NASCAR Number History: 6-10 Remastered

- In NASCAR's first 75 seasons, there have been many numbers come and go. In this series, we tell the stories of each of those numbers.
The first 3 episodes of the series, while extremely influential to the channel, were missing quite a bit of information. Now that the offseason is among us, I wanted to go back and tell the whole story for the original 15.
We go in numerical order, so today we remaster numbers 6-10. Thanks so much for all the support, I wouldn't be able to do it without yall.

Be sure to put your honorable mentions for 11-15 below! Thanks yall!
The youngest driver to ever win a cup race was Joey Logano back in 2009 for JGR at the age of 19. Not much further up was T Bayne at 20.
Correct!
Fun fact about another guy who drove the 6. DK Ulrich, who spent his career as an independent, is the former brother in law of Ricky Rudd, and is the former stepfather of actor Skeet Ulrich, although Skeet considers DK his dad.
Aye great mention! Thanks a ton!
When the Ryan Newman crash shown at 5:24 happened , I thought that I had just witnessed another death at Daytona. It’s a miracle that he survived that relatively uninjured.
I did too, I kept refreshing twitter every second waiting for an update
I'm convinced he busted his balls
I hope Brad wins a lot next year, he’s the man
I want him to win so badly!
Same here
I think Brad will take the #6 to Victory Lane in 2024 with as much progress as he has made with the team, hell, as much progress as he has made with the entire organization.
i am too late now but honorable mention for the 14 (shr era)
Mark Martin and Austin Dillon driving the shr 14 in 2013 (the fact that martin drove for 3 diff teams in 2013 is crazy)
Honerable mentions for next one (accidenntally did 15-20)
15:Ryan Preece technically won a heat race for the inaugural coliseum clash, as the winner, Ty Dillon, lost it because of a restart violation
16: Although Justin Haley drove for Kaulig while it started in the cup series, but he only made 1 start with the team's first cup number at the fall talledega race
17:Zane Smith and Ron Hornaday jr
18:Matt Crafton and Regan Smith
19:Elliot Sadler, Mike Bliss, Jason Leffler, and Alex Kennedy
20: races 2-14 were all dnfs
12 metion Ryan Newman's flip
Daniel Hemric piloted the 8 for select races in 2018 and won ROTY in the 8 in 2019.
For a while, and it was a LONG while, Donald Thomas (who was mentioned as one of the winners for the #9) was the youngest Cup Series winner in history, it took until quite a while into the modern era (I believe maybe into the 2000's? maybe even Logano?) to break his age record. And he didn't even drive the full race, Herb subbed for him partway through.
I never knew that Guitar Hero Metallica scheme existed but I love it
It’s a good one!
And Greg Sacks was known for running those R&D cars at superspeedways super well. I think it was 1989? 1990? he ran the 18 as a second car for Hendrick back when they were a 1 car team at Talladega as an R&D entry and was 2nd to Dale
Well, now we have BK as the last winner in the 6
Don’t forget Ricky Bobby’s dad Reese as an honorable mention for #13😁
I love this 😂
I like to think Danica got the real last laugh after the Landica Incident in 2012, cuz she actually did do better in cup than Landon, 1 pole, 7 top tens, 2 All Star fan votes, and never missed a race, Landon has 2 top 5s which are his only top tens in cup, bounced between teams, and a few DNQs. I still think Danica should’ve done something different at Kansas like cutting him off, but history is history. And both learned the first 2 rules the hard way, #1 for her, #2 for him (Expecting revenge without getting revenged)
Thanks for the mention
Thanks for the great mention!
Honourable mention for the 15 Clint bowyer
Great mention!
2 facts here: Joe Weatherly's death is the reason the cars have window nets now, and Corey LaJoie and Spire are based out of Alan Kulwicki's old shop.
Great additions! Thanks a ton!
Jonney Rutherford in the 13 and he won 1 race in 1963
The ONLY winner for the 13!
Greg Sacks’ win was the biggest reason for Bobby Allison leaving DiGard. Actually running that car was it.
To be really specific, the fact that it ran the entire and race instead of starting and parking like it was supposed to did it
#11 Mark Martin
#12 Mike Alexander
#13 David Starr, Garrett Smithley
#14 Mark Martin, ran his final race in this car
#15 Ross Chastain
Honorable Mentions
Neil Bonnet for the 12, Dale Earnhardt sr for the 15 for 1982 and 1983 after he left RCR after the rest of the 1981 season and before his return to rcr in 1983.
Great mentions!
@@DoglegMediaMattif I remember before the video came out but Richard Petty did drive the number 6 for the 600 in the 1980s when he failed to qualify with the 43. The STP logos did not look good on the green number 6
@@mikebeall4205 I’m going to have to research that!
Richard Petty had to 'rent' DK Ulrich's 6 car and ran it in a race with STP all over it because the 43 didn't qualify or something. Back in the 70s.
I’ve heard this story, great mention!
Only 2:08 in and this is complete 🔥🔥🔥
👏👏👏👏
You are too kind! I thought the voice was rough this go around with a lingering illness too 😅
@@DoglegMediaMatt that’s how it goes. Figure out a way to coat your throat to replicate that. There are a bunch of amazing teas and things to really help a vocalist of any type whether it be music or commentary.
Keep up the great work. You got this.
You forgot Daniel Hermic as Honorable Mention. He was in the 8 before Reddick.👍👍
Very true!
Joey Logano

Honorable Mention for the 15, JJ Yeley who almost qualified a Rick Ware car on the front row at Bristol Dirt in 2023 and made his first start in the number when Cobb was denied by NASCAR in 2021 at Talledega.

so, are you gonna cover numbers 00 to 09 like for instance, the Clint Bowyer 07
That video is already out! This is a remaster as when I first did these numbers I left a lot of winners out!
Sadly I can’t come with any dad-joke level puns this week. Sorry.
Dang, I am hurt but I understand 😅
Actually I just thought of one, but it will require you to be fluent in the arts of British clay animation in order to understand it. It is…
There’s no use prevaricating about the Busch.
