    Sometimes when I see at forums or here at TH-cam, videos of the "best tactic creating 5xG per game" or the "tactic to get champions league at underdog" I cant believe how people like to play the game that way, here you just put a heavy top formation and a balanced mentality with some aggresive roles, and you banged Frankfurt 4-1, thats the beauty, less is more, less let you learn, less let you fail as well and know why, thats the hole point and you here at your channel are giving us that.
    I love football and I think that football manager is the closest to real football that you can get, and learn how to apply concepts, styles and ways of development comes with the simplicity that you are explaining. As always you have my like, ofc I think that you are the best content creator of FM at the moment (at least on the tactics part). I believe that next step after you finish this tactics series is to put yourself on guides how to squad assessment, squad building, players development, managing morale, happiness and hierarchy inside, factors that if you really pay attention, can make a decent season turn into a overachieving season.

    • @VurtAddicted
      @VurtAddicted 27 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      I would add: this is one of the very very few channels left for those who actually play the game. Any tactic that works in simulation can be ridiculous in actual game play

    • @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker
      @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker  27 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Thank you for the kind words! For me really this is the best way to try out your tactics. I alluded to it in the video, but it's sooooo much easier to see what's wrong with you only have a couple of variables.
      And I agree, I think FM is incredibly realistc and an excellent represenation of football. We should expect to lose matches and it's very rare to see a team completely dominate for an entire season (very top clubs excluded). Aston Villa had an amazing season last year, and they still lost 10 premier league matches.
      Thanks for the suggestion, and I hope to get into more of the "other" FM stuff (morale, squad stuff, etc...) as I get to towards the end of the player roles

    Quick and obvious suggestion for the newcomers of FM: under bad weather, use more direct passing. Also, what the Master says is 100% sure with one exception: if you leave your players with higher freedom to express, they will consider all your team instructions much less. That's a very good way of attacking with highly technical and high flair players.
    Subscribing to patreon and discord asap, best channel for FM by a mile

      @@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker LOL that's exactly what happens. Unfortunately sometimes for the good, sometimes not. But it seem to be much more related to the offense, it's like "let me do whatever the hell I want when we have the ball". Also very funny together with high flair, high technique and the "tries tricks" trait: it triggers animations I never believed could exist

    What is your opinion on a players positional/role familiarity? It takes quite some time for a player to get a "full bar" of familiarity. Even though it is in his prefered position. So changing a player, like a midfielder from a DLP to a CM, will often see quite a drop in familiarity.
    Does it matter? Or do you have to give the player 10 games to before can tell if a tweak is working?

    • @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker
      @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker  26 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Thank you!
      The thing about positional familarity for tactics is that I don't pay a ton of attention to it, but I probably should pay more attention to it (if that makes any sense). Meaning, the real answer is probably somewhere in the middle. If you've got a consistent tactic that you like, try to keep the same players in their same position. But I wouldn't let it stop you from experimenting or adjusting to your opponent.
      With that said, I do pay a lot of attention to "Team Cohesion" in the Dynamics screen. Your team cohesion will impact basically every aspect of your team during a match, so I try to keep morale and the club atmosphere high.

    Honestly I have no words for how brilliant these videos are. Again, you’ve completely redefined the way I think about tactical instructions. I love love LOVE this video and cannot wait to try this tonight!
    Question: given your style of play, do you ever use any opposition instructions? Maybe a video suggestion if you do 😉
    I’ve never had a lot of luck with them! I once tried to man mark someone out of the game against city, only for then sterling to be moved into the pocket of space being created by the marking instruction. He scored the winner to make it taste all the more bitter!

    • @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker
      @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker  25 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      that means so much, thank you for saying! Helps with making videos knowing people have been able to get knowledge/enjoyment out of them.
      For your question, in my normal saves, I usually go light on opposition instructions. The one I like to do is scout the opposing center backs and see which one has low composure. If you press/tackle harder a CB with that low composure, you could force a turnover.
      But too many and I find my playes are just running everywhere with no clear plan haha. Kinda like your example; it's easy to leave gaps in your defensive shape

    Your videos on FM24 are absolutely top-notch! I love how you break down your tactics and analyse how they're working on the pitch. It's really insightful.
    I was wondering, how do you see this tactic evolving moving forward? Would you consider adding any team instructions? For example, you mentioned how your team seemed to be caught between pressing and holding shape. Do you think a high press instruction or moving the defensive line up to get the wing-backs even higher could help address this?
    Keep up the great work! I'm looking forward to seeing more of your videos. It would be really cool to see how you develop a tactic over a few games or even a season.

      @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker  18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      thank you!! And actually I think that would be a pretty cool idea for a video, thanks for the suggestion. Talking about how to iterate on a tactic.
      But to at least answer your question, I would probably add a couple handful of instructions, mainly out of possession. Like you said, sometimes the press didn't work exactly how I wanted, to I would slowly add in some instructions to work on it. Sometimes adding a bunch too quickly means you don't know which ones are changing the team, and I was really happy with how they performed on the attacking side

    Watching the 2nd half highlights made me a bit curious; is the Inverted Full Back that necessary to be introduced on FM? The half back literally did the exact same amount of work in the pitch.
    I'm just asking because I've never been a fan of it and I try to understand if there's any importance or benefit playing with IFBs.

    • @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker
      @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker  25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I look at the IFB as more of an option, not necessarily better or worse. For example, in this match if one of my Wing Backs got hurt, and all I had was center backs on the bench, I could sub them in and change the role to an IFB. This would still give me the back 3 I want to stop their counter without needing to use a center back as a WB.
      And it means I could change the half back to something else (maybe switch the midfield around, put another up top, etc...)

    Hey, great and informative video as usual. I'm currently struggling with implementing an attacking tactic. This is what I'd like to see my team doing:
    - Build up from defense while my attacking players (4321 and/or 433, 3box3 when in possession) push up the opponent defensive line
    - mainly short passes to increase possession and attract pressure, but from time to time I'd like my defense to try long balls for the attacking players
    - (this is hard) position interchange between the 3 midfielders
    - Defensively, high press when in the opposition half, mid block when in my own half
    I tried everything, from team to player instructions, it never seems to work. Is it viable?
    Also, and this is something I'm struggling with every tactics this year, any way to counter complete wingbacks without man marking them with my wingers and use gegenpressen?

    • @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker
      @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker  27 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Thanks! Glad you liked the video. Here's some tips!
      Generally, a 433 is easier to build out from the back because of how the midfield is set up, so I'd start there. Using the "play out of defense" and "distribute to center/full backs" should do the trick.
      If you want your defenders/deeper players to try long passes, roles like the ball playing defender, libero, deep lying playmaker, and regista will all want to play those passes. Roles like the ball winning midfielder, defensive midfielder, central defender all like to play short passes.
      The positional interchange would vary a lot depending on player roles, so that would need tweaking and adjustments. It also generally happens naturally; for example, in this video, one of the clips my inside forward went wide and my wing back went into the half space for positional interchange.
      The press just tells your team where to engage the opponent when they have the ball A high press will engage them sooner and a mid block would be more balanced. You could try a high press and a standard defensive line; might give you more coverage of the field if that's what you're looking for.
      As far as the CWB, you could always keep a role dedicated to staying back and shutting down the flank. Like a Full Back (D) or the No Nonsense Full Back
      Anyways, hopefully these tips help, or at least get you started!

      Not to poach my video haha, but I would pick a formation that you like and some player roles and then start there. Don't use any instructions, and focus on the player roles and see who is losing the ball. For example, ball playing defenders have a tendency to try risky passes; Wingers will want to dribble more and that can lead to turnovers, etc.... In addition, higher tempo and/or more direct passing can also lead to turnovers, as your players are trying risky plays more often and making that decision quicker.
      For me, there's two types of turnovers: one where the player makes the right play, but it doesn't work (these are acceptable to me.) The other is the player does something not smart, then it's time to figure out if it's the player role or the player.
      Also, if you're team isn't closing down the ball effectively, go the other way. Tell them to press less often and keep your team shape.
      Hope those help! I know FM is can be very frustrating but hopefully these tips can give you a starting point

      @@TheDeepLyingPlaymakerthanks for the reply! I’ve watched a-lot of your stuff over the last couple days so been hard to digest it all in the one go (purely on me haha) but took your advice and it’s really nice to see it all come together, a DLP really does lay deep and find runs. I find that the lack of instructions like you said in the video breeds a lot of freedom and lets the roles be as affective as they can be, particularly for me a Wide AP and a SS have been causing half space chaos with an overlapping wingback.

    Hi mate love your videos, wondeing if you could do one explaining the difference between a Defensive midfielder and ball winning mid as I use them in my 4-3-1-2 formating but never know which is the best role to go for for my 3 defensive mids, I have a deep lying playmaker in the centre then either Bwm or Dm each side of him, although just bought a SV for this season so might use him in one of the roles instead, thanks. Also some advice on cover, stopper and defend for CB would be usefull too.

      The Defensive Midfielder is like the Central Midfielder. Meaning he won't leave the center of the field too much and he'll give you proper cover. He won't be the most exciting role though lol.
      With a formation with 3 defensive mids, I would use the DM(D). That'll let your DLP follow the ball around and your new SV push up the field. With the BWM, he'll chase the ball so you'd have 3 defensive mids that are all leaving their position at different points which could leave you exposed.
      The DM(D) isn't as glamorous, but you'll know exactly where he'll be when defending.

      @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker thanks mate, much appreciated. It took me about 3-4 seasons to get promoted with Blackburn finished in playoffs then just ouside using a control possession type of tactic, using 4-1-2-2-1 then switched to 4-3-1-2 using genpress, shot up the table finished second and now finished 9th in prem 2 seasons in a row so going pretty good. Just lost my first game of the season against an easy Fulham side with the best team ive ever had so gonna try some new things out later today after watching your videos and see how it goes, maybe its time for a new tactic👍
