  • For starters, this is not a paid endorsement, and I am not a window film installing expert...But I have had experience with it in 3 homes and I have to say it does not get less frustrating to install!!! Maybe I should rephrase that...If only I knew er, REMEMBERED what I learned after every installation! Completely separate the film from the backing before attempting to put it on the window.
    Don't buy the application kit, make my own.
    Oh, and buy a decent squeegee already ;P.
    But seriously do this to your home's windows because, it really does make your home more energy efficient!

    Just did the 4 windows on our garage door. Agree with you that the install kit ($16 at Home Depot) is not worth it. The yellow hard card can easily be replaced by an old credit-card. The solution can be made with 32 oz of water + half a cap of baby soap. The knife can be replaced with any box cutter with a fresh new blade, and the absorbent fiber free paper towel can be replaced by a microfiber towel. And yes you’ll definitely need a squeegee to clean the window before applying the film and to clean the film after it’s up. Overall it’s a great product, but you have to have patience with it and be diligent about following the process, short cuts don’t work with this stuff. I did find the manufacturer’s video helpful though.

    Success! My window film went on like a charm after viewing THIS video rather than the one from the manufacturer, the tips and the process recommended were very helpful. It's wine time here, thanks again.

    It is a fantastic product AFTER it has been applied on the window. Unfortunately I watched the Gila film where everything magically happens with no trouble and I bought the install "kit" which I agree is overpriced junk. After the first sliding glass door application where it stuck to itself; I found your video with some great realistic tips and suggestions. Cover me! I'm going in to do the other half of the sliding glass door!🤞🙏

    I like how they sell us this kit, but do not sell us a rubber headed squeegee, nor do they tell us on the box that we need one.

    Thanks for sharing. Wonder if a Utility Knife would work for the trimming. That blade they give is useless.

      I’ve used utility knifes before and as long as it’s a fresh blade they work great.

    No problem putting the product on front storm door window. However some of edging does not want to stay down. Even tried a hair dryer. Hoping in next few days can get the edges to stay down. Thoughts? Using the GILA spray.

    • @AskingSpot
      @AskingSpot  ปีที่แล้ว

      Have not come across that…product defect?! Was the window edge not super clean, (not just debris removed but cleaned with non-degreaser soap) was it extra hot on that stretch or was the film or window dry at the time of application? How did it work out?

    I cut mine to size and layed flat with books for few days. 3 people 2 to help peel apart film with 2 peices of tape. The inside is sticky .

    When I saw a small Buble I ended up having a re-sticking issue …. How do u fix it ?

    • @AskingSpot
      @AskingSpot  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ideally you wet the area (using the non-drying spray) from bubble to closest edge. Carefully try to squeegee slide it out. If it’s been more time you can try re-spraying but may end up giving it a tiny pin hole, unfortunately.

    Here I thought this was going to be a really good video. I know you don't care you just need the comments. But seriously if you would've told us step by step instead of typing it on the screen which went away before a person could even read it all. This video didn't help me at all. Why make a video if you're just going to speed through it. I'm not even going to subscribe I'm sure most of your videos are the same. You don't have time to even explain things to us right even if you write it on the screen because again it goes so fast.

      Really sorry you were so unhappy with this video. Hopefully the several other videos available by others, and the company itself, help you with the step by step. I’m not paid by the company to make this, it is merely my amateur install. The product does come with full accurate instructions. My goal was to give people some idea of what they might encounter when installing.

      Different strokes for different folks. I've already watched a couple straightforward, informational but bland videos about installing this film, and I LOVED the humour she injected into this video. I, too, have installed this a couple times in my life (pre TH-cam era) and it was a bloody nightmare. So I can also relate to some of the "don'ts" she pointed out. Here I am, later in life and a different house, and again it's time for me to engage in the "battle of the window film". With more knowledge and valuable tips, I'm thinking I might get through this with my sanity intact.
