“It’s not the chocolate that matters, it’s the people you share it with,” sort of encapsulates how I feel about watching reactors on TH-cam! The movies I love are made so much better every time I see another human appreciate them like I did the first time I saw them. Thanks for sharing your time and your tears with us- you’ve got a great sense of humor and a good heart. Keep these reactions coming please!
I never thought about it like that. I used to hate or really just not understand the idea of the channels but now my for you is pretty much only reactions- this exact comment is why.
Man, I saw this in the theater, and when he started singing Pure Imagination, the whole theater was singing along. Easily second only to Gene Wilder himself.
I'm not a huge Chalamet fan, but I feel like he did really well in this film. At the end when he started singing Pure Imagination my heart melted and I cried.
"I wonder how Wonka met the oompa loompas in the book?" Basically as depicted in the Johnny Depp version, Wonka met them while he traveled the world, offered them safety from the wild animals of their homeland, offered cocoa beans as payment (since that's what they desire) for working in the factory
I saw this for the first time with a friend of mine. She insisted it was good but of course i was just like "yea yea whatever". In truth, i was in a very dark place in my life because i had recently found to have a chemical imbalance problem which was affecting evety aspect of my life (and also precluded me from eating sweets so i was in hell). I was so depressed but one evening she just pestered me to come see it with her, she knew how much i loved musicals so eventually i just went fine. But i gotta tell u, not only was this movie amazing but it was exactly what i needed to lift my spirits overall. Its been a long time since a movie has made me feel that way and at this point in my life, i could not be more grateful❤❤❤
Same, depression from inbalance is hell and this movie lifted my mood for a short while too, I saw it in theaters 3× as this refuge Ps you have a good friend, hold on to them
I felt so vindicated when people who were preemptively hating on this movie (before it even came out) ended up loving it after actually watching the movie. Paul King is a master at making films like this. The minute I knew he was involved I knew it was going to be good. The Paddington films were the same way - I don't think anyone predicted they were going to be THAT good but they are, especially the 2nd one. They're honestly worth reacting to imo
I feel the same way. Everyone hating on it but I knew Paul King would do it justice. I also knew Timothee Chalamet was a triple threat who can not only act, but also sing and dance too. Not everyone really knew that before Wonka, so they didn't have the context to understand how good he could be in this type of role. So I also feel vindicated for everyone who said I was nuts to think this was going to be a great film.
Loved this film. The last 5 to 3 minutes had me bawling like a baby. The minute Timotheè Chalmet sung Pure Imagination and the girl reunited with her mom I was 😭 .
The song for bribing the officer (chawclate) had me in stitches. I really loved the ending for this. It's grown on me enough that I'm pretty sure it's now my favorite of the three.
I'm excited you finally watching this one..its one of my absolute favorites..at the end when he finally slowly starts to sing that first part of the Gene Wilder's song "Come with me ..." ..ugh I broke down in tears..the nostalgia of it all!.. I felt Gene all in that song.. btw if you don't mind I'd like to recommend you to watch 'Selena' please.. and or "Dead Silence" ..Thank you, I love your reactions Mell !🥰
Movie Fact: If you pay attention to the score you can hear the next song play in the background before the actors sing it. Also when you see the officer visits the vault you can hear the monks humming the Sweet Tooth song.
Bro! I've been secretly watching you for a while. You were actually one of the first reactors I started following. This was a good one. You had me crying with you. You're not afraid to be vulnerable and that's awesome. Keep them coming bud.
As a fan of the original film, I was a little hesitant to watch this so I waited until it was streamable. That was a mistake. I should’ve watched it in the theaters. Everyone did a spectacular job & it made me a fan of Timothée Chalamet. I also cried my eyes out at the end. One thing that upset me about the movie isn’t the movie, it’s the marketing FOR the movie. They should’ve said it was a musical. Also, at the theaters, they should’ve been offering Wonka Chocolate because those candy bars were my absolute favorite. They used to sell them at Toys-R-Us & I would visit there all the time just to get those candies. Also-also, they should’ve sold little Oompa Loompas of Hugh Grant. Like little Blind Bags of him, keychains, little statues, etc. The marketing really dropped the ball on this 🍫
This movie has been one of the best movies/shows I’ve seen in the last 5 years tbh. It was so good. It was majestic and beautiful. I’m not sure if this movie is the origin story of Wilder’s Wonka but if it is I rather it be its own thing cuz he’s extremely kind in this and then pretty cruel in Wilder’s Wonka.
This film was such a pleasant surprise. I didn't expect much out of it, but then I loved it. Wholesome, charming, optimistic, clean, family-friendly, magical. It just felt so good. I absolutely love this film.
1:08 A bit, but he's fun. And it's not his fault if people dont' listen to his warnings and just start grabbing at stuff without worrying about precautions
While Abigail the giraffe IS CGI, she’s completely modelled on London Zoo’s Molly (Molly’s never had a calf though, so you won’t get any milk from her, however nicely you ask!)
Yes! Finally a reaction where someone says that was the everlasting gobstopper lol. I always said it was because the original gobstoppers are colourful and you can see in this no chocolate actually goes into that machine.
Five people helped wonka, and one girl had everything she wanted. 5 kids will be lucky to see Wonka's factory. And 1 last kid will get what he can want too. Allow that to stay.
I will always love Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and Gene Wilder’s performance in that movie but I absolutely love this movie and it works perfectly as an origin story for a character as eccentric as Willy Wonka.
hot take but I kinda like how they hinted how crazy wonka might be, just with the choclate, getting mad people have never had it, daydreaming, and, getting ideas from the stuff he saw. also noticed the branding sign right next to wonka at the sharing chocalte scene . I kinda like this verison more becuase, it shows how you can reach your dreams through diffrent hardships togther, after being stuck for a long time and, after that you got your dream. I feel like not many movies now a days have these messages not sure why.
The scene with Wonka and Noodle with the balloons was my favorite part because of how visually stunning that scene was. My favorite song is A World of Your Own. I went to see the movie when it first came out. I was downloading the soundtrack as I walked out of the theater. It was all I listened to for a couple of days.
My biggest regret with this movie is that I didn’t watch it in theaters cause I was drawn in when I streamed it on MAX, but funnily enough that was the first video I was searched for of yours 2/3 months ago bc I had just watched your collab with BillyBinges doing Ted! I’m glad it’s here AND I got to discover all your videos in the meantime !!!!
You wanna know the coolest thing about him losing that last sovereign? It’s the fact that he actually did break the record and we were stunned beyond belief! Never give up on your dream it’s just not worth it!
Thank you for being vulnerable in your reaction, it was a preacious moment. Couple of fun facts: the scene for a world of our own is actually made by real chocolate (I don't remember if all of the room or maybe only the tree, but I heard this a while ago and there's a bit of an interview with the chocolatier that made it), the "good day sir" of the oompa loompa after he hit Willy with the pan it's a reference to the Gene Wilder same line said to Charlie's grampa when he asked for the life supplies chocolate , the chocolate in which Willy and Noodle should've died was actually real chocolate and the scene where Willy is singing with the old man "a world of our own" going one step foward and one step back it's another reference to Gene's Wonka going up and down the first time he's showing the kids the room with all the chocolate.
I wasn’t much of a fan of Timotheé’s until I saw this. He and the little girl who played Noodle are so fantastic. And Olivia Coleman is great in everything she’s in.
ONE OF THE BEST REACTIONS EVER AND ESPECIALLY IN THE END. 😢😅 THE WATER WORKS BRUH 😎 KEEP UP THE GREAT REACTIONS MY FRIEND. 💯 YOUR CRYING MADE ME CRY TOO LOL
28:08 yep, "Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory The Musical". I recommend it, the West End version, the Broadway version and the most recent UK tour. It's a real fun watch and very probably the darkest adaptation of the original story.
I was an emotional WRECK in the theater. I rank the original as #1, of course, but this is #2 for me. Depp rounds out a *perfect* trilogy at #3. There's no better story told to children than the tale of Willy Wonka and his chocolate factory. So magical and inspiring 🥹😩💛 even to us jaded adults.
Watched this with my family. We were all surprised about how good & funny it was. Found myself tearing up at times. My mom kept arguing with me that Wonka went to Hogwarts because he could do magic tricks 😂😂
This movie truly surprised me, but I'm mad they didn’t bring the Wonka Bars back to promote this... Wonka bars were Delicious!!! 🍫 But Cannabis Dispensaries should also give their change in spendable or edible options.
@@TheMarvelousM looks like we didn't get the same wonka bars here in Australia, or at least not around the 2000 mark when the mud sludge bars were a thing.
@myopinion69420 I'm in the States, we had wonka bars that had bits of Graham Cracker in it. Eventually they stopped and I've never been able to get over it
I also agree about Johnny Depp version. It was dark, fun, and had catchy music. My sons grew up on that one. This one blew all of us away 😮 perfect cast, music, and timing. You really felt like you were on a journey in a happy place!
Yes they did make a broadway show Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and it’s a great show. I felt the added some nice stuff from both movies, but added so new stuff to make unique to the show. It’s a great show to see if you get a chance. I’m hoping they tour it nationally again because I’d love a chance to see it again
I clicked this so fast seeing this! I loved this movie. It turned out so well in my opinion. I feel like it connected well with the original movie well - and that is my favorite version (with Gene Wilder). I was impartial to the Depp version - I know it is more accurate to the book and it’s good in it’s own way but I grew up with the original so has that Nostalgia I can’t overlook lol. This was my first movie I saw of Timothy’s so I defiantly became a fan of his because I think he did so good.
Go watch Dune 2 right after this, since after he filmed this movie, he went straight to shoot Dune 2. This is also a good follow up to see how good his acting is!
26:25 either way they were gonna get backlash for it because movie studios get backlash when they cast dwarfs as like elfs, or the 7 dwarfs from snowwhite but then they also get backlash for casting someone tall in the role so they cant win really, either way theres going to be some idiot that isnt happy about it
I find this movie to be similar to Cruella in the sense that it’s like the origin story to an alternate universe version of the character we know. I can’t imagine Emma Stones Cruella trying to kill dogs, and I can’t imagine Timothee’s Wonka trying to punish children. I think both movies work, they are definitely both fun!!!
U need to see his other works but let me just tell u, his acting range is crazy. 1. Little Women 2. Bones and All 3. Beautiful Boy 4. The King 5. Lady Bird 6. Don’t Look Up 7. Call me by your name
This was loads of fun to watch. I enjoyed it alot. @MelloVerse I would like to suggest Hell Comes To Frog town starring Rowdy Roddy Piper. He's got more one liners in this one and entertaining as Hell.
I wanted to hate this movie and came out loving it as much as the original. I was afraid they'd dumb it down and sanitize it from Dahl's dark humor but they instead added in classic Dahl tropes and kept the dark humor. I hope they make a sequel where he falls in love with a dentist played by Rachel Zegler who wants his chocolate banned in schools

This, exactly. I love getting the same feeling when they watch something and love it as I did watching it myself for the first time.
This is exactly it!!! It's like watching it together with a friend or showing someone a movie you really like :)
You said it so perfectly.
Exactly!
Man, I saw this in the theater, and when he started singing Pure Imagination, the whole theater was singing along. Easily second only to Gene Wilder himself.
Fr, I was shocked that people that watched this movie did not got sad. This movie shot me in the heart too😭

Basically as depicted in the Johnny Depp version, Wonka met them while he traveled the world, offered them safety from the wild animals of their homeland, offered cocoa beans as payment (since that's what they desire) for working in the factory
That’s the most book accurate version with the exception of the ending and backstory for him, from what I’ve seen
Bruh when you said “you can be my first Oompa Loompa little black girl” had me literally choke on a cookie
I saw this for the first time with a friend of mine. She insisted it was good but of course i was just like "yea yea whatever". That “come with me” song always hits hard in ur heart
it really surprised me how magical this movie was tbh
Agreed, that's the only word to describe this
as someone who couldn’t care less about this franchise i love this movie!!! we need more kids musicals with magic vibes like this!!!
"A world of your own" is definetely my favorite song. It just brings me alot of child-like joy back to me
The song for bribing the officer (chawclate) had me in stitches.

"Say.... would you like a chocolate covered pretzel, They’re a little melty, but damn are they delicious"

“Come…with…me….”
People actually GASPED!😮
It was a moment.

Actually a lot of the deliveries in this movie are really funny
Agreed
nahh bro same I was a wreck at that end, it's beautiful
