Wonka Movie Description:
Armed with nothing but a hatful of dreams, young chocolatier Willy Wonka manages to change the world, one delectable bite at a time.
Wonka is a 2023 musical fantasy comedy film directed by Paul King, who co-wrote the screenplay with Simon Farnaby based on a story by King. It tells the origin story of Willy Wonka, a central character in the 1964 novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl, depicting his early days as a chocolatier, and serves as a prequel to the first film based on Dahl's novel, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. The film stars Timothée Chalamet as the title character, with an ensemble cast including Calah Lane, Keegan-Michael Key, Paterson Joseph, Matt Lucas, Mathew Baynton, Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson, Jim Carter, Olivia Colman, and Hugh Grant.
Development began when Warner Bros. Pictures reacquired the rights to the character in October 2016 and announced that the film would be an origin story. The film tells an original story and was developed by King to exist as a "companion piece" to the 1971 film by reprising some of the music, thematic elements, and the visual design of the Oompa Loompas. In May 2021, Chalamet was confirmed to portray Wonka, and the supporting cast was announced in September of that year. Filming began in the United Kingdom in September, at Warner Bros. Studios, Leavesden, in Watford, as well as Oxford, Lyme Regis, Bath, St Albans, and at the Rivoli Ballroom in Crofton Park, London. The film's original songs were written by Neil Hannon, and its original score by Joby Talbot.
Wonka premiered in London at the Royal Festival Hall, Southbank Centre on November 28, 2023, and was released in the United Kingdom on December 8 and in the United States on December 15 by Warner Bros. Pictures. It received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised Chalamet's performance, the music and visual style, and was a commercial success, grossing $632 million worldwide against a $125 million budget, becoming the eighth highest-grossing film of 2023. It received a nomination for the BAFTA Award for Outstanding British Film, and Chalamet was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor - Motion Picture Musical or Comedy.

“It’s not the chocolate that matters, it’s the people you share it with,” sort of encapsulates how I feel about watching reactors on TH-cam! The movies I love are made so much better every time I see another human appreciate them like I did the first time I saw them. Thanks for sharing your time and your tears with us- you’ve got a great sense of humor and a good heart. Keep these reactions coming please!
I never thought about it like that. I used to hate or really just not understand the idea of the channels but now my for you is pretty much only reactions- this exact comment is why.
This, exactly. I love getting the same feeling when they watch something and love it as I did watching it myself for the first time.
This is exactly it!!! It's like watching it together with a friend or showing someone a movie you really like :)
You said it so perfectly.
Exactly!
Fr, I was shocked that people that watched this movie did not got sad. This movie shot me in the heart too😭
I don’t cry during movies but I was sad on the inside.
I was crying like a baby
Bruh when you said “you can be my first Oompa Loompa little black girl” had me literally choke on a cookie
I'm not a huge Chalamet fan, but I feel like he did really well in this film. At the end when he started singing Pure Imagination my heart melted and I cried.
Same😂
Ditto
"I wonder how Wonka met the oompa loompas in the book?" Basically as depicted in the Johnny Depp version, Wonka met them while he traveled the world, offered them safety from the wild animals of their homeland, offered cocoa beans as payment (since that's what they desire) for working in the factory
That’s the most book accurate version with the exception of the ending and backstory for him, from what I’ve seen
I felt so vindicated when people who were preemptively hating on this movie (before it even came out) ended up loving it after actually watching the movie. Paul King is a master at making films like this. The minute I knew he was involved I knew it was going to be good. The Paddington films were the same way - I don't think anyone predicted they were going to be THAT good but they are, especially the 2nd one. They're honestly worth reacting to imo
I saw this for the first time with a friend of mine. She insisted it was good but of course i was just like "yea yea whatever". In truth, i was in a very dark place in my life because i had recently found to have a chemical imbalance problem which was affecting evety aspect of my life (and also precluded me from eating sweets so i was in hell). I was so depressed but one evening she just pestered me to come see it with her, she knew how much i loved musicals so eventually i just went fine. But i gotta tell u, not only was this movie amazing but it was exactly what i needed to lift my spirits overall. Its been a long time since a movie has made me feel that way and at this point in my life, i could not be more grateful❤❤❤
Same, depression from inbalance is hell and this movie lifted my mood for a short while too, I saw it in theaters 3× as this refuge
Ps you have a good friend, hold on to them
Sometimes nothing is better than a wholesome fun family film that makes you cry buckets. ❤
Charlie Buckets 😂
it really surprised me how magical this movie was tbh
Agreed, that's the only word to describe this
as someone who couldn’t care less about this franchise i love this movie!!! we need more kids musicals with magic vibes like this!!!
The ending had me in TEARS omg!!! I'm glad we got a Wonka origin story! I loved it
Loved this film. The last 5 to 3 minutes had me bawling like a baby. The minute Timotheè Chalmet sung Pure Imagination and the girl reunited with her mom I was 😭 .
Man, I saw this in the theater, and when he started singing Pure Imagination, the whole theater was singing along. Easily second only to Gene Wilder himself.
I'm excited you finally watching this one..its one of my absolute favorites..at the end when he finally slowly starts to sing that first part of the Gene Wilder's song "Come with me ..." ..ugh I broke down in tears..the nostalgia of it all!.. I felt Gene all in that song.. btw if you don't mind I'd like to recommend you to watch 'Selena' please.. and or "Dead Silence" ..Thank you, I love your reactions Mell !🥰
The song for bribing the officer (chawclate) had me in stitches.
I really loved the ending for this. It's grown on me enough that I'm pretty sure it's now my favorite of the three.
KEEP YOUR WRETCHED CHOCOLATE
Movie Fact: If you pay attention to the score you can hear the next song play in the background before the actors sing it. Also when you see the officer visits the vault you can hear the monks humming the Sweet Tooth song.
I’m crying with you in the end, Mello.
I was pretty surprised with this take on Wonka. I enjoyed it more than I was expecting. Please watch Mallrats.
"Say.... would you like a chocolate covered pretzel, They’re a little melty, but damn are they delicious"
As a fan of the original film, I was a little hesitant to watch this so I waited until it was streamable. That was a mistake. I should’ve watched it in the theaters. Everyone did a spectacular job & it made me a fan of Timothée Chalamet. I also cried my eyes out at the end.
One thing that upset me about the movie isn’t the movie, it’s the marketing FOR the movie. They should’ve said it was a musical. Also, at the theaters, they should’ve been offering Wonka Chocolate because those candy bars were my absolute favorite. They used to sell them at Toys-R-Us & I would visit there all the time just to get those candies.
Also-also, they should’ve sold little Oompa Loompas of Hugh Grant. Like little Blind Bags of him, keychains, little statues, etc. The marketing really dropped the ball on this 🍫
Yeah I had no idea it was a musical too and it pisses me off they're doing the same no musical marketing for Wicked
Bro! I've been secretly watching you for a while. You were actually one of the first reactors I started following. This was a good one. You had me crying with you. You're not afraid to be vulnerable and that's awesome. Keep them coming bud.
That “come with me” song always hits hard in ur heart
I was an emotional WRECK in the theater. I rank the original as #1, of course, but this is #2 for me. Depp rounds out a *perfect* trilogy at #3. There's no better story told to children than the tale of Willy Wonka and his chocolate factory. So magical and inspiring 🥹😩💛 even to us jaded adults.
Yea this got me in my feels too
Yeah it ruined my mascara
I was pleasantly surprised with this movie. Loved the ending.
Yup, I had the exact same tearful reaction at the end.
The way Pure Imagination worked so well for Noodle’s story just broke me.
Love everything about this video.
The movie, the thumbnail, the reaction!
It was a real Treat!
Pun entirely intended!!
Loved this movie had no idea it was a musical!
You will absolutely love Paddington 1 and 2! They are very good wholesome films that are a lot of fun!
Bruh, had me crying… I’m now obsessed 😅with
I really wasn’t interested in seeing this movie. But I caught it one night on tv and I really liked it. And the ending…….chef’s kiss❤️❤️
43:01 I had tears in my eyes too.. from that sound you made Mellow! Lol
You have the best reactions! Love your sensitivity. You always have me crying. This movie was great!
The scene with Wonka and Noodle with the balloons was my favorite part because of how visually stunning that scene was. My favorite song is A World of Your Own. I went to see the movie when it first came out. I was downloading the soundtrack as I walked out of the theater. It was all I listened to for a couple of days.
This movie truly surprised me, but I'm mad they didn’t bring the Wonka Bars back to promote this... Wonka bars were Delicious!!! 🍫
But Cannabis Dispensaries should also give their change in spendable or edible options.
The mud sludge bars were SO GOOD
@@myopinion69420 I loved the og but also the chocolate waterfall exceptional bars.
@@TheMarvelousM looks like we didn't get the same wonka bars here in Australia, or at least not around the 2000 mark when the mud sludge bars were a thing.
@@myopinion69420 interesting
@myopinion69420 I'm in the States, we had wonka bars that had bits of Graham Cracker in it. Eventually they stopped and I've never been able to get over it
I wasn’t much of a fan of Timotheé’s until I saw this. He and the little girl who played Noodle are so fantastic. And Olivia Coleman is great in everything she’s in.
I will always love Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and Gene Wilder’s performance in that movie but I absolutely love this movie and it works perfectly as an origin story for a character as eccentric as Willy Wonka.
🤣😭😇 I'm fueled with joy that you enjoyed the movie as much as I did. 💪🏾
THE BELKO EXPERIMENT 😂😂😂
My biggest regret with this movie is that I didn’t watch it in theaters cause I was drawn in when I streamed it on MAX, but funnily enough that was the first video I was searched for of yours 2/3 months ago bc I had just watched your collab with BillyBinges doing Ted! I’m glad it’s here AND I got to discover all your videos in the meantime !!!!
ONE OF THE BEST REACTIONS EVER AND ESPECIALLY IN THE END. 😢😅 THE WATER WORKS BRUH 😎 KEEP UP THE GREAT REACTIONS MY FRIEND. 💯 YOUR CRYING MADE ME CRY TOO LOL
hot take but I kinda like how they hinted how crazy wonka might be, just with the choclate, getting mad people have never had it, daydreaming, and, getting ideas from the stuff he saw. also noticed the branding sign right next to wonka at the sharing chocalte scene . I kinda like this verison more becuase, it shows how you can reach your dreams through diffrent hardships togther, after being stuck for a long time and, after that you got your dream. I feel like not many movies now a days have these messages not sure why.
This movie is one of the best and beautiful films ❤️😭
I love WONKAAA 🤣🤣😭😭perfect timing I didn't know what to watch❤❤
8:00 LMAO that’s what i kept thinking. they’re is like 6 of us and 2 of them. WE FIGHT OR WE DIE TRYING 😭
Bruh, all those old school ad breaks have me dead. xDDDDDD
Thank you for being vulnerable in your reaction, it was a preacious moment. Couple of fun facts: the scene for a world of our own is actually made by real chocolate (I don't remember if all of the room or maybe only the tree, but I heard this a while ago and there's a bit of an interview with the chocolatier that made it), the "good day sir" of the oompa loompa after he hit Willy with the pan it's a reference to the Gene Wilder same line said to Charlie's grampa when he asked for the life supplies chocolate , the chocolate in which Willy and Noodle should've died was actually real chocolate and the scene where Willy is singing with the old man "a world of our own" going one step foward and one step back it's another reference to Gene's Wonka going up and down the first time he's showing the kids the room with all the chocolate.
I loved Wonka and I cried too :)
Man, I'm crying too!
Thanks for your reaction
U need to see his other works but let me just tell u, his acting range is crazy.
1. Little Women
2. Bones and All
3. Beautiful Boy
4. The King
5. Lady Bird
6. Don’t Look Up
7. Call me by your name
Fun fact: The Security Guard for the Zoo is Simon Farnaby who is one of the writers of this film.
The amount of time I’ve rewatched this movie??!! It’s sooo good
Awesome reaction of my favorite Willy Wonka movie!!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊
44:20 bro cry I never seen you cry wow.
U gotta watch high most popular vids.
Go watch Dune 2 right after this, since after he filmed this movie, he went straight to shoot Dune 2. This is also a good follow up to see how good his acting is!
YESSSS BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE THANK YOU!! ♥️ love you dawg been a huge fan for a while
The movies that makes you cry and smile are the best movies you can watch
9:27 this delivery absolutely slayed me. 😂
Actually a lot of the deliveries in this movie are really funny
Agreed
I'm right there crying with you, my guy...
i loved this movie when it came out definitely one of my favorites of 2023
I loved your appreciation for this movie
28:20 great song and wow for the 29:34
This movie is so damn powerful I'm surprised that Charlie didn't make a cameo appearance or maybe he wasn't born in that time period
He def wasn't born yet. Grandpa Joe was probably taking care of his mom at this point.
WTF where the hell do you get these clips from bro😂
1:41 accurate😅
It's because of this movie that I'm now a fan of Timothé Chalamet 😄💕🎶🎥
This movie has been one of the best movies/shows I’ve seen in the last 5 years tbh. It was so good. It was majestic and beautiful. I’m not sure if this movie is the origin story of Wilder’s Wonka but if it is I rather it be its own thing cuz he’s extremely kind in this and then pretty cruel in Wilder’s Wonka.
I really loved this movie the messages in it were very meaningful
The editing is amazing 😄
I liked it this movie so much. I saw it twice in the theaters and it caught me off guard as well!
They really captured the Roald Dahl vibe with this too, I feel like he would have enjoyed it.
26:25 either way they were gonna get backlash for it because movie studios get backlash when they cast dwarfs as like elfs, or the 7 dwarfs from snowwhite but then they also get backlash for casting someone tall in the role so they cant win really, either way theres going to be some idiot that isnt happy about it
This movie took me by surprise. I really liked it too.
I clicked this so fast seeing this!
I loved this movie. It turned out so well in my opinion. I feel like it connected well with the original movie well - and that is my favorite version (with Gene Wilder). I was impartial to the Depp version - I know it is more accurate to the book and it’s good in it’s own way but I grew up with the original so has that Nostalgia I can’t overlook lol.
This was my first movie I saw of Timothy’s so I defiantly became a fan of his because I think he did so good.
Yay this is so good ❤
Theres they guy in france that makes everything in chocolate. He’s real life wonka he’s everywhere on social media
The editing Killed me 😂😂😂😭👏🏽
They catfished us in that trailer. No songs were in it at all. And I'm not even mad, the soundtrack is good. XD
I would love to see him react to “treasure planet”
The chocolate must flow!
I loved the whole movie soundtrack, but i think mý favorite would have to be "for a moment" (the one they sang at the zoo, im not sire of the actual title but i assume its that)
11:03 ummmmm..... well..
Just a beautiful, funny movie. Mannnn
Yes they did make a broadway show Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and it’s a great show. I felt the added some nice stuff from both movies, but added so new stuff to make unique to the show. It’s a great show to see if you get a chance. I’m hoping they tour it nationally again because I’d love a chance to see it again
i was expecting the movie too be weird but it was great ❤
This was loads of fun to watch. I enjoyed it alot. @MelloVerse I would like to suggest Hell Comes To Frog town starring Rowdy Roddy Piper. He's got more one liners in this one and entertaining as Hell.
It gave me that same magical vibe I had when watching the original Harry Potter for the first time. Wholesome escapism..
IM NOT GONNA LIE WONKA WASENT THAT BAD 😊
Nice to see matt lucas and a couple of the OG horrible histories crew getting more work
My favourite song is definitely you’ve never had chocolate like this
I love the original! It's one of my favorites. Gene Wilder is absolutely incredible but I have to say I really really enjoyed this movie. I think they did a good job with it.
A Dune musical would go crazy
Especially if Toto & Hans Zimmer worked together on it.
Broadway does not have the budget for that haha
@juliannehannes11 if they can pull off Lion King, they could PROBABLY pull off Vellinue's Part 1.
PLEASE REACT TO "SPIRIT: STALLION OF THE CIMARRON"! It's a story about a strong, beautiful horse with a spirit that can never be broken. I cry every time I watch it! It's a INCREDIBLE film, and the songs are so cool! But it's not a musical and the animals can't talk. 😭💔🔥
OMG YES HE SHOULD😭
I loved this movie.
As I've loved the other ones to. Even the johnny Depp one( cause I live for his sassyness and I love Johnny Depp
He's hilarious)
But I think they are all good as their own separate Wonka's
This movie got a lot of hate before it even came out but it’s really good it deserves more views for sure
I feel guilty for hating Chalamet's casting of Wonka, I was wrong.
Don't worry about this film though, it was a global hit that made a good profit
Tim Tim was also in Interstellar but that too wasn't much & felt kinda one noted.
If you like Tim in this, you'll love him in: The King, Call Me By Your Name, Beautiful Boy, Dune 2. Watch these. You will become a fan.
i loved this movie. i thought chalmet was amazing
i balled in the theater watching this movie, its was great
I saw this on HBO with some cousins, and I think I liked it the most. Granted the rest of the group were very drunk... Thankfully they did not drink in excess to the point of an accident.
"In which they DIED."
Wow
43:02😂
