    Although not new materials, ive had success using a bonding primer to the existing Azek then applying the finish. Good stuff!

      I’ve never had an issue getting product to bond to it. From what I understand the issue comes from the heat generated by the darker colors. The Azek will actually deform and twist if it heats up enough

    Interesting. I just painted a small piece of AZEK today with PVC trim. I used a very dark color and coated it with Master Clear Supreme matte. It's just an address plate mounted on a house. They have porcelain or ceramic tiles with the numbers and I had to cut the PVC trim so that it would over the edges of the tiles to hold them. So, I'll see if the paint fails. I'm counting on the clear coat to keep it intact.

      From what I understand, the issue stems from the dark paint causing the PVC to heat up and warp. The PVC can then twist and that’s what causes the issues. I don’t know how common an issue this is, but I’d imagine the more surface area you’re dealing with the more likely you are to run into issues.

    Azek's website, under resources tab has dark colors approved by them listed. PPG and Sherwin Williams are bot included along with others but PPG has the darker approved paints. At least this is my understanding. Nice video.

      The approved list is interesting. From what I understand it’s a heat issue. If the Azek heats up enough it’ll twist. I’ve never seen it, but I’ve also never tried a super dark color on Azek. Thanks for watching!

    great information. I have a job currently completing. I need to paint the trim black (with white hardy board siding) to match the house scheme. You mentioned a different product to go dark. Boral ? can you tell me more about this product please.

    • @SuperVassarBrothers
      @SuperVassarBrothers  3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Boral is another type of synthetic trim but it can be painted a dark color like black.

    Thank you for all the helpful information. In your past videos you used Sherwin Williams for the interior. Aside from using BM for exterior trim, what is your brand choice for an exterior concrete home.

      We use Benjamin Moore’s Moorgaurd low Lustre for the larger surfaces on exteriors. Then we use the Moorglo soft-gloss for all the trim / doors / shutters.

    Thanks for the great tips. Question... if Azek was never painted when originally installed the corners, caulk joints, etc. are now very dirty and don't clean up easy. Do you have to remove the old caulk or can you just paint right over it? Thanks.

    • @SuperVassarBrothers
      @SuperVassarBrothers  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      As long as the caulk isn’t cracked out then you can just paint over it. If the caulking is cracking out and there’s gaps, then I’d recommend re-caulking those areas then running your top coats of paint.

    Unrelated to this specific video but we just had our interior trim painted. This included our fireplace. They used a flat white. It now feels chalky and does not match the rest of the trim. My question is - can we go over it once or so with more of a semi glass?

    • @SuperVassarBrothers
      @SuperVassarBrothers  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes you can go over it with semi-gloss. Your trim paint should adhere to that with no issues but you’ll likely have to do 2 coats to get a uniform looking finish.

    Even if you use a good primer, the dark paint will still fail? That is weird. I never heard that for any other material, especially given that PVC is not supposed to expand and contract that much. Here in Arizona we have to use a couple of coats of primer when painting dark trim, especially with natural wood that expands and contracts so much, but not azek...interesting.

    • @SuperVassarBrothers
      @SuperVassarBrothers  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Apparently the PVC material can heat up to a point where it will start to contort and twist. I kinda want to try it on a sample to see what that looks like

  • @dangallagher6975

    does azek come pre primed?

    • @SuperVassarBrothers
      @SuperVassarBrothers  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      So it's not pre-primed but it functions as though it was. It's a PVC material that's ready to receive paint so you don't have to prime it before you start hitting it with your finish paint. At least that that has been the case with all the paints I've used on it.

      @davidpiper304 yeah for good reason. The aura in my book is over priced even as a contractor . Most guys go with regal for insides , they have cheaper lines of exterior paints that work great. But most paint is around 35 to 55 per gal now because of joe biden
