My mom took hers apart and made it into a top and skirt combo. Not because she divorced but because using it only once just seemed sad to her. There are no rules against remaking your wedding dress.

Nothing to do with the video but I want to thank you for being inspiring and different and unique to your own style. It helped me be more confident and creative in my crochet (and soon hopefully knitting) projects. I used to become upset if someone says they don't like the colors I chose or the design, now I think of you and your unique style and think that I should do what makes me happy regardless of what others think. That mindset really helps in making crocheting and creating things more fun. I hope you truly enjoy what you're doing because I'm sure you've helped others enjoy their crafts as well

As a fellow young divorcee, I completely understand what you are trying to say. There is a certain self consciousness that comes with being young and divorced, and unfortunately I do notice a lot of people treat me differently. However, I try and remember there is a certain power is knowing yourself well enough and being self-aware enough at a young age to know when you need to move on. There is so much future to look forward to.

I have friends who are divorced or spouse passed away & they never remarried or like me have no children and we are living fulfilled lives. Always be true to yourself. There are many ways to have a happy life and it's simply not a one size fits all. My mother was cheated on in her first marriage and was divorced by her mid 20s and then married our dad shortly after. They were together for over 25 years until he died and now she's 72 and living her best single life.
Meanwhile I'm 31 and don't have or want kids while my two older siblings have two each and I've been with my partner for 14 years without being married something both of my siblings are. I choose a totally different path but can't say mine is less happy than theirs.

Thanks Jenna, for showing yourself so openly. And for being you. Felt a lot of responses to what you've shared. Will just act on one. The wedding dress. I am divorced since 1993........still have my wedding dress in deep storage. Did design it myself but had it made. Also costed a little fortune. About 2 years after I saw an almost copy of my dress in the window of the tailor's shop. Did not do anything, just let it be. But, still can not let go of the dress. Who knows this shared issue, may give me just that nudge to do it. Big hug, Simone

Regarding the first question, I'd day to try continental knitting, it's easier if you already crochet. I've been teaching myself how to knit since December first and it's going very well, it's hard but with practice it becomes so much easier, so practice and don't give up

    • @dezamraz
      @dezamraz 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

Yes, continental knitting is so much faster as well as it doesn't have as many unnecessary hand movements, you just move your fingers instead of your whole arm. Since I started knitting continental, I'm flying 😂

Jenna, the wedding dress you designed and sewed is some of your very best work. When you stop associating it with the divorce and remember that it is simply one of your brilliant creations to be showcased and admired, then you will realize that you would likely regret disposing of it. It's fine in storage, right where it is. As someone who walked in very similar shoes at your age, I can tell you from experience, your perspective will change significantly in the many decades ahead of you. You have a whole lot of life yet to live. The lovely gown you created is just fine tucked away in storage to serve some later, as yet unknown, purpose. You can let go of the emotions and still hold tight to the dress you created. I still enjoy having mine 50 years later when all it brings to mind are good memories.

Don't ever be embarrassed about getting divorced young. I had 4 children before I was 30 and then got divorced, it was nasty. Now, nearly 16 years later, and a lot of heartache and hard work I was able to buy my own home, nearly 6 years ago, and that was after being homeless for nearly 2 years. If you can grow from your life experiences that is the most important thing. Who you are isn't measured by what you have, but it's how you were able to deal with situations, work with what was dealt and then ultimately come out the other side proud of who you are😊
PS if I wasn't running 2 online stores, and a sanctuary with my youngest daughter, who is nearly 21, I'd also love to work with the elderly. Something so special about them ❤

I think I got divorced at like... 23? So I definitely relate to the feeling like you have to qualify it or defend it somehow. But now 10 years on I've had time to reflect, and I think it's just such a normal thing -- it can feel like (and even be) the 100% right decision at the time to get married. But then you grow as people, and your understanding of yourself and you needs evolves... and sometimes that just doesn't line up anymore. I hate that we treat divorcees as damaged goods, or like failures. You did something that felt right at the time, and you stopped doing it when it didn't feel right anymore. That's all it is.
Unrelated but I also went to a concert by myself when I was newly single and living on my own, absolutely was a 10/10 experience!

I think that and the idea that you could be a kindergarten teacher I think both go to show that you have great creativity and also empathy and kindness. Those are traits I hold valuable to me. i know since you already have a career in youtube it's obviously not feasible to start working somewhere like a care home, but you should try looking into care homes in your area and see if you can volunteer part time, or even one day a week! a lot of places like that would be thrilled to have any volunteer, let alone someone who's clearly so passionate.

I bought the necklace you designed as soon as you put out the video. I love it! I'm wearing it now. Not only is it beautiful to look at but it is beautiful to touch. Great job!

Also I have found that eating meat significantly decreases anxiety and depression. Like night and day different. Better mental focus, better hair, skin, and nails, better sleep, more energy. Just better all around.

Wow thats wild! I had been vegetarian from primary school, over 10 years. But i stopped a few years ago and my mental health got better.. but i never thought there could be a correlation? Im still not a carnivore munching away raw steak every day, but i do eat meat every week.

I do eat meat every day. Beef, bison, pork, venison, turkey, chicken, fish are all included in my diet. However, I don't find it necessary to "munch" any of them raw.

Thank you soo much for your honesty. I have only been crocheting for about a year and one of the main things that I have learned from you is to just be myself. I have soo many different ideas of what to create and yet I have always been afraid of what people would think . I love who you are and what you create.

You remind me so much of myself, I too went to college on a track and field scholarship to study graphic design. Makes sense that I look up to you so much:)

Moving warning! You know how exciting it is to go do your thrifting / re-designs... well constant moving creates the same endorphin explosion. A short list to move; you have to locate the rental, balance budget issues, purge the junk, and there is the excitement of the unknown, etc. Did you say you are 27? You look like 17! Wow, you go girl.

Love the video Jenna! I just wanted to say when you went to Noah Khan by yourself it was super motivating for me. It just so happened that that video came out a few days before I went and saw him by myself because I just moved and didn’t know anyone who would go with me. I was feeling really apprehensive about it, but seeing you have such a good time was the push I needed and I ended up having a blast, so thank you!!

My mother in law was a kindergarten teacher in her working life. It means wrangling up to thirty 4 and 5 year olds while managing each individual's growth in social, emotional, motor, creative, and intellectual skills, and at the same time being the most stable and accessible adult some of these kids have in their lives (sadly). I agree that you could be a kindergarten teacher and I hope you take that as the huge compliment it's intended to be :)

It's call being very enriching to them and Yes it's a compliment.

My parents have been divorced for almost 10 years and my mom still has her wedding dress preserved in a box and she loves it. Not saying you have to keep it if it makes you feel sad but you also don’t have to get rid of it if you feel attached to it, especially since you made it!

I am a divorcee. Got divorced at 29 after a 10 year relationship as well. It is really weird because it was absolutely the right choice but .... I dunno. I feel... tainted? Like I thought I would be able to celebrate my 50th anniversary with someone. Now I never can. Now if I meet someone and they want to get married I have to like navigate my new feelings about marriage and weddings and I dunno. Our society definitely has these unspoken judgments about divorced people and it's hard to ignore even if you think for you and your situation it was the right call.
I also have my wedding dress and even though I bought it and no longer fit in it... it's a part of my history and I don't want to get rid of it... even though it makes me sad when I look at it. Ugh the whole thing is just complicated emotions.

Jenna, I follow you here since around the time you moved to your last apartment before this one, and I just wanted to say that to me you seem so much more self-secure, self assured and just less lost than maybe a while ago, and that is just so nice to witness and honestly you rock. I totally see you in a big studio with different creative areas and big windows and just you being you. I enjoy watching your stuff a lot and always get a happy boost when King Benson appears, or Jack just doing Jack-things, haha. Appreciate you

Congratulations on being mentally healthier and off meds. One of the best feelings in the world. Listening to you admitting your proud of yourself is awesome. Sometimes you just have to look in the mirror and go I DID THIS.
On your wedding dress. I dont think you should throw it out. As you said you made it. It was in a time of your life where you were happy and in love. It was made with those feelings. That doesn't deminish because it didn't work out. You dont have regrets. Like you said you were together for 10 years then got married.

Maybe for your wedding dress, you can either upcycle the fabric for another project or 'flip' it into a new dress (dye it, cut the hem, etc.) so it has a different life with new memories!

Jenna, about the wedding dress! What if you seperated the top and the bottom and made them their own pieces? Shorten the skirt a little and add little sleeves to the top or something of the like? (From memory the top is backless, but I can still see it as a super cute summer top.)
I kinda love the symbolism of incorporating such a statement piece of the 'old' you into your life now.
    Much love, babes 🤍

I hope this don't come across as careless regarding your wedding dress and hanging on to it. What if you were to modify it for the day a big fancy event comes along, you could dye it, or add in an overlay, etc. That way you keep your creation, it's still something you can have in your life and it can hold that memory but it's also allowed to make new ones if you ask me!

I just wanna say that you can and should be proud of yourself! See what you've accomplished on such a young age. When I was you're age I was definitely not that independant. Good job. Also, I think you feel more grown up that people your age, maybe because of all the things that happened. I think it's really inspiring to see that.
