Hey man, huge fan of all your videos so far I was wondering if you could do a video on the data hub and how to utilise it. What to look for and what changes to try and implement based on what you see. Cheers!
Another incredibly useful video along with the halfback one you did. I have a concept for a team with similarities to your Leverkusen set-up but with the main difference being a shadow striker instructed to mark the right sided CM instead of a Mezalla. Do you think this would work well in encouraging the CWB to drift even further into the centre? Would the shadow striker drop deep enough to reform the 4-3-3 shape? can you tell me where you got that henley? will the SS need therapy and new legs after playing three matches?
The important thing first: the henley is from the Gap. And on that topic, the henley is an underrated piece of clothing. If I ever did a video of "what is the top 5 underrated things to wear" a henley may be #1. As for your other question: if you'll allow me to promote myself, in case you haven't seen it my Deep Lying Forward/Shadow Striker combo video uses Leverkusen and a Shadow Striker. It's a 4231 instead of a 433, but it uses the same idea (sit back, hit on the counter). May give you some ideas on the how the role will play out. The Shadow Striker will work nice with the CWB. He'll drop deep to help with the build up but move up into the striker position as you move into the final third. Should give room for your CWB to do those CWB things. In defense, your mileage may vary with role. He'll help, but it's an attacking midfield so player attributes will have a big effect (namely work rate and teamwork). That was probably more than you wanted but there you go haha
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker A justly informative response, i've seen all of the videos you've put out. I think I have a tendency to forget that the SS does drop to build up instead of just waiting to surge on. The henley is very adaptable, bit like you guv.
I don't mean this to be insulting to the great content creators out there who are constantly creating tactics - but your method is so much more realistic, and educational and I don't think you get enough credit for it yet. Hopefully The FM Show Podcast has you on to discuss your methods further. I have been using your possession tactic with some slight tweaks and find it so much more realistic while maintaining the challenge of the game - whereas most downloadable tactics seem to end up being "gamey." I hope you'll keep creating videos. Is there anywhere else to see your stuff or is this channel your primary?
Thank you that was very kind! I'd love to be on the podcast one day; and that's awesome that you've further adjusted the possession tactic! I find this way of tactic building more realistic as well. I like the element of "luck" involved in winning a match...you do what you can to put your team in the best position to win, and after that, it's out of your hands. And nope, pretty much just live here on youtube and in the comment section lol. I've looked into other avenues, but right at the moment, just here on YT.
Could you possibly consider making a video based on a lower or mid table side who need to be more defence minded against the top clubs but more aggressive against similar and poorer clubs? This is where I personally struggle and because I also find that changing tactics leads to less consistent results, I usually just use a plug and play tactic throughout the season. Many thanks.
My video about the "defensive tactic" is my save with Luton when we played Arsenal and I talk about a strategy to try and stop them. May help you out! I find creating tactics with only a few instructions will help with familiarity. If you only have maybe 2-4 instructions, and you change them, there's not that much to get used to . But if you have a tactic that has 8-10 instructions, and then you change that, it can affect your team's familiarity
How would you setup pressing trap for a 3-man defense in a low block? Basically the weak areas of these formations are down the flanks but especially when you face a formation with an wide midfielder and full-back, they can work around the inside tripping easier.
Hmm.. that's a good one. I would probably still try the inside trap like in this video, but then use stop crosses instead. Keep our team wide the entire time and force them into our strength, the numbers in the midfield, and negate their strength out on the wings.
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker that's what I've been trying. Often leads to huge amount of corner kicks and eventually the team conceding as defenders are really bad at clearing the ball from set pieces this year. I'm trying to play a low block combined with a relatively high defensive line to compress the space away between our three main lines (CBs, WB & DM and AM+STs).
I was under the impression that "Trap inside" worked the opposite way, or maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're saying here? By putting on invite crosses it sounds like you want a compact, narrow team, and force the opposition to the flanks, and close their possibility of cutting inside. Wouldn't trap inside ruin that? Doesnt that widen the team and try to shut down the flanks off the opposition? Or maybe I'm mixing them together. Is the "cross engagement" basically in the final third (our defense) and pressing trap in our final third/middle of the field?
Yea you're on it in the second part. So "trap inside/outside" works during their build up, when they're in their own half of the field and progressing the ball. The "stop/invite crosses" is when we're defending our final third. Meaning during their build up = our defensive shape is wide. This forces them centrally where winning the ball can be good for a counter. And then the defensive third = our defensive shape is compact. This either traps the ball or forces them out wide, taking away space for them in front of our goal. I'm not sure the exact minute in this video, but our goal stems from this trapping system. We play wide and force them into the center of the field and then close in around them and win the ball. It's a fun dynamic to add while defending!
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker Interesting! I always thought I had to combine the right way to force them either on the inside or outside for both. This is cool! Maybe I can emulate the super narrow front 3 my team presses with and still invite crosses etc :)
Hey so I wanted to make a tactic similar to Neil Warnocks philosophy which is very pragmatic and defensive. Would defensive mentality throughout a season be doable ?
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker I’ve had very mixed results. Some games I just get battered 5-0. Some games I get the 1-0 that i love haha. Im just trying to create a solid defensive team with some form of counter threat.
Hi, i love the video but i have a question. Since you want to protect the center of the pitch, wouldnt it be wiser to trap them outside instead of insise? cheers
I know it seems like I'm answering both sides haha but yep! You are right. I am inviting them in to the center even though I want to protect the center. But winning the ball in the center can be better for a counter (more angles of passing when you win it as opposed to being on the sideline). And I only want to protect the center when they're near our goal, not necessarily every time they have the ball. This pressing trap allows them into the center (where it's better to win the ball) while also protecting the area in front of our goal if they get further. The best example of it is the trap that leads to our goal; allows them into the center where we trap the ball in the midfield and our counter starts. This is just one approach to trapping! There are many ways to use the pressing traps, and the one I used in this video was just one example of it. Hopefully this wasn't too confusing haha. I hope to make a video specifically dedicated to the pressing trap at some point
How do you deal with tactical familiarity? I always have difficulties with it when my players need to play a different player role or when I change the rythm or passing style.
It's tough. I probably should pay attention/care about it more than I do, but I enjoy switching tactics (not for any special reason, just a pure enjoyment level). For me personally, I care more about squad dynamics and how they play together. So if your squad dynamics are in a good spot (meaning they've played together for a while, good dressing room, etc..) then I think you have more leeway in getting away with switching tactics. This is one of the reasons I like to bring up player personalities
I still don't get why you have trap inside and invite crosses at the same time. Isn't that counter intuitive? Trapping inside means you are pressing wide so that you can win the ball centrally but inviting crosses means you are not pressing wide so that you are compact. I'm confused
Hmmm.. hopefully I can try to help clear it up a little :) The instructions are for different areas of the field. Trapping inside is when the opponent is in their build up (so in their own half, and into the midfield). We play wide to invite them into the center areas of the field. The invite crosses is when the opponent is in your final third. We will become more compact and play closer together. If you use those two together, my team will play wide while they opponent is building up, and then constrict around the ball as they get into our final third, (ideally) forcing a turnover. I hope to make a video on the pressing traps and I'll try to explain a little better in that one :)
I really love a 442 haha. If I ever make a video titled "These are my favorite formations" you won't even need to click on the video to know what my answer is
Unrelated to the video but why does the game have a bias certain roles? For example, the game reccomends i play every winger as an inverted winger on support and most of my cm's are either carilleros or mezzalas
That I'm not too sure of; it may have to do with your assistant manager recommendations and what he favors. Or if a player has equal recommendations in two roles, the game has a set order list it goes off of
the recommendations is less of actual, good recommendations and more of "hey, this player has great passing, vision, decision, and composure, so I select DLP and AP because those roles are highlighting said attributes as key attributes."
@@Brazio20 ohhh i see thank you. i'm not the most experienced and i've gotten to the point where i use role ability calculators because even tho it's cheating, i actually know what my player is best at without my brain exploding

Love the first tactic, has that Ranieri's Leicester vibe. Will try both Tactics on my Paris FC run.
I really love that style too; Strikers are easy to switch around so lots of tactical freedom with player roles
Started a game with Luton and was struggling with an counter attack, i was really hoping that an AF could work with a F9 with wide wingerd....i got some mixed results but won the carabao cup🎉 after seeing this video i can adjust some logical adjustments.
Thnx again
Hey Luton!!! Winning the Carabao Cup is a great achievement! I love any save with Luton, so consider me a fan of yours already haha. And yea, a Counter Tactic does take a lot of adjustments as you play. The bad thing is, sometimes you only know it's not working when you give up a goal haha
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker yes indeed a great achievement but i got really lucky with the opponents 😂.
In the competition it goes up and down from a nice win (2-1) over Chelsea to a big defeat (5-0) to Brentford.
Like you said before sometimes its best to keep it simple and enjoy the big wins and learn from your defeats.
@@johanvanbrakel2816 In some of the Luton stuff I've done, I actually really enjoyed not having the pressure of needing to win EVERY match.
Like if you're a top club, you basically have to win every match. But with Luton, we won 3 in a row and I was like that should hold us for the next 2 months from the bottom of the table
🤣🤣
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker i know exactly what you mean and thats why i love to play with smaller clubs but sometimes it can also be very frustrating......like i said i won from Chelsea with 2-1 (only got 2 shots on target 😁) and then lost to Brentford with 5-0 and we almost got the same amounts of (quality) shots 20-8 vs 18-7
AF & F9 could work, but you need to "support" F9 with runner that is taking advantage of the space left by F9, like you would do with DLF
Nah this guy is actually unreal! I dont normally comment on videos but im making an exception for you
Every video increases in spectacularity (not sure if this is a word)
Ha it's a word to me! Thank you!!
Mr. DLP, amazing work, you should stream some of your games on twitch
Maybe one day! Maybe if I ever get Luton to a cup final I'll stream the match haha
Still liking and commenting on every video as this TH-camr should be even bigger 🎉
Every little bit helps thank you
Think I'll copy the first tactic (and tweak as needed) into a new save with a mid table team and see how I get on. Thanks!
Good luck! And you're welcome to copy any tactics or ideas or anything you see in the videos. These are for information and education, so have fun stealing from them haha
Hey man, huge fan of all your videos so far
I was wondering if you could do a video on the data hub and how to utilise it. What to look for and what changes to try and implement based on what you see. Cheers!
Glad you enjoy the videos! And thanks for the suggestion, I think a data hub video would be really fun (and helpful) to make
didnt know about trap before ! useful as alway TY!
It's a lot of fun to get creative defensive shapes!
Its a life saver dude
thanks!
Man where do you get all this knowledge? you are cooking. everything covers perfectly to what I need and pls do adv playmaker next
thank you!! The advanced playmaker is on the way, but may not be the immediate future. Appreciate the support!
i ve been waiting for this one !
Hope you enjoy/enjoyed it!!
Anchor x Segundo combo again i love it
47 minutes is beautiful
Bro thank you so much !!!!!
Happy to help
Amazing Channel 🫵🤌
Thank you!!
Great video mate!
Do you use any player instructions on your tactics? I gotta know because I’m really looking for a good counter attacking tactic
Nope, no player instructions in these! Have fun with it haha
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker thank you!
I have a game vs Bayern with with Hapoel Tel Aviv (Israeli club) and I’ll try it out
Next advance playmaker 😊😊
finally🎉
My current club wants me to play entertaining football. Then let’s give them heart attack by using dangerous counter gameplay.
"you wanted me to win didn't you??? well enjoy this low block with all 11 players defending"
Would defensive mentality throughout a season be doable ?
hmmm; have you had some luck with the defensive mentality? or maybe even using the "play with more discipline" team instruction
Make a video on how to make a direct attacking football please 🙏🏼
great idea!! I do need to do some direct attacking videos
I wonder how do we invite pressure while still holding on possession like De Zerbi's Brighton? Utilize wasting time toggle + cautious?
I think cautious could work... definitely play out of defense and distribute to center backs
How about Possession tactic principles video sometime please? 😬
You're in luck! I've already got one on the channel and will be one of the more recent videos. It's there somewhere 👍
I still don't get why you have trap inside and invite crosses at the same time. Isn't that counter intuitive? Trapping inside means you are pressing wide so that you can win the ball centrally but inviting crosses means you are not pressing wide so that you are compact. I'm confused
Hmmm.. hopefully I can try to help clear it up a little :)
The instructions are for different areas of the field.
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker Thanks for the explanation. Makes sense now
Do you find trap outside or trap inside better ?
Depends on the team you're playing, but I like trap outside (generally) because the team will be more compact
We have a FM Simeone here 😂
I really love a 442 haha.
Or if a player has equal recommendations in two roles, the game has a set order list it goes off of
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker alright thank you very much
the recommendations is less of actual, good recommendations and more of "hey, this player has great passing, vision, decision, and composure, so I select DLP and AP because those roles are highlighting said attributes as key attributes."
@@Brazio20 ohhh i see thank you. i'm not the most experienced and i've gotten to the point where i use role ability calculators because even tho it's cheating, i actually know what my player is best at without my brain exploding
@@dicu4838 no problem. this is a single player game, the most important thing is to have fun so play it however you want to.
The video lasts for 22:23
Almost perfect symmetry
dang... had I known I would've edited it to be 22:22 haha
Im playing still fm23 and more direct passing doesnt provide good results, players just efortlessly hit long balls and strikers cannot hold up ball or drop ball for other one, dunno if ME seems like it doesnt fit the best with more direct passing
Yea, direct passes can really increase your turnover rate. It can be tricky to get working; feels like sometimes my players almost kick it to the opponent on purpose haha
Hello everybody and welcome 😬
Haha! I got the that from the Engineering Explained TH-cam channel. Always liked how he started his videos with that in every video
Can we have a video on making a tika taka tactic please
I plan to continue our journey through the different tactical styles!

If I don't mention space, did I even make a video??
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker not important. we love you brother.
@@volkanpalut1993 Much appreciated!! 🙌
Could you make a counter tactic even if you are one of the best teams in the league?
Sounds like gegenpress to me
I mean...you can. If you play counter with best team usually smaller team will just sit deep against you
@@mystoganfullbuster2540 well counter depends on having less possession usually so be wasteful and allow the opposition some joy to get counters
Aka play like man U
Definitely. Even with this video, I consider Leverkusen one of the top teams in the Bundesliga and they did great. I touched on it at the end of the video, but that's why I like to have multiple styles of the same formation. This way you can switch the tactic as needed during a match
You're using a different skin! What skin is that?
It's the "Classics24" skin from FMScout. Been feeling a more traditional look and sometimes it's easier to screengrab whatever I'm using instead of changing skins lol
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker Thanks dude
Problem is tactics that are attacking and countering in nature leave you open.
Very true! Definitely a high risk tactic
Awww, man
I thought it was Luton for real, lol
Haha I thought I'd take a brief break from Luton.
Why the not Luton? Are you a Luton supporter out of interest?:)
I don't think I mentioned it in a video yet, but I actually finished the Luton season! (spoiler alert: we stayed up 🤩). So I didn't have any matches to do for the video and I decided to head to the Bundesliga for this one
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker cheers for the reply! I didn’t realise you had a save going on!? Is that on twitch at all?

I seriously debated on doing a "now that we've done the smaller teams, let's head to the big club" and smash cut to Luton haha. But ultimately decided on Leverkusen
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker haha😅 do you think a counter tactic can be a main tactic? Like winning the league with a low block ?
