The whole incentive of getting a 650 is for the crotch rocket abilities with the cruiser like comfort. The free mods you get on the vulcan 900 are more than worth it. I know guys on 14,000 Harley's that prefer their 5k Vulcan 900 any day. You should just watch some videos and see which ones you like. I can tell you that you will be extremely comfortable on any bike you choose. I am 6'2" 240 and fit on both very well. You will get a better deal on a 900 I will also say. The increased comfort and bigger gas tank of the 900 is much much better for just cruising around. The V-twin on it is a little better on gas too I have found also. I would say never ever buy from a dealership. It might say its 7k at a dealership, but when you walk out the door it ends up being 10k lol. Get a trusted motorcycle guy to inspect any bike you buy (usually just a one man operation that works out of a garage/warehouse). You really can't go wrong with Kawasaki's. I never really wanted to go the Honda route either 😂 You are right to think that it is still a bit much. If you just look around on various websites you can find the most insane deals. I have seen like new vulcan 900's for like 4k. Lots of these older guys plan on just taking it out a few times a year then their wife makes them get rid of it or it just sits in a garage for 10 years 🤣. If you know someone with a trailer you can borrow, that is even better for if you want to buy one out of state. If its a Kawasaki that you only ride every once in a while, it will last you over a decade lol.
honestly, in love with the rebel's look, Honda can maybe work on a better paint scheme (just my opinion), but other than that its a solid looking bike. better performance than probably any other cruiser in the segment. i would 10/10 havee this over any other cruiser.
I regretted getting mine after 5 days of ownership it was my first bike so good starter bike but definitely wish I got a 600 I just didn’t know what I wanted at the time but it is a good cruiser daily driver though I sold it and got a Toyota as a daily I will ride again one day! Your rebel looks dope!
people get to caught up in getting the biggest and baddest, but there is a ton of fun in smaller displacement bikes. i miss my rebel 250. my first bike. someone stole it.
I rode Japanese bikes for about 15 years, then I did Harley's for the past 17 years, mostly Sportsters. I don't really like the direction Harley is going lately and once they discontinue the Evo Sportster at the end of this year I'm done with them. So I've been looking at Honda's, Yamahas, Suzuki's, and Kawasaki's lately. I really like what they've done with the Rebel 500 and I think if I was in the market right now for a brand new bike I would definitely have to take one of these for a ride. For those that think 500 cc motorcycle is small, take a look at a 1981 GL500 Honda Silver Wing interstate. I took one of those halfway around the country, literally. There was a time when a 750 was considered the big bike that people wanted to graduate to and the 400-650 bikes were the average size motorcycle that just about everybody rode.
My son bought a brand new 2021 Rebel 500 last year and loved it but ended up selling it about seven months later because that’s how long it took for him to outgrow it.
I’m late but I was watching the video and was like hey that landscape looks familiar. Wait that road looks familiar. Wait those buildings look familiar. Lol you live like right next to me bro. 801 represent
Saw a guy yesterday riding one. I caught up to him for a bit and the only thing that I had an issue with was the engine sound, it sounds tiny for a cruiser. The bike looks great in person.
I think this bike looks very nice, esp with the brown grips. I learned on one of these before I took my test, so I have a soft spot for them. But they look and sound great. Well done.
I've had my Rebel for about a year and a half now, and I absolutely love it. I do wish it were the 1100, but it was perfect as a starter bike. I even have those same Vans grips that you have.
I feel you wanting to keep miles off the GTi. I have 108k on my 2016. I commute a lot! Been looking at the rebel 500 a while. My last bike was a Z125 which isn’t freeway legal so I sold it and haven’t replaced it yet. Thanks for this video and making me want a rebel even more. I wish it had a bigger budget but… that’s just how it is. Cheers to a fellow VW head.
You could also get one of Honda's other 500's. The cb500f and cbr500r have a the same motor, but they changed something for the rebel to give it more a cruiser thump. So I imagine the other two are abit lighter feeling.
Best video I've seen on the Rebel 500 buddy, I had a 2004 R33 but I let it go 😢. I do have a 2016 Jetta Sport 1.8T & I still have my 2003 Passat W8 and it rocks. Anyway, thank you again for the great review!
I’ve had a dirt bike, never a motorcycle, and I wouldn’t mind getting one of these as a beginner, especially just to go to and from work which isn’t too far from where I live, so it would be nice.
I keep so many miles off my cars by shopping and running errands on my bikes. I have a Cub with a milk crate and I have a day pack for groceries. Try it. It makes it fun to grocery shop. Sounds lame, but you will notice a difference. It's a lifestyle. I get 115MPG on the cub.
I have the 2022 model and sometimes when I’m down in Mexico I’ll try to see how fast I can get it. I can usually get it up to about 103mph. I’m a small dude so it really doesn’t struggle too much until high 90s.
This was one of the bikes I was lookin into purchasing when I was looking for my first bike, I ended up getting the Indian scout bobber but I know I would of definitely enjoyed the rebel
@@daddylongleg21 hi there, I love my scout bobber bro. Pros: PLENTY of power, great looks, lots of fun to ride. Cons: REPLACE THE SEAT! 😂😂 Very low bike which is a great look but not a lot of leaning availability, the suspension is good but again, because it’s a low bike, it’s a little rougher ride than a bagger. It’s a bobber so it’s pretty much a naked cruiser “race bike” I don’t regret buying it at all. There’s other bikes that offer you more features like cruise control, traction control, screen odometer for the same price, but my Indian is a fantastic traditional good ol’ American experience
@@Gussi145 seriously thank you so much for this. I’m 5’6 so I was hoping it’d be a good low bike for me. I want something I can grow into once I get more comfortable.
Nice mods! I am getting my first Rebel 500 too. You also mentioned modifying your rear fender to look more like a bobber style. Would you recommend replacing the tires with thicker ones like some off road look? I plan to mod my bike to look like that. What do you think?
@@ItsJustJakeYT Right? and then if you want, you can drop down the handle bar some more to make it really look like a cafe racer. ;) Just my thoughts. Thanks again.
You'd have to check the clearances on the swingarm and brakes maybe. But the Swingarm might be the only limitation if you don't bottom out the rear shock.
Cool video, I liked how natural you are plain and simple and to the point, not evenly sure why I clicked on this video it is not a bike am interested in, but I do like how raw it sounded, I think it is a good in town little bike, it is always good to keep a Lott bike for local errands and a big bike for long distance cruising, so that bike seems pretty cool for what it is, but I think I would still rather have a Sporster Iron instead.
My life is changing, and unfortunately, I'll have to sell my Suzuki at some point in the next 6 months. It's a VStrom I've put thousands of dollars into but I think I'm moving north after college is done in May. I'll probably get a Can Am Ryker when I'm up there, but one day I'd love to get a cruiser like the Rebel. I love the comfortable style more than the sport touring.
My Rebel 500 is an excellent second bike, not my main bike Ducati xDiavel, that is for my gf or guest. Easy to ride. Perfect for a starter bike. Fun, basic motorcycling. Brilliant.
Well for me this past winter too cold to ride was not in my vocabulary. The coldest time ridden was 14°F and I did that for an hour and 20 minutes one way both ways.
www.harborfreight.com/motorcycle-swingarm-rear-stand-65620.html I had swapped the exhaust out before buying the stand. But I am pretty positive that it would not work with the stock exhaust from what I’ve heard
Your voice sounded really familiar, then I scrolled through your channel and realized who you were, I used to watch your edc videos, when they were on your channel
Last year I traded in my zx6r for a 2021 Kawasaki Vulcan S ABS and I’m still amazed how fun the bike is to ride. I don’t care about speed and I’m not trying to pay a fortune for insurance so I think the low cc bikes are perfect.
It depends on how you see it. In America (or the US specifically) people see these bikes (the rebel and Vulcan) as low cc bikes, but in almost any other part of the world they are considered mid-big bikes because everybody rides 125cc to 250cc bikes as commuter bikes or as weekend bikes
I haven’t thought about having a bike for 30 some years, since I sold my 78 Suzuki GS 850. I happened on a random video about someone making a cafe racer out of one, which was really cool, now all of a sudden I’m feeling the itch to get a bike again. I’m really intrigued by these Rebels. I’m not interested in a super fast sport bike or a huge, heavy Harley, and one of these seems like a fun lightweight ride. I don’t need or want a powerhouse.
I have a 21 rebel 500 abs and I love it. Sadly I can't go over 660cc as the nz government won't allow it but that doesn't bother me. Plan to keep my bike for awhile
some of those breakin in period things are complete myths, you basically shave material off the inside of the engine block, that is the break in period, to get a perfect seal between the engine block and the pistons, if you go for a long ride on the freeride it's bad because of the constant heat in the new engine, if you don't ride that long it's fine, you shouldn't rev it like crazy but at the same time you should definitely not only drive in mid rpm like some people claim, that bike isn't only gonna be moved in the mid rpm so it wouldn't do it any service while breaking in
Another thing about Hondas they say they have break in periods but they in fact do not my cousin left break in oil in his 250 recon for about a year before he changed it stills runs after like 2 years
its a nice looking bike but i hated driving it because i found that it lacks power on the highway and its not confortable. the suspension is so hard you feel everybump but the worst thing for me was the engine/transmission offset on the right peg, makes my leg and feet unconfortable after a while. Anyway I just bought my 1200C harley sportsters and now Im happy :D
I have a Harley Nightster. And a complicated relationship with it. I think this rebel is a better choice between the two. Especially on price. I essentially payed the price of a car for Honda with a Harley Nameplate.
My 83 yr dad just bought a Honda Rebel 500. Cool dad! Cheers/Tom Yamaha Tracer 9GT (Yes so much faster and louder) Yamaha Tricity 300 (Perfect every day)
I’m looking to get my license and will in the spring. As a first time driver who has never driven a bike what do you recommend I should go into, something that’s not to expensive. I’m 6’ 1” 260lbs
not sure the price of the bike, does the math really work out, buying new, mpg, mods, so save money/mileage? or is it acceptable and you get the fun of a bike...
So you drive a Rebel but you are a rambler... 😜 Very nice bike. I want one so thanks for the video. I also want grips in orange. I saw Burch having those and also have an orange tankcover.
I never really wanted to go the Honda route either 😂
You are right to think that it is still a bit much.
“I was gonna honk the crap out of it but she waved” love it
honestly, in love with the rebel's look, Honda can maybe work on a better paint scheme (just my opinion), but other than that its a solid looking bike. better performance than probably any other cruiser in the segment. i would 10/10 havee this over any other cruiser.
This one is just beautiful, I'm sure when I get my hands on it, it will be worth every penny.
My son bought a brand new 2021 Rebel 500 last year and loved it but ended up selling it about seven months later because that’s how long it took for him to outgrow it.
Awesome Bike, looks cool and comfortable. You should go with those mod ideas and keep it around
yep fair assessment Jake. Many folks mistake it for a Harley. and next to my brothers Harley, hard to tell. It's a great bike.
I learned to ride on a rebel 500 this year. I upgraded in about 3 months. Fun bike though and great for learning.
I’m late but I was watching the video and was like hey that landscape looks familiar. Wait that road looks familiar. Wait those buildings look familiar. Lol you live like right next to me bro. 801 represent
Hell yea bro!
I'm deciding between the 2023 Rebel 500 and the 2023 CB500f I'm not too sure yet. I'm a new rider.
Saw a guy yesterday riding one. I caught up to him for a bit and the only thing that I had an issue with was the engine sound, it sounds tiny for a cruiser. The bike looks great in person.
My first bike was an '81 CB650C.
Neighbour has a rebel 500. I was always incredibly jealous that his bike always started on the first try....
I think this bike looks very nice, esp with the brown grips. I learned on one of these before I took my test, so I have a soft spot for them. But they look and sound great. Well done.
🤘🏼🤘🏼
Thank you sir!
I’ve had a dirt bike, never a motorcycle, and I wouldn’t mind getting one of these as a beginner, especially just to go to and from work which isn’t too far from where I live, so it would be nice.
Just researching getting one of these and realized I must not live far from you I recognized where you were a few minutes in lol
🤘🏼
I keep so many miles off my cars by shopping and running errands on my bikes. I have a Cub with a milk crate and I have a day pack for groceries. Try it. It makes it fun to grocery shop. Sounds lame, but you will notice a difference. It's a lifestyle. I get 115MPG on the cub.
Feel you on that wave…lol I always ready to flip off until I get wave, Yup we all make mistakes but let’s stay safe
It sounds like the ECM unlocked the full engine potential after a certain number of break in miles were reached...
I have the 2022 model and sometimes when I’m down in Mexico I’ll try to see how fast I can get it. I can usually get it up to about 103mph. I’m a small dude so it really doesn’t struggle too much until high 90s.
What a beautiful bike man ! Ride safe man ! i will test ride this bike soon !
its so sad that Honda stoped producing the rebel model to brazil around 2010 :( wish we could get that here
Where is this?? location looks nice with the mountains in the back
Ayeeee i have a golf R and im picking up my rebel 500 Friday! 🔥 good combo😉
This was one of the bikes I was lookin into purchasing when I was looking for my first bike, I ended up getting the Indian scout bobber but I know I would of definitely enjoyed the rebel
I would say you couldn’t have gone wrong either way!
@@ItsJustJakeYT idc, I absolutely love my Indian 😂
Looking at the Indian scout bobber. How do you like it?
@@daddylongleg21 hi there, I love my scout bobber bro.
Pros:
PLENTY of power, great looks, lots of fun to ride.
Cons:
REPLACE THE SEAT! 😂😂
Very low bike which is a great look but not a lot of leaning availability, the suspension is good but again, because it’s a low bike, it’s a little rougher ride than a bagger.
Mind me asking where you live? That area looks beautiful with the mountains in the background.
Utah county!
Bro, dont sell it. Its a beautiful bike, keep it for your commute. Im going to get one after watching this. Its delicious.
Nice mods! I am getting my first Rebel 500 too. You also mentioned modifying your rear fender to look more like a bobber style. Would you recommend replacing the tires with thicker ones like some off road look? I plan to mod my bike to look like that. What do you think?
That would be sick! Deleting the rear fender is a pretty “involved” modification. But after doing so, a bigger rear tire would look super good!
@@ItsJustJakeYT Right? and then if you want, you can drop down the handle bar some more to make it really look like a cafe racer. ;) Just my thoughts. Thanks again.
You'd have to check the clearances on the swingarm and brakes maybe. But the Swingarm might be the only limitation if you don't bottom out the rear shock.
how did you install those vans gummy grips?! I love those!
That finder delete looks insane, I want to get one now. Unfortunately my girl said if I get another bike she's leaving lol
Thanks for sharing this video, Jake.
Why the handle looks off though? Is it not aligned properly or its just me?
Good job and keep posting brother.
Just the gopro angle!👍🏼
Omg she sounds so good… that deep bumble is intoxicating.
I am looking for my first "motor cycle" scooter guy right now, it's all new to me at the ripe ole' age of 58.
If you're asking yourself if you regret it - you regret it.
... deeply !
How can u see with mirrors like that... you gotta look down instead from side to side
🤷🏻♂️
Could you do a video on motorcycle gear/accessories? I'm curious what's gloves you're using in this video.
Bro where you from, that Mountain View is amazing?
Regarding the HF stand you mentioned. Is it the HaulMaster 1,000 lb stand and did you use it with stock pipe before swapping out??
www.harborfreight.com/motorcycle-swingarm-rear-stand-65620.html I had swapped the exhaust out before buying the stand. But I am pretty positive that it would not work with the stock exhaust from what I’ve heard
K lol so you have the GP shorty slip on...did you have to adjust anything? Price?
Your voice sounded really familiar, then I scrolled through your channel and realized who you were, I used to watch your edc videos, when they were on your channel
Right on!🤘🏼
this headligth fairing is pretty nice, its oem?
Yep comes factory on the SE model👍🏼
Last year I traded in my zx6r for a 2021 Kawasaki Vulcan S ABS and I’m still amazed how fun the bike is to ride. I don’t care about speed and I’m not trying to pay a fortune for insurance so I think the low cc bikes are perfect.
It depends on how you see it. In America (or the US specifically) people see these bikes (the rebel and Vulcan) as low cc bikes, but in almost any other part of the world they are considered mid-big bikes because everybody rides 125cc to 250cc bikes as commuter bikes or as weekend bikes
Loving the terrazzo-looking epoxy floor coating…
I haven’t thought about having a bike for 30 some years, since I sold my 78 Suzuki GS 850. I happened on a random video about someone making a cafe racer out of one, which was really cool, now all of a sudden I’m feeling the itch to get a bike again. I’m really intrigued by these Rebels. I’m not interested in a super fast sport bike or a huge, heavy Harley, and one of these seems like a fun lightweight ride. I don’t need or want a powerhouse.
whered you get those hand grips? dig the vans style
Amazon! Vans Cult 1”
very cool bike, is it easy to ride? is it heavy? thanks for the video
I have a 21 rebel 500 abs and I love it. Sadly I can't go over 660cc as the nz government won't allow it but that doesn't bother me. Plan to keep my bike for awhile
I think hearing 500cc is pretty deceiving. These bikes got some guts!
Dam between new Zealand and Australia ...you guys need to stop riding and start fighting ...sounds like tyranny over there
@@erikdexter806 Australia and NZ have always had too many rules, and it's only getting worse.
Where did u get the hand grips and Mirror looks so cool
Vans Cult 1” grips, Mr.Lucky’s mirrors👍🏼
hole winter issue could be help by using heated grips on the bike and maybe install a heated seat
some of those breakin in period things are complete myths, you basically shave material off the inside of the engine block, that is the break in period, to get a perfect seal between the engine block and the pistons, if you go for a long ride on the freeride it's bad because of the constant heat in the new engine, if you don't ride that long it's fine, you shouldn't rev it like crazy but at the same time you should definitely not only drive in mid rpm like some people claim, that bike isn't only gonna be moved in the mid rpm so it wouldn't do it any service while breaking in
I've just got mine today and it's a Great little bike 😊❤
What city are you driving in? It looks sweet!
Another thing about Hondas they say they have break in periods but they in fact do not my cousin left break in oil in his 250 recon for about a year before he changed it stills runs after like 2 years
New to the channel and instantly recognized those mountains!
Nothin gets more scenic than Utah!
@@ItsJustJakeYT I rode the north Ogden divide on my sporty today. Was a good day to be out!
@@BleuxXwaffle its getting so close to snow😩
I know😑 we need it... but I hope it all stays in the mountains
It’s awesome that men are comfortable enough with their masculinity to ride women’s bikes. It really shows how far we’ve come as a species. 👍
Thanks for your patriotism 🫡
You need a brown leather saddle to match the grips! Love the grips, but do a little color complimenting haha. Great review!
I’ve thought about getting the brown seat! Would look way dope!
its a nice looking bike but i hated driving it because i found that it lacks power on the highway and its not confortable. the suspension is so hard you feel everybump but the worst thing for me was the engine/transmission offset on the right peg, makes my leg and feet unconfortable after a while. Anyway I just bought my 1200C harley sportsters and now Im happy :D
Sorry to hear about the downgrade, buddy.
Just stumbled across this video but you drove past my old house! Kinda cool
Nice ride and bike ! What is this exhaust ? sound great ! 🤩
I'm riding a CFMOTO Papio at the moment. Do you think going from a 125 to a 500 will be fine?
I have a Harley Nightster. And a complicated relationship with it.
I think this rebel is a better choice between the two. Especially on price.
I essentially payed the price of a car for Honda with a Harley Nameplate.
It’s cool, I just can’t get over how it sounds like my Honda foreman.
So I'm looking to get my first bike and I'm trying to decide between the 300 and 500. Is there much of a difference in how difficult they are to ride?

Yamaha Tracer 9GT (Yes so much faster and louder)
Yamaha Tricity 300 (Perfect every day)
Q: What did you do to your exhaust...sounds good:)
I’m looking to get my license and will in the spring. As a first time driver who has never driven a bike what do you recommend I should go into, something that’s not to expensive. I’m 6’ 1” 260lbs
I would look into the rebel 1100! Alot more power than the 500 but you havs the option for slower drive modes and have alot more room to grow into it!
not sure the price of the bike, does the math really work out, buying new, mpg, mods, so save money/mileage? or is it acceptable and you get the fun of a bike...
Just went to the dealership to sit on one. I'm 6'2 and didn't really find it weird. Anyone else have this issue?
Unfortunately is good for a person that is 1.75 meters tall, not for a tall person
So you drive a Rebel but you are a rambler... 😜
Very nice bike. I want one so thanks for the video. I also want grips in orange. I saw Burch having those and also have an orange tankcover. Makes the bike a bit 'punk rock easy to grab when ever' bike... hahaha... The new refresh of the bike looks like a transformer... Am I the only one who sees that... 🙂
