We discovered my wife's brain cancer, after a seizure, in November of 2004. She was 41. We were told she had around 6 years. She lived a wonderful life for 16 years, had 4 brain surgeries, over 60 MRIs, more radiation and chemo than anyone should have to endure. She never got off seizure meds, and her cognitive ability, speech, etc. was fine throughout the entire illness. She lived fully, loved fully, and only a few months before her downturn we rode jetskis in the ocean in Jamaica. Her death was not dramatic, and she was in zero pain. She passed peacefully on Monday morning, after visiting and eating lunch the prior Sunday. There are no absolutes. Don't give up hope. Medical science changes quickly, and you are young and strong. You can do this.

I teach medical students about bedside manner and I have to agree with @marianarias313 - this is not how you do this. He actually gave you some good news: you have more than a decade ahead of you and they have a plan for you to make it as long as possible. But the way he basically kept taking away these other hopeful opportunities and made you focus on the most miserable scenario is heartbreaking to hear. Like @mbprim said, there are weekly advances in cancer treatment and a decade is a long time for these advances to happen. So please, Éireann, keep up the hope, there are very sound arguments for it.
I'm in the same situation. 49 and diagnosed 2 months ago stage 4 melanoma and recent brain MRI showed cancer. It's so scary and so lonely I get it. I feel everything you are saying and going through. I'll pray for you, please pray for me. Lets fight...miracles can happen.
My friends dad has brain cancer and he got 6 months. That was 25 years ago he is still around. It really does happen. Doctors aren’t always right. You are amazing BTW.

My husbands friend has a brain tumour. He's still alive after 20 years. I know he's in the minority ,with this type of tumour, But there is hope! i know such a case, too (really! i am not lying!). they said he would die from a brain tumor (brain stem) in a year. after almost 15 years he is still alive. he cant work anymore, but he is fine. i know he loves gardening so i give him a plant as a present whenever a family member visits me. i am not sure but i think he undergoes some novel treatment now.
As a Nurse, I can honestly say if a doctor discourages you from getting a second or third opinion, that is a huge red flag that that doctor is not the one for you. Any doctor, who knows what they are really talking about, welcomes their patients to get a second opinion. Don't give up. A lot can happen in 10 years with research for any and all cancers. You can do this and live a long, happy life. Never count yourself out. Sending all my love and good wishes to you. ❤️
As a pediatric physician, my opinion is that a physician who uses the word 'never' is an automatic indication for a second opinion. Even if your oncologist is correct, "never" is not a medical term. If you ask a doctor for a second opinion and they say "you probably shouldn't," and it's a life changing diagnosis, GO GET ANOTHER OPINION. It's worth the time, embarrassment, and money. When I finished medical training, I buried patients with the same diagnosis that is curable today and it's been less than a decade. Thanks.

Dearest Éireann, I can't tell you how distressing I found it to watch this video and see you so upset and in despair and offered so little hope by the doctors in Ireland. I've read a number of comments already left before posting this and like everyone else, I think you should get a second opinion. Doctors can often be wrong. The ones in our village in North Wales were wrong telling my wife the "good news" that her malignant melanoma (the worst skin cancer you can get) was nothing to worry about and not worth removing. She nearly died as a result and Soph and Thomas nearly lost their mother. Thank God, she is still with us five years later. I wish I could say something positive to you that could change things - we all do. But I just can't right now. I will say this - I admire you more than ever (if that's possible) - even in the depths of your grief and despair you're helping inspire the rest of us to live our lives to the full and not to wait for a reality check slapping us in the face. Thank you for making me - and many others - better people than we would otherwise be. I hope you can put my donation to a worthy cause - and that worthy cause is YOU and Devin. My friend was diagnosed with leukemia at 17 and doctors told him he would never live more than 5 years. He's now 42, has a beautiful kid and is a great father. Meanwhile, another friend died young and healthy while sleeping, his heart just stopped for no reason. Life is like this, and no one knows what the future holds. @pololikikuju Really? Thats where you go with this? Guess what. I had a friend suddenly pass from a heart attack at 20. He was healthy, no known issues whatsoever. His heart suddenly failed. It was 2000. Sometimes that stuff unfortunately just happens. And when youre working with a huge population like "everyone of a country" theres going to be unexpected heart related deaths of otherwise healthy young people. Because those things just happen. But since covid happened, people want to tie every out of nowhere severe medical event to that vaccine.

The commands from the high power are clear: "So then, in everything treat others the same way you want them to treat you,..." but people do exactly the very opposite. it's not about a belief, it's about will (unfair judgment) and behaviour: "By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain."
11 years of survival is not that bad though....... comparing it with the much more common heart failure (which can come a shitload, really, a SHITLOAD of different reasons at ANY age basically, and in the USofA i think 5% of all people living there have it in some degree) where the average survival is just shy of 4,5 years, and that disease have really-really nasty'n horrible "flareups", when you can't breathe, can't leave bed because your heart muscle is so weak you feel like you're having a heart stoppage (cardiac arrest) constantly, and you obviously can't do anything "fun" because it puts too much strain on your heart. And those flareups keep on going for months on end, and then you get like 2-3 better months, then hell comes back, only every consecutive time ever more viciously....... the one lucky thing is that there are quite potent medications to treat it nowadays, like loop diuretics and amiodarone...... but still, it is a horrible way to go, if you manage to keep lucidity near the end.
I am a survivor of a brain giloma, located inside of my brain stem. I was diagnosed when I was five, I am now 26. The doctors told my mother I was going to either be blind, deaf, or mute, or a combination, I am none of those things. I am terribly sorry you are experiencing this, no one should experience this, but, the bell hasnt rung yet. You can survive this, do not give up hope. I had a less than 00.1% chance of even surviving, and here I am today, typing to you. Just keep fighting no matter what.

I work within child cancer research and there is so much going on right now within the research field! I don't know if you, for example, have heard of Whole Genome Sequencing? Where I work we have a new centre for real high tech stuff. And I heard that a boy with Pontine glioma recently was cured from it! And it earlier was incurable. Just wanted to share this! ❤️
Please please please please get a second opinion, and maybe a third. Shame on that oncologist for saying those things to you and intentionally telling you there is no hope. They absolutely don't know that - it is all statistics, and odds, and nothing is for sure (as many others have already commented). I recommend reading the book "The Expectation Effect" by David Robson. It is an outstanding book that is completely based in science. There is enormous power in belief - use it.

I was diagnosed with cancer when I was 29. I am a cancer survivor as I'm now a 64 year old granny. 11 years is quite long and medicine will get better. You should always stay optimistic ❤. Sometimes you will worry and its normal, but meditate, do deep breathing exerxises, and eat brain foods. Keep a low sugar Diet, because cancer needs glucose from sugar to grow and spread. Cancer can be starved if we eat alot of vegetables and organic grass fed meats, nuts, sardines, salmon, high in omega 3, and free range organic chicken eggs. Eat fruits high in vitamin C but low on the glycemic index such as watrmelon, blueberries, black berries, apples, kiwi and others. Fruits helps to power our immune system, powers your líver and kidney to detoxify the blood and allow the body to heal, and take in more oxygen. My husband’s oncologist always told us that they can only tell us what Science says. Everyone is different and all one can do is work on getting stronger. My husband was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2004 and given 3-6 months. He celebrated his 20th alive-iversary on September 29th! Doctors cannot predict your outcome because your spirit matters! Also KEEP advocating for yourself and getting more opinions that is what we have done and we keep finding answers that help us keep going and finding hope. My husband was told the past 4years his tumor that recurred in 2021 was inoperable by countless doctors and yet we kept asking and searching for answers and found an amazing surgeon who felt confident he could get most of the tumor out and September 12th they removed ALL of the tumor!! My Aunt has stage 4 cancer and the doctors told her she would be dead in 6 months, but now it's been 18 years later and she's still alive. Don't take 11 years as a maximum lifespan, take it as a minimum. I will live at least 11 years at the minimum. - As for the cognitive decline, as you age you get mentally slower regardless. I'm 41 now and I do not feel as sharp as I was in my 20s. Your case is more extreme of course, but naturally you would get less sharp mentally anyway, just think of it as a little worse than average. Everyone has to deal with bad things in their lives and this is your random bad life modifier. It is also possible more cures come out for cancer within the next decade that could cure yours. I'm hoping for the best for you!

To be honest, only from the way you previously spoke about your cancer, I figured you prognostic was under 2 years. But girl, 11 years is so hopeful!! Medecine advances so much in a decade! Don’t listen to the doctors because my sister was told the very same thing and she lived a good life of 40 more years. She worked , lived her life, enjoyed friends. Medicine is always advancing and I strongly believe there will be a breakthrough for you. Most importantly, acknowledge and cling to God.

My husband was diagnosed with brain cancer following a series of absent seizures and an MRI in 2017. It was extremely hard news to swallow - he was 23 at the time and healthy as could be. They were unable to determine what kind of tumor it was, aside from the fact that it was quite aggressive. He took chemo and radiation, had 2 brain surgeries within a few months of each other, and he was told he’d be on anti-seizure meds for the rest of his life. 7 years later, his MRIs continue to come back clear and he is officially off his anti-seizure meds. Of course every case is different, but I truly hope that you can find it in yourself to hold onto hope, and the knowledge that things do not always go the way they’re expected to go. I wish I had anything more meaningful to say, but I am rooting for you, and I will be thinking of you and your loved ones ❤ I’m so glad you have a good support system
isn't that much of a time as you think it is , time flys by 😭 but its better then nothing. Some people only get few months. It is still a guess by the doctor , as she might live abit longer then that or less :( ( I hope she lives longer but the reailty is not even the doctor knows for sure, it is an educated guess. It isnt set in stone.

I don’t know if you can but research oncologist and get that 2nd opinion. No one should say that whether they are confident or not. Call them get a referral or call the oncologist anywhere you want and get an appointment. I’m a nurse in the US and work with high risk pregnancies patients or babies. Our patients ask for 2nd opinion we get it that day. We work to make it happen because sometimes other Doctors have different experiences and outcomes. I can honestly say that the world of genetics and cancer research has exploded in the past few years. Never give up hope. New discoveries come out all the time. New research studies as well. You are a beautiful young woman and have an amazing family and partner. Let them love on you and on those foggy days give yourself grace and realize this doesn’t define you. The seizure medication he has no idea if you will need it long term. He has given you statistics and worst case scenario. Sometimes Doctors do that but in any set of medical conditions there are those that defy the odds. Put in the research and find a credible oncologist that specializes in this type of cancer and see them. Easily some of our patients we could say you will die before giving birth. We have cancers, heart conditions that are bad, kidney failure, transplants and some with multiple other things. Some make it and live a good while. One thing about medicine is it isn’t always black and white. Cry if you need to actually it releases endorphins and can help. See a therapist you like and who is supportive of you. Tell them your goals they can help you handle what is going on giving you a safe place to cry, be angry or however you feel without judgement. They should if not get a new one. I certainly will keep you, your family, your friends, and the medical team better in my prayers, or send out good energy to the world.

I remember when Magic Johnson was diagnosed with HIV back in the 90s. At that time it was a death sentence and Nobody would have believed he would still be around here in 2024 and healthy. In the medical world, eleven years is a long time and there is every reason to have hope.
Yes, I remember too. It wasn't "if" he would die, it was how soon. Now HIV is considered a condition that can be managed well and people lead full healthy lives.
My aunt lived with brain cancer for 25 years after being told she had less than 6 months to live. Not everyone is so lucky but it does happen. And as others have said, medicine knows so much more now than it did then and the same will be true in the years to come.

When doctors tell patients they only have a few months to live, is it because they physically LOOK like they will die in the near future??.. I ask because my mom was just put on hospice care 😢. She has ovarian cancer and pancreatic cancer. The chemo was initially working, then they switched it to another chemo drug and health has declined a lot. Now they’re telling us there’s nothing else they can do and to just let her die.

Oh, sweetie. I'm old but I've had a lot of cancer. Right now your perspective is so fresh and raw with the news of the disease process. Try not to panic. You have time to adapt and accept the diagnosis. There is a place of peace in your future, regardless the outcome.
In korea. 15 years old girl that doctors gave up everything had the terminal brain cancer. It was impossible for her to use chemical or radiation anything..Her mother decided not to wait die . But she gave 3600mg mebendazole 30ml sesami seed oil 400mg cimetine for 5 days in a week. 48-60mg ivermectin a day for 2 days and everyday 4mg naltrexone 5000iu vitamind 800mg phterostilbene 2000mg quercetin 400mg egcg 1000mg metformin 1000mg omega3 1000mg meriva curcumin 1200mg tudca and before going to bed her mother gave 100mg melatonin (to 300mg sometimes) vitamin b complex. 15 years old girl cured the terminal brain cancer within 5 months. Now she is healthy. No cancer cells in her body at all In usa. Instead of mebendazole. You can take fenbendazole. It is same medicine.

Dear Éireann, My brother is going through treatment for a Astrocytoma grade 2/3, that's also a brain tumor, for the second time. The first time was 13 years ago, and back then, they gave him 2 years to live. But he is still here, fighting and LIVING. He has 3 kids and wants to see them grow. The one thing that we all learned with this battle is that no one never knows anything for sure. Don't give up. You are not alone.
This was a difficult watch - to see somebody not much older than I be in such a position breaks my heart. I cannot begin to imagine what you go through on the daily but I admire your strength and courage. I wish you a million happy memories and a life full of joy.
I also have a brain tumor and ignored your warnings. What you said in the end about enjoying every moment is so incredibly true. That is what keeps me going is being so grateful for the time I have with my family.
@@FGBMatt I am sorry ! I also had a brain tumour that went undiagnosed until I was days away from dying of a brain a hemmorage because the tumour had grown to be the size of a clementine. . No doctors would listen to me . And i had stroke symptoms for 1 year. And like 30 other symptoms. Self advocation is sooooooooo important. What county do you live in ? Just curious about the health care system . I had 12 hour brain surgery and have 10 percent left so I can still use the left side of my body with no issues. That will be monitored forever.. all I lost was a year of my life and my left side hearing . It was benign and I had never been soooooo greatful to hear that. I pray for you and everyone else that has a cancer diagnoses of the brain. Or anywhere. Any time I feel scared I just remind myself that there are so many people out there that have it much worse. In korea. 15 years old girl that doctors gave up everything had the terminal brain cancer. It was impossible for her to use chemical or radiation anything..Her mother decided not to wait die . But she gave 3600mg mebendazole 30ml sesami seed oil 400mg cimetine for 5 days in a week. 48-60mg ivermectin a day for 2 days and everyday 4mg naltrexone 5000iu vitamind 800mg phterostilbene 2000mg quercetin 400mg egcg 1000mg metformin 1000mg omega3 1000mg meriva curcumin 1200mg tudca and before going to bed her mother gave 100mg melatonin (to 300mg sometimes) vitamin b complex. 15 years old girl cured the terminal brain cancer within 5 months. Now she is healthy. No cancer cells in her body at all In usa. Instead of mebendazole. You can take fenbendazole. It is same medicine.

Sometimes there is just not a lot to say, other than we are listening and we care. You are a kind, sweet soul and everything you feel is valid. As a medical student specializing in oncology, I can assure you that cancer advancements are happening weekly. I pray that in a few years, there will be a safe and effective treatment for you. Sending lots of love- this is just a difficult, confusing, frustrating situation for you. I do recommend more opinions if you have the means. It never hurts.
I don’t think that first part of your initial sentence was very appropriate. Thats not very kind or helpful to someone who had to be devastating news. “ sometimes there is no a lot to say” should not be the way we handle human care when breaking the news of sometime’s lifespan.
I work at a pharmacy and one of my patients told me, he had pancreatic cancer and there isn't much time left. I don't know how, but this person is still alive and kicking. It was ten years ago he told me about his illness. Don't lose hope 🍀💚

My son was misdiagnosed and told he would not live to be 10 years old. Now he is 13 and he is too sweet and too good, he has epilepsy, he loves animals, he is interested in the meaning of life and helping others. Shame on that doctor for taking away your hope, that should never happen. Science is advancing and with that there is time for new discoveries and treatments. Don’t give up, attitude is everything. I’m sending good thoughts and love as you navigate this disease.
Doctors have a responsibility to tell the truth to their best of their current knowledge. They can ofc sugarcoat it with optimism about the possible progress of science but fast and clearcut progress is not a given. They were very optimistic in the 80s about cancer being totally curable in the 2000s and did not happen. Unfortunately progress in science is absolutely unpredictable and not linear.
Doctors lack empathy, I still haven't forgiven my grandma's Doctor when she had colon cancer, he basically told her that she wasn't gonna live as long as she wanted to.
I would never stick with a doctor that made me feel hopeless. It is very important to remain hopeful and to have somebody caring for you that actually...cares. EDITED TO ADD: Please look up Stephanie Seban. She got diagnosed with terminal breast cancer in June 2011 and is thriving today even though the chances that she had of making it even 5 years were very low. She has many great philosophies related to this.
@@winifix There are plenty of honest doctors who also don't pretend they have a crystal ball to say exactly the number of years somebody will live and that there is no hope of any medical advances in that period.

As a medical student, I have been told that the idea of doctors "predicting" the number of years a patient has 'left' is practically never something that should be brought up in an appointment; because disregarding the impossibility of giving a 100% guarantee, it also simply serves no positive purpose whatsoever. My aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer in her 50's and she made a complete recovery and has been cancer free for years, and her morale throughout the entire treatment protocol was shockingly positive. Stress has been shown to be associated with an uncountable number of diseases, and it's foolish and dishonest to claim that it plays no role in the recovery process of any patient with practically any disease. Also, I just read your comment from a few hours ago on this channel, and I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis and the difficulty you've had to go through with that surgery, and having to abide by less "surgical" and tangible treatment regimens since you can't have a third surgery. The world has changed so much in the last 20 years, as has medicine, and treatment methods have grown to be much more effective and with less side effects than how they used to be. I will not ask or encourage you blindly to "Oh be positive, have hope! Live, laugh, love!" etc etc, if it's against what you're feeling right now and would only feel worse to hear that - it's important to feel your feelings and there's no better feelings to feel, the bad and the good. But what I hope is that you try to trust the process, advocate for your own health, and harbor no feelings of guilt nor resentment towards yourself. And I wish you nothing but the best on your journey towards improvement, recovery, and hopefully being tumor-free once again.
My husband was diagnosed 15 years ago with a brain tumour and the median lifespan was 11 years. After ten years he did the radiation chemo combo for 18 mos and his tumour has been stable since the end of his treatment. We also were just told that he may now qualify for new trials after all these years new research and new trials have starts. Every tumour is different and acts differently in a different body and there is no way that they know what your tumours is going to do exactly. Do not give up hope because anything is possible especially since they don’t know exactly your tumours type… live each day with joy as you do and stay out of the rabbit holes! You’re thought of often! ❤
He did radiation for 18 months? Have you seen any cognitive decline after that? The brain usually will start to severely degrade after radiation therapy.
@@yuleassagai1684 sorry I guess I should edit to say that he did 6weeks of combined radiation and chemo and then the chemo continued for another 17 months. He will not be able to have radiation again in that area but chemo could be an options again. He did have severe fatigue for about a year after radiation. He did however have a small stroke because the radiation did cause some premature aging of his blood vessels and while that was a risk of radiation. I feel his high blood pressure, which was hereditary was a major contribution to the stroke. He recovered quite well from his stroke. We are very lucky.
My sister has stage 3b colon cancer. She’s starting chemo in October. She’s 44 and has 2 kids who are 8 and 2. Have faith…no one’s life is secure, I could die in an accident tomorrow. Just hang on to life and never ever give up hope. God is with you! ❤

I have a friend who had lung cancer, which metastasized to her brain- 8 tumors. It was long enough ago that she was in a clinical trial of Opdivo. It worked for her. She's been cancer free since BUT she does take anti-seizure meds daily. The point is, she was in the trial as a last resort yet she's still here. She's outlived every doctor's estimate of her life expectancy. And the best advocate for your health is YOU. If you feel like you need another opinion, right for it. You know your body better than anyone.
@@watchthisheadspace Of course in clinical trials you may in some instances be in the placebo group as my wife was for parkinson's disease. but after the trials she was welcome to have the experimental drug.

Eireann, thank you for sharing your struggles and humility. Let me share with you that my mother fought cancer for 38 years. Her shear will to live, her mindset, I am sure, is what gave her strength to overcome the odds. In fact, she was not supposed to live much beyond my birth! However, she got to see me, her youngest, graduate as high school valedictorian. She was able to be there when I accepted my Bachelors in Engineering and then my Masters. She was there when I got married and was able to see the home I built. Fast-forward, the initial cancer that kicked off in her body all those years ago is now readily treated and has a high survival rate. Point being, a lot can change in these times! Strength be with you!
I have a friend who had glioblastoma, brain cancer. He was diagnosed over 2 years ago, he was given 6 months to live. He had an op, had some chemo, and then everything after that, he did himself. He researched, and was having introvenous vitamin c weekly, cut out all sugars, and went on keto diet, with fasting daily for 16 hours. You can do it, you have to be positive and focus.
As a younger person diagnosed with an early stage lung cancer as a nonsmoker, I look at every day with gratitude and appreciation. Keep focusing on all that love that surrounds you, Beautiful Eireanne. Your family, your friends, your pets, everything that brings you joy from simple walks outside in natural surroundings to music to movement…keep yourself busy with the fight! The stigma attached to lung cancer is real and, like Eireanne mentioned with brain cancer, are underfunded and underresearched. It takes awareness so I will continue to advocate so others will realize anyone with lungs can get lung cancer. Mine was found at Stage 1, thankfully. I continue to very regular CT surveillance.

I am so sorry you are going through this. I have anaplastic thyroid cancer,and my specialist is amazing. She never speaks negatively and encourages me to slow down on thinking about the end ....so much is changing with cancer treatments,and new drugs all the time. I am on chemo ( gene targeted) and just finished radiotherapy. Keep looking after your mental health,and keep away from all the negative videos...we are ALL going to die, we dont need to think of that til the time comes.research n get your second opinion. I work in hospice and I’ve seen many people with many different diseases decline and eventually pass away. My last brain tumor/brain cancer patient outlived his prognosis date by almost 15 years. He died peacefully in his sleep and was lucid until 2 hours before he passed. He had seizures and those were admittedly difficult for him, but he was surrounded by love and support and that made everything bearable for him. I hope that you have a full and abundant life no matter how much time you have left (which I hope is many many years!) ❤️

15 years of laying in bed while having the occasional grand mal? Who is it that that information's supposed to make feel better? I wish you very well though, not many people are capable of doing a hospice nursing job.
@@istvancsap3513 he was not bed bound for 15 years nor did he have grand mal seizures. He was active and independent, living on his own without assistance for those 15 years. Only on hospice the last month of his life and even then was able to live alone until his final 3 days. He had what are called absence seizures which didn’t involve any shaking in his body, only brief moments of what looked like staring into space. His seizures weren’t daily or even weekly in most cases. Hospice doesn’t always look like what you think it looks like, which was my point exactly! So thank you for your comment which allowed me to reinforce that his death and decline was all around peaceful and something I was hoping to explain to provide comfort instead of fear.
@@istvancsap3513 I think you misunderstood. She did not say the patient was in bed for 15 years, only that they lived for 15 years after the diagnosis. Many brain tumor patients can have a good quality of life until rather shortly before death.
Shame on that doctor. Positive attitude is one of the best remedies, he took that from you! Be strong, get another or many more opinions and like so many have said don’t give up. I follow another TH-camr. A woman with a husband who had a brain tumor (cancerous). Im unsure if it’s the same as yours, but he has lived 20 years with his tumor. He is right now recovering after a doctor decided to remove it after years of him being told he wasn’t able to. The point of this is, seek that second, third, fourth opinion. If you’re able to travel, see if there are other providers that are more experienced. Dont give up, because there is a point to fighting and finding treatment. I can’t imagine what you’re going through. I promise you there is hope.
Sorry to hear about your situation 😢 But 11 years is a long time! As a pharmacist, i can reassure you that even though research for brain cancer has been slow, there have been promising developments recently, such as the use of the polio virus which is now in Phase 2 of clinical trials!! So there is definitely a chance that new and effective treatments may emerge while you're still around. All hope isn't lost and I wish you the best! ❤ Also you should definitely get a second opinion.

The Oncologist gave my wife six months to live and that was three years ago. You just never know. Now we just take it from one birthday to the next with each one a huge accomplishment. You seem like a sweetheart please stay strong.

A big hug from New Zealand from a terminal cancer patient in New Zealand - somehow you and I are on the wrong train and it's a bumpy ride,but take some comfort knowing you're not on that ride alone. Give yourself permission to spend some time grieving about this - but also learn to let go of what you can't hold onto anymore. If you can master that, you'll squeeze the most living you can out of life while you've got it.
I heard multiple times that the cure for cancer was discovered by many scientists but those scientists die “ from natural causes” and the reason why they never let it happen because pharmaceutical companies are making wealth off of cancer drugs , another proof is that only specific people get access to the cure of cancer such as princess Kate , she got healed from cancer REALLY fast .

Please don't lose hope. My mother was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, and then went on to live a beautiful 25 years. This was due to her positive outlook and to advances in treatment.
It's already on the horizon! Research in Scandinavia are into something revolutionary right now. And immune theraphy are used and work on more and more forms of cancer. Hang in there! For the record;had stage 4 20 yrs ago with supposedly a yr left. Well,still here. Completely cancer free. Refused follow ups and meds some years ago. As a experiment. 😅. And for the hospice nurse tales;take it with a grain of salt. Seen myself. Make sure to give enough morph!ne. No struggle. Need guard to make sure the nurses dont take some of it for themselves. There lays my fear. Very common. So make sure there is enough if the worst happens.

Get that second opinion. A friend of mine was diagnosed with bone cancer. The dr gave her 8 months tops. That was 15 years ago. She's still here and doing great. Look for options. Love you and hold you and your family up in prayers! 🙏 ❤
As someone who has been through 6 brain surgeries, brain bleed and live with an incurable brain condition I know how hard is to deal with all the neurological sequels and cognitive issues . I'm so sorry you received this news , you have the right to cry and feel sad , worried, stressed , angry and disappointed . You have the right to feel any feeling .
Get more than a 2nd opinion if you can, get 3, 4, 5 - there are Dr's who know different information from others, some Dr's find or know about loopholes other Dr's don't know about or won't use. Knowledge is power, the more physicians you can see - the more informed you can become on how to move forward and find ways to make things work or move forward for yourself. Xxoo

Reiterating this! Second, third opinions... I know the US is super expensive, but the best neurosurgeons in the world are at places like Mayo, Sloan Kettering, NYU, MD Anderson Cancer Center, etc. Or in UK perhaps King's College in London as well. Some places have virtual second opinion but I do think they require paying out of pocket, though it's worth looking into (UCSF and Johns Hopkins come to mind)

Hey Eireann, I was diagnosed with Anaplastic Astrocytoma, not a great brain cancer to have, at age 19, was told it was especially aggressive and my chances past a year were 21% - I’m 31 now and have been cancer free for 9 years. You don’t know what your genes have got it in them to fight this challenge you’ve been presented with - but you sure as hell need to give them all the energy they need, but remember, cellular energy is derived from your general hormonal chemistry as well as your food and nutrient intake, so whilst many around you will fuss over your physical health, remember that your emotional health needs all the strength it can get too. As I always say, fixing a dent in your car needs pushing from the inside too, as does a dent in your life.
I was diagnosed with brain cancer 9 years ago, diffused astrocytoma, and your video sounds exactly how I felt after meeting with my doctor. I know what you are going through, and I believe you will come out stronger. Don't allow the negative energy to consume your thoughts. Make plans and live your life. Don't allow fear to guide you. The amazing thing about life is that you get to choose how you want to feel and react. ❤
Sorry you are going thru this. I was re-diagnosed with terminal cancer in February 2024 with six months to live. Needless to say, I am still here and feeling good. Going thru this definitely gives you a new perspective in life. Every body has different reactions to treatment, please don't read the worst and think that is your journey. I couldn’t control crying. I’m 63, fighting cancer for the third time. Right now going through chemo e immunotherapy. I’m so sick, that this past Monday was supposed to be my last chemo, couldn’t take it due to I’m so weak, chemo would send me to the hospital. But I hate when I see young people with this horrible desease. I know God has the last word. You are definitely on my prayers, and I will ask God for a miracle and have many years of good health.

I want to start by saying that I hate this for you too! I think EVERYONE watching HATES this for you! So we will turn our hatred for cancer into HOPE for you! I will carry hope for you in my heart and mind every single day. I will hope that your time here on earth is longer than the doctors estimate, but more than this, I will hope that you will still find ways to experience joy. My mom and I promised each other when she was diagnosed with her terminal illness that we would laugh at whatever we possibly could. She suffered with Lewy Body Dementia and it was horrific, but we still tried our best to find at least one thing to laugh at each day, even on the days that we cried (and we cried a lot!). Even with the underfunding for brain cancer, I don’t agree with him that there’s no point because nothing will change in ten years. That’s ridiculous and very unfair of him to say that. It’s important to allow yourself the bad days to feel it all - you’re literally grieving the life you thought you’d have and unless they’ve been through it, people can’t understand. I don’t know if it’s something you’ve considered but when you’re ready I highly recommend finding a counsellor with experience of young people with cancer. It helped me so so much. Honestly an insane thing to say on his part, they are literally working on targeted therapies for brain cancer right now that will be available in the next 5 years or so. Also the FDA just approved a new drug called Vorastinib in August that targets tumors with specific mutations (unfortunately not the BRAF mutation she has, but still there is progress being made)

Oh boy, I have to really stop myself going off. I would never go back to that doctor again. There is so much wrong with what this doctor told you. So many red flags. I cannot overstate how important it is to keep a positive mental outlook which leads to significantly better outcomes. I've seen it in my own husband who was diagnosed with glioblastoma in January. We were told 6 months and we spent most of that time in absolute despair. Well he just passed the 8 month mark and he's doing great. There are so many treatments down the track for brain cancer that are so promising. Even 5 years from now things could be very different. You need a medical team who is looking ahead to very long term management or even a cure for you. You DESERVE that. Do not accept what this doctor has told you. I predict you will feel so much better after your second opinion with the best doctor you can find. Sending much love and good wishes your way!

We discovered my wife's brain cancer, after a seizure, in November of 2004. She was 41. We were told she had around 6 years. She lived a wonderful life for 16 years, had 4 brain surgeries, over 60 MRIs, more radiation and chemo than anyone should have to endure. She never got off seizure meds, and her cognitive ability, speech, etc. was fine throughout the entire illness. She lived fully, loved fully, and only a few months before her downturn we rode jetskis in the ocean in Jamaica. Her death was not dramatic, and she was in zero pain. She passed peacefully on Monday morning, after visiting and eating lunch the prior Sunday. There are no absolutes. Don't give up hope. Medical science changes quickly, and you are young and strong. You can do this.

I teach medical students about bedside manner and I have to agree with @marianarias313 - this is not how you do this. He actually gave you some good news: you have more than a decade ahead of you and they have a plan for you to make it as long as possible. But the way he basically kept taking away these other hopeful opportunities and made you focus on the most miserable scenario is heartbreaking to hear. Like @mbprim said, there are weekly advances in cancer treatment and a decade is a long time for these advances to happen. So please, Éireann, keep up the hope, there are very sound arguments for it.
I'm in the same situation. 49 and diagnosed 2 months ago stage 4 melanoma and recent brain MRI showed cancer. It's so scary and so lonely I get it. I feel everything you are saying and going through. I'll pray for you, please pray for me. Lets fight...miracles can happen.

My husbands friend has a brain tumour. He's still alive after 20 years. I know he's in the minority ,with this type of tumour, But there is hope! i know such a case, too (really! i am not lying!). they said he would die from a brain tumor (brain stem) in a year. after almost 15 years he is still alive. he cant work anymore, but he is fine. i know he loves gardening so i give him a plant as a present whenever a family member visits me. i am not sure but i think he undergoes some novel treatment now.
Don’t wait for your next doctor appointment - get going with a plan that has a chance. Do not be defeated!
As a Nurse, I can honestly say if a doctor discourages you from getting a second or third opinion, that is a huge red flag that that doctor is not the one for you. Any doctor, who knows what they are really talking about, welcomes their patients to get a second opinion. Don't give up. A lot can happen in 10 years with research for any and all cancers. As a pediatric physician, my opinion is that a physician who uses the word 'never' is an automatic indication for a second opinion. Even if your oncologist is correct, "never" is not a medical term. If you ask a doctor for a second opinion and they say "you probably shouldn't," and it's a life changing diagnosis, GO GET ANOTHER OPINION. It's worth the time, embarrassment, and money. When I finished medical training, I buried patients with the same diagnosis that is curable today and it's been less than a decade. Thanks.

Dearest Éireann, I can't tell you how distressing I found it to watch this video and see you so upset and in despair and offered so little hope by the doctors in Ireland. I've read a number of comments already left before posting this and like everyone else, I think you should get a second opinion. Doctors can often be wrong. The ones in our village in North Wales were wrong telling my wife the "good news" that her malignant melanoma (the worst skin cancer you can get) was nothing to worry about and not worth removing. She nearly died as a result and Soph and Thomas nearly lost their mother. Thank God, she is still with us five years later. I wish I could say something positive to you that could change things - we all do. But I just can't right now. I will say this - I admire you more than ever (if that's possible) - even in the depths of your grief and despair you're helping inspire the rest of us to live our lives to the full and not to wait for a reality check slapping us in the face. Thank you for making me - and many others - better people than we would otherwise be. I hope you can put my donation to a worthy cause - and that worthy cause is YOU and Devin. My friend was diagnosed with leukemia at 17 and doctors told him he would never live more than 5 years. He's now 42, has a beautiful kid and is a great father. Meanwhile, another friend died young and healthy while sleeping, his heart just stopped for no reason. Life is like this, and no one knows what the future holds. Guess what. I had a friend suddenly pass from a heart attack at 20. He was healthy, no known issues whatsoever. His heart suddenly failed.
It was 2000.
Sometimes that stuff unfortunately just happens. And when youre working with a huge population like "everyone of a country" theres going to be unexpected heart related deaths of otherwise healthy young people. Because those things just happen. But since covid happened, people want to tie every out of nowhere severe medical event to that vaccine.
I am on the same path and watching your videos have made me cry and laugh. I had 3 crainiotomies, radiotherapy and now only have BRAF inhibitor drugs. My life is counted in months now but I am still fighting. Keep going, never give up xx

that's why people try to make their neighbour's life miserable all the time. Practising fault finding in order to find any excuse to treat others like if they were rubbish with no basic rights. And everything starts in the mind:

it's not about a belief, it's about will (unfair judgment) and behaviour:

11 years of survival is not that bad though....... comparing it with the much more common heart failure (which can come a shitload, really, a SHITLOAD of different reasons at ANY age basically, and in the USofA i think 5% of all people living there have it in some degree) where the average survival is just shy of 4,5 years, and that disease have really-really nasty'n horrible "flareups", when you can't breathe, can't leave bed because your heart muscle is so weak you feel like you're having a heart stoppage (cardiac arrest) constantly, and you obviously can't do anything "fun" because it puts too much strain on your heart. And those flareups keep on going for months on end, and then you get like 2-3 better months, then hell comes back, only every consecutive time ever more viciously....... the one lucky thing is that there are quite potent medications to treat it nowadays, like loop diuretics and amiodarone...... but still, it is a horrible way to go, if you manage to keep lucidity near the end.
I am a survivor of a brain giloma, located inside of my brain stem. I was diagnosed when I was five, I am now 26. The doctors told my mother I was going to either be blind, deaf, or mute, or a combination, I am none of those things. I am terribly sorry you are experiencing this, no one should experience this, but, the bell hasnt rung yet. You can survive this, do not give up hope. I had a less than 00.1% chance of even surviving, and here I am today, typing to you. Just keep fighting no matter what.

Eireann, they diagnosed Stephan Hawkings with Lou Garret's disease when he was 21 and told him he had 2 years to live; he died when he was 76, 50+ years later. He didn't just defy the odds; he destroyed them.
There is an idea that Hawkings was swapped. He probably died in the 1970’s.

I hope they find a cure. I know professors have contacts with each other about this sort of cancers. Erasmus UMC Rotterdam is specialized in braintumors. In Holland research for braincancer is also minimal. Lost my sister to a very agressive form; glioblastoma multiforma
I work within child cancer research and there is so much going on right now within the research field! I don't know if you, for example, have heard of Whole Genome Sequencing? Where I work we have a new centre for real high tech stuff. And I heard that a boy with Pontine glioma recently was cured from it! And it earlier was incurable. Just wanted to share this! ❤️
Please please please please get a second opinion, and maybe a third. Shame on that oncologist for saying those things to you and intentionally telling you there is no hope. They absolutely don't know that - it is all statistics, and odds, and nothing is for sure (as many others have already commented). I recommend reading the book "The Expectation Effect" by David Robson. It is an outstanding book that is completely based in science. There is enormous power in belief - use it.

Sometimes you will worry and its normal, but meditate, do deep breathing exerxises, and eat brain foods.
Keep a low sugar Diet, because cancer needs glucose from sugar to grow and spread.
Cancer can be starved if we eat alot of vegetables and organic grass fed meats, nuts, sardines, salmon, high in omega 3, and free range organic chicken eggs.
Eat fruits high in vitamin C but low on the glycemic index such as watrmelon, blueberries, black berries, apples, kiwi and others.

My Aunt has stage 4 cancer and the doctors told her she would be dead in 6 months, but now it's been 18 years later and she's still alive. Don't take 11 years as a maximum lifespan, take it as a minimum. I will live at least 11 years at the minimum. - As for the cognitive decline, as you age you get mentally slower regardless. I'm 41 now and I do not feel as sharp as I was in my 20s. Your case is more extreme of course, but naturally you would get less sharp mentally anyway, just think of it as a little worse than average. Everyone has to deal with bad things in their lives and this is your random bad life modifier. It is also possible more cures come out for cancer within the next decade that could cure yours. I'm hoping for the best for you!
all cancer sux, but you really cant compare them to brain cancer, you skull is X size no extra space, it kinda has an important job in keeping you alive. it also affects your everything, that includes mood / emotions / feelings physically. its one thing to feel emotions due to chemical imbalances u can balance, but physical things are permanent.

To be honest, only from the way you previously spoke about your cancer, I figured you prognostic was under 2 years. But girl, 11 years is so hopeful!! Medecine advances so much in a decade! My husband was diagnosed with brain cancer following a series of absent seizures and an MRI in 2017. It was extremely hard news to swallow - he was 23 at the time and healthy as could be. They were unable to determine what kind of tumor it was, aside from the fact that it was quite aggressive. He took chemo and radiation, had 2 brain surgeries within a few months of each other, and he was told he’d be on anti-seizure meds for the rest of his life.
7 years later, his MRIs continue to come back clear and he is officially off his anti-seizure meds.
Of course every case is different, but I truly hope that you can find it in yourself to hold onto hope, and the knowledge that things do not always go the way they’re expected to go. I wish I had anything more meaningful to say, but I am rooting for you, and I will be thinking of you and your loved ones ❤ I’m so glad you have a good support system

isn't that much of a time as you think it is , time flys by 😭 but its better then nothing. Some people only get few months. It is still a guess by the doctor , as she might live abit longer then that or less :( ( I hope she lives longer but the reailty is not even the doctor knows for sure, it is an educated guess. It isnt set in stone.

I’m a nurse and while I believe in honesty, NO ONE HUMAN BEING KNOWS WHEN OUR TIME IS UP. Find another doctor for a second opinion. You need to have someone who has a positive outlook and is a positive person. Ten years is a long time for new treatments to develop. Don’t give up. I am rooting for you. ❤

I don’t know if you can but research oncologist and get that 2nd opinion. No one should say that whether they are confident or not. Call them get a referral or call the oncologist anywhere you want and get an appointment. I’m a nurse in the US and work with high risk pregnancies patients or babies. Our patients ask for 2nd opinion we get it that day. We work to make it happen because sometimes other Doctors have different experiences and outcomes. I can honestly say that the world of genetics and cancer research has exploded in the past few years. Never give up hope. New discoveries come out all the time. New research studies as well. You are a beautiful young woman and have an amazing family and partner. Let them love on you and on those foggy days give yourself grace and realize this doesn’t define you. The seizure medication he has no idea if you will need it long term. He has given you statistics and worst case scenario. Sometimes Doctors do that but in any set of medical conditions there are those that defy the odds. Put in the research and find a credible oncologist that specializes in this type of cancer and see them. Easily some of our patients we could say you will die before giving birth. We have cancers, heart conditions that are bad, kidney failure, transplants and some with multiple other things. Some make it and live a good while. One thing about medicine is it isn’t always black and white. Cry if you need to actually it releases endorphins and can help. See a therapist you like and who is supportive of you. Tell them your goals they can help you handle what is going on giving you a safe place to cry, be angry or however you feel without judgement. They should if not get a new one. I certainly will keep you, your family, your friends, and the medical team better in my prayers, or send out good energy to the world.
I have a 7-month-old daughter, and this absolutely moved me to tears. I am so sorry to see what you are going through, and I wish I could take your pain away. But I am so glad/proud to see you have the ability to maintain hope.
I remember when Magic Johnson was diagnosed with HIV back in the 90s. At that time it was a death sentence and Nobody would have believed he would still be around here in 2024 and healthy. In the medical world, eleven years is a long time and there is every reason to have hope.

My aunt lived with brain cancer for 25 years after being told she had less than 6 months to live. Not everyone is so lucky but it does happen. And as others have said, medicine knows so much more now than it did then and the same will be true in the years to come.

When doctors tell patients they only have a few months to live, is it because they physically LOOK like they will die in the near future??.. I ask because my mom was just put on hospice care 😢. She has ovarian cancer and pancreatic cancer. The chemo was initially working, then they switched it to another chemo drug and health has declined a lot. Now they’re telling us there’s nothing else they can do and to just let her die.

In korea. 15 years old girl that doctors gave up everything had the terminal brain cancer. It was impossible for her to use chemical or radiation anything..Her mother decided not to wait die . My brother is going through treatment for a Astrocytoma grade 2/3, that's also a brain tumor, for the second time. The first time was 13 years ago, and back then, they gave him 2 years to live. But he is still here, fighting and LIVING. He has 3 kids and wants to see them grow. The one thing that we all learned with this battle is that no one never knows anything for sure. Don't give up. This was a difficult watch - to see somebody not much older than I be in such a position breaks my heart. I cannot begin to imagine what you go through on the daily but I admire your strength and courage. I wish you a million happy memories and a life full of joy.
I also have a brain tumor and ignored your warnings. What you said in the end about enjoying every moment is so incredibly true. That is what keeps me going is being so grateful for the time I have with my family.

No doctors would listen to me . And i had stroke symptoms for 1 year. And like 30 other symptoms. Self advocation is sooooooooo important. What county do you live in ? Just curious about the health care system . I had 12 hour brain surgery and have 10 percent left so I can still use the left side of my body with no issues. That will be monitored forever.. all I lost was a year of my life and my left side hearing . It was benign and I had never been soooooo greatful to hear that. I pray for you and everyone else that has a cancer diagnoses of the brain. Or anywhere. Any time I feel scared I just remind myself that there are so many people out there that have it much worse. As a medical student specializing in oncology, I can assure you that cancer advancements are happening weekly. I pray that in a few years, there will be a safe and effective treatment for you. I work at a pharmacy and one of my patients told me, he had pancreatic cancer and there isn't much time left.
I don't know how, but this person is still alive and kicking. It was ten years ago he told me about his illness.

My son was misdiagnosed and told he would not live to be 10 years old.
Now he is 13 and he is too sweet and too good, he has epilepsy, he loves animals, he is interested in the meaning of life and helping others. I wish you a lot of strength and don't believe everything they say, miracles happen every day. 🍀🙏🍀

Doctors have a responsibility to tell the truth to their best of their current knowledge. They can ofc sugarcoat it with optimism about the possible progress of science but fast and clearcut progress is not a given. They were very optimistic in the 80s about cancer being totally curable in the 2000s and did not happen. Unfortunately progress in science is absolutely unpredictable and not linear.

EDITED TO ADD: Please look up Stephanie Seban. She got diagnosed with terminal breast cancer in June 2011 and is thriving today even though the chances that she had of making it even 5 years were very low. She has many great philosophies related to this.

As a medical student, I have been told that the idea of doctors "predicting" the number of years a patient has 'left' is practically never something that should be brought up in an appointment; because disregarding the impossibility of giving a 100% guarantee, it also simply serves no positive purpose whatsoever.
My aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer in her 50's and she made a complete recovery and has been cancer free for years, and her morale throughout the entire treatment protocol was shockingly positive. Stress has been shown to be associated with an uncountable number of diseases, and it's foolish and dishonest to claim that it plays no role in the recovery process of any patient with practically any disease.
Also, I just read your comment from a few hours ago on this channel, and I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis and the difficulty you've had to go through with that surgery, and having to abide by less "surgical" and tangible treatment regimens since you can't have a third surgery. The world has changed so much in the last 20 years, as has medicine, and treatment methods have grown to be much more effective and with less side effects than how they used to be. I will not ask or encourage you blindly to "Oh be positive, have hope! Live, laugh, love!" etc etc, if it's against what you're feeling right now and would only feel worse to hear that - it's important to feel your feelings and there's no better feelings to feel, the bad and the good. But what I hope is that you try to trust the process, advocate for your own health, and harbor no feelings of guilt nor resentment towards yourself. And I wish you nothing but the best on your journey towards improvement, recovery, and hopefully being tumor-free once again.
My husband was diagnosed 15 years ago with a brain tumour and the median lifespan was 11 years. After ten years he did the radiation chemo combo for 18 mos and his tumour has been stable since the end of his treatment. We also were just told that he may now qualify for new trials after all these years new research and new trials have starts. Every tumour is different and acts differently in a different body and there is no way that they know what your tumours is going to do exactly. Do not give up hope because anything is possible especially since they don’t know exactly your tumours type… live each day with joy as you do and stay out of the rabbit holes! You’re thought of often! ❤

He did radiation for 18 months? Have you seen any cognitive decline after that? The brain usually will start to severely degrade after radiation therapy.

@@yuleassagai1684 sorry I guess I should edit to say that he did 6weeks of combined radiation and chemo and then the chemo continued for another 17 months. He will not be able to have radiation again in that area but chemo could be an options again. He did have severe fatigue for about a year after radiation. He did however have a small stroke because the radiation did cause some premature aging of his blood vessels and while that was a risk of radiation. I feel his high blood pressure, which was hereditary was a major contribution to the stroke. He recovered quite well from his stroke. We are very lucky.
My sister has stage 3b colon cancer. She’s starting chemo in October. She’s 44 and has 2 kids who are 8 and 2. Have faith…no one’s life is secure, I could die in an accident tomorrow. Just hang on to life and never ever give up hope. God is with you! ❤

I have a friend who had lung cancer, which metastasized to her brain- 8 tumors. It was long enough ago that she was in a clinical trial of Opdivo. It worked for her. She's been cancer free since BUT she does take anti-seizure meds daily. The point is, she was in the trial as a last resort yet she's still here. She's outlived every doctor's estimate of her life expectancy. And the best advocate for your health is YOU. If you feel like you need another opinion, right for it. You know your body better than anyone.
The problem with clinical trials is they're very hard to get into. Often there are none. You have to meet very strict criteria
@@watchthisheadspace Of course in clinical trials you may in some instances be in the placebo group as my wife was for parkinson's disease. but after the trials she was welcome to have the experimental drug.

Eireann, thank you for sharing your struggles and humility. Let me share with you that my mother fought cancer for 38 years. Her shear will to live, her mindset, I am sure, is what gave her strength to overcome the odds. In fact, she was not supposed to live much beyond my birth! However, she got to see me, her youngest, graduate as high school valedictorian. She was able to be there when I accepted my Bachelors in Engineering and then my Masters. She was there when I got married and was able to see the home I built. Fast-forward, the initial cancer that kicked off in her body all those years ago is now readily treated and has a high survival rate. Point being, a lot can change in these times! Strength be with you!
I have a friend who had glioblastoma, brain cancer. He was diagnosed over 2 years ago, he was given 6 months to live. He had an op, had some chemo, and then everything after that, he did himself. He researched, and was having introvenous vitamin c weekly, cut out all sugars, and went on keto diet, with fasting daily for 16 hours.
You can do it, you have to be positive and focus.
As a younger person diagnosed with an early stage lung cancer as a nonsmoker, I look at every day with gratitude and appreciation. Keep focusing on all that love that surrounds you, Beautiful Eireanne. Your family, your friends, your pets, everything that brings you joy from simple walks outside in natural surroundings to music to movement…keep yourself busy with the fight! DO NOT get caught up in “11 years”. How in the world does he know?? You might as well be asking God himself. So many advances are being made in cancer research and treatment all the time. The stigma attached to lung cancer is real and, like Eireanne mentioned with brain cancer, are underfunded and underresearched. It takes awareness so I will continue to advocate so others will realize anyone with lungs can get lung cancer.
Mine was found at Stage 1, thankfully. I continue to very regular CT surveillance.

I am so sorry you are going through this. I have anaplastic thyroid cancer,and my specialist is amazing. She never speaks negatively and encourages me to slow down on thinking about the end ....so much is changing with cancer treatments,and new drugs all the time. I am on chemo ( gene targeted) and just finished radiotherapy. Keep looking after your mental health,and keep away from all the negative videos...we are ALL going to die, we dont need to think of that til the time comes.research n get your second opinion. I work in hospice and I’ve seen many people with many different diseases decline and eventually pass away. My last brain tumor/brain cancer patient outlived his prognosis date by almost 15 years. He died peacefully in his sleep and was lucid until 2 hours before he passed. He had seizures and those were admittedly difficult for him, but he was surrounded by love and support and that made everything bearable for him.
I hope that you have a full and abundant life no matter how much time you have left (which I hope is many many years!) ❤️

@@istvancsap3513 he was not bed bound for 15 years nor did he have grand mal seizures. He was active and independent, living on his own without assistance for those 15 years. Only on hospice the last month of his life and even then was able to live alone until his final 3 days. He had what are called absence seizures which didn’t involve any shaking in his body, only brief moments of what looked like staring into space. His seizures weren’t daily or even weekly in most cases. Hospice doesn’t always look like what you think it looks like, which was my point exactly! So thank you for your comment which allowed me to reinforce that his death and decline was all around peaceful and something I was hoping to explain to provide comfort instead of fear.
@@istvancsap3513 I think you misunderstood. She did not say the patient was in bed for 15 years, only that they lived for 15 years after the diagnosis. Many brain tumor patients can have a good quality of life until rather shortly before death.

Shame on that doctor. Positive attitude is one of the best remedies, he took that from you! Be strong, get another or many more opinions and like so many have said don’t give up. I follow another TH-camr. A woman with a husband who had a brain tumor (cancerous). Im unsure if it’s the same as yours, but he has lived 20 years with his tumor. He is right now recovering after a doctor decided to remove it after years of him being told he wasn’t able to.
The point of this is, seek that second, third, fourth opinion. If you’re able to travel, see if there are other providers that are more experienced. Dont give up, because there is a point to fighting and finding treatment. I can’t imagine what you’re going through. I promise you there is hope.

Sorry to hear about your situation 😢 But 11 years is a long time! As a pharmacist, i can reassure you that even though research for brain cancer has been slow, there have been promising developments recently, such as the use of the polio virus which is now in Phase 2 of clinical trials!! So there is definitely a chance that new and effective treatments may emerge while you're still around. All hope isn't lost and I wish you the best! ❤

A big hug from New Zealand from a terminal cancer patient in New Zealand - somehow you and I are on the wrong train and it's a bumpy ride,but take some comfort knowing you're not on that ride alone. Give yourself permission to spend some time grieving about this - but also learn to let go of what you can't hold onto anymore. If you can master that, you'll squeeze the most living you can out of life while you've got it.

Please don't lose hope. My mother was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, and then went on to live a beautiful 25 years. This was due to her positive outlook and to advances in treatment.

It's already on the horizon! Research in Scandinavia are into something revolutionary right now.
And immune theraphy are used and work on more and more forms of cancer. Hang in there!
For the record;had stage 4 20 yrs ago with supposedly a yr left. Well,still here. Completely cancer free. Refused follow ups and meds some years ago. As a experiment. 😅. And for the hospice nurse tales;take it with a grain of salt.

Get that second opinion. A friend of mine was diagnosed with bone cancer. The dr gave her 8 months tops. That was 15 years ago. She's still here and doing great. Look for options. Love you and hold you and your family up in prayers! 🙏 ❤

As someone who has been through 6 brain surgeries, brain bleed and live with an incurable brain condition I know how hard is to deal with all the neurological sequels and cognitive issues .

Get more than a 2nd opinion if you can, get 3, 4, 5 - there are Dr's who know different information from others, some Dr's find or know about loopholes other Dr's don't know about or won't use. Knowledge is power, the more physicians you can see - the more informed you can become on how to move forward and find ways to make things work or move forward for yourself. Xxoo

Reiterating this! Second, third opinions... I know the US is super expensive, but the best neurosurgeons in the world are at places like Mayo, Sloan Kettering, NYU, MD Anderson Cancer Center, etc. Or in UK perhaps King's College in London as well. Some places have virtual second opinion but I do think they require paying out of pocket, though it's worth looking into (UCSF and Johns Hopkins come to mind)

Hey Eireann, I was diagnosed with Anaplastic Astrocytoma, not a great brain cancer to have, at age 19, was told it was especially aggressive and my chances past a year were 21% - I’m 31 now and have been cancer free for 9 years.
You don’t know what your genes have got it in them to fight this challenge you’ve been presented with - but you sure as hell need to give them all the energy they need, but remember, cellular energy is derived from your general hormonal chemistry as well as your food and nutrient intake, so whilst many around you will fuss over your physical health, remember that your emotional health needs all the strength it can get too.
As I always say, fixing a dent in your car needs pushing from the inside too, as does a dent in your life.

I was diagnosed with brain cancer 9 years ago, diffused astrocytoma, and your video sounds exactly how I felt after meeting with my doctor. I know what you are going through, and I believe you will come out stronger. Don't allow the negative energy to consume your thoughts. Make plans and live your life. Don't allow fear to guide you. The amazing thing about life is that you get to choose how you want to feel and react. ❤

Sorry you are going thru this. I was re-diagnosed with terminal cancer in February 2024 with six months to live. Needless to say, I am still here and feeling good. Going thru this definitely gives you a new perspective in life. Every body has different reactions to treatment, please don't read the worst and think that is your journey. I couldn’t control crying. I’m 63, fighting cancer for the third time. Right now going through chemo e immunotherapy. I’m so sick, that this past Monday was supposed to be my last chemo, couldn’t take it due to I’m so weak, chemo would send me to the hospital. But I hate when I see young people with this horrible desease. I know God has the last word. You are definitely on my prayers, and I will ask God for a miracle and have many years of good health.

I want to start by saying that I hate this for you too! I think EVERYONE watching HATES this for you! So we will turn our hatred for cancer into HOPE for you! I will carry hope for you in my heart and mind every single day. I will hope that your time here on earth is longer than the doctors estimate, but more than this, I will hope that you will still find ways to experience joy. My mom and I promised each other when she was diagnosed with her terminal illness that we would laugh at whatever we possibly could. She suffered with Lewy Body Dementia and it was horrific, but we still tried our best to find at least one thing to laugh at each day, even on the days that we cried (and we cried a lot!). Even with the underfunding for brain cancer, I don’t agree with him that there’s no point because nothing will change in ten years. That’s ridiculous and very unfair of him to say that. I wish there was something I could say to comfort you, but I know there isn’t. I am so glad you have such wonderful support around you. It’s important to allow yourself the bad days to feel it all - you’re literally grieving the life you thought you’d have and unless they’ve been through it, people can’t understand. I don’t know if it’s something you’ve considered but when you’re ready I highly recommend finding a counsellor with experience of young people with cancer. It helped me so so much. Honestly an insane thing to say on his part, they are literally working on targeted therapies for brain cancer right now that will be available in the next 5 years or so. Also the FDA just approved a new drug called Vorastinib in August that targets tumors with specific mutations (unfortunately not the BRAF mutation she has, but still there is progress being made)
@@ruthginger1023 Exactly! It’s been twelve years since my diagnosis (different type of cancer) and the treatments now are very different and more tailored than they were then. Advancements are being made all the time and for any doctor to say what he said is not ok.

Oh boy, I have to really stop myself going off. I would never go back to that doctor again. There is so much wrong with what this doctor told you. So many red flags. I cannot overstate how important it is to keep a positive mental outlook which leads to significantly better outcomes. I've seen it in my own husband who was diagnosed with glioblastoma in January. We were told 6 months and we spent most of that time in absolute despair. Well he just passed the 8 month mark and he's doing great. There are so many treatments down the track for brain cancer that are so promising. Even 5 years from now things could be very different. You need a medical team who is looking ahead to very long term management or even a cure for you. You DESERVE that. Do not accept what this doctor has told you. I predict you will feel so much better after your second opinion with the best doctor you can find. Sending much love and good wishes your way!
