I love how whimsical and wholesome this movie is. There's a tendency these days to be critical of anything that feels "unrealistic," or even too optimistic. This movie could give a hoot about realism - the villains are cartoonish, the plot is an absurd, magical ride. Chalamet's portrayal of Wonka gives hints of the manic magic of Gene Wilder's version, in a Wonka who hasn't yet been disillusioned by the world.

  • @nicolasbaron4506

Timothee Chalamet was a great Willy Wonka! He manages to provide his own interpretation of the character that withstands comparisons to Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp, and his spirited performance is arguably one of the film's biggest strengths. Also helps that he's surrounded by a talented supporting cast that adds to the experience as well, including Hugh Grant stealing his handful of scenes as an Oompa Loompa.

While not exactly connected to the first film, this one does act as a spiritual prequel, even the coin Wonka drops in the sewers might be the one Charlie found that he bought the golden ticket with.

0:29, I liked the Wilder version a lot better than the Depp version since (even though it had some deviations like the Slugworth plot) it was still a straightforward adaptation of the book by Roald Dahl. While the Depp movie began by setting itself up to be a closer to the text adaptation but then sacrificed that to an origin story/deconstruction of Willy Wonka that doesn’t work in a truer to the text adaptation.

On Wonka, we went to the cinema before Christmas, we were enchanted and our little daughter too. Only two songs stuck in my memory, they weren't very catchy. Now my daughter has seen the movie about twice at home and I already like all the songs, they are very catchy for me. The actors are great and Paul King is already becoming synonymous with a great family movie for me. I hope there will be a second volume that will show how Wonka became the Willy Wonka we know from Dahl's books.

Naming Noodle's mom Dorothy feels like a lovely tribute to Wizard of Oz, for some reason. I don't know where I got that idea. The sharing of the chocolate definitely reminded me of Freddie Highmore's Charlie.

  • @Sam-fp2qh
    @Sam-fp2qh 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

I can't watch anything without adding my own little additional character/storyline.
For Wonka, it's a girl (about Noodle's age, but more like Willie in that she's happy and optimistic), who shows up in all of Willie's daydreams, and dances beside him in all the musical numbers. In the final scene, when Willie is sitting on the steps of the cathedral, she asks him if he's waiting for someone, and when he says yes, the girl asks to wait with him. (In the flashback scene when Willie's mom pinky promised him that "I'll be right there beside you," she actually says, "We'll be right there beside you," as she holds her stomach. And when Noodle asks Willie about his mom's secret, and Willie said he never found out, he says, "She passed before she could tell me. And she took my baby sister, too. I wanted to meet her more than anything.") Then the "mystery girl" suddenly shouts, "MAMA!" She races to hug her mom and it takes Willie a second to see that it's his mom the girl ran to. They both wave and blow kisses at him and he smiles at them with tears in his eyes. As he blinks the tears away, they both disappear.
And at the end, when Noodle is reuniting with her mom and Willie sings pure imagination, it's intercut with shots of his mom and sister hugging and smiling and being happy and he cries remembering that he never got to know his little sister or watch her grow up, but smiles knowing that he got to feel that connection with Noodle, and he got to see his mom and sister one last time.
(Also, throughout the movie, Willie talks about how he dissapointed his mom wasn't there, but he realises in the end that his sister was always there.)
    (How many of you cried?)
    ❤💔🥹😭🍫

That had only ever been the Wilder version also the contract thing was an Easter egg to what this Wonka would later do in the Golden Ticket contest. The contract was never in the book also Timothée Chalemet looks like the young version of the Wilder Willy Wonka

I saw this in theaters with my mom and younger brother, and we all enjoyed it. My brother jumped when my mom asked something because he was focused on the film. I kept thinking how it would work as a stage musical. Also, there's an Oompa Loompa song, at the beginning of the credits, that forced the audience to sit back down and see what happened to the rest of the characters. It was pretty funny. In conclusion, this film was a warm, rich hug that needs to be rewatched again and again.

Not gonna lie, I was a bit put off by the fact it was a musical. The trailers didn't really give me that impression, but it was a pleasant and welcome surprise when I saw it in the theater for the first time.
I especially loved Rowan Atkinsons part in this, and I can visualize Zazu getting chased by a giraffe like his character did.
    Zazu: "Sire..."
    Mufasa: "Yes, Zazu?"
Zazu: "Never hunt giraffes again. EVER."
4:14 Mrs. Scrubbit and her husband/business partner, even though they're implied to be the Twits, remind me of the Thernadier's from Lés Miserables. They instantly gave off that vibe with Noodle. Like, cmon, she's clearly Cosette!
The comedian who works in the laundry reminded me of Fozzie Bear, what with the curly hair and the bow tie and all...I bet he'd make a killing fooling Statler and Waldorf in The Muppet Show!
28:26 One thing I liked about this movie is that Wonka IMMEDIATELY suspects Slugworth and his crew of tampering with the chocolate. In any other movie, hed be on a wild goose chase trying to figure out the culprit(s) further padding the runtime. Glad hes smart here.

For he IS the Chocolate Haderach!
I really enjoyed this movie. I do like this as the backstory for the Wilder Wonka, but I can also see this as its own separate story too. Timothee Chalamet was really good as a naive and wide eyed Wonka and I really enjoy the type of Wonka who loves and gets along with children rather than the weird one from the "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory"version.
The songs in this were great and I teared up when "Pure Imagination"came back.

i really really would like to see Timothee Chalamet in an adaptation of the actualy book, dont get me wrong i love Gene Wilder, (dont like Depps (mainly because i didnt like Depps version of Wonka)) but i think a modern telling of the book with Timothee Timothee Chalamet would be great

Tbh I really hoped that they brought a cameo of Gene Wilder in the end, but sadly no. At least to me movie is a tribute to our first Willy Wonka.

Plus, you should think about doing the other Willy Wonka video or Charlie and the chocolate factory because I don’t think you did one of those videos or you did you just don’t remember but that’s totally OK and maybe you should think about taking some of my ideas for your next movie to watch just for the fun of it though plus I really like your videos as well

Can you please check out "The Adventures of Tintin"? With people like Peter Jackson, Spielberg, John Williams, Jamie Bell, Andy Serkis, and Daniel Craig in a true Herge comic adaptation, I'm surprised that there are only 2-3 reactions to it on TH-cam. BTW, I really enjoyed your video. Keep up the amazing work.

Timothee Chameleon can act! As he's doing right here in this movie! It doesn't feel real, it feels like he's acting, and he's acting. He didn't become Willy Wonka like Gene Wilder or Johnny Depp, he just acted Willy Wonka. Prefer the Gene Wilder version!
