd lose weight. I'm one of those people who really struggles to gain weight, even with effort but can lose it easily (without wanting to) if I'm ill or stressed.
