    I don't understand how people went from this to SUVs. This is so much better at hauling and also styling. I own a 05 town and country, and this van is amazing. I can't see myself getting rid of it for a ridiculous SUV.

      @JK-tq4qf I'm just upset that Dodge or Chrysler never gave those vans more engine versions such as a V8 and variants like what the chargers have and have a sporty more aggressive look and a European clean style interior like high end luxury cars I've always pictured that.

    That sure is a neat minivan. The built-in child seats are especially a clever idea. Any car or even truck these days should have that feature. Better than having to worry about the hassle of installing and removing your average car seat time and time again. Edward Herrmann was an excellent choice to be a spokesperson for Dodge. I'm 37 now. Born in 1986 I grew up in the 90's always wanted one of these generation vans and I've had two now. Still have my 1998 Grand Caravan Sport with a whopping 60,610 kilometers on it now in beautiful condition. With how everything has been really since 9-11 life has never been the same and it really took a turn too with the pandemic. Just watching this video reminds myself and likely you other viewers of much simpler times of our lives back then and wish we could return to it. :) Another thing worth noting that is a little odd about these vans is, they added an interlock system for the fuel door but they didn't think to spend the extra 10 dollars per van to add in a gear shift interlock? Chrysler overlooked this for sure. How, who knows. But that's pretty careless on their part to just simply overlook that because it did cause a lot of hardship for some families.

    The styling on these was fresh and why they were so popular.
    We had a 1997 Grand Caravan SE in Deep Amethyst.
    Never liked how the dealer swap we did, resulted in them forgetting to include the factory keyless entry.
    They reimbursed my dad and he ended up installing a dingy aftermarket 2-button Viper alarm.
    I always hated that, because it seemed so cheap by comparison to the OEM alarm system, which every other Grand Caravan or T&C on the road had.
    You could tell whether they had the factory keyless entry or not, by the missing keyhole on the rear sliding doors.
    NS minivans without the keyless entry with key fob, had a sliding door keyhole instead.

      My grandmother had a 1995 plymouth Voyager and it had driver and passenger front airbags. Nearly all vehicles from 1994 and up have two airbags. My mother had a 1992 mercury sable wagon when I was a teen and it had one airbag, for the driver. My first vehicle, which I drove while attending a two year community college from 2013-2015 was a 1992 Pontiac Sunbird convertible, and it didn't have airbags, the seatbelts were attached to the doors. The "buckle " was an emergency release, the belts were to stay buckles and you more or less slide under them and when the door is closed, PRESTO! You were belted in. (This was sort of how it was explained in the owner's manual) Of course me being in my mid 20s partying on the weekends and what have you, I and everyone who rode with me used them just like a 3 point manual seat belt.
      However, cars with this type of automatic seat belt system almost all of them GM models from 1989 - 1993, are considered to be death traps in a collision, because if the door popped open, a fairly common occurrence, the occupant would be pulled out of the car with the seat belt and suffer serious injuries or death.

    • @nwezetx1
      @nwezetx1 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Sparky-ww5re Perfectly stated. Your grandmother's van was among the first, when this generation was updated in August 1993 for 94.
      Main change with the next generation models was a lower mounted dash position and hidden airbag door in the dash, which was pretty rare for the mid-90s.
      Unfortunately typical GM with cheap solutions at all costs.

    • @Sparky-ww5re
      @Sparky-ww5re 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@nwezetx1 thanks for the info. Wasn't sure the exact dates other than going by what I can sort of remember seeing as a child in the 1990s, born in 1989. I also remember the power shoulder belts with a separate manual lap belt. My Aunt Sandra had a maroon 1991 Mercury Topaz and it didn't have airbags, but it had the power shoulder belts for the driver and front passenger. She brought the car new in the spring of 1991 and kept it until I was in 7th grade, 2002, had it for 11 years. When I was really young I thought only rich people could afford cars with these power seat belts, and so one Christmas day was really bummed when I didn't get as many gifts as expected from my Aunt, thinking she was being a cheapskate 😂😂
      Anyway, just going by what I remembered, it seems like around 1991 - '92 is when an airbag for the driver became popular, and a couple years later, two airbags. Fast forward a little more than 20 years and it's not uncommon to see cars with 8 or more airbags for additional protection in side collisions and rollovers.
      We've certainly come a long way in vehicle safety systems in the last 35 years.
