Introducing my 1993 Dodge Grand Caravan LE

  • I purchased this one out of Waconia, Minnesota in late 2021. It was advertised as needing "transmission work". Turns out it needed an alternator, tires, brakes, a little bit of suspension work, and she was ready for the road again after 8 years.
    Enjoy!

    I had a 94 like that with the 3.8 and brown two toned black. It could lite up them tires across the whole intersection lol! Was a great van!

    Those were very good vans specially with the 3.0 V6 or even the 3.3 or 3.8 V6. I had a 91 plymouth AcClaim with a 3.0 V6 and I drove it from 230k to 270 k no issues paid $300 sold it fir $500 back in the day AC still worked great.

    Still driving my 94 ES with the 3.8L. I bought it with 170k and have 327k now. I replaced the shift solenoid back at 230k when it didn't want to shift up, been great ever since and only costed me 90 bucks...

      I also know that many 41te transmissions(and entire vans) met an early demise because of this simple issue... I picked up my 98 for FREE with a "bad transmission". $100 later and she was cruising down the interstate.

      Agreed...my grandparents just closed up their body shop and salvage yard and over the years I've seen several and ended up with many that were junked before their time because people thought they had to pay for a rebuild. It makes me wonder if tranny shops had some dishonest business going on too! Lol

    I love it a lot !!! I like the long versions. Thanks for preserving them. I have 93 and 95 2.5 gasoline , 5 speeds manual. The 1993 has lot of options, tilt colums, cruise control, A/C, original roof rack with sliding bars, electric mirrors, electric windows. The 1995 has none of that, it has manual mirror that you can set only from outside, but I made it mounted with Propane system so it's bu carburation now . And I' d really like to find one of those tape - radio, beacause I like having buttons for equalizer and the joystick ( or buttons ) for balance and fader.

      Hoooo nice :) . Yeah there are a lot of them with 5 speeds in europe. I only found one problème the manual trans , there is no plug to change oil at the bottom, so you have sip it for the filling hole or pierce one in the good place. Or remove the transmission and ut it on its side ^^ .@@MNMoparMinivan

    I wish I still had my 98. It had so many transmission problems though. But I do still have my 88!

    • @MNMoparMinivan
      @MNMoparMinivan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've lucked out so far on transmissions... honestly though they die at 50k or they make it to 200k+... and I tend to buy the latter, so survivor bias at play maybe? I also forgot to note this one had a transmission put in it in 2006 at 70k. so the current trans in this 93' only has 85k miles.

    Sweet! 2nd gen with the CHRYSLER built 3.3 V6...no offense to the Mitsubishi engines, they were okay, but if I were to own one of these vans I would only want one of the Chrysler built V6 engines. Nice van bro I enjoy your videos.

    My boyfriend saw this van at shorty's recycling in Montrose (he's the one that has the New Yorker fifth avenue) wondering if you knew where to get parts for our "new" 94 Plymouth grand Voyager?

      Thats amazing! I remember! That was a sweet New Yorker. Try U Pull R Parts Rosemount and East Bethel. You can check inventory on their site. There should be a few on the lot right now. I actually have videos up of some. (:

    Try replacing the TCM before you replace the transmission. Many of the transmission problems were TCM not the transmission. If the former owner drove it for an extended time with the Trans problem it will burn the plenum, so I hope that isn't your situation.

    • @MNMoparMinivan
      @MNMoparMinivan  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks! This particular issue is more likely a physical issue, whether a seal is blown or a clutch is burned. Wouldn't know till I had it apart. I've got 2 caravans without reverse, this 93 and my 05. 05 hasn't had reverse for 105k miles. Plan is to run this one till it goes. The shop that put this trans in at 70k miles in 2006 broke off most of the mount threads where the trans mount bolts in. I have it cobbled back together but it isn't ideal so it needs a new case anyway.

    I have a 1993. where do you plug computer in to diagnose. I went to autozone and we couldnt find it

    • @MNMoparMinivan
      @MNMoparMinivan  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      These are OBD I systems. There IS a plug in the engine bay on driver side, but its not the same plug you see on vehicles today. You should be able to check codes using the dash. *Pulls out Chilton manual* It looks like you will want to flip the ignition On-Off-On-Off-On within 5 seconds. Then the engine light should start flashing 2-digit codes. IE flash-flash-flash (no flash) flash-flash would be fault code 32. The process should be something like that anyway. If you have a drb-2 capable scanner you can still plug in under the engine bay.

    • @suzannemargolis4156
      @suzannemargolis4156 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Mine is under the dash to right of the steering column. But good luck finding a meter old enough to use.

    So a couple years ago I had issues with my imperials transmission All of a sudden it started slamming into gear downshifting really harsh it stop signs and I was losing reverse I bought the rebuild kit because the guy said it was going to be $1,400 to rebuild the transmission I hooked up a air compressor to the transmission lines blew out all the old fluid put new speed sensors in new filter new pan gasket all brand new fluid and a solenoid pack completely fixed it also put friction modifier in it too It hasn't acted up since!
