    In the last tutorial, we went through an introduction to building a Raspberry Pi Camera Stream and viewing a live stream from any client device.
    We’re taking this one step further and making our own 'DIY Ring Doorbell,' and we’ll name this the ‘Pi Smart Doorbell.' The Smart Doorbell gives you the ability to view your live stream to see who's at your front door and interact with the person via your phone (or any other client device) by unlocking/locking the door.

    Thanks for having me again!
    The Pi Doorbell is a project application based on the Pi Live Stream Tutorial (which includes face detection). You can also use a other Pi models.
    One thing to mention, this is a demo. If you plan to build one, keep in mind security.
    Mount in a safe place, and keep your wires safe.
    Hope this demonstration helps!

      Considering safety, I wouldn’t use the case you’ve shown. Access to those ports by outsiders comprimises the entire network.
      Also, a doorbell typically goes outside a building... Where it rains and sand/dust blows around... I don’t see that Raspbery surviving for a year in that case.
      Lastly, having the powercord exposed means anyone can just pull it out... This makes NO sense...
      For a camera or go pro, great tutorial. As a security doorbell, IMO absolutly useless...

      1.if someone appears in front of the door and wants to tell you something,can you hear him,i mean the voice system is included in this project?
      2.this truc is accessible from everywhere or there is a specific distance we can't go above?

    I would ditch that remote lock feature, or have it send a message/command to another pi inside to power the actuator. otherwise, it would be stupidly easy for someone to rip those wires and attach them to a battery.

    Thanks for the tutorial !
    I was thinking about something like this for my door as it has no holes to look through. The wires are a problem tho. It would be very nice if it could run on a battery and be in some kind of deep sleep state, not consuming too much power until someone rings and it would wake up in a matter of seconds. I don't know if this would be possible, maybe with another Pi model ?

    i will be nice if you hide the power cable from de side , maybe drill a hole trough the wall and the case.

      Thanks, that's a good idea similar to a ring camera. And possibly even put the Pi in a CCTV camera enclosure and mount it for secure installation and protection.

    I will try this soon. Thankyou for the awesome video! It really triggers me that these billion dollar companies are able to get away with monthly subscriptions of stuff you already own. Probably because most naive people say to themselves ahh its just $10 per month meanwhile they forget that they already have 10 other subscriptions each on their own date wich doesn’t make them realize that they spend $100/200 on subscriptions every month. Its like eating 1 chip a day from a big family size bag you don’t realize that you’ve eaten from it until you ate half of it😂

    You don't want your Pi outside your door. Somebody may just smash it or steal it.

    • @Milo19970
      @Milo19970 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could say the same thing about any other doorbell😂 Chances of that happening are small. But if you want to be save you can also build an extra case around it that is mounted to your wall.

    Great idea, allow the pi to open your door and then glue it OUTSIDE with every port accessible, not to mention the servo cables. Now anyone can unplug those and operate the servo to open your door. Also, he can just as easily get into your Wifi, so you're giving up both real world as well as virtual door open.
    I know it's just for fun, but please warn about such things before someone actually does this to their door...

    Its a bad idea to store your wifi password on an SD card outside the house, and the same open system can unlock the door... Bad idea... If u want something like this, pay for a secure solution..

    • @FlorianBraun94
      @FlorianBraun94 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea maybe use luks disk encryption for sure at least.
      Also to directly have the servo wires accessable from the outside. Someone just needs to stick a servo tester on it to break in.
      One should e.g. use an IC that drives the servos and receives commands from the pi over an encrypted medium. E.g. use esp8266 and send the commands over network.

      I think the idea would be to get away from the big box guys. For example the ring doorbell cams are connected to Amazon and now have "amazon sidewalk" active creating a 900mHz private mesh network for amazon that is activated automatically upon update.
