2 seasons with the striker 4 and un-believable how good it is - 2 friends have purchased after being with me fishing. This is a quality fish finder use it a bunch for ice fishing, the flasher is super! Also cant thank you enough for the videos- very clear --easy . Made it simple!
Wow man! THANK YOU! I have never had a fish finder and just purchased the Striker 4CV for paddleboard fishing. It's an extremely overwhelming process to just pick one, let alone learn how to use it. This video was so helpful and well done. You were clear, concise, and offered up best practices. Garmin should pay you for this. Really nice job. Thanks again!
Thanks for this! Just picked up a used Garmin 4 striker Plus CV for fishing. Primary use will be kayak, canoe, and fish houses for crappie. Although this is long and drawn out, you put the info in a good format and all in one place which is appreciated. Id rather watch this a time or two, then to try and read thru an instruction manual anytime.
bro! I'm new to this whole fish finder thing, and i bought a striker 4 last year but didn't use it much because i didnt know how. you've changed my life with this information, and not just this video! your mounting tutorial blew my mind, i had no idea I could mount the transducer IN the hull of my kayak! thats a game changer compare to my arm mount i was using! While i feel silly for buying all the extra equipment, I feel much smarter and confident about using my garmin. Thank you for the knowledge!
Glad it has helped, and thank you as well, without all the great subscribers and comments on my videos, I would have stopped making them long ago. :) Good luck
Thank you Paul, I can finally understand my fish finder. Garmin should have you on staff for product tutorials. The instructions that came with the Striker 4 were very vague and left you with a lot of options but little to no insight for application. Subscribed!
Honestly, I had no idea it was this in depth. It doesn't scare me but I can see what I'll be concentrating on my next couple of fishing trips. That's ok. Recently retired. Lol. He did a great job explaining this although I will be referring back an awful lot. Looking forward to understanding the striker 4
Glad it was helpful, its a ton of info, take it slow and learn as you go. Some features you will find more useful than others based on your style of fishing, while some things I covered you will never use again :)
I got my Striker 4 Plus today, came across your channel while watching some How To videos for my new FF. Amazing content! Hands down the best Garmin videos on TH-cam. I can only imagine how much time and effort you put into each of these detailed videos. Kudos to you, keep up the great work 👍👍👍
I just purchased the Garmin Striker Plus 4cv and I can’t wait to use it on my kayak. My question to you is, if I see fish on my Garmin fish finder where are the fish located in relation to the transducer or kayak? For example are the fish directly below or in front of me in relation to the transducer. This way I have an idea where to cast.
This will help some, th-cam.com/video/ZGIugc1-N3Y/w-d-xo.html However with 2D Sonar, you do not have the ability to accurately determine the fish location relative to the transducer in most cases.
Excellent presentation. Just had a little trouble keeping up trying to look at my unit and listen to a rapid presentation of material. Now I need to get out and try to do some of these things.
Thanks for the video series. I'm familiar with finders but not the GS4 so it was helpful since I just got a boat with one of these installed. Regarding the flasher mode that people use for ice fishing, I would note that the flasher display is merely the A-scope rendered in a circle, which shows it a bit larger and easier to see than the A-scope on the traditional sonar screen. I have a different type of sonar for ice fishing that also has both options. Personally I don't see any value in the flasher mode. Why restrict yourself to just using the A-scope (i.e., flasher display) when you could use the traditional sonar and see both the A-scope and the sonar history. The history is a great tool to have so you can see what's been going on if you've looked away from your sonar screen, and lets face it, you're not facing the screen every second you're fishing.
Good points, and I always recommend using what ever modes and features you enjoy or find useful...there are many features I teach and show, but don't have much use for, while others find those features useful.
I agree with FAB Fishing 100%. Paul is the best there is! I bought my Garmin for a depth finder. Your videos have vastly expanded its use. Thank you Paul. Hope you’re out fighting some big fish..maybe snakeheads?! 🎣🙂 Have a great 4th of July! God bless 🇺🇸
Thanks for a great video series! I use my Striker 5 on a Hobie Pro Angler. Seems several of your videos mentioned optimal settings for jigging. Could you recap what those setting should be? I jig in 80 - 150 FOW for lake trout and cisco. Thanks!
Here is a crash course or at least a starting point -Use a wide beam Chirp Selection for frequency -You want scroll speed to Ultra Scroll for Jigging (helps with seeing your jig)...think ice fishing same concept. -Set Noise Reject to Low -TVG Off or Low -Start with your gain in manual around 75 and work your way up until the screen starts to get cluttered with noise...then back off a tad. -Remember to see your jig you must keep it in the cone...so if you drift or move your jig may stray outside the cone 100+ ft is a lot of water so alot of line and lots of friction on that line depending on the weight that will keep that jig from wanting to stay directly under your transducer.
Very informative videos ... I have learned a lot from you from these! I have 2 of these and my biggest complaint is there are 2 lines that need to be connected and are very similar as to the size and shape. Seems like Garmin could make a connector adapter for both cords with a single one way plug in to the unit!
Are the settings you recommend for the striker 4, the same for the striker 4cv vivid. Also on the 4cv would you recommend chrp 455 kHz, or chrp 800khz. Thank you in advance
Fantastic job Paul. I had no idea actually how many functions my Striker 4 Plus had. Awesome little unit and awesome tutorials from 1 C, 1 F! Required viewing! Garmin, throw this man a bone if you haven't already! We are watching and waiting!🧐🙂
Great videos! My Striker Plus 4 will not read digital depth under 10 feet. It shows nothing or flashes a number like 8.8. Since most of my travels are under 10 feet this is a problem. Any ideas?
Has it always done this or just started? What is the transducer mounted on boat or kayak? How is it mounted? My first though is it could be a transducer mounting issue.
@@1Cast1Fish Thanks for getting right back to me. Impressive! Anyway, no, it has only been doing this since Hurricane Ian when the boat got bounced around quite a bit.. It's mounted on the starboard pontoon and worked fine until the last few months. Twice I've adjusted the angle of the transducer, but maybe I should try again.
@@Bville01 could definitely be mounting issue if it was jarred at all, I would check that first. Also check the cable and pins for any issues. Also check transducer surface for any scrapes or big scratches. Also if you don’t have a lot of stuff saved on the unit, try a factory reset. I could have also been damaged and needs replaced.
@@1Cast1Fish Thanks again. I readjusted the transducer angle for the third time but unfortunately that didn't help. Same problem - it shows the digital depth over ten feet fine, but won't show anything less than ten feet. Could it be some setting? I've reset the settings to factory a few times.
I was thinking maybe a setting, check your depth settings to be auto and also check your zoom settings and ensure nothing is on. However a factory reset should have taken care of any setting issues. Might be worth a call to Garmin...they are very helpful IMO, especially if it is still under any warranty. Another thing to try is to go to the simulator mode and see what the screen looks like and if your issue is still there.
Great video, thank you so much. One question if I may please: In several screen shots the depth display number is shown very large in the top left corner of the traditional display as opposed to the standard small number. How do I switch from small number to large number for depth? Thank you
Great video buddy ! Will definitely help me fine tune the features I care about and not worry with the ones I don't. I'm going to sit with my unit on my desk, watch the video ... hit pause and take action on my settings when it's appropriate ... and advance when it's not. Awsome.
I have the older Striker 4 Plotter that I use between 2 different boats but am looking at upgrading to a Striker Vivid 5cv for one of the boats. Can you tell me if the wiring harnesses are the same or would I have to rewire the boat. Thanks for these videos. I knew nothing about fish finders until I found your channel.
Me and dad fixing up the boat, got a garmin striker 4. All rigged up, just hoping this video will contain the details on how to successfully use the device as intended. (Finding fish, sea level, having routes marked, speedometer) but mainly having routes marked out. Gonna watch the whole video bc it seems like it’ll explain all functions and how to effectively use those functions. Because at the moment, I look like my dad trying to use a computer 😂😂 but if I have any questions I’ll reply to this comment, I see you reply to most of not all, so if I have any questions I’ll drop them here. Anyways haven’t watched yet but hope this gives me good information. Thanks for this
I been watching your video. I have a kayak &have a garmin vivid 5,I was fishing and getting alot of disturbing on fish finder. Water was running pas kayak. Does it need to be deeper. I have over the side transducer mount
I will be using this sonar in the Boundary waters in my canoe. I will set my north to grid north. In that case does the GPS then add or subtract the necessary degrees so that it will match the map. I have maps with the declination corrections on them so if I need to I can add or subtract the necessary declination. Also what is the position format does it have is the map datum NAT 27?
I have a question before I buy one, now it says you can mark spots for the future, so thst being said, if I mark structure out in the ocean on my kayak and then a week later go back out, those same marks will be there? What if I fished and marked a different body of water in between those trips? Does it automatically pick up on what body of water your fishing
It's great to have all the classes put into one video. Thanks! I have a quick question about scroll speed. Here's the context: I normally put my speed on "medium" even when I'm keeping the kayak stationary. My preferred fishing styles are using slip bobbers and drop shots, though I'm trying to grow in other fishing techniques as well. My question is, "Would you recommend auto scroll or a low scroll speed, even when your vessel isn't moving? How can you identify fish or what's under you if you're mostly stationary? Do you have any tips about how to pinpoint a brush pile or when the fish are stacked up on each other? Thank you for all you do!
So, if you are fishing stationary and are using a vertical presentation...think ice fishing or jigging you want ultra scroll. As far as the fishfinder showing you anything while stationary...remember you are still...the fish are still moving, so as they swim into the sonar cone they will still show...again think ice fishing. As far as brush, If I see something of interest, I will mark a waypoint, then use the Clear Vu to really get a good image of what it is...if I like it I keep and name the waypoint...if not I delete it. Hope this helps some :)
I'm about to lose it lol. Bought the striker 4 vivd cv. Wouldn't connect to the transducer right out the box. My replacement just came after a week doing the same exact thing. They sent me a new transducer already and that one won't connect either. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. There just a plug and play
I watched video and know more about dept finders in general than I did but I’m really impressed with the striker 4 probably gonna grab one thanks for the Knowledge
Hi, sorry to bother you and thanks for all the info, I have watched it over and over, slow learner, I also searched elsewhere for info on the compass tape, I don't understand, my boat is facing east but it says north, I found something about map orientation setup, maybe you could help, thanks, Clive
You really covered this well 👍 Still over my head , but that's only because I got a messed up head 🙃 I'm going to give it a try tomorrow , I believe I will do last fish icon indicator & see how that works... Thank you
I love your videos. They have helped me out a lot but I am confused on something I really need to know. Can you PLEASE tell me how I can set my Garmin fish finder to help me get back to the boat launch I started at? I am new to my area and when I went out the other day I almost got disoriented because all the surroundings looked the same. Thank you in advance.
Best thing would be to build a track when you head out from the ramp, then follow it back. A waypoint at the ramp is also helpful. Would also depend on what type of water this is...open lake, rivers, canals...ect that would also help determine the best way to mark to get back
No you can not, here is why...the transducer must not have any air gap between it and the water, and in your case the transducers would have to shoot through the top plastic, then open hull, then the bottom plastic. This is why it would not function.
Paul, thanks for all helpful videos! It’s driving me crazy, how do I change my Striker4 Traditional screen back to ONE full screen instead of two side-by-side screens? Sometimes I’d like to view that way.
I am not a pro in this department, unfortunately there are some features I do not use or know much about... sorry, I would definitely call Garmin Customer Support.
Paul, just purchased a Garmin Striker Vivid 4c. When I turned on the power and viewed the Home page it does not have "Waypoint" selection listed. Is there a video how to add the Waypoint selection to the Home page? Thanks
Apparently I’m a slow learner… Why do I get a yellow screen versus showing me maps ? I tried to connect with my ActiveCaptain app from my phone (like on my 7612GPSMAP) but I don’t think this unit comes with a sinc option… Great video and detailed explanation about everything else sir!!! Any help wold be greatly appreciated!!
Not sure on the Yellow Screen...never seen that myself. The Striker 4 does not have the ability to sync to Active Captain. The Unit must have WiFi, I think you need at least a Striker Vivid 7 or above.
I have a Pelican Bass Raider boat with a 35 lb thrust trolling motor and a Lithium Battery. Do you know of anything I can buy that checks the battery voltage or something I can charge the battery with on the water?
They make solar panels for charging on the water, but honestly they suck and are a waste for the space they take up. As far as voltage, go to Amazon and look up battery voltage monitor...tons of choices to chose from that will fit your setup.
So the Garmin4 fish symbols come in 3 sizes. S M & L. Curious to what size fish is S M L. Is small 12” and under Medium 12”-20” and Large 20” and over etc?
Honestly I don't know and it's not published anywhere I know of. I would thing S=6-12 M=12-16 L=16+ but that's just a guess. Most Crappie show as medium, and they are normally 6-12"
Paul, I have a striker 7sv on the front of my boat, and a striker 9sv on my console. Will these instructions be used the same for them as the striker 4? I also would like to make if the adjustments can be made while the boat is on the trailer at home without losing them. If I turn on the simulator, will it show the settings I make while it is running so I can get an idea of the changes. Also, if I make changes in simulator mode, will the changes remain after I turn the simulator off?
Ok im struggling reading this. Im not sure where to cast when I see a fish icon. Does it mean that fish is somewhere in a circle around my kayak or is it picking it up in front of me?
Hello Sir! So I recently bought the garmin striker 4 plus cv with the cv20-tm transducer. My question is, if I go to the transducer list, the cv20-tm isn't on there. It does have the CV20 though. If I click on it, it throws up a possible error message. Any ideas of what transducer I should select, or just leave it to the factory setting? Thanks in advance.
So the selection normally does not specify tm that I remember, so just select the CV20. The error message is just a warning to ensure that you do in fact have a CV20, as errors can occur if you select it but do not have the actual CV20. It basically is saying are you sure you have a CV20 connected and want to use it.
I have a 35 lb thrust Minn Kota trolling motor. Do you know if I can buy a foot pedal to connect to that. It would be much easier on my neck due to having total neck fusion. Sorry for these type of questions on this video but I just recently discovered youre channel and subscribed. You explain things very well buddy. Can you do videos on how to clean perch, other panfish, and catfish?
Probably not on the trolling motor. Trolling motors with foot pedals are either cable or electronic driven...so your model is not going to be cable since there is no pedal right now...and odds are very likely it is not electronic at only 35lb, so I would say a pedal will not be an option on yours. I can probably do some cleaning videos, as I want to get some White Perch to put in the freezer later this summer.
Hey Paul I have rotated my transducer 90 degrees, I do get fish that are off to the side of my boat. I wondered what you thought, can I really use it this way and find suspended fish?
Not to my knowledge, it would not take much distance for the cone to "break" the water surface, and become useless. I should do a video on this sometime
I went with the Garmin Striker 5 Vivid to replace an old Lowrance on one of my kayaks. Screen size mostly. Any chance for tutorials on these?? You are the best at it.
I'm about to shelve this fishfinder. For my purposes it was a waste of money. I fish in water that is a max of 7m deep, there are only 3 places in the river, the rest of the depths are between 0.5m to 4m, and at a 24° angle downward gave me +/-5m under the boat. Means nothing to me. By the time I see the fish in a hole and come back it's moved on. Maybe for dams that are 30m deep this would be great. So I have opted for sidescan fishfinders. Far better for my application.
I have this fish finder but for some reason once i start moving the depth just blinks. Is there a setting i missed? Ot only works if i move really slow
Is it a large boat with a deep hull? Another thing is that it may be mounted to high and is loosing contact with the water as you get on plane. My recommendation to rule this all out is to take a buddy with you and have them watch the transducer while you speed up and at speed to see what the water looks like around the transducer. Could be as simple as mounting the transducer in a new spot...but you don't want to move it and drill more holes unless you have to
Its a 18 foot sea ray. Thats prob what it is. Its mounted on stardoard side, sits abt 12" low but i have to try cruising, while on plane Thanks i will try that.
Definitely the most in depth and well put together tutorials out there! Can you recommend the best settings for jigging lake trout? This time of year they head down to 60-100 feet plus here in northern Ontario. I’m having trouble seeing fish and my baits once they get past 75 feet deep. My scroll speed is set to ultra on my garmin striker 4 plus and my gain is high (above 80%). Have a GT8HW-TM transducer. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks again
I do not do much jigging past about 35ft or so, but I would look at boosting the gain, and ajusting the noise reject settings. Keep pushing gain up until it starts to show clutter.
I tend to use slow mostly from the kayak or when stationary....not always but thats my normal starting speed. When sitting still ultra scroll actually works well sometimes....and even is the Garmin recommended setting for ice fishing.
Great video Paul. I am going to purchase my first fish finder shortly. I think the Striker 4 CV is going to be the one but i would like a suggestion because I do not want to buy one and not get what i need or over pay for extras that I will never use. These are the options I would like in order of importance. DI, SI, waypoints and mapping. Can you suggest a FF for a novice?
So I see SI is important, which is going to change things up a bit for you. The Striker 4's do not do SI, you have to move up to a 7" Vivid to get SI and thats about 500-525. Now at that point I would spend a bit extra....about 800, but deals are out there on the ECHOMAP's with SI. I say this because the Strikers come with a pretty basic GPS Map system, but the ECHOMAPS come preloaded with lake charts and contours. So alot depends on the type of fishing you do, and your budget. SI is very nice, but not cheap.
Thats a bit odd, traditional sonar is a standard menu view. You may have to add it back if it was deleted. Should be in the customize home menu. If not possible factory reset.
@@1Cast1Fish I have hard-wired the power lead to my Striker 4 Plus on my boat and would ideally like to buy another power lead to use at home, if such a thing is available.
I fish on a small manmade lake that has a lot of stumps right below the water line and was thinking if I mounted the transducer at a 45 deg angle and I had a 45 deg cone the readout on the screen would see stumps I'm about to crash my rear-mounted trolling motor into. Of course the depth would be off by 1.4X but I could do that math in my head if I was worried about it. Have you ever heard of doing this?
If I purchase a separate power cable for the Striker 4, can I use these tutorials and practice inside my home without a transducer cable being plugged into the unit? Thanks for these tutorials!
@@1Cast1Fish any idea why I can't get a reliable reading in shallow waters less than 3 feet? The depth reading flashes. The gt20 transducer is mounted in my 2022 yamaha fx waverunner's hull with duct seal putty. Seams to read great in deeper water even when riding 30+ mph
in shallow water the cone is only maybe a foot radius...so honestly no transducer is going to work well in shallow waters less than a few feet. They will give you a reliable depth reading, but the sonar info normally just looks like clutter, even on the 1000 plus dollar units on my boat. Now if you have a unit with side imaging, that works very well in shallow water since its scanning to the sides.
Hi. I love the numbers screen now that I know how to add it. I wanted to have my GPS heading shown as N S E W instead of 360degrees. Is it possible to do that?
Sir i commend you for doing a very comprehensive class on the garmin unit. I have one section i need some assistant with. I use tbe Cmap app for my charts but when i want to input the co-ordinates into my garmin4 cv unit. I realize both use different scales in the coordinates scale. Can you explain to us the newbies as to how to address that or is there a way to convert our coordinates from different units to match the garmins gps scale?
Watch this video at about the 13-14 min mark th-cam.com/video/OeYto1XDcl0/w-d-xo.html This explains how to change the GPS units on the unit. I also believe that their are online convertors where you can plug coordinates in and change them to other formats. Hope this helps
So that is a tough scenario, the grass will like choke out the sonar returns and will just look like your in super shallow water or water with a ton of noise. I am assuming thick grass mats (which i am used to in my area)
I have a question for you. In your video and in simulation mode when you use the split view 200 / 77 with the little side bar on (a scope?) The number on the bottom is the same. Doesn't the number on the bottom represent the area being scanned? Shouldn't it be a lot bigger for the 77 than the 200? Thanks.
That side bar is indeed the A-Scope, and I believe that it is because the fish finder is in simulation mode, and honestly I can not remember the last time I used the Split View due to screen size, but once it gets warm out again and I get back on the kayak I will have to look again...but I believe it is due to the Sim Mode
I go to simulater mode and get a message..."Some features in simulator mode depen on externally connected devices"... I don't get the simulator>>> what's up with that?...
@@1Cast1Fish I appreciate it, thanks. I was messing around with it last night with your extremely helpful videos and all is good now….Thanks so much for all the work you put into the lessons!!
Yes it will...but 1. If you select Go to Waypoint, it will take you a direct route (Straight Line) to the point, it will not care what's in your path. 2. If you need to go a specific route, it is best to save the track to the marina, or create a custom route. These options will include turns. 3.You can just mark the waypoint and follow the "past tracks" on the screen back
I'm not saying there isn't good information in here......... However I find it hysterical that you have an hour and a half, 11 part tutorial video......... That you call basic.😂😂😂😂
If you are looking to determine hard or soft bottoms, look up pictures of hard and soft bottom images and compare to what you see on your sonar. Another very useful trick is to use the Edge feature in the sonar menu, it will show you what the fish finder believes the bottom composition is...either harder or softer. Edge Feature: th-cam.com/video/hJxA0e7nL8o/w-d-xo.html
The transducer must be below the waterline...noise can come from various sources...could be mounting issues as well. You can go in settings and reduce the surface noise in the noise settings.

-You want scroll speed to Ultra Scroll for Jigging (helps with seeing your jig)...think ice fishing same concept.
-Set Noise Reject to Low
-TVG Off or Low
-Start with your gain in manual around 75 and work your way up until the screen starts to get cluttered with noise...then back off a tad.
-Remember to see your jig you must keep it in the cone...so if you drift or move your jig may stray outside the cone 100+ ft is a lot of water so alot of line and lots of friction on that line depending on the weight that will keep that jig from wanting to stay directly under your transducer.
This is by far, the best tutorial on anything I've ever seen on the internet, where to go!
Thank you very much :)
Awesome guide. Have a Striker 4 but looking to get the Striker with contour mapping.
Well worth it if you fish ponds, lakes, or rivers....not so much for small creeks and such
Which model has the contour mapping? I am interested in getting this as well.
@@kdsberman the striker plus and CV
Very informative videos ... I have learned a lot from you from these! I have 2 of these and my biggest complaint is there are 2 lines that need to be connected and are very similar as to the size and shape. Seems like Garmin could make a connector adapter for both cords with a single one way plug in to the unit!
They are similar, but the shape and groove are different for each. A single cord would be nice
Thanks!
WOW...THANKS a TON...Super Appreciative
Are the settings you recommend for the striker 4, the same for the striker 4cv vivid. Also on the 4cv would you recommend chrp 455 kHz, or chrp 800khz. Thank you in advance
The 455 covers a wider area, and the 800 will provide crisper details. I use 455 mostly unless I want to really see whats happening in detail
Fantastic job Paul. I had no idea actually how many functions my Striker 4 Plus had. Awesome little unit and awesome tutorials from 1 C, 1 F! Required viewing! Garmin, throw this man a bone if you haven't already! We are watching and waiting!🧐🙂
I'm waiting too...lol
Glad you enjoyed and found these useful :)
You should be hired by Garmin for sure 👍🏽 thank you for the information .
Wow, thanks
videolarınızı zevkle izliyorum. muhteşem bilgiler veriorsunuz.. çok teşekkür ederim. türkiyeden selamlar..
Çok teşekkür ederim, videoları beğendiğinize sevindim.
Thank you
Honestly I think mine has always been large, What model are you using?
Great video buddy ! Will definitely help me fine tune the features I care about and not worry with the ones I don't. I'm going to sit with my unit on my desk, watch the video ... hit pause and take action on my settings when it's appropriate ... and advance when it's not. Awsome.
Best way to learn...glad this will help you learn more about the features
I have the older Striker 4 Plotter that I use between 2 different boats but am looking at upgrading to a Striker Vivid 5cv for one of the boats. Can you tell me if the wiring harnesses are the same or would I have to rewire the boat. Thanks for these videos. I knew nothing about fish finders until I found your channel.
The standard Striker 4 & the Vivid CV's have different transducers, but I believe the power cable will be the same
@@1Cast1Fish Thanks for the info!
Thanks for this
Hopefully it helps you out, also best to put any questions in a new comment so it ensures I get notified.
I been watching your video. I have a kayak &have a garmin vivid 5,I was fishing and getting alot of disturbing on fish finder. Water was running pas kayak. Does it need to be deeper. I have over the side transducer mount
I would test it deeper or out of the water flows as much, turbulent water has air in it and that will give alot of interference
Honestly I would hate to steer you wrong, but this question may be a bit over my map skill....sorry
@@1Cast1Fish no worries.
Fantastic tutorials! Garmin needs to put you on the payroll.
Maybe one day! Thank you
I have a question before I buy one, now it says you can mark spots for the future, so thst being said, if I mark structure out in the ocean on my kayak and then a week later go back out, those same marks will be there? What if I fished and marked a different body of water in between those trips? Does it automatically pick up on what body of water your fishing
It uses the saved waypoints GPS coordinates, so it will always be there if you save it
It's great to have all the classes put into one video.
@@1Cast1Fish Thanks! I'll try these suggestions out next time I'm on the water. Much appreciated.
Thats crazy, not sure what could be the issue, sorry...hope they send you a new unit or get it figured out...that would be annoying.
Hi! Thanks for the ultimate guide :) I would like to know if you recommand to change for the gt8hw-tm tranducer to find fish ?
Honestly not needed in most situations.
I watched video and know more about dept finders in general than I did but I’m really impressed with the striker 4 probably gonna grab one thanks for the Knowledge
Great unit for the price IMO
Hi, sorry to bother you and thanks for all the info, I have watched it over and over, slow learner, I also searched elsewhere for info on the compass tape, I don't understand, my boat is facing east but it says north, I found something about map orientation setup, maybe you could help, thanks, Clive
I think you are correct with needing to adjust the orientation.
You really covered this well 👍 Still over my head , but that's only because I got a messed up head 🙃 I'm going to give it a try tomorrow , I believe I will do last fish icon indicator & see how that works... Thank you
You can do it! It takes time, patience, and a willingness to learn. Keep at it
This is so in-depth it’s awesome. Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching and commenting
Would also depend on what type of water this is...open lake, rivers, canals...ect that would also help determine the best way to mark to get back
If my kayak does not have front or back hatches could i duct seal my transducer inbetween my legs on the bottom of my kayak?
No you can not, here is why...the transducer must not have any air gap between it and the water, and in your case the transducers would have to shoot through the top plastic, then open hull, then the bottom plastic. This is why it would not function.
Paul, thanks for all helpful videos! It’s driving me crazy, how do I change my Striker4 Traditional screen back to ONE full screen instead of two side-by-side screens? Sometimes I’d like to view that way.
Should just show 1 screen when selecting traditional view from the home screen
Great explanation man. Thanks
Glad you found it useful, thank you
Awesome one stop shop for Garmin. Great video !!!👍
Thanks 👍
How do I connect my icom vhf radio to the STRIKER™ Vivid 4cv to get DSC location information to the radio?
I am not a pro in this department, unfortunately there are some features I do not use or know much about... sorry, I would definitely call Garmin Customer Support.
Paul, just purchased a Garmin Striker Vivid 4c. When I turned on the power and viewed the Home page it does not have "Waypoint" selection listed. Is there a video how to add the Waypoint selection to the Home page? Thanks
I assume you mean the Waypoint Maps...if so, you can just go to customize home screen and add it back
Apparently I’m a slow learner…
Why do I get a yellow screen versus showing me maps ?
I tried to connect with my ActiveCaptain app from my phone (like on my 7612GPSMAP) but I don’t think this unit comes with a sinc option…
Great video and detailed explanation about everything else sir!!!
Any help wold be greatly appreciated!!
Not sure on the Yellow Screen...never seen that myself. The Striker 4 does not have the ability to sync to Active Captain. The Unit must have WiFi, I think you need at least a Striker Vivid 7 or above.
Thank you for this, just got a used one and you taught me how useful it can be
Awesome, enjoy and good luck
Paul,
I have a striker 7sv on the front of my boat, and a striker 9sv on my console.
Most of the main features and menus will be similar between the units. And yes you can make changes in simulator mode and save them
Ok im struggling reading this. Im not sure where to cast when I see a fish icon. Does it mean that fish is somewhere in a circle around my kayak or is it picking it up in front of me?
The fish will be located anywhere within the sonar cone area. Could be front, back, or sides.
You are a true boss on this finder dude.
Thank you much :)
This really is the ultimate guide.
Great video!! I now can start using my Striker 4 plus properly. Do you have a more in depth video of the QuickDraw map feature for the 4 plus?
I do not currently, I do not use the Quickdraw that much for my type of fishing
I went with the Garmin Striker 5 Vivid to replace an old Lowrance on one of my kayaks. Screen size mostly. Any chance for tutorials on these?? You are the best at it.
Should be pretty much the same across the Striker Series
One of the best tutorial I've seen. Educational and very well done. Congratulations.
Thank you
I'm about to shelve this fishfinder.
In many cases you are 100% correct in very shallow water a side scan capable sonar can be more useful
I have this fish finder but for some reason once i start moving the depth just blinks. Is there a setting i missed? Ot only works if i move really slow
How fast? Could be air bubbles or cavitation around the transducer caused by the hull at higher speeds.
@@1Cast1Fish anything around 10mph or faster. If thats the case is there a fix?
Its a good starting point at least
Awesome thanks for the reply!
What sonar speed do you have it on with a kayak just paddling around and anchoring up often? Do you have it on auto or slow?
Great info and easy to follow ... many thanks.
Glad you enjoyed...thanks
Breaking this into sections would help people find what theyre looking for a lot easier
I agree, I will work on that
Both traditional and split mode displays are the same? Do not have traditional mode? Any ideas?
Thats a bit odd, traditional sonar is a standard menu view. You may have to add it back if it was deleted. Should be in the customize home menu. If not possible factory reset.
How can I power my Striker 4 Plus at home to use Simulation mode? Is there an adaptor connection or lead available from Garmin?
I use a Nocqua Pro Power Kit Battery for mine on the kayak...I can power it from anywhere anytime with this small and portable battery system.
@@1Cast1Fish I have hard-wired the power lead to my Striker 4 Plus on my boat and would ideally like to buy another power lead to use at home, if such a thing is available.
Yes you can buy a additional power cable from Garmin or even on Amazon...I believe about $20
no words can discribe how greatful i am thanks man for your time and effort
Thank You...Glad these have been helpful
I fish on a small manmade lake that has a lot of stumps right below the water line and was thinking if I mounted the transducer at a 45 deg angle and I had a 45 deg cone the readout on the screen would see stumps I'm about to crash my rear-mounted trolling motor into. Of course the depth would be off by 1.4X but I could do that math in my head if I was worried about it. Have you ever heard of doing this?
Never seen it done, but I don't think it will work...but never know...give it a try and report back :)
How’s come know structure or brush pile shows up on my garmin ?
Are you sure that a brush pile or structure is present?
If I purchase a separate power cable for the Striker 4, can I use these tutorials and practice inside my home without a transducer cable being plugged into the unit? Thanks for these tutorials!
Yes you can, just use simulator mode as well to give you a bit more realistic look on the sonar side.
Thanks for putting this together
Very welcome
Thank you for this class. Awesone
Glad you liked it!
Super helpful. Thank you so much
You're very welcome!
Watch this video at about the 13-14 min mark th-cam.com/video/OeYto1XDcl0/w-d-xo.html
This explains how to change the GPS units on the unit. I also believe that their are online convertors where you can plug coordinates in and change them to other formats.
Hope this helps
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Your Welcome :)
Have you any suggestions on a set up for the transducer on a 34 foot sailboat?
Never set one up on a sail boat, so I have no real honest experiance
I can't thank you enough! 👍
Thank you too! I love seeing comments like these
Im fishing a grassy grass comes almost top of the water what options would work best for this type of water
So that is a tough scenario, the grass will like choke out the sonar returns and will just look like your in super shallow water or water with a ton of noise. I am assuming thick grass mats (which i am used to in my area)
new sub my man! awesome, had my finder up step by step.
Awesome, thank you!
Glad you found these videos useful
Absolutely fantastic job. Really well done. You should be getting paid by Garmin!
Maybe one day! Thank You
I have a question for you.
Thats because there are other options and things you can add may be shown in simulator mode, but you won't have that option in normal operations.
@@1Cast1Fish I appreciate it, thanks. I was messing around with it last night with your extremely helpful videos and all is good now….Thanks so much for all the work you put into the lessons!!

When drifting shorelines and bays where it rarely goes beyond 30 ft is 77 khz a better setting.?
Yes I would recommend the wider beam for that application.
Thanks I usually go in a 9 ft Zodiac, going out Saturday first time with the Garmin.

Once you make a way point. Say you come to the marina the next day. When you select that waypoint. Will the gps lead you to it?
Yes it will...but
1. If you select Go to Waypoint, it will take you a direct route (Straight Line) to the point, it will not care what's in your path.
2. If you need to go a specific route, it is best to save the track to the marina, or create a custom route. These options will include turns.
3.You can just mark the waypoint and follow the "past tracks" on the screen back
@@1Cast1Fish thanks man

How can I set on device to see configuration of the bottom of the river? To see a branch,or a stone on the bottom of the river. Thanks
If you are looking to determine hard or soft bottoms, look up pictures of hard and soft bottom images and compare to what you see on your sonar. Another very useful trick is to use the Edge feature in the sonar menu, it will show you what the fish finder believes the bottom composition is...either harder or softer.

How do I fix my Garmin striker from flashing on the depth numbers. It will read for a minute then start flashing. Thanks for your videos.
Does the image also have issues or just the number?
What is it mounted on, and where?
@@1Cast1Fish just the depth numbers blinks and doesn’t change.
It’s mounted on my deck at the front of the boat.
@@budbrown9504 I’m sorry, I meant where is the transducer located?
@@1Cast1Fish it’s at the back of the boat. One inch below the bottom of the boat.
How deep do I mount the transducer? I get lots of surface noise
The transducer must be below the waterline...noise can come from various sources...could be mounting issues as well. You can go in settings and reduce the surface noise in the noise settings.
