Episodes covering, pace, tech, rules, aero, power, power plant, P2P, race aids, spec and development.. etc etc. 🤔
Is it though? You have the strangest cars driving in GT300. I mean that V8 Prius? That would never be allowed in GT3. What's more interesting is GT500 and DTM. They are very close and even will do combined events. Super GT cars will race at Hockenheim in october and in November at Fuji DTM cars will do an exhibition.
The weird stuff like the V8 Prius fall under JAF GT regulations, though the GT3 cars under GT300 are pretty much the same as other GT3s in other championships (SRO, VLN, IMSA, etc.). Only difference is the BoP being applied

If all cars share the same formula: one-make Dallara chassis and option between two engines which translate to limited development... so does that mean the racing is based purely on team strategy, some little fine tuning and driver skills?
Watching the 2019 season makes me love open wheel racing again... I feel like Formula 1 is 80% who has the better car, 15% who has the budget to spend on continuous development, and 5% on driver and team strategy. I like a 50/50 split on car development and actual skills.

Thanks for the video, and your coverage of SF! I think the video is well done in general, but I would like to point out that the SF car's relatively simple aerodynamics are more to do with the regulations allowing for giant diffusers than for the reason you stated. Because the series allows a larger diffuser, the car is less rear limited than an F1 car in its ability to generate DF. That means there is less emphasis on strictly controlling the airflow towards the rear of the car, and thus less of a requirement for intricate flow conditioners at the front. The result is a similar amount of downforce to the 2016 F1 cars at a much lower cost (which is necessary for a spec series where teams are on real-world budgets). Enjoy the rest of the season!
For your information, super formula is slightly faster than f2 (around 2 or 3 seconds faster) that's why super formula is the second fastest open wheel racing behind f1.

I love how being faster than a feeder series is a bragging point. That's how awesome F2 is. I don't watch every single seater series, but imo F2 is the best on track racing out of F1, F2, Indy, and Super Formula.
Imagine this Naoki Yamamoto's fastest lap around Sugo Now imagine Lewis Hamilton do the same hotlap in same condition, same track, but with their own tune and tyres and so on. Question is: *How much faster would be it compared to SF lap?* My guess: around 3-5 seconds faster
Fuji and Suzuka. Both have good facilities and are close to major cities. Autopolis and Okayama are very difficult to get to and Motegi has terrible sight lines. Sugo is close to a major city and an interesting circuit, but the facilities are on the older side.
I have a slightly off topic question: during the race streaming the video on this channel is significantly dropping frames in comparison with the original Japanese TV stream. I think it's because the video part is re-encoded in your studio and thus losing quality (maybe because of the encoder setup). Would it be possible to just copy the original japanese video stream without re-encoding, adding your audio stream on top and then sending it to TH-cam?
Troy McClure correct analysis! Challenge is that to stitch the audio into the video it needs to be re-encoded - so we lose some quality in that process (because we’re adding audio in the UK), so its a bit like making a photocopy - the quality can only be lost, not quite matched. Maybe in future we’ll find a fix though!
I love watching Super Formula along with Indy =) Their engine sounds are amazing. F1 is okay too, but SF takes the cake for me. Thanks for explaining their differences!

Free to air. Japanese super cars are a great alternative for f1 fans. Its a pity the winter off season is the same as f1. Perhaps they could run some winter races outside of Japan.
Faster in a course like say COTA. But on high speed ovals Indy is faster and creates less of aerodynamic wake for the car behind meaning less dirty air at high speed. Indy relies more on mechanical grip at lower speed tracks
I think Super GT has no limitations on displacement while Super Formula does have a restriction as the chassis is the exact same for everyone. The engine is the only point for free range development in Super Formula where in Super GT a lot has to be considered to develop the car.
Monopauly the basic architecture is the same. 2.0 L turbo, fuel flow limited. From 2019 Toyota changed the engine design for SF, but Honda still used the GT base.
JD Lamping both series have chassis made by Dallara however Indy has less downforce than Super Formula because they optimize a higher average speed for ovals and wider road courses while Super Formula optimizes cornering speeds and runs a lot more downforce.
Formula 1 should join forces and merge its regulations with Super Formula in the future so that we can see combined Formula 1 and Super Formula races, just like DTM did with Super GT.

What can teams change in terms of setup on a SF car then? front and rear wing angles? suspension and brake dampers? obviously tyre pressure..?
galliman123 anything aside from the chassis and aero. Wing angles, gurney flaps, dampers, 3rd elements, geometries, differential settings, gears, etc.
