  • I was not expecting to tell you that I had another seizure so soon. 7 months after having surgery to remove my brain tumour I had a seizure.
I'm now going to start new anti-seizure medication and hopefully get booked in for my MRI soon 😊
This is my first health update in a few weeks so I just wanted to keep you in the loop 💛

My tumor was also on my temporal lobe so most of my seizures were partial seizures. My brain surgery was 9 years ago. Keppra made me angry/tired all the time. I've tried Dilantin, gabapentin, Lyrica, Klonopin, Ativan and Oxcarbazepine. Most of them didn't work or gave me bad side effects I switched to lamotrigine which was much better but I still had seizures like every 4 months. They put me on Briviact (which is similar to keppra but without the side effects) and since then, I've been seizure free for almost 2 years. Hope that helps. AND I've been cancer free for 9 years🙂

I was diagnosed with malignant melanoma in 2022, breast cancer in 2023, and squamous cell carcinoma in 2024. Just recently I had my scan and they think one of the cancers (probably the breast cancer) has metastasized to my lungs. Having a lung biopsy next week. The things that get me through have been my neighbor Erin who has taken me to all my surgeries and chemo appointments, my primary doctor Ehren who has been so supportive, and watching your very upbeat videos. I am sensing a theme in who the kindest people are named.

It's not just for the elderly or broken legs; if you think the cognitive overload of queuing/figuring out where you need to be will be overwhelming for you, definitely go for it. Finally, a doctor taking your medical situation seriously.
It’s shocking that Canadian doctors were so casual about your diagnosis. They should have been prioritizing you the minute they saw a brain tumor despite the long time the lab took to figure out what type of tumor you had. Canada should have sent your records to your new doctor before you left for Ireland and not leave all that for you to figure out. Both sets of doctors should have been working together to figure out the MRI problem too.
Sadly, we all have to be our own medical advocates and you probably need a few advocates to get the right help you need. Be sure your oncologist specializes in Glioblastoma cancer. A good Glio group is important to join too. A group will help you find out what you might need, what to expect, etc.
    Praying for a quick recovery.
I am looking forward to the Germany video and more travel content. I loved SlievecLeague.

I had two nieces with brain tumors. One of them had to stop working because of the chemotherapies and seizures. She was under treatments and after 20 years it came back again and later she was found dead. Not known if related to the sickness, or just life. The other has had a tumor for almost 20 years too, and it is still doing Ok. I met a woman who had a brain tumor, was sent home to die, and many years, she was a little blind, but able to go and pick her girl up from school, so, there is hope. Today there are more advanced treatments and you have all the possibilities to live a full life. They did!

I'm glad you're finally home and doing fun things. I can't even imagine how frightening it must be to feel a seizure starting when you're by yourself and unable to communicate. I would also recommend a medical alert bracelet. The spacial awareness problem sounds annoying but also a little dangerous. As far as feeling embarrassed, I'd tell you not to, but I know that isn't how that works. Back in 2019, I was diagnosed with a degenerative muscle disease. I'm 62 now, so this advice might be based on age. But I've decided not to be embarrassed about accidents that happen due to my illness, and I'm going to ask when I need help and use whatever assistive devices I need. I've also decided that I'm going to be assertive in getting what I need from the medical professionals. I'm not belligerent or mean, but I do speak up for myself. Life is too short to feel embarrassed about things you have no control over or to let pride keep you from asking for help and not to advocate for yourself when it comes to your health. I belong to a couple of Facebook groups dealing with my disease. I was astonished when people were talking about how many bones they'd broken from falls they'd had, and yet these same people weren't using canes or rollators! I was so concerned about breaking a leg, a hip, or an arm that I started using a rollator as soon as I started feeling a little unsteady. I'd rather look like a disabled old lady than be laid up in a nursing home or dead. Prior to my diagnosis, I'd already taken a couple of hard falls. Thankfully, I didn't break anything. All this to say, try not to get caught up in how things look like to other people. Do what's right for you and give yourself grace when accidents like the one that happened in the restaurant happen. Take care of yourself. I hope your trip to Germany is a lot of fun. Thank you for sharing your life with us. ❤

Don't ever apologize for posting health updates. We ALL care about you and want to know how you're doing! But, I totally understand that you also need to live your life, enjoying every minute, and we'll appreciate seeing those wonderful moments as well! Good luck with the medical records. I would hope that the medical people in Canada would be helping you to get this figured out!

If people are upset that you are not posting, take it as a compliment- they care. Do whatever makes you happy because no one else will live your life for you.

Your optimism is so inspiring. I’ve been chronically ill for over a decade and got brain surgery in 2016 and i’ve managed to be at peace with my health and see it as a positive aspect in my life, but its taken me YEARS to get there. Your ability to stay so positive so soon after such a life changing circumstance is incredible. You got this girl!❤❤

Don't know if you'll see this, but regarding your trip to Germany: I live in Germany and I understand that you feel nervous about traveling to another country, especially one with a language that you may not speak. But I want to encourage you to take that trip anyway. You'll definitely be taken care of in case you'll need any medical care. Doctors all speak English, so you'll be able to communicate. In fact most Germans speak at least a little English, a lot of them even decently. If you have any questions that I might be able to help you with, let me know!

All your videos are brilliant. I do like your health updates as well as the other stuff. That’s how I found you in the first place-I was having some very strange neuro symptoms starting this past October and was doing searches on what they could be. I had an MRI in April and the radiologist didn’t see anything, so I’ve no idea what’s going on, but another doc suggested a Lyme disease test and that came up positive. Not sure if it’s related to my recent symptoms, but late stage Lyme (untreated Lyme for years and years, that’s me) can have neurological effects. Anyway, I’m pulling for you, I think of you and worry about you sometimes. You’re so young and a lovely person, and you deserve everything wonderful that life has to offer you, for many many years to come.

I had a single major seizure in August 2023 and have been following your channel for most of that time. Your postings have really been helpful. I had my seizure in a Home Depot. In the hospital they immediately put me on 1000 mg Keppra 2x per day. They did brain scans of all kinds and luckily found no tumors. Keppra made me miserable- drowsy, sleepy, grumpy, short term memory loss, no desire to do much of anything and I was only fully awake a few hours per day. In Florida you can't drive until you are seizure free for six months but I couldn't anyway on those high doses of Keppra. Finally in March my neurologist referred me to a seizure specialist and under his supervision I have been tapering off Keppra (currently 250 mg 2x per day) since March with no replacement medication. If I were to have another seizure I'll go on a different anti-seizure medication but in my case the chances are pretty good of not having another one. In the meantime, I'm feeling way better and resuming most activities again. My wife commented that it's like I've returned after being gone since August!
I think your trying different anti-seizure medications is great. I hope you find one that works without the major side effects so you can live your life more fully. I wish you and your family the very best. God bless you.

That's a really great idea with your medical informations to hand out in an emergency. It will help you and possibly alerted medical staff so much. It's very scary to have a seizure in public with strangers. I'm so sorry. You just reminded me that I had to book a MRI checkup to see if my brain tumor grew. Please don't apologize for posting updates. We care about you deeply and love to hear how you're doing. Unfortunately there are some nasty people out there, but they are not worth your time or have a place in your life. They are just miserable and have especially no idea how it is to get/have this diagnosis. Once you get the diagnosis it's like living in a parallel universe, all feels different. I'd love to give you a hug. Your beautiful, kind and very strong. Be proud of yourself ❤
