    Omg, I literally woke up with a pimple in my nose this morning, and thought to myself, is this normal? Do other people get this? Thank goodness I now can relate to someone. Thank you Jenna. I do in fact get pimples in my nose. We are not alone.

    As a total novice at sewing, I love that you share your moments of struggle! I feel like every time I would sew the wrong sides of something together, have the machine jam up, etc., I would walk away feeling like maybe sewing will just never be for me because I'm so bad at it. It's refreshing to see someone much more experienced hit many of the same issues (albeit way less often, I'm sure), and just shrug it off and push through. You remind me that it's better to have tried something and learned from it than to give up when it gets hard. Thank you!

    You are so creative and talented! During 2020 in my drunken isolated depression I bought a bunch of dumb forever 21 + nasty gal stuff that’s aged like milk. Now I’m sober and leaving the house and stuck with a bunch of pilly crap I don’t want. Want to make a summer wardrobe for myself, and your videos have been so inspiring! I mostly want to make shirred top ruffle bottom dresses and gunne sax inspired stuff out of vintage bedsheets and fabrics

      If you're looking for something to do with the gross weird F21 stuff, use a rotary cutter and turn it into t-shirt yarn, then you can knit super soft dishclothes or braid it into a rag rug. I turn all my nasty spent hiking clothes into rugs, highly reccomend.

    For turning straps & threading elastic, I use a tool called a bodkin. The great thing about it is that it tightens as you pull & that keeps you from losing what you've trying to pull through.

  • @weirdroadkill
    @weirdroadkill 2 ปีที่แล้ว +25

    A good trick for turning straps is sewing a cord to the top, sewing it with the cord inside without catching the cord, then pulling it right side out and unpicking the stitches keeping it in

    hi jenna! next time you assemble a paper pattern try only cutting the excess frame on one side (page 1 still have frame trim, page 2 with no frame trim) and you can stick the page 2 on the page 1 trim overlaping them so theres no holes between pieces, so it holds it shape better and keep the pattern in good condi for longer 💗

    You could make a ironing block sphere, or tailors ham, with some of your scrap fabrics! When I first got into sewing years ago I bought all my supplies. Now that I’m getting back into sewing, it finally occurred to me how I could sew my own sewing tools. Who would have thought, huh?

    • @Susan-jd6kh
      @Susan-jd6kh 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      if you do this make sure to use only cotton wool and linen scraps as synthetics and silks will burn in the ham!!

    When you need to pin two pieces together, start at the beginning and end. Then you put the needle in the middle, then in the middle between them, then in the middle between them again, and so on. Then you will distribute the remaining fabric evenly, instead of everything ending up at the end.

    my go-to way to flip straps is to attach a small safety pin to a long loop of wire, slide it through the strap, unclasp the safety pin and pin it to the hem of the fabric, and then pull the wire back through the fabric. you might have to adjust the pin to make it pull easier, but so far this method has been a godsend for me. there's no bunching over and over again. i just keep the pin and wire together as a little tool on my desk.

    in addition to the bobby pin method for turning out straps, Ive recently been introduced to the safety pin on a string method in which you attach a string to a safety pin and feed it through the strap (this can be done before sewing but its possible you sew over your string and it kinda defeats the purpose). Then you connect the safety pin to the end of the strap and pull the string from the other side, and the strap should turn itself out! if your fabric is woven or very thin or the strap is very skinny you might experience the pin undoing itself, getting stuck in the in between or ripping through the fabric, so use at your own risk

    I usually don’t comment so I really hope you read this Jenna:)
    I recently found your channel and I’m absolutely obsessed with it. I’ve learned to knit just so I can knit with you, and so far I’ve made a cat hat, 2 human hats, and a panty, I’m working on a bralette rn.
    I wanted to give you only one single advice.. I love everything about your channel but I done like to hear you say you can’t do something. I’ve heard it a few times where you will be working on a project and say something like “I need to add X, but I’ve only done X one time and I had a hard time and I’m really bad at it. So I’m not sure how this time is gonna be.” I feel like you shouldn’t say things like this. When you say you’re bad at something you’re solidifying it into your subconscious. You should practice saying “I have to add X and I haven’t done X too much in the past, so we’re gonna try something new! See what happens!” Love you Jenna! I hope you understand what I mean lol I really enjoy your videos! ❤️❤️
