But having internal dialogue means you can think, and would be better at planning, and these 2 guys are smart n trying to play mental chess so in this situation they have to play smart, and speak this way because they have to. But honestly its a polite way to converse in general. People should be allowed time to meditate so that they can keep the unutterable unuttered, unexplainable unexplained, save you the bullshit and only vocalize the key point without an "uh" or stutter. Some people repeat themselves and say the same thing in 3 different ways over the course of a minute because they are using outer dialogue to simulate the main point in the same way inner dialogue could've simulated it. If they are outer only, it seems they are making noise because they legitimately are addicted to hearing their own voice. They end up in a loop where they are stuck on a thought because it keeps being externally casted instead of being left in the mental oven to develop and finish cooking, but they don't want the thought to cook because it means they no longer have whitenoise in their surrounding air. Its amazing to me how I can spend six hours with someone in person and they will speak a gillion words a minute, and by the end of the night , I realized there is not a damn thing that person said of substance. in contrast someone can only speak a phrase to me at a certain point in time. When it becomes relevant again, I remember it up to 20 years later like they had just got done saying it. It takes more time to speak and listen to others speak than it does to type and read. Without the internal monologue, Light sounds like he's been caught -- it's almost like a Columbo scene, where the detective very clearly *knows* he's interacting with the killer.
@Wind Rose The "red hands" bit reads like a direct implication L *knows* Light's playing games. He told Light there were letters, not how many, and implied it wasn't a full list, but Light immediately assembled a message that assumed the opposite. Who else but Kira could build *exactly* the correct message on their first try from incomplete information?
@@robologo Columbo is a detective show structured around the audience knowing who the murderer is and the detective, a shabby, socially awkward man with a glass eye, figures out how they did the murder. Usually, he does this by revealing a small piece of evidence, like some gum, or a bit of dust, or a small piece of hair. In this case, L's small piece of evidence was Light's assumption there were only three notes -- unlike in Columbo, however, L recognizes his evidence might not stand up in court. He admits there must be *zero* doubt if he nails Kira or his target gets off the hook.
As you can see, fans get a bit hyperbolic about it, but it really is a good, unique show. My wife has zero interest in anime and she watched it compulsively after I put on the first episode. It's just so refreshingly highbrow. No talking cats or giant swords, just a solid Moriarty/Holmes battle of wits.
If you watch other anime, you’ll notice the same thing. Your eyes will be drawn to the character talking so you don’t notice how still the rest of the frame is.
Is the Best fuck You stare, it makes Light look like a dumb teen, is interesting how not being able to listen how he explains his actions how Bad he actually is to hide his emotions
I thought the internal monologue segments would be cut out completely, to make one seamless conversation. I always assumed that's how it was happening; most people can think faster than they speak. But this is *way* funnier.
That's what I assumed too. The only reason it feels more awkward and less natural is cos they literally are making it seem like a person can't think and do/say things at the same time. Obviously a person isn't gonna literally have a lengthy internal conversation with themself while in a social setting with another person. But I agree this is hilarious
I assume that’s how it’s meant to play out in the show his monologuing/thinking is happening within seconds, and it only takes as long as it does for us. Since it’s normal for anime to say “5 for seconds till this happens” and you skip 15 second and they still have more time left

To be honest it was very good bait. Light obviously tried to be helpful and gave L what he wanted, he surely underestimated him again and got punished for it. But moments like this made this show awesome. One mistake and it could be over.
I mean it kinda just looks like a basic ass way to encode messages that anyone could figure out and he went for the most logical option of hidden message that worked, that's how I would've solved the 3 letters myself even if I wasnt kira
He reacted to being wrong and not the 4th letter. His reaction comes before L mentions or pulls out the letter. Which means L sees light was certain of his answer rather than just being surprised by the last letter. Everyone else would’ve been open to the possibility of having been wrong

Works for most anime. Most inner monologues in anime kinda treat their audience like children by giving throughout explanation. Without it there's more space for the audience to come up with theories and explanations
@@randomassjellyfishbut they need to get the point across to move the plot. If the entire show made the audience make their own theories, the show would fall.
I don't think the whole show would work without internal dialogue. Some of the resolutions Light and L come up with would make 99% of the audience be extremely confused, people would need to pause and figure it out.
Light: It's a good thing I can think 4 times faster than the average adult, this gives me plenty of time to properly analyze the situation without raising suspicion. L: I've never been forced to make direct eye contact with someone this long. Please Kira, end my suffering.
Instead of "you got me there," he should've admitted his supposed mistake. "I guess that means I'm too eager to settle with answers I like without considering alternatives."
I like how without the intense inner psychopath dialogue they both look like genius but socially awkward college kids. Seriously, Light sounds and looks just like some harmless good kid talking over coffee. That is, until L calls him out on the fourth note thing and his eyes narrow and the scene feels a lot colder for a split second, then from L's perspective it becomes a lot more feasible that this is definitely the psycho murderer they're looking for. Like others have said, a remake from L's perspective would be a lot of fun to watch.

If Light existed IRL and were as smart and cunning as he's supposed to be in the anime/manga, he probably wouldn't react at all, but that would be boring for an anime, as the point of these scenes is precisely to show the internal monologue and what's going on in the characters' heads. The creators show that through expressions and reactions and they are supposed to be exaggerated.

True, but when you think about the eyes it could just as well fit with the context of the scene; Light already knows what the notes say, and part of his loss to L's trick is that he responds as if he does

I had a job interview recently (and got the job!) which required reading over some legal jargon related to the job and trying to deduce what it meant. Felt exactly like this.
Me, listening to Light's internal monologues in the show: ah, that thought process makes sense. Surely you'll be less suspicious if you say that. Me, hearing Light's responses without the internal monologue: what the fuck.
Its interesting, the internal monologues sort of normalize Light to the viewer, and make the battle of wits feel much more even. When you remove the connection to Light and see him objectively like this though, it makes him seem far more suspicious and less proficient. L really was running circles around him.
Tbh like this the cat and mouse game becomes even clearer. L was running circles around him but Light still said stuff like at the end of the clip abt making Kira say something only he could know, cuz he knows L can’t know about the death note
Inner monologues arguably made it even worse. Light is so confident and knows what to say. Then L just beats him at it like a child. In this scene L was the one who had Light in his grasp. If he was willing to risk, he could capture him and Misa right now. He didn't know who is the second Kira, but a wild guess would prove correct when the killings would stop and never continue. L could even guess that Light keeps the note in a special place which would destroy it if you don't know how to operate the lock. And find a way to retrieve it carefully. Then everything would be over.
@@azearaazymoto461 tbh wild guessing is kind of how L rolls. The killings happen on weekdays = Kira must be a student. Kira changed his schedule = Kira must be connected to the police somehow. And voila we've narrowed it to like 50 people. And those early assumptions are literally never revisited. Meanwhile during scenes like this that make Light look guilty as hell L is like "hmm i guess this makes you like 2% more likely to be kira, anyway wanna join the investigation team?"
Kira sounds like a genius with the internal monologue but without it it sounds like he’s going “well I have a suspiciously detailed explanation of this evidence of who could Kira be”
here's the thing, that kind of pause isn't actually that unreasonable. Especially if you're supposed to be reading the notes for the first time and trying to consider and compare alternative explanations.
@@sandromateus9274 That's what L wanted Light to say, right? That didn't go well, even if it's obvious it was him. He did "notice" the hidden message though
even without the internal monologue you can tell how narcissistic light truly is "I had perfect reasoning even without the fourth note" ,, like bro even if u did
The most suspicious thing is the fact he doesn't express surprise or revulsion at what he's looking at or ask L any questions about them. The way he says they're "interesting" makes him seem way too familiar with them, the fact he "deduced" the exact scenario Kira faced L with almost instantly is just a huge nail in Lights coffin.
I don't think so. To me, this was a test within a test. On the surface, L is testing Light's deductive reasoning. After all, being interested in becoming a detective as a gifted, brilliant highschool student makes his interest and lack of revulsion seem fine. The real test though, to L, is figuring out if Light's personality and ego match that of what he's deduced Kira's to be. That's why he tells Light that he got the question wrong. If Light is Kira, or if he really is just a gifted student, he figures out the puzzle correctly. Fine. But if he reacts defensively (my deduction was perfect), especially under the immense pressure of "revealing something only Kira could know," his personality and ego match that of Kira's. Light isn't dumb, he sees this coming and concedes the test appropriately. But his first instinct, the one L is looking for, is to get defensive. He can't hang Light with this. As he points out later in the same conversation, Light's odds of being Kira to L only go up a couple of points here. But if you're L, faced with a killing power unlike anything seen in human history that allows for total anonymity*, this is a MAJOR win in his book.
@@LonnyH Also Light is normally smart enough to at least ask about whether a missing piece could exist, him never even considering it a possibility is too much of a "normie" mistake to make (just taking the information as presented without sensing a trick). At best, Light isn't as smart as he seemed, and at worst, he knew there weren't any more letters because he wrote them.
@@LonnyH The actual test was that Kira actually wrote those first 3 messages. The fourth one is fake. At this point L knew Kira's personality very well, so he made a trap for Light. He gave Light notes numbered 1 to 3. If Light had no previous knowledge of those notes, the first thing he would be expected to try is to order them 1 to 3. That would leave an incomplete message. If he ordered them correctly, however, he would get a sentence that makes sense. As such, if Light had no previous knowledge, his best possible answer would be "These messages are encoded, if you arrange them by what makes sense, it reads as follows, but if you order them by the numbers on the back the message seems incomplete. Either these numbers were another misdirection, or they have another meaning, or there is a fourth message that wasn't found". But, Light is Kira so he KNOWS there is no fourth message. Thus, he makes the careless mistake of taking that knowledge only Kira should have into account. Because he knows he only wrote 3, there is no possible fourth message. The only correct order is the one that makes gramatical sense, and the numbers were a misdirection made by L. But that's a conclusion only Kira could reach, no other sane person who could figure out that much would make such a wild assumption at the expense of clear evidence. To add salt to injury, Light argues back. He feels cheated because he knows there is no fourth message, and his childish side doesn't accept "losing" that little game in such an unfair way. Of course, Light manages to slip out of this situation, and none of it was sufficient conclusive evidence that Light was Kira. Even if absolutely small, there was the chance that Light simply made a mistake and believed that L gave him all the information, and then was angry to fail. it's not as if only Kira and L are childish. But it does help to justify L's belief and his later actions.
A simple explanation that doesn’t make it more complicated than it is: Essentially… Only three notes were left by Kira, and only Kira himself, the police, and L know that, no-one else should know for-certain how many notes Kira left. So, anyone else would see the three-notes and realize that, when placed in numerical-order, the message is incomplete, so they’d probably ask if there was a fourth-note. However, since Light IS Kira, he knows there are only three-notes and that they aren’t intended to be read in numerical-order. So instead of asking if there are more-notes he says, “The numerical-order doesn’t make sense, Kira must’ve made a mistake and you have to read them out of order to get the message.” (Solving the message of the three-notes, while using reasoning to not seem suspicious). However, L pulls out a fourth-note. This is actually a fake-note, but if Light were innocent he wouldn’t know that. The fourth-note, when placed in numerical-order with the others, finishes the message. L then goes, “If you weren’t Kira, you would’ve asked if there was a fourth-note to finish the sentence. However, you seemed certain that there were only three-notes, and that the sentence HAD to make sense using only those three-notes. Only Kira, the police, and I know there are only three-notes, so you must be Kira.”
This is what people who think that this test is dumb is missing. L tells Light that these notes were written by criminals under the control of Kira which could imply that these are the only notes they got SO FAR. Meaning, they could potentially get more. Honestly, the smart move for Light would be to ask what the numbers mean or where they are from since L did say they were photographed. It's pretty important since it could indicate the order Kira wanted the notes to be read in or what the police thinks the correct order should be. This could also provide a better reason/excuse as to why Light disregarded the numerical order version.
@@natperXD The main point is that Light fucked up. He slipped because it's REALLY hard to think not using all knowledge at your disposal. To make matters worse, Light is really childish and likes to win, so when L blatantly "cheats" on his face, he gets mad and defensive.
I disagree. When I get something from a colleague or whomever, I try to make sense of what's in front of me. Considering a possible missing message doesn't always cross my mind. So, to me, the fact that Light doesn't consider more messages is proof of nothing.
@@moneymo6417 yes, but Light from the outside does not even consider the possibility and he is not a just normal person like us who just do a puzzle or something like that, I think a skill detective will at least think about that possibility, and L say that he made this test with other detectives so probably has a even more perspectives
It feels kinda weird not having their internal monologues like the scene still makes sense without them but without the internal monologue you're missing the actual intent and thinking and reasoning of both the characters it's just real strange
The reason there are long pauses is for the viewer to understand their thought process, in real time there would probably be less time between the dialogues
Imo, it makes sense for Light to have an irl pause here bc he's trying his best to appear normal even though he's a genius. If anything, while it is a little long, his pause makes perfect sense as he's trying to maintain that facade of a "junior detective", so to speak.
There’s something so interesting about the subtlety of the conversation without the monologue though. L producing the fourth letter really is a good catch. If Light was intuitive enough to figure out what the letters mean you’d think he’d at least ask if there was more, him dodging it completely is more indicative of him playing into an answer than actually considering anything.
When You say it like that it makes a Lot of sense, I've always thought that this was so L could catch Light being anoyed at the fact of having a famous detective saying he was wrong, but now I can see that it can be mixed with L checking if he was gonna get to the conclusión that fast
Not to disparage your argument but your statement of “if Light was intuitive enough to figure out what the letters mean” is flawed. Light was the one who made them write the letters so he is the one who truly understands the meaning. The reason he didn’t ask for more was because he himself knew that there wasn’t more which was entirely the point of L’s trap in this scene, because only Kira himself would know for certain that there were only 3 notes
@@villagersupremacy5594and also mainly cos the sentence was incomplete the order in which that L put them forward. Instead of asking “are you sure there weren’t anymore photos?” He assumes they were the only ones and decides to correct the sentence using the photos. Only Kira knows the original sentence regardless of what order L showed it to him. Kira being Light, he slipped up and showed the correct way.
The moment Light insists that his deduction was “perfect” with the three photos he was given further solidifies how much Light matches L’s profile of Kira; “childish and hates losing”, just like L himself. At this point, L was actually completely certain that Light was Kira, but objectively speaking, only had 7% of the evidence he needed to make that call.
Apparently, when he throws out numbers like “7%,” he’s actually hella convinced. So by this point, in his head, he’s most likely looking at Kira. He needs a good reason to let go, otherwise. But he’s stubborn (and smart enough to be correct early)
@@iheartblock3792 It is, but iirc, the mangaka's confirmed that L lies when he says that. He tells people what they want to believe, where 7% would probably put them on guard, but not have them believe that L's totally onto them.
@@joseantoniorodrigueslopes6979 He brings up the % multiple times in the story, saying it aloud. Both to Light and the investigation team, iirc. Either way, the mangaka himself confirmed these were lies: _Although L tells Light that he is among the least likely suspects with one of the lowest percentages of probability, in reality L is "pretty certain" that Light is Kira. As series writer Tsugumi Ohba said laughing, making light of L's tactics: "The truth is, he's a liar."_
This scene is actually genius. If L had continued, Light would've been caught right there. He presents 3 photos trying to see if Light slips and tells something the public couldn't know. Light is well aware of that so he tries to play safe. The genius is that L is aware that Light, if Kira, is well aware of L's perceived attempt, and moves accordingly through the scene. So L presents 3 photos. Light, if Kira, wants to get in the task force to get L's identity, so he needs to impress him, but at the same time doesn't want to be cornered. So Light doesn't easily give the true hidden message, as he realizes the pages numbers were a trap set by L (only Kira would straight disregard the fake numbering). Though, because he's petty and competitive, and wants to join, he still gives the true message with the caveat of believing the "true" numbering renders them wrong (which would imply Kira is dumb and got sloppy with his 3 part letters). Arrogantly, he believes he just did a good job there. Then L shits on him and throws one out a left field: a 4th fake picture, and asks "why were you so certain there were only 3 pics in the first place?🤔" So either Light says the fourth is a fake (and game's over), or he admits he was indeed acting under a suspicious certainty that there were only 3 pics - that was the true trap, not the numbers. He's mad cornered already, but it doesn't stop there. L then says "You know what? This whole routine I did, I also've done it to all task members, but you're the only one who deduced everything so fast". Light was soo busy trying to not slip in front of L's traps, that he forgot to act his age and occupation (student), outpacing every professional in a special task force. That was another metatrap going on from the start. Light even says "well, I sure look suspicious now, ain't I?", and starts to back off from the corner he's in. He tries to _deflect_ by saying "but this information doesn't help catching Kira anyways so..", but L ain't done and straight out throws another bone: "I want you in the secret task force, where you can get close to my name and identity". Light, fumbled, has to either deny but not for no reason, or has to accept, but not too eagerly. So he opts to deny, justifying "I would, but I don't want to be at risk.. cus maybe _you're_ Kira". He goes in a whole rant of misdirection here to paint L as Kira, as an attempt to both deflect the corner he's in and to parse out if this dude is truly L or just sent by him. "You won't even show me the team or if you, Ryuuka, is truly L, or if L's really there, just because I can't prove you I ain't Kira. So nah, the deal is off". L, though, ain't done profiling, so he says "wait.. I don't remember ever saying I wouldn't show you the team. In fact, I'l take you there right now if you say you want it". Kira didn't know how to act and was saved by his dad having a random heart attack, ending L's barrage. L and Kira are not equals in intellect at all, L was just working against paranormal bs. (Edit: eh, should've done this sooner, but for the ones who're still confused about the incomplete phrase, look at Linh Miu comment on the Japanese grammar)
You wrote an entire college discussion and I respect it. That was a great analysis of the scene, maybe I'll show it people who still say this scene was pointless
Considering he only gave him 3 pictures I'm pretty sure it would be normal to assume there should only be 3. Being suspicious of him for not thinking there was more is a bit of a reach. And you're forgetting that Light literally wants L to think he's Kira but just not be able to prove it, so he has no problem showing off how smart he is.
Holy shit this helps a lot to understand the scene actually. L stressing over the fact that why didn't Light ask whether there is any more notes, but instead assuming there are ONLY three notes /is/ his trap, not the fact that he could arrange the message in a certain way. Never noticed it before, brilliant.
So he’s using psychology smart except even he knew no conclusive answer or proof even though suspicious they both won’t give info not available but he’s seeing how he interacts
It probably helped raise his suspicion levels, but they were already about as high as they could be without having concrete evidence. And Light's reasoning did in fact make sense. L is really just feeling Light out. There's no trap, that would imply that this interaction proves anything.
Why would _anybody_ assume there's more notes? The only reason you would assume there's more notes is if you would assume L was deliberately trying to pull a fast one on you. And why would an innocent person assume that?
I always assumed that the inner monologues take up about a second in their time, and are just slowed down and articulated for the audience. Basically time "freezes" so that we can get the thought processes spelled out to us the dumb dumb audience, but because these two are geniuses, the actual monologue happens in a flash, so no awkward pauses like this... just my thoughts. Edit: lots of pseudo-intellectuals in the responses, acting like this this an obvious assumption. My comment was not meant to be an "epithany" that I suddenly came to a day ago; thought going faster than speech is something I have been familiar with in media for quite some time, like Im sure many of you. Neither am I trying to criticize the video; it is a funny ass take on the matter, and I do not believe it's supposed to be a critique in itself either. Edit 2: I am aware I mistyped epiphany, but Im not a coward so I wont edit it out.
You can see this is true when watching the scenes that involve intensely waiting looking at a watch and waiting for someone to die. A second passing on the watch actually takes several seconds of watching the show
If we take the second monologue's pause to a reasonable time frame in a verbal interactions(1, maybe 2 seconds max), then it's not outlandish enough to warrant serious suspicion. It definitely makes him a person of interest though!
@@agamemnonofmycenae5258 It's more how Kira answered like a whiny bitch that got exposed. Any other, normal person would've asked "wait, is that real? That's written in completely different font and looks fake as hell, no way that's the same guy right?
Honestly, other than the long pause after L told Light his deductions were wrong, this actually flowed surprisingly smoothly. Usually monologues in anime take super long because the words themselves distract the audience from how much time has passed.
The longest pause was Light studying the notes, which... yeah. It would take someone a while to read all the notes and notice the coded message if they were seeing it for the first time. Even the less long pause when L brings out the 4th note can be interpreted as a regular detective thinking about whether to confront L with the "Well, I assumed that as a fellow detective, you would share relevant evidence. Hiding evidence sounds like a Kira thing to do".
Tbf like this, Light seems like an overeager teen that wants to help so badly he says anything that comes to mind.. which is pretty in-character for the son of a detective who also is smart.
L: is he trying to come up with the exact right answer? Light: Hold on a sec L I'm monologuing a villain speech in my head right now. Seriously though they both have them but this shows just how damn long and self-indulgent Light's are. You can barely tell L is thinking to himself
The internal monologues are presumed to be taking for way less time than perceived here as it's only stretched out for the sake of the audience hearing the explanation or context of the scene.

like whats the rush.
why cant people enjoy silence, and save all their rambling for text. in text it wont go nowhere. its eternalized. its noiseless. you can read or not read it at liesure.
but speaking is noise
it is a thought interrupter
if you have too much outer dialogue, you have little internal dialogue. vice versa. But having internal dialogue means you can think, and would be better at planning, and these 2 guys are smart n trying to play mental chess
so in this situation they have to play smart, and speak this way because they have to.
Its amazing to me how I can spend six hours with someone in person
and they will speak a gillion words a minute, and by the end of the night , I realized there is not a damn thing that person said of substance.
in contrast
someone can only speak a phrase to me at a certain point in time. When it becomes relevant again, I remember it up to 20 years later like they had just got done saying it.
It takes more time to speak and listen to others speak than it does to type and read. Little known fact.
So why spend hours talking about nothing? When you could type SOMETHING?
Making sounds with your mouth just for the sake of it isn't human communication.
It is reasons like this I hate hanging out with a large crowd of friends. All of us could be intelligent in our own ways and interesting well spoken people. If Light existed IRL and were as smart and cunning as he's supposed to be in the anime/manga, he probably wouldn't react at all, but that would be boring for an anime, as the point of these scenes is precisely to show the internal monologue and what's going on in the characters' heads. I had a job interview recently (and got the job!) which required reading over some legal jargon related to the job and trying to deduce what it meant. Felt exactly like this.
yeah its totally normal to read something carefully that is important
@@АлексейКазаков-и5ц That's a lot of wild guessing to do.
@@АлексейКазаков-и5ц Could L really guess about the exploding drawer thing...? I guess stranger things _have_ happened.
@@azearaazymoto461 tbh wild guessing is kind of how L rolls. The killings happen on weekdays = Kira must be a student. Kira changed his schedule = Kira must be connected to the police somehow. Meanwhile during scenes like this that make Light look guilty as hell L is like "hmm i guess this makes you like 2% more likely to be kira, anyway wanna join the investigation team?"

@@LonnyH that’s good! i didn’t think about that!! it’s a personality not a logical test
It is pretty odd that he doesnt act surprised seeing random heart attack victims all writing messages that can be read in a way that seems intentional
Now I want to see what the whole show is like without internal monologues for a good 20 something episodes but not really anything over 30

Speak for yourself
A simple explanation that doesn’t make it more complicated than it is:
Essentially… Only three notes were left by Kira, and only Kira himself, the police, and L know that, no-one else should know for-certain how many notes Kira left.
@@natperXD Light could have also just asked "are these all of them?" "So these are all the notes?" Instead of assuming L wouldn't make a fake note.
2:02 he sounds so offended lol. Maybe I'm just gullible, but without the internal monologue he plays idiot so well I'd buy it

@@shrimpgaming1749 I know
The reason there are long pauses is for the viewer to understand their thought process, in real time there would probably be less time between the dialogues
Kinda reminds me of the elevator scene from nge
@@w2174 exactly
But since Light wrote the letters he'd intended there to be 3; why would a normal person think there would be 4? 😭
@@ron4tronto be fair, when you’re in a district of tens of millions, 7% for one person is RIDICULOUSLY high.

Either way, the mangaka himself confirmed these were lies:
_Although L tells Light that he is among the least likely suspects with one of the lowest percentages of probability, in reality L is "pretty certain" that Light is Kira. As series writer Tsugumi Ohba said laughing, making light of L's tactics: "The truth is, he's a liar."_
bare feet in a public cafe is diabolical and I will not stand for this.
I hate that this comment explaining this scene has no replies. So I’ll be the first.
You wrote an entire college discussion and I respect it. That was a great analysis of the scene, maybe I'll show it people who still say this scene was pointless
Beautiful analysis, really peeled back the layers for me. I never realized this scene ran THAT deep. Thank you!
One of the best analyses of this scene I have seen. Made me realize how Light would be toast
Also the little dig about being caught 'red handed'.
So he’s using psychology smart except even he knew no conclusive answer or proof even though suspicious they both won’t give info not available but he’s seeing how he interacts
I think the scene already explains this reasoning well, and I had no problem with it, but yeah, it becomes more obvious like this
It probably helped raise his suspicion levels, but they were already about as high as they could be without having concrete evidence.
If you listen to Light dialogue that Kira is mocking L and that gods of death love apples. Light basically dropped the biggest hint to L.
