Believe it or not, the 94 Ram was the beginning of automakers starting to market trucks as fully-equipped luxury vehicles. And its where truck buyers started to use them as a flex. Ford and Chevrolet followed suit and now if you go on a dealer lot looking for a truck, you won't find any for less than 25 to 30k - forget about a non crewcab or a longbed.

Thank you for posting this. I remember watching this VHS tape when I was 7 years old! Big nostalgia factor here. I remember wanting a Dodge Ram pickup truck because of that center console. I like when they are listing features and they say “door handles” as one of the features. Thanks again!
Last year when dodge made good trucks the newer ones are junk I still see the old 2nd Gen still on the road today with over 400k on the original engine the magnums engines are bulletproof engines
Ricky Davis i got a 95 1500 with a v6 magnum , 253,00 miles on original engine and trans its been my daily work whore (im a brick layer , haul all kinds of heavy shit) for past few years gets great mileage plenty of power for a v6 its geared out nicely. Gonna drive it into the ground
Ive had about 10 rams I'll tell ya those magnum engines are truly bulletproof, I have my racetrack ram sec gen 5.9 magnum with wild cam a supercharger stock bottom end hold it like a boss
I've owned and maintained Ford, Chev, and Dodge trucks of this era. It is comparing to apples and oranges.... but honestly tho I feel the Ram was overall the most indestructible and looked the best. I've heard a people say, Chev body, Ford frame and running gear and Cummins engine.
My dad still has his single cab '94 ram v8 2500 5 speed. The fucking truck still runs with 300,000 miles 🙏. What a truck. He bought it before I was born, I basically grew up in that truck haha.
@Ike N No, Ford introduced the new F-Series for the '97 model year (Actually came out in like March of '96) and GM counterparts updated theirs for the 1998 model year so they're right.
Chevy was probably the worst when it comes to instrumentation during the time this video was made. But honestly I like chevy's exteriors the best. At least they dont rust as badly as most rams from this era of trucks.
I remember when I was a kid back then. I did not like these Ram trucks. But over the past 15 years. They've really grown on me, I actually like them alot now! However, I still prefer the 1972-1993 D-series Ram Pickup! Those were the best Dodge Trucks ever made.
When these trucks came out I thought they looked like mini semi trucks... Im a GM guy but there's always been a place in my heart for these ram trucks. Especially the dually cummins variation. 👍
@@nmelkhunter1 I'm at a point now in my life where I've outgrown the vehicle I had since high-school / college. A truck fits what I want but I can barely manage the prices of a 1500 or 150 equivalent (assuming I go with the big 3)
I owned a brand new one exactly like the commercial with the 5.2 Magnum . I put 152,000 miles on it the 1st year and then traded it in for the 1995 model. Kept it for the 1999 model until 2004 Hemi and still own it to this day.
I remember this video....wow the nostalgia....my Papa was looking at getting himself a new body style Ram and they gave him this vhs and booklets and ads, brought it all home and sat around at their new house in the living room with him and grandma watching this. RIP old man....this video brought back memories I had forgotten. I used to watch this vhs all the time, still got it somewhere over there.
Ive got two 96 12 valves. 3500 and 2500 5 speeds. Ive had my 2500 for 16 years and has 500,000 (i put 400k of them on it) and the 3500 has 330,000. Wouldnt bat a eye driving either across the country tomorrow!
All other points aside I can verify these trucks (in good condition ie seals not destroyed) are exceptionally quiet on the inside even on the highway with aggressive mud tires. My 2003 f350 is an extended cab and that thing is loud in comparison on the highway truly unbelievable.
Yep my 95 Cummins with muffler delete is quiet inside too surprisingly, the seats are very plush and comfortable but all the rest of interior is junk. Decent interior, bulletproof motor, chinsey frame, attractive body, great truck for me
Thanks for putting pictures up of the VHS case. I almost ordered it on eBay the other day thinking it wasn’t this video. But at least now I’m here watching it again. Lol
Always been a ford and dodge guy, the 2nd gen will always have a special place in my heart. About 10 years ago we had a 99 2500 Laramie with the v10, was horrible on gas but was a great truck, plenty of power to run the snow plow for dad's business. Probably one of the nicest 2nd gens I've seen to date, other than the cracked dash LOL!
I bought a new Ram 1500 quad cab 4x4 in 1998. It's still my daily driver. The MSRP on it was $29,325. That's $46,760 in today's money. You get a lot more truck for the same inflation-adjusted amount today than you did in 1998. And 7.25% APR was a great auto loan interest rate back then!
Agree, I loved the 90's. Maybe that's a lot of nostalgia talking, but I have a ton of great memories. I was born in 83, so maybe it's different as an adult vs. a kid/teenager lol
For those wondering, no this is not the truck in Twister. Twister filmed in late 1995, and the truck in the movie was a 1995 Dodge Ram 1500 Club Cab SLT Laramie 4x4.
true, there's still some 88-98 chevy/gmc's driving around my town, but still see quite a few 2nd gen rams. A lot are cookie-cutter modern cars and suvs, and grocery getter expensive newer trucks.
My 1999 ram 1500 is still currently my first vehicle ( I’m 18 in high school) , this pickup with the 5.9 v8 magnum and extended cab with 273,000 miles is insane that it runs fine when all I’ve had to do is change the spark plugs once along with regular oil changes, 10/10 perfect vehicle aside from gas mileage but that’s to be expected with all full size pickups
It’s sad seeing these rotting away in junk yards now. Still see some on the road but vehicles don’t fare well after 30 years in Illinois. Such a good looking truck back in the day.
Brilliant upload. Thank you for sharing. I remember building a scale model of this truck. Also remember Chuck Norris driving this thing in whatever TV show that I don’t remember title to.
Best looking and most functional ram interior in my opinion....it’s just too bad the dash almost always cracks all to pieces. My ‘94’s dash is about gone. :/
As an owner of a '96 1500 WS I can say if you take care of the recalls and do regular maintenance it will last a long time. There are solution/repairs for all the problems this truck had. Remember it was a radical departure from the old model and new features never installed on a production truck before. Like it or hate it, the rules were changed. Just look at the current Ram and what sets it apart from the others.
TH-cam algorithms brought me here. Something really cool because of how 90s the video is. Although those power and torque figures for those size of engines is shocking 😂
Yeah those are rookie numbers by today's standards lol 175hp out of a 3.9 V6? My 2017 Mazda with a 2.5L NA 4 cylinder puts out 187. Technology has come a long way. Even V6's today are putting out over 300.

No they’re payment plans, haven’t heard of anyone buying a 2020 anything with cash, they’re all payment plans. They’re easy payment plans, much easier than a house, you need some sort of credit to finance a house, they’re letting anyone drive off the lot with a new Ram, a 16 year old kid working at McDonald’s can drive off the lot with a 2020 Ram 2500.
25 Years later RAM is once again Motor Trend Truck of the year! I love everything about the new RAM.... but I simply dont trust FCA RAM's parent company at all. I believe that they have a very proven track record of poor reliability and quality manufacturing standards that unfortunately force me to steer clear of the best looking truck on the road inside and out!
My dream truck is the Twister model, a 1996 Dodge Ram 2500 SLT club cab, long bed, 4x4, 8L V10 in Red. That is the exact specifications of the one in Twister my favorite movie of all time.
It was for the most part. This issue was that they required regular servicing (band adjustment) and fluid changes. They called for ATF+4. But people and even some dealers would put in far cheaper mercon/dextron trans fluid in them. That kills them in a heartbeat. Even if you change the fluid back to ATF+4, the life of the trans was already severely shortened.
Um Actually it was the Twister movie that sold these trucks Not Walker Texas Ranger Because after everyone seen how durable they were everyone wanted one
I feel like there were more options to configure your Dodge Ram how you wanted it. Today, it seems more like one size fits all where you have to spend extra on features you don’t want/need just to get something as simple as a sliding rear window or cloth seats.
They even a couple years ago would offer any specific option you wanted, but today it seems like they have a package for everything and don't offer personalized customization.
Centiliter wish I was old enough back then to have experienced it. I like the new Rams but a lot of the features don’t appeal to me and how I use my truck.
Back then you could order your vehicle with specific individual options, to the point you could easily have a 1 of 1 vehicle with that combo of options. Nowadays everything is in packages. You get 4 other things just to get the one option you want.
They have a cupholder? Lmao. That dash kills me. Missing the cupholder, top of the dash is in about 12 pieces under the cloth and the little coin tray has the side busted out

Thank you for posting this. I remember watching this VHS tape when I was 7 years old! Big nostalgia factor here. I remember wanting a Dodge Ram pickup truck because of that center console. I like when they are listing features and they say “door handles” as one of the features. Thanks again!
That truck still looks great today
Last year when dodge made good trucks the newer ones are junk I still see the old 2nd Gen still on the road today with over 400k on the original engine the magnums engines are bulletproof engines
Ricky Davis i got a 95 1500 with a v6 magnum , 253,00 miles on original engine and trans its been my daily work whore (im a brick layer , haul all kinds of heavy shit) for past few years gets great mileage plenty of power for a v6 its geared out nicely. Gonna drive it into the ground
Yeah I still see them around
Can’t kill these old trucks man I’ve got 376,000km on my 5.2
Ive had about 10 rams I'll tell ya those magnum engines are truly bulletproof, I have my racetrack ram sec gen 5.9 magnum with wild cam a supercharger stock bottom end hold it like a boss
The 360 for sure the 318 not so much
That truck is really beautiful.
Juhan Cruuz 478 yep I’m not a long bed guy but it pretty that why I watch the video
If they ever invent a time machine, I’m going back to 94 buying one of these and bring it back with me.
Video is from the summer of 1993, so 1994 has nothing to do with this video.
These trucks were such in improvement over the 93. I love my first gen dodge but these newer trucks were so much better in every way.
I hear you on that man. My 1993 cummins is falling apart.
Cause that “1st generation” lasted from the late 60s to 1993 with minor changes. You can actually bolt a fender from a 93 to a 73.
As a Chevy man I definitely like this truck.
I grew up on twister and I really wanna get a Ram just because of it. Such a beautiful truck
This thing DEFINITELY looked much newer than the Fords in that aeoronose generation.
I think the big 3 all had good looking trucks in 94, I don’t much care for the looks ford went for in 97 when they reworked the whole design
But the 94 Chevys looked better.
Ford and chevy did not start this process of making their trucks comfortable and made the gauges easy to read until 1997 and 1998
Yup. Dodge paved the way for the more comfortable work truck.
@@dr.samsung_8855 I have to admit, even I'm a ram truck guy that's owned a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gen, but ram has its flaws just like any other company
My 95 chevy is way more comfortable than my 2014
I remember when I was a kid back then. I did not like these Ram trucks. But over the past 15 years. They've really grown on me, I actually like them alot now! However, I still prefer the 1972-1993 D-series Ram Pickup! Those were the best Dodge Trucks ever made.
I still see a ton of these on the road...I won’t mind having all 3

20k is more like 35k now
I owned a brand new one exactly like the commercial with the 5.2 Magnum . I put 152,000 miles on it the 1st year and then traded it in for the 1995 model. Kept it for the 1999 model until 2004 Hemi and still own it to this day.
I miss the 90's
They don’t make truck commercials like this anymore.
They hardly even make truck commercials at all, I honestly don’t remember the last one I saw.

Lol
Bill Paxton sold more of these trucks than this video.
Back when new trucks like this didnt cost an arm a leg a first child and maybe a kidney!
It’s not that trucks got more expensive, it’s that wages for most Americans never kept up with inflation....
And where they still offer a manual transmission
@@cameronstoltie5952 I only buy trucks with a manual transmission so my trucks are between 10 and 1000 years old
They were high back then too. Seems cheap now though because of inflation.
I've been looking for a high quality version of this video for a while!
God the 90s were so much better in every single way. Even the trucks were much more unique and fun.

This video is fantastic. Why would someone downvote it?
The VHS was actually the movie Twister.

"Heavy duty automatic" yeah, okay.

Yeah, it would have been nice to have been around when you could customize a truck to your own needs.
Back then you could order your vehicle with specific individual options, to the point you could easily have a 1 of 1 vehicle with that combo of options. Nowadays everything is in packages. You get 4 other things just to get the one option you want.
