Great explanation! Subscribed! I am trying to come for a PhD next Fall. I come from a non-tech background but my PhD will be in tech. Hopefully you bring on some people in the same boat.
Hi! I’m an undergrad in the US graduating this spring with no internship experience, I just have some projects on my resume. Could you please make a video on strategies for getting a job with a project-focused resume? I’d love to hear your advice for students like me looking to break into the industry. Thanks so much for all your helpful content!
Overall, I agree with your points, but one area where I disagree is the idea that a person can receive 50 callbacks out of 1,000 applications. The hiring rate, even before this economic downturn, wasn't very good, especially for international students; it was around 15-20 out of 1,000. Luck plays a significant role, but undermining a person with almost double the callback rate isn't a smart move, based on the example you provided (the person with 5 callbacks). It also depends on the companies from which you are receiving the callbacks. You seem to assume that nearly every resume showcases the same level of competency and that luck is the major determining factor in hiring decisions. I have seen even freshers with much more impactful resumes and projects than some experienced candidates. I would say the ratio of factors influencing hiring would be around 50% luck, 25% networking, and 25% skills, such as behavioral interviewing and data structures and algorithms (DSA).
Bro I'm a prospective Data science student with 3 years of experience currently, aiming for fall 2025. Can you make a video shedding light on that field as well explaining job market and internship opportunities? BTW awesome video and you deserve Yudi level of recognition ❤
If 1 lakh 30k F1 visas, and 30k are bachelors, 30k will be PhD students. In fact majority of Bengalis are PhD students in India especially in the Natural Sciences and Humanities. That leaves 70k Masters and ~50k CS/ITM etc.
I did a podcast on his channel - th-cam.com/video/7c5bPlKF5tU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=rZvUe2WZcm8jpsnp I'll have him on my channel soon to talk about Data Engineering
The gist is it all boil downs to the number of applications you do and there is a significant factor which aces all of the prep which is luck in this job market also he mentioned on how the resume should be curated the points being use action words, if you are putting impact metrics then it should make some sense and as always practice some DSA on Leetcode atleast get the 150 top interview questions list checked out and at last be patient because in the end it is a numbers game so if you don't get anything do not blame yourself but be patient and wait for that one opportunity and once you get that make sure that you do everything in your control to convert it (last one I added 😊).All the best to everybody we are in this together.
Thank you for taking the time and doing this video. It helps for students like me coming to us next year. If you had known the luck plays as much as 95% in securing an internship before coming to the US, would you have still gone there?
My favourite Bengali back at it 🎉 Yeah buddy!
Even though I am not a techie, you made a lot of sense for MBA s too.
Good insights bro!
Thanks for the info brother. I give up my US Curiosity (not dream, I love India).

Bro, thanks for being objective. I think before coming to us we should train our luck by going to goa. All other things will fall in place.
Hahaha! Fair!

Short answer: I'd personally come, yes. [Might have to address the long answer in a separate video]
