- Garmin Striker 4 was the best for my $$ when I decided to search Amazon for a portable fish finder for my Jonboat.
My fishing deck and trolling motor are all removable since I do not have a trailer and instead transport boat in back of my '96 Chevy. Since this is the case I needed a fish finder that didn't have to be mounted. I did a lot of research on the ones I thought would be within my price range and do what I NEEDED it to do.This is the unboxing and small assembly of the kit i purchased from Amazon.com the Garmin Striker 4.

This actually helped me put mine together. One thing I noticed and confirmed- everyone else used the front threaded bolt hole while you use the back; seems they both work the same only you can't slide the GPS out easily using the front bolt (as the base is turned backwards). Anyways thanks for the help bro.

Im finding that the back set of bolts prevent the battery from sitting in its spot.. makes more sense to use the front set of threaded holes for the reason.

You forgot to mention , you had to move the the screen display mount from the first 3holes you screwed in . The battery will not seat in its place in that position. I noticed you corrected that later in the vid and did not mention your correction. The display mount goes to the front 3 mounting holes .

I found that the assembly instructions for this unit were an absolute joke . Shows how to attach the handle, and halfway assembled transducer mount , wtf . I’m still left with 1 extra small rubber washer ? . I think it goes on the transducer.
Can’t wait to get out to use this.

@@TrackOneBatavia Seems to fit next to the plastic spool that the bolt goes through to connect the transducer to the suction cup and transducer mount. They don't show the spool at all in the drawing but you can see the black washer on the arm.

The company is awesome and it is a small battery about the size of a Rubik's cube and it runs my down scan. Side view 71sv for 2 days It comes in a really nice carrying pouch charger and is completely waterproof

The bag with the succion cup assembly parts comes with a 1/8” thick black rubber washer for some reason. No clue where this goes. The plastic spacer seems to be 3/16” too short. Looks like that black rubber washer should go there but it’s too thick. Any idea what this rubber washer is for? I called Garmin and they don’t even know.
Lol 🤣 No I really do not know. I don't think I even used that and now I have this hooked up on my Hobie
Lots of questions here on that black washer! Ultimately, it goes on one side of the plastic spool spacer, although it's a bit too wide to just slide in easily. It requires some fussing and delicate mechanics! I sprayed the washer, and one side of the plastic spacer with a bit of silicone (use any light lube), then held it with needle-nose pliers, across the washer hole so I was dealing with only one edge, so it wouldn't bend. I put the spacer in place with the bolt (not protruding on the other side), and holding pliers with washer in one hand, I inserted a flat blade screwdriver between the plastic spacer and the frame and twisted, to create a tiny bit more space. Boom! Slid right in, with a bit of finger adjusting to align the bolt with the washer hole. That's my hack! There may be others, but it would super helpful if Garmin was to address this really minor engineering design issue. As to the instructions, I looked at them for like a half hour, hurt my brain, and eventually just puzzled it out (before I saw this video! Good one, dude). Vastly improve the instructions, Garmin! Otherwise, it's a great piece of fishing kit!!
I should have said it goes on the rotating transducer mount, where you'd figure it ought to go. It does!

Thanks for the video! I have one question: if you were to use this in a kayak (mostly on calm lakes, but sometimes the occasional rain or 20mph winds that cause waves) would you consider the bag to have enough protection for the battery? It’s tempting to use this setup since it’s portable and convenient, but things getting wet is a concern of mine.
The only thing you want to make sure you keep dry are the actual connections. Use a heat wrap seall if you need to.. I have this on my 12 ft Hobie outback.. Don't use it anymore because I got the Garmin UHD SV but there's no problems with it getting wet. They are made too

He had the transducer wire on the wrong side of the mount but the video helped as the instructions it came with are horrible

Does this kit come with the trolling motor mount for the transducer?
A suction cup mount wouldn't serve much purpose for me as I have an inflatable pontoon boat.

Just got one, but charging the battery can be hard since the connectors are not easy to be unplugged, any suggestions?
Completely change to a nocqua battery ..very easy 🙌 If you order it offline it should get to you very quickly or you can go to a local place that sells Yak attack and be able to find them. That's what I ended up doing because I didn't like the way the battery attached either. I am by no means any type of electrician and I actually hate wiring but it was so simple with the kit. I felt like such an adult 🙌
you never put the rubber washer in with the spacer on the transducer mount
I've never needed it , this was one of my first unboxing videos I done I'm still always surprised I have people coming over to watch, but I do always greatly appreciate it, since then I have gotten a lot better and so have the video quality please feel free to go check out some of the other videos and comment on them

How do you fix the transducer on a boat if you do not use your own
I used to use the suction cup that came with it but now it is mounted on my Hobie
I just bought one of these and mine came with a foam block to put the transducer in. I'm not sure what this is for. Also, I want to use it for ice fishing but not sure how to put it in the water. Since the suction cup will be useless.
Just stick a bundle of the cord in or around the foam piece and it will make it float you can even put that one piece inside of it to hold it that's about as much info as I can give you cuz I am in Texas and don't ice fish lol
The block is for the bottom of a kayak. You stick it to the floor of a kayak then set the transducer in it and it will work through the hull .
whenever i press traditional or flasher it just says transducer disconnected when everything is brand new and i know its all plugged in correctly
Hmmm I've never had a problem like that I would call them or message them and have them take care of it I just put out a whole nother video showing me using it to this day I actually used it to catch my first 2021 fish on Saturday
decent video. much better than the instructions you receive from Garmin (who I give a D-). However, learn to use the editing function in your video recorder. Could have shorten the video by 10 minutes and removed all the clumsy drops and missteps
This video is 2 years old now I have learned a lot since then and use Adobe Pro premiere now. I greatly appreciate it though I should actually do another one showing where else to actually mount from where I originally did 🙌🙌 I give your comment an A+ Very nice and constructive critiques
THANK YOU without this video I could not put this darn thing together! There are a couple questions remaining. The purpose of the small black rubber donut. I think it’s a spacer for the wing nut assembly. Also the wing nut adjustment. What is the best angle for the transducer? Like an “L” in the water?
Yes it is supposed to be parallel with the surface of the water

I like to use it just to find my depth sometimes when I am in my jon boat and I'm definitely going to be using it on my kayak
If you use the three back screws to mount it, then you won’t be able to put your battery in the battery well. There aren’t two ways to mount this. There is only one way and that’s using the front three screw holes. If you’re going to do a video it’s important that you know what the hell you’re talking about
You are correct this video is supeeerrr old and I was doing it on the fly .
does the battery come charged in the box?
It does have a little charge but not a lot but charges fairly quickly

How do you remove the handle from the mount?
There is a screw on the backside of each one of the handle entry areas you unscrew them and pull out the handle
ReelKillerFishn thanks for the reply. Mine must be different. You pop on the handle and then screw it on. I’ve removed the screws, but the handle remains stuck on the mount.
