Hey Mr. Ammo man. Have you ever considered making another series of follow up videos? These cars are being cleaned up and given a second chance. I'd like to see what happens with them after the fact. Thankyou
@@Frank-Thoresen It sometimes takes months to get these cars rolling. And he's a busy man as we can see. I understand why you'd only focus on what you do. Also, Frank, you're getting all this quality content for free. Don't spread negative vibes around please.
Larry's face is like a child while the old man is like, "just another day on the job" while never noticing Larry's face light up when the engine turns over.
I am very happy after watching old cars getting detailed and getting a new good home. Its like a therapy for the soul. Larry thank you for this awesome videos. I am also very interested in detailing and i hope i can do it as good as you do. Just bought some equipment and i will start to work with it next week. Greetings and best wishes from Germany to NYC ✌🏽❤️
I owned two of these - a 2002 Touring and a 1602. Both brilliant cars and easy to work on. I miss them very much and thank you for your reviving the memory!
To call a “73 2002 one of my “dream project car” doesn’t even begin to come close to how obsessive I’ve been with these for the past 7-8 years. They’re so hard to find for a decent price around my area, and just like everyone with classic cars these days, they all go off of what a pristine, 100% original, crazy low original miles, museum/concourse quality one sold for at a Barrett Jackson auction 🙄 one day I hope to get my hands on one and build a slammed and swapped little weekend ripper with my dad while I still have him here with me 🤞🏼 Beautiful resto detail as always man 🙌🏼stay awesome, and can’t wait to see what you have for us next
My dad had this exact car when I was a kid. Same color and everything! I remember I hated riding in that car because the smell of the leather made me carsick...lol
The mix of super-cars and barn finds puts is what makes your channel great. What makes it my favourite is when you add in the mechanical stuff. Great videos.
Ammonyc is that channel that is more like a university course in car cleaning and care. With Larry being an enthusiastic Professor who really loves what he does. I learn something every time I watch.
For some reason, I love this car more than any car I've seen you do! The patina on the car is just perfect! Since you've been saving these little projects you're mastering your haggling techniques...lol Nice job Larry!
I had one of these, from 1972, some years ago. I left it at my BMW dealer to be restored. After 8 month it was on the road. You can’t imagine how contemporary the driving is. Miss it but I got tired of having many old cars and not using them. I got say that love each and every video you create and I see it since you had only a few k subs. Regards from Portugal
So funny. The whole time I’m thinking “it’s not a ‘74 because it has round tail lights and the grill is slightly different”, then Axle comes in and says it lol. So fun to see you clean up an old 2002! Great work! I learned to drive on a ‘74 manual 2002 so it has a special place in my heart… plus it’s so fun to kick the tail out around a right turn (obviously when there’s no one on the road ;-) Hope you got some rest after this. Looks like it was draining.
@@kybruce1 I think you could get 5-6 for it. But, the body damage on certain panels kills it's value a ton. Especially the grill and front/rear panel. I mean, the grill alone is a $2k part.
I have been watching your videos for about a month now. This is by far one of the best sites I follow. Your knowledge of vehicles and the way to best clean them is so impressive! Keep up the excellent work!!
the rust and patina literally give it sooo much more character, even for a car that oozes character already!!! I couldn't do a restoration on this one. It's too cool the way it is now!!!
Hey Larry love the videos! Random question, I've been dying to know what the solution is for all the dirt and water that get washed under your lifts. Thanks
To install floor-incorporated lifts you need to have 2 water-drain holes, one under each side. This was a deal breaker for my shop and now I kinda regret it when I watch these awesome videos.
There's this satisfying factor on seeing these forgotten majestic machines that don't look perfect but lets you admire them. The paint and interior isn't perfect yet it exudes a vibe that is unique to old cars. Fun fact is Larry allows these machine to live and retell its tale again. Very therapeutic!
Love It! I had an identical BMW 2002ti back when I was stationed in Italy in 1989 and I was aboslutley in love. It was so clean and really well cared for by whomever the previous owners were. It ran and handled like nothing in its class even at almost 20 years old. Thank for the memory!
Love these cars. Question: has a customer ever just given you new carpets to install during the cleanup in an effort to minimize the time, effort and cost of shampooing, scrubbing, steam cleaning etc. of the old ones? Seems like sometimes the cost may be a wash (no pun intended) with, in some cases, better results.
On normal cars (much newer than this) it probably wouldn't be a wash. In general most detailers don't remove carpeting, the TH-camrs do because it makes a better video, and in some disaster details such as this it may make sense. But I would guess off the top of my head less than 1 in 1000 cars would make sense for carpet replacement over cleaning. Burn spots and bleaching and worn fabrics are more common than that I'm speaking to cleaning. Myself I just did a disaster mouse detail for my buddy, I turn customers with that kind of car away typically in general. And I didn't remove the seats, I did the back seat since that's almost always a pop-out type thing. But I got the carpets to 90% like new without removing the seats or carpeting. Extract, and ozone will cover 99.99% of cases.
That smooth edit of the steam leaving the driver's side door panel? Perfectly matched to the music! That brought a smile to my face. These videos you do shows the value of two things: perseverance and through that, experience. Most wouldn't see the possibility beneath the dirt and grime, not having that oh so valuable experience.
Been waiting for this video since the 2002 started popping up in the background. We have been trying to get my dad to start the restore process on my Grandfathers 2002 and been wanting to do an AMMONYC here’s what she could be. Dads fighting Cancer right now so no better time than the present. Thanks for the inspiration Larry! Question: did you address the “vinyl” headliner on this 2002? I was thinking lather and the steamer but didn’t know if you had a better solution?
My first project car was a 1975 2002. My high school shop teacher was an '02 junky and had an *M2" S14 swapped (E30 M3 Motor) into a 2002. It inspired me to get a 2002 and restore it. Sadly, I had to sell it towards the end of college. If there's 1 car I regret having to get rid of, it was that. The prices of them going up makes me happy but sad simultaneously. I really hope I'll be able to own one again in the future.
Just found your channel guys and as a British classic car nut I declare that it is awesome! These 2002's are gorgeous and becoming very sought after. Keep up the gr8 work.
Had a ‘72 battleship grey with that navy interior. Best car to work on and learn how an internal combustion engine works. Everything on that car is straightforward engineering solutions. Once those mechanical problems are fixed on that car it will be worth $15,000 for one reason, that spare tire well is not all rusted out.
I had an episode idea. You have a lot of knowledge about detailing Larry. I follow your channel, but have VERY LITTLE knowledge about cars and especially cleaning. My idea is to set this knowledge aside, and wash a car like a non- professional. A bucket, a sponge, some towels, some soapy water, and a hose. Also, I use Murphys Oil Soap to clean the cars. Regardless, I don't have special soaps. Another thing is that time is tight and there is no budget for car washing. What would you do?
Your videos are strangely addictive. Perfect for running in my office while I work on a big old paperwork project. Buying some of your products for my old Jag too.
A simple honest car with tons of character, professionally cleaned and made safe by a pro. Seems like the perfect starting point for somebody looking to have a special car in their life
Larry I love your videos really! One question though, after washing the car so thoroughly how much lighter does it get? Have you ever tested that? would you consider it in the future?
Funny how you mention checking the sprayer tip. Had one go flying a couple weeks ago and now I absolutely check it, lol. Luckily it didn't damage my car.
My boss got his wife a BMW 2002 he got for here as a wedding gift. That car is still mint got to drive it once. Nice little ride would love to find one for myself.
What stuff did you use on the chrome ? Just regular metal polish? And what can be done to rejuvenate paint that has the clear coat peeled in majority of the vehicle. ?
With a cheap car wax can cause rejuvenation ( like turtle wax 🐢) my < hood >paint fadded bad 10 years ago. Clay bar just made it worse / cloudy black =Grey = white patches I finally machine buffed it ( the hood) after years of hand polishing. 1st:h hand polish with a "cheese cloth fabric" to strip off old wax coat first, use a car cleaning compound Polishing Compund; by turtle wax 🐢 then, clean with soap and water. hand dry with Terry Cloth!!!! 2nd. Let wax dry ½ hour minimum. 2nd attempt / extra credit...use a machine buffer and wool pad to remove all, old clearcoat or" old paint" oxidation . Start over with wax / cleaning
I have been using pressure washer for years to clean carpets and the carpet mats for vehicles. On thing I learned over the years if you hang them up in the sun ☀️ or just hanging them up they will drip dry really well. Also a great tip if you like the “carpet lines” in your mats, while the carpets are still wet, use your stiff bristle brush to go in the opposite direction of the ways the carpet fibers lay and make your lines. As the carpets dry the lines will dry in really good and last a while longer…Just a tip that has worked for me… As always, enjoy your videos!! God Bless and stay safe🙏🙏
FYI, the BMW 2002 is a '73 model not a '74 that you mentioned. It has the round tail lights. In 1974, the rear lights aew square and grills are in black, Great fun video to watch! Thank you very much for making and sharing it!
A little tip - most BMW parts have a partial part number stamped on it. The obvious exceptions are very small parts such as washers and screws. If you need a replacement part, just make a note of the partial part number, which can then be cross referenced using the EPC.
Neat little old Bimmer. A Friend of mine has one of those in MINT Condition. He Pampers it Every Single Day. It looks Like a New Car, and his Cousin maintains it with Original BMW Parts. Great Job Larry. And it Ran......
I once drove the 2002ti with the square tail lights. The gearbox had to warm up in the cold first to make it shift smooth. You could smell the gearoil…ha. That thing was fast and fun to drive.!! I also remember seeing the first 323i on the highways in Europe. Thanks for posting this video.!!
I miss cars this simple. My first car was an Accord (78) and when the head developed a pinhole leak, I took the breakdown as the opportunity to freshen up the engine. New rings, new bearings throughout, used head from a newer year model (there were a couple of design fixes I noticed which probably took care of the thin water jacket walls) and new clutch. I also replaced the 3 barrel carb with a 2 barrel weber kit. ALL those vacuum tubes came out and the thing ran amazing for years. No computers, no injection. Check for spark, fuel and coolant.
"You watch too much TV".... Indeed!! Reminds me of my second car, a '71. very fun car; I miss it. This one will make lots of smiles once your friend gets done with it.
Seeing an old car being cleaned like this is a treat for the eyes. Same with bikes. In India when we were young we treated our bikes like this. Even going as far as to polish the sidewalls of the tyres with black shoe polish!
As the former owner of two 1970 and 1972 - 1977 BMW 2002, I also had my second car rust protected with a set of Finnish Locari, alu shelves on top of the front wheels, and I asked the man spraying rust-oil inside, to exchange the original foam round the tank (I had noticed rust around the tank in my first car), with some Building Sealant, which didn't collect moisture! He also found some spaces not displayed in the "Spray Charts", and gave those oil inside on top. So when I sold my second BMW in 1977, for a new and absolutely horrible built BMW 320 (It spent more of my next 9 month as an owner, being repaired from its Warranty, than by me!), it was definitely without any rust, in spite of those BMWs are being known to be total rust buckets. I didn't know then and was fond of mine. Finn. Denmark

I am not a huge fan of "patina" in general, but the light blue and rust combination ... perfection !
just refurbish the mechanic and let the interior and exterior as it is. it just looks great with the patina!

There’s something extremely satisfying about watching these old cars take a bath 👍👍
This channel really abouta make me wanna clean cars more deeply and/ or purschase old cars to flip
From Spain in Europe man i love this work and i dedicate my life into this also. Fantástico, thank you very much .
I really love you saving cars and finding new homes for them. Well done !
20 + years ago used to go to Axel’s shop when I lived in CT. Good to see he’s doing well!
Music and editing on point as always. Love this channel and it’s has taught me so many things
Did I see a Datsun 510 those are hot, had one back in the late 70's.
Who would think watching this could be so satisfying. Love the work you do.
Gotta love when Axel doesn't bring a car trailer. Nope. Just hooks it to a Nissan Hardbody pickup and drags it home. Amazing.
Cool car! You were being nice to Axel, you could tell he really wanted that car. Thanks for the video.
Great work on the BMW. My body is ready for the Toronado. It's one of my all time favorite cars.
"You watch too much TV".... Indeed!! Reminds me of my second car, a '71. very fun car; I miss it. This one will make lots of smiles once your friend gets done with it.
Larry your channel is what I love about America!!!!! Keep up the good work.
Finn. Denmark
Nice episode. As always thanks for the content Larry!
That 2002 definitely need your touch, saving it
