I have not watched this video yet, but I fully intend to because I love your sewing videos so much. Just came here now to tell you that I had a baby boy this week and his name is Benson… and it was definitely inspired by your Benson. So there’s a new level of fame, people naming babies after your dog! 😆
AGHHHHHH CONGRATS on the baby boy!!! I hope everything went smoothly and your boy is healthy ❤️ I think you just made my life naming your little one “benson” ❤️❤️❤️ brb going to tell everyone I know right now
To measure the length, just flip the measuring tape so the "0" is where you want your skirt to end. Now you can easily adjust the length from your waist down 😊
Wow! Definitely a 10 out of 10. A couture dress that no one else will have. It looks beautiful on you and you look gorgeous. Now you have a special occasion dress for future events. Love your fabric choice. Hope you had fun at the wedding.
I’ve always wondered how the American creators that I watch always find theses amazing deals on fabrics as it’s SOO expensive to buy fabric in Europe (for me specifically Germany) and I really rekated to you when you showed these prize tags on the bridal fabrics as that’s what I am used to when fabric shopping 🙈 but the fabric you found was STUNNING and the final dress is also a dream 😍 loved the video!!
I lived in Germany for almost a decade and recently moved back to Canada (in the same place that this TH-camr lives by the way). Fabric in Germany is just soooo much better! You don’t know how lucky you are! Here, we get almost no European fabrics and when we do, it’s insanely expensive!!! When I visit Germany I try to stock up!
You inspired me...BIG TIME! I bought a brand new sewing machine several several months ago (maybe a year) and it is STILL in the box! I have been knitting mostly. My Mom was a seamstress and avid knitter. She taught me when I was young, but life gets in the way. BUT, I am getting my machine out pronto!!! Thanks.
Jenna I've crocheted forever! My mom taught me. But knitting for get about it. I'm too slow. Thanks to you and inspitating me.... I got a 25$ sewing machine at a flea market today! And it works! So i am following you on your journey and my new one! Have a spectacular day
You can also make straps without turning them inside oute by cutting a piece about 4 times as Wide as you would like them, then folding both sides to the middle of the piece, and then folding it in halve again. Then you can sew along the side with a regular Stich. You do end up with a strap that is 4 layers thick, but especially with very thin fabric it ends up working quite well. The dress looks amazing by the way :)
Good job girl. 👏 I think this skill is probably one of my most favorite and I envy anyone whom can make there own clothing. Thank you for sharing this video and your cute humor. 😍
Hi Jenna, I have made many miles of rouleaux (fine tubes like your straps) used to work for a bridal designer. You can actually get a rouleaux loop Turner. A long thin wire with a fine hook at the end. Always cut on the cross grain of your fabric... Think you worked that out 👌 Congratulations on your beautiful dress for the wedding 💒 XX 💕
❌ buying a new dress ✅ just make a dress for something to wear plus content plus viewers so satisfied watching her make one. what a win-win situation, btw I like the dress
I love how even though you appeared to be on the verge of a mental breakdown pretty much from buying the fabric to the end of the video, you still overcame all of the hurdles and persevered with your project. It turned out beautiful. You did a great job.
I mean 120 plus 24 hours worth of her time if she says her time is worth minimum wage thats like 400 dollars so it cost 520 dollars for her to make it 😫😫
@@JennaPhipps Maybe you can make a fancy pair of dress shorts with the rest of the fabric. That would be a nice piece to either wear with the matching top or with a different top if you want to dress it down a bit.
This is my first time watching a video from you and I can literally feel every moment of distress :D spending too much money on fabric, sewing things together the wrong way round :D I love it.
hi Jenna, just letting you know to measure the length for your skirt, I would place the "0" side of the tape to where you want the end of your garment to be and whatever number is where your hips are or where you want your garment to start will be your measurement :)
You are so talented! Such an inspiration to me who is still starting sewing, this gives me plenty of ideas. Also sewn a satin dress for a wedding with my sewing teacher and made a hell of an impression, can't wait to start again!
Love that fabric! I miss looking around Fabric land with my Nana. Watching videos like this makes me want to get a sewing machine and learning how to sew.
Good job! I understand your exhaustion to sewing. I’m a self taught fashion designer and I did my last minute collection together. I made 5 outfits in one week before heading out. What did I gain? Experiences and efficiency. Draping was my first time and I loved it. Good job!
There was a store in California I used to shop at called Hancock Fabric's. I just loved that store. Some were priced the same 1 yard 2 free. Raising 5 children made my dollars stretch
HI JENNA!! LOVE YOUR DRESS. YOU LOOK GREAT IN IT. THE PROCESS YOU TOOK TO MAKE IT IS FOREIGN TO ME, BUT COULD LEARN TO DO HOPEFULLY. YOUR MANNY IS HELPFULL. I GUESS YOU HAVE MORE KNOWLEDGE. CONGRATS ON YOUR SUCESS. THANKS FOR SHARING AND STAY SAFE AND HEALTHY THANKS ❤️ ❤️ 🙏🙏
I learned from a pants pattern with belt loops the best way to make little noodle straps! You don’t actually have to turn them! Just make strips and fold them like bias tape is folded and then sew down the open side!
It turned out amazing, well done!! I’m so jealous of the fabric choices you have in the US!! Also glad to see that I’m not the only one making mistakes and having meltdowns throughout the process lmao!
to measure the leg/ skirt length, put the end of the measuring tape (0in) hanging down to the length of the skirt you want so then you can read the length number up at your waist!
AHH! That's what I was missing! Thank you for reminding me :) I linked it in the description and i'll link it here too! Skirt block pattern by SophieMKublyDesign: tidd.ly/3OJpk9H *
Wow! Gorgeous dress, you look beautiful in it! And I think it was good that the black straps wouldn't work for you because the purple straps look so much better 😁
for measuring skirt length on yourself: take the tape measure and let the end with the smaller numbers dangle down as far as you want the dress to go- tape something to weight it down, need be. Hold the other end at where your waist seam will be.
For skirts I measure up side down. Meaning I turn the ending of where the measuring tape starts to where I want my skirt or pants to end and the top to my waist. And that is how long it should be. Voila.

Beautiful job, lovely fabric, great fit. Slit seems a bit high for a wedding, but what do i know? Overall, super congrats on a lovely, lovely dress. You make sewing anything seem possible!
I really like it! If you make a dress like this again I think you could get away with the side bodice pieces dipping even lower since you have such a slender silhouette

it's probably because america has cheaper quality fabrics that go along with the better deals.
