I'm totally with you - I think Gamepass is great. I pay for Ultimate as we have an xbox, I have a PC, and my son has a PC. The xbox is casual games, forza horizon etc, then the PC is things like Battlefield. We don't even play it constantly but dipping in and out, as Andy mentions, you can install anything, play for a bit and leave it and try somethign else. Keeps it more intersting. A different mindset from when we were younger where you feel like you have to play through the game, even if it was rubbish. I'd farrrr rather have this service than a Spotify or Netflix subscription and no-one screams that they are too expensive!
I really do question some of the dudes out here who are boldly just throwing a blanket across and and saying GP isn't worth it, Just this month alone, 6 day1 games have or about to launch into the service for this month. They have like over 30+ day1 launches every year and I'd argue every year for the last several, the value seems to get better and better. Obviously if you're someone who literally only plays and buys 1-2 games a year and that plat time would not increase with or with out GamePass, than sure, you probably wouldn't want to be subscribing to GamePass or any kind of gaming subscription in general lol.
Stray was available on Day 1 with PS+ subscription. But it remains indeed an unusual practice for PlayStation. I consider Microsoft & Sony have opposite strategies. Obviously Microsoft is a way richer company than Sony, but they are still challenger in terms of king of console gaming, so they can afford to lose money on putting plently of Day 1 exclusive to always win more Game Pass subscribers, since it is their main strategy to win ever more subscribers. Whereas Sony, with their high quality AAA games, does make way more money by selling their new games full price instead of having them on PS+ Day 1. They can expect more people to buy the PS5 and the game full price at each new release, and then eventually, after like 2 year of PS5 exclusivity, put the game on PC and on PS+ when the hype is over to have a second momentum of their games. But because Sony is relying much more on the success of their AAA games to remain the top player, they cannot afford to "offer" Day1 game each time. With the ever steeper development cost of games, Sony needs to reach and go beyond break even points as soon as possible, as well as to keep high hype on their licences. On the opposite, Microsoft has basically endless cash with all of their businesses so they can afford to buy plenty of gaming companies and launch as many games as possible on Xbox Game Pass, and even they fail (and there has been many faliures recently - looking at you Redfall), well so be it :) In the long run, Xbox considers they'll crunch Sony. Hell, they could buy both Sony and Nintendo as a whole tomorrow if they will ; money is no issue for them :)
I'd say Gamepass Ultimate is 1000% worth it. As a kid a grew up with the first 3 Halos, Saints row 2-4 and like 2 CoDs. I pretty much only played Saints Row and Halo. Kinda crazy to think that now I have thousands of games for the cost of £15 per month. This month alone I've played Halo CE, Halo 2 remaster, Halo 3, Halo 4, Halo Infinate, Warzone, Forza Horizon 5, Doom, Wolfenstien, Battlefield V, Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2017), Star Wars Squadrons and Pal World. Oh and they're just the games I got *FOR FREE* with my Gamepass subscription. If you have gamepass you get crazy discounts on games. I picked up a digital copy of Red dead 2 for £20 when it was on sale. Oh and BTW the sales are exclusive to gamepass holders. That's not even mentioning the older Original Xbox games that often go on sale to Gamepass subscribers for literal pennies.
@@128kbpodcastoh also, 1 New Zealand Dollar is like 43p so people in NZ are paying £14ish for Gamepass. Also, their minimum wage is $23 an hour. The main reason New Zealand are getting a price hike of 30% is just because the initial price was set by the American team so they just assumed a NZD and a USD were roughly equal.
I am so, so torn. I just got my Steam Deck OLED back in April. I've had fun with it, but what I'm realizing more and more is that the games I love are inconsistent at best. I, unfortunately, play a lot of EA games, and the 3rd party launcher works on SD one minute and it's broken the next. Am I really gonna have to get the freaking ROG Ally X? There IS a new Dragon Age coming soon.... 😅
That was my biggest issue with the steam deck and kinda the way it held in my hands. But yeah, you can't play GamePass natively with the steam deck out of the box. It is also very likely Xbox drops their handheld in the next year or two and it's a 50/50 whether it'll just be an Xbox console or if it'll be a cross between an Xbox something similar to a rog ally. Xbox is honestly the most exciting console brand to me given how much they got going on in their pipeline. Happy gaming no matter what you end up doing! The Rog Ally btw, feels the best to play with imo!
@@Mmachine88 I'm also most excited about the possibility of an Xbox handheld. Too bad it's a ways off! I've got a ton of backlog games on Steam and emulation set up, so the Steam Deck is still good for plenty, but ouch does my wallet hurt at the idea of getting something else already.
@@elizabaum Oh nice! if you got a nice backlog on steam, then that'll keep yah busy for a while! I'm amaze of all the devices that can do pretty awesome emulation now adays, especially on the steam deck, I hear that's quite nice. Happy gaming!
No flack about wanting to experience Starfield and the DLC, I will eventually get it on Steam too so that I can mod Starfield, the whole day 1 release thing on PSN + is rarely done but not nearly as much as Gamepass but the library of games is quite large now
You do realize you can mod starfield with the GamePass variant, right? I do it all the time with my copy on the Xbox PC app. Of course if you just prefer a copy on steam that's totally cool! I actually find myself pretty okay wit the Xbox app as it improves regularly, but I do still use steam 50/50 for PC gaming, but more and more I find myself cool with the Xbox/windows launcher. Achievements on steam just don't hit the same as Xbox or PlayStation achievements/trophies imo.
Thank you for my ROG Ally X money 😉 Game pass is still great value when you look at it but with Microsoft limiting the stacking up that to me suggest that the price will go up again. I think if Microsoft had this no day 1 games option from the start it would be fine, but to do it now seems to state the obvious that Game pass is not profitable or doesn't work in terms of making money for exclusive games they need to sell games and games cost a lot of money to make. I think Sony did the right thing by not letting day 1 games be part of the service
IF you have one account on your Xbox that has Game Pass, the other account/profile on there can use it. Leaving your profile free to play on PC at the same time. This is what Andy does with his wife so they can play at the same time.
@@128kbpodcast So you install a game, and then switch accounts and the game is still playable? I knew this was a thing back when gamepass first came out, but assumed it would have been patched by now!!!
Paying for access to games you don't "own" was NEVER worth it. Switch and GOG allows *ownership* of games via physical media or DRM-free digital. A push for a 'Right to own act' is needed.

Double high five on Cyberpunk! Bought it, did a few hours. Done.
hahaha I'm glad we're not alone!

Legion Go is better choice Bigger display and runs all games top notch

Also what do you mean when you say ‘sharing Xbox game pass account’. Is there a family sharing setting like with steam?

Great vid, hey anyone know why Hell Blade looks like a PS3 game on the Ally X? When Forza 5 looks so good?
I heard you can install gamepass on the steam deck though? 😅
No, you can stream Game Pass games on SD, not natively install them.
