Just to let you guys know, the stupid easy course - "CSE 543: Info Assurance & Security(by prof Yau)", is kinda tricky in terms of exams rn. The midterm is no longer open book, let alone open for Chat-GPT. The only thing that we're allowed to bring to the exam now is four cheatsheets. So make sure to select CSE 543 taught by another prof.

Hi Abir, I am currently pursuing my BTech, 4th year, in Computer Science. I am considering going for a master's degree, but I am confused about whether I should pursue it or not. Based on my campus placement prospects, I expect to secure a job with a salary of around 4-6 LPA. I’m seeking advice on whether gaining work experience first really matters. Should I take the risk and pursue a master's degree in the US? Personally, I’ve always wanted to live in the US since childhood-not just for financial reasons, but to explore myself, experience a different lifestyle, and improve my ability to navigate life in the future. Our family’s net assets are around 1.5-2 crore, and I would need to take out a loan for my studies. Middle class doesnt pay over 30lacs on tution fees and with part time and stuff a talented skillfull graduate can survive and grab a decent job post masters and even with 50-60k$ package he'd still be able to save double than india.

I probably fall in the change of pace group, i wanted to know your thoughts on the opportunity cost. So, suppose you get your master's degree, even get a job and work for 3 years. I would say in an average case you might end up just paying back the loan and ultimately one will where they started. However, in the best case with RA/TA, scholarship and internship one might pay back majority of the loan during the course itself. So, how does one do justice to the fact that we might end up where we started, effectively destroying the original purpose. Should we got for masters in other countries then? may be since USA is a thing of past, the future cosmopolitan, and culturally diverse and so to say free country might just be some other nation

Abir Bhattacharjee is there, at ASU for the industrial experience. He’s not there for the academic research (PhD, Thesis based MS, Masters by Research (MSR)). He’s at ASU to get paid and make some money. He’s taking the easiest courses to float & cruise by & he’s there to land that top job (6 figures minimum; industrialist).

You missed one point. If your interntion to come to the US is a potential immigration. Then don’t worry even think about coming to the US.
