I saw him taking advice from George Fostman, a retired boxer with amazing handfighting skills. They called him the Mummy because of he would stick out his arm and march forward like a mummy.
Hong Kong comic books that feature Triad gangs streetfighting really inspire me to train the grab/trap-punch techniques daily, both for fun, to look cool and to increase my creativity in the sport. And this video gives me impression that somehow I have chosen the right approach to the game. Many thanks for that, Joe !
Excellent video! I'm confident in my high guard and head movement for MMA but my hand fighting could definitely use some more work. I'll be putting these tips to use, thanks Joe!
@@schibleh531 wing Chun is not mythical it just hasn't been adapted some of the techniques are actually already used in boxing and mma and besides that I'll knock your ass out lol
I wish i can even pick at some thing but these videos are flawless easily the best mauythai striking understanding ive seen on youtube n its consistent n free u guys better study up frfr
who would've thought wing chun becomes fairly useful if you're at a high level in more fundamental styles! So many people fully discrediting it for so long but the techniques displayed here are very reminiscent
Beautiful video my coach, am actually having a mma tournament next month, am training boxing and am a judoka, but the boxing guard seems stupid and dangerous in mma,so this is really valuable to me
That part at 5:10-5:50. Watch Glory 13, where Joe fights Nieky Holzken. The man is speaking from the experience of having been the fighter who was blasting shots and then got caught. Note that I'm not talking shit because I wouldn't even last half of a round with Holzken. It's just a perfect example of what he's talking about. That said, it's pretty cool that so much "it doesn't work" stuff that got ridiculed for the last decade-plus is now being taught as not only effective but some of the safest ways to not get hurt. For a real-world example, a drunk old man wanted to fight me one night. He threw a left and I caught it by the wrist with my right hand, then pinned it against his right hip. He threw a right and I repeated the process. Turned his hands so his palms were facing his body to remove the majority of his strength, cinched his arms up to his ribs, let him put himself off-balance, and then I gave him a little push that sent him tumbling and allowed me to walk away. He didn't hit me and I didn't have to hit him. Though, I could've done any number of things from this position. A sweep, release my right hand to throw some elbows, maybe work an arm bar or kimura, knees, head-butt, just release and start blasting shots, etc.. All of those would work in a sporting context, as well.
I am afraid the best way is not fighting bare knuckles, maybe some people have crazy thick hands and will be fine but most people will hurt them every time.
I'm almost always the taller of my sparring partners. From my own experience, good hand fighting can definitely frustrate and work effectively on tall fighters, especially fighters like myself that want to keep people at the end of my punches/kicks.
It works for both, if I use it on shorter people, it frustuates them, if they use it, their liver is exposed. I use kicks on their thighs etc when ever they try it.
Daniel Cormier implemented this hand fighting approach beautifully, especially in the latter half of his career
Until stipe realized that his arm outreach ment he was open to the body. Amd Jones to some extent
@@andrewb5412 but that is because cormier has such a short reach

DC went full wing chun..hand fighting, eye pokes😁😁..nah,i'm joking..DC's dirty boxing was brilliant..

Pure gold from an alchemist.
More people need to sub you.

The best way not to get hit in MMA........ be a spectator 👍 😂
Even though Carlos Ulberg lost his last fight, he did alot of hand fighting in that fight, it looked so cool
Excellent teaching! World class!
This is were wing Chun gets added to mma not traidontal wing Chun but new age hand traps and pulls
No. Your mystical martial art is still not relevant in MMA.

I love the implementation of trapping in MMA this stuff is sick!

Blocking with hands and pulling guard thats wot we did in Karate back in the day
Banger video
I'm interested in your view on bare knuckles. The safest way not to break your hands. Thanks Joe
I am afraid the best way is not fighting bare knuckles, maybe some people have crazy thick hands and will be fine but most people will hurt them every time.
Adesanya used this a lot
Jon jones was a great comparison, what if you’re a shorter fighter, would it be harder to pin or hand fight against a taller fighter?
Yes daddy of kickboxing 😍 oh yeah yeah yeah 😍
is handfighting still the most effective defense if you are fighting a taller opponent?
I'm almost always the taller of my sparring partners. From my own experience, good hand fighting can definitely frustrate and work effectively on tall fighters, especially fighters like myself that want to keep people at the end of my punches/kicks.
Yes (from some random person online)
It works for both, if I use it on shorter people, it frustuates them, if they use it, their liver is exposed. I use kicks on their thighs etc when ever they try it.
Ye DC is a great example of it
Daniel Cormier and yesss. Also Saenchai. And Lerdsila, to an extent.
Is it possible to hand fight with boxing gloves?
100% you can, its just more efficient in mma
If someone could combine hand fighting with a jab they would be champ. Oh wait usman.
Cory Sandhagen jabs and hand fights
Volkanovski does it constantly

In MMA forward pressure isn't scored you can move back the whole time if you land more you'll win...look at adesanya lol
Smells and sounds a little bit like Wing Chun. Intercepting the fists. doesn't it ?
