Thx for all the wonderful comments! Chuck is thrilled we got the car out of the garage so quick, I'm happy to get the TA to a great home, and the new owner is OVER THE MOON excited about his new project. It was a win win win. I check Hagerty valuation tool with the exact VIN # for those of you wondering. I wish I could put a screen shot up here, but it says the lowest value (poor condition, not running, bits of rust, mold, etc etc...) = $1,560. The average price in GOOD condition (not great or concours but running) is $7,300. So I think Chuck got a fair value for his car 1. In that condition, not having to remove/flatbed/used car lot etc... 2. Having it done within 2 days and no hassles with posting on the internet, 3. Cash in hand 4. Paid his price (which was a bit more than what the valuation tools suggested, but at the end it worked out. At the time, I was unclear what the "instagram world" would pay for it all cleaned up. Nervous at first, but happy in the end) 5. Grandson made some loot for an email and phone call. Not bad at all :) Hindsight being 20-20, I think I paid more than fair value price for a 3rd gen TA in that condition (per Hagerty), and the new owner paid top dollar (according to Hagerty) because he wanted that specific 4-speed and transmission. So still worked out. I'm unclear why that particular tranny is so desirable, but nonetheless he was very happy to be the first to get the TA before the 4 others. Super glad that EVERYONE made out and we were able to film it for an episode. Isn't it crazy that TH-cam IS FREE TO WATCH as a viewer. Yeah there's ads...but on TV you PAY to watch Ads (that you cant skip). Grateful for such a open platform.
@ammonyc im Chucks oldest grandson, we watched the video this afternoon! I haven't seen that car look anything like that since I was 10! ( im 35) very very very good job man !
Most of third gen F body that were manual came with a T-5 transmission (5 speed). The 5 speed don't take abuse very well. An other thing that make this rare is the t-top package with air cond. You don't see that very often. One thing that is strange to me is the one stage paint. I have a 1980 trans am and it's a 2 stage paint with the clear all peeling off. Also had a mustang from same era (fox body) and It also had a clear coat paint.
Thank you, Im the new owner and have another 82 Automatic car and that 77 Special Edition! I appreciate the kind words! Im in the process of replacing the entire cooling, fuel and braking system to make it road ready!
@@mrbohn23 You and your mechanics should have a TH-cam channel, definitely enhanced the entertainment value of this video. The before and after of the car plus the energy at the end getting the car started absolutely made this the best ammo video 👏🏼
what a satisfying vid. not only cleaning up the car, but seeing it fire right up, do a smoky burnout, and finding the ac even works! thats a proper good barnfind. it makes a huge difference when theyre kept INSIDE.
@Newholland1982 27 years qualifies for decades. And anything 20 years older or older is in fact a classic and only a few years away from being an actual antique. Its close enough and barn/garage who cares? I'd say this this is close enough to be a 'barn find'
The old man got what he wanted out of it and 'ammo' got what he wanted out of it and I'm assuming the guy that bought it will get what he's wanting out of it...End up on a classic car lot for $30k
Just a tip for any detailers out there, from a painter. Your mil thickness gauge tells you total thickness of dry material, including undercoats. So your paint thickness could be say, 8 mil, and you could only have 1 mil of clearcoat to work with.
I was wondering this the other day.. so essentially a thickness gauge isn't much use at all for anything other than seeing whether one panel has been resprayed ?
Factory clear coat usually constitutes at least 50-60% of the entire paint depth, and some high-end depth gauges will provide you with the different layer depths. But if yours doesn't, begin by taking a paint depth reading from inside a door panel close to where the hinges are located (or the underside of a hood or trunk lid). These areas are always factory painted with the bare minimum of clear coat as they're never exposed to the elements. Next, deduct the inner panel reading from the outer panel reading and you'll have a pretty good idea of how much clear you'll have to play with on the outside of the car. I've polished 2000+ cars during my detailing career and this has always worked pretty good for me, so much so that I never invested in a multi-layer paint gauge. Also, If a car has been repainted in places, you'll find that the amount of clear coat on that panel/area will far exceed the amount of clear coat the factory used in the first place, so you'll have fewer worries about cutting through to the base coat when wet sanding/polishing. Hope this helps guys.
4500$ is a steal, even for 145k miles. GM also had a recall back in 82 because the hupcaps kept flying off and they had different clips that would go on the hubcaps but nobody ever really did it. So now the best thing to do is to use zip ties to hold the hubcaps on. You have to do that all while the wheel is off so that you can attach it all without seeing the zip ties.
@@JC-yf1tc well enthusiasts would pay more than that. If I had the money I would want to. Maybe because to me that was one of the coolest cars from my childhood
Larry, this video made me cry with joy! Seriously. I lost my father last year and in 1986 he bought a 1984 Manual Trans Am off the boat here in Australia. Black with grey trim. He kept it in top condition. The car passed to me and as much of a money pit that it is, it runs well and due to the memories I just cant sell it. Thanks for rekindling my passion for this vehicle and motivating me to keep it detailed and pristine. Keep up the great work!
I have an 84 TA also 5 speed Borg Warner. My Father and I replaced the 305 with a 350 .030 over and some goodies. My dad also gave me this car many years Ago. Fun to drive Happy Roads.
I had no idea what those guys were talking about, but their pure unbridled joy and excitement was positively infectious! I immediately broke out into a smile and I am so happy for the new owner.
Thank you, I have two 82 Trans Ams and have had 8 total over the years! This one has been undergoing what will be a several year extensive restoration!!!!
I love this channel. What you see is what you get. There aren't any tricks, there isn't any nonsense, I'm just watching hard work being done. After a long day, this is the type of channel to go to!
Larry your channel has inspired me to get into washing and detailing cars. I do mine, my wife, family members and friends. It was always a joy of mine. My dad and I used to love washing his car on Saturday afternoons when I was a little boy. Unfortunately he passed away a few years ago. Now my little boy helps me and we can make fun memories and make people happy with a fresh clean car
Best reselling episode I have ever seen since the old times of wheeler dealers, got it for a great deal which brings humility in society that you can get a deal like that. The after shots are beautiful too, you’ve come a long way with the cinematically
It was cool for me to find this video. Throughout the '70s I was an engineer at the Pontiac Headquarters plant. When I needed to drive to a supplier's location for a meeting I could drive any company car I wanted. Of course, Transam whenever available.
I have a 81 t-topp formula. I'm second owner since 1986. It is burnt orange and black. Rally wheel orange also. It has a gm sticker in back window that says GM personal executive vehicle. Have you any info on this? Only one iv'e ever seen with it.
@@terrylewis8802 The sticker saying Executive Driven is new to me... but I left the company in 1980. When I was there, Executive cars were driven by an executive for 3 months, then offered to employees for 30% off retail. The executive driver had to provide feedback on the car during the three months for quality purposes. I bought one of these cars each year, drove it for a year then sold it to an extended family member. I bought whatever the extended family member wanted, so basically it was sold before I bought it.
@@jackonthefarm5540 I ask judges at the trans-am national show in Dayton several years ago about it. None had ever seen it before. I figured some top executive drove it as a demo car. A t-top formula is rare and the color combo is really rare.
Seeing all these videos over the years has really been inspiring. From being in that other guys shop, to finally your place now has been quite the ride. These more recent videos of the car finds and flipping them has really been a joy to watch. Seeing the buyers so satified puts a smile on my face. Thanks for all the great videos Larry! 😀
Whats so cool about Larry is that whenever he finds cars like this one he always asks the owner of its history, a great trait as a presenter, plus his legendary detailing prowess, its really a joy to watch these episodes of Drive + Protect the minutes go really fast, speaks to how enjoyable this series is
As a Pontiac guy who came of age in the 70s, I had this same 305 V8 engine (with a two barrel carb and a three speed auto transmission) in a Vega based 1979 Sunbird notchback coupe, buckskin/ butter tan paint with the Ralley option package: three color gradient bronze/gold lower body graphics (no screaming chicken on the hood), rear decklid body colored lip spoiler, discreet body colored front spoiler, dark graphite sport wheels with the polished chrome trim rings, buckskin tan bucket seats with center console and shifter, Trans Am steering wheel, the unique dash with tach and speedo (80mph?) and an eight track AM only(?) stereo with one center speaker in the front and one in the rear package tray. My buddies said it looked like a Trans Am that had been left in the dryer too long - the "baby" Trans Am. My high school graduation present. I ruined my drivers license in that thing - it was fast, relatively low key, comfortable and very torquey. Never, ever saw another like it save for my neighbor who had an identical one in sapphire blue, same package but with a V6 and five speed transmission. Loved, loved, LOVED that car. Always loved Pontiacs and that 305 engine was bulletproof. Watching this video brings back many fond memories - love your channel and the revival/preservation that you do!
Unfortunately, that 305 was a dog. A stock Trans Am lost 1.3 seconds in the 1/4 mile from 1979 to 1982. It felt like a lot more on the street, though. I was shocked at how my 79 6.6 would dust those guys in 1982. They were lighter but at a ~ 60-hp disadvantage.
Awesome work as always, Larry! A lot of people commenting on the large profits from the flip but let's face it, the original owner wasn't going to get it detailed to anywhere near this level before selling it. If anything this just drives home how impactful it can be to properly stage your car (or anything else you're selling).
Of course, but it’s easier to find an issue with the video. Just nuts. Everyone was thrilled… literally thrilled. The owner got it out of the house immediately (his goal) I made a profit on cleaning an old car, and the new owner was nearly in tears for this car. Win win win. But TH-cam comments…
@ AMMO NYC. If you broke down the total investment of your education, network, shop, insurance, staff, tools, and overhead to make that $6,000 if nothing else you were being incredibly fair if not cheap selling it. If anyone thinks you made too much you should invite them to spend the $2 million plus you have to get where you are so they can make their own $6k and see if they think it's too much.
Why don’t people realise that businesses are there to make a profit, and at times also make a loss that has to be covered. When you factor in the time to find the car view the car trailer or get the car back to the studio, the time spent cleaning it and the cost of the products used, then the tax that the business has to pay on the profits it all dwindles down. I came across your videos a couple year ago Larry and wanted most of them and learned so much detailing tips and tricks from you as well as you can’t just wash them in California when you had to put the large mat down when you did the red Lamborghini. Also from your vids I have learnt so much from Kevin buff daddy Great work, loved watching your studio build too, thinking of it that was during lockdown so been watching your channel now for about three years.
I was about to say, only 6k! Here in Canada, a full classic car detailled can go up to 10k depending on what you really want to get. Simple or showroom detailled lol!
As someone who watches these to get ideas about washing and detailing normal daily cars these car flip videos are SUPER helpful and informative. I love seeing videos of you detailing 1 of 100 cars, or jets, or super cars too, but these are like rewatching the detailing 101 school you put on.
I like his videos, but with 2 million subscribers he does not have to worry about having to flipping cars for income any more, glad this guy is successful on here.
That was the most New York negotiation and payment process I’ve ever seen in my life 😂 Great work and great sale! Really enjoying the “How much value can a detail add to a flip?” videos. Can’t wait for the next!
New York is correct. It reminds me of selling a Triumph motorcycle where the buyer agreed to my price and came only to inspect and collect. But then, he pulled out and flashed LESS in cash from his pocket. So I guess for this scheme you might also have separate stacks of additional thousands in your OTHER pocket, just in case the seller said $6K, in which case you might just happen to have $4, $5, or $6K in cash. Note also that the first person to name a number loses. This is why at the great 47th Street Photo every question was answered with a question: "Hi, how much is this Nikon F3?" which was answered only by "How much do you want to pay for this camera???"
Larry is such a legend. This is some of the purest content I’ve seen. Dude obviously loves cars and loves cleaning them. He also loves helping people. Thanks, Larry. You’re the man. 🤘🏻
From another Larry here- I finally machine polished a car for the first time ever thanks to your videos and it came out amazing! I don't know why I was so afraid to jump in before. Keep up the info packed videos!
@@dillanmistry I have alot of stuff going on in my personal life and I gotta say it was very therapeutic to go through all of the steps from washing, interior detail, clay bar and polishing. Felt very accomplished now I'm hooked lol
@@thabrownieviking stay hooked, haha like r you try you know what you need to focus on, also since your new, a good tip is to use a damp towel to wipe the initial polish off then a dry one if the polish is sticky and you don’t need to see the polish trail bit (so you know the polish is on the car/ the polish) as long as it’s translucent your good too, use an IPA before waxing if you find the wax doesn’t perform well. And mate once you start it only gets better
Seemed like the perfect buyer for this beauty - he will certainly appreciate this car and the work you put in - what a great find and a great flip for you. I'm happy to see the car fire up and the a/c still working - along with all the original parts you were able to locate - this guy couldn't be happier and in the end that's what it is all about! Money comes and goes - his smile will be sticking around for awhile!
Watching this video was a blast! I know I'm a hard-core car guy because I smiled from beginning to end, but when you got it running, that was awesome! The burn-out was badass! Thanks to everyone for making this possible.
Really enjoyed this vid, especially as a Knight Rider fan. Coming from a family car business, I've bought and sold lots of cars and can only say good for you for getting a good turn at this one. What many people don't appreciate are the overheads that have to be factored in, the hours and days put into prepping it (all of which looks much easier than it is when condensed into a 30min youtube video) and also the potential risk you're taking with any car - if this one wasn't a runner for example or turned out to have a completely rotten chassis, you'd have been well down from that $10.5k deal.
I had a 1982 Camaro and this brings back so many memories from the secret compartment to the power window switches. I'm absolutely a hysterical Trans-Am fan I'm so glad this car was saved.
Dear God this zapped me right back to mine! I had the same one except it was all gold. I literally got goosebumps when that car turned over. You can't ever forget the sound of that engine. The most amazing summers were had in that car with the t-tops off heading south on the Garden State Parkway. Hate to admit it but I shed a tear that you sold it. These sports cars of the 80's were just absolutely the best cars ever!
I don't know what to say if I was the original owner of this car being flipped by that much. But seeing the new one puts love to his TAs, I'd be happy that it's in good hands as well. And to Larry, you are hands down the GOAT detailing TH-camr. Keep it up! Looking forward to your next video!
Loving the cleaning of a car anyone can afford. High mileage - ok. Not perfect - ok. Giving the everyday person a showcase of what dedication and patience can yield. Keep these coming!
This is the fourth video I've watched in the last couple of days. So So So satisfying. I told one of the boys about you and he's already a fan, said your videos hit that OCD spot lol. And as a guy who buys and sells cars for fun and profit, I've learned so many new techniques to add to my repertoire. Amazing videos, and looking forward to watching more and learning more!!!!
That was a few days work in reality, but well worth it. Can't believe the owner didn't look after it or want it anymore, it's still up there as one of the most beautiful looking cars on the planet all these decades later, it sooo holds up in looks.
I admit I was a fan of Knight Rider when I was young. That car is iconic for me. Thanks for sharing, Larry. You are one lucky SOB. Keep up the great content.
The thing that drives me crazy about your videos is that the cars you treat, once washed, don't even have a scratch and leave the tires flat. I am convinced that these are well preserved and artfully soiled cars.
My first car was an '82 Trans Am. At 19 years of age I bought it in '89 with just over 100k miles on it. Ran it up to 165k over the next 3 years. Lots of repairs long the way. Ttops leaked. Tranny blew out. Rear end gone. 4 alternators. Radiator...all the hoses too. Hub caps? Found 4 at a used hub cap, wheel and tire shop. Lost several in a short span of time and gave up. Found some after market wheels that looked like GTA wheels. The engine was kaput by the end. The highlight was one of the Ttops blew off while driving down the highway on a Sunday morning. Thankfully no accidents resulted from it crashing to the pavement. Chick magnet!
They look awesome and have major nostalgia value for people of a certain age but no they were not quality reliable built to last cars at all. Even when they were new when I was a kid I remember hearing about how they were money pits
Good to see the car jump from enthusiast to enthusiast you know it's in good hands! Always nice see this channel still is on it's a-game, been a follower for many years and always get excited when a video like this comes out. We have a few great detailing channels from Sweden nowdays and a few that have done similar career journeys as Larry and i bet most of them have watched alot of your stuff. Cheers!
I love all this flipping cars video from you Larry, especially this one where you make the car look beautiful again, and the man who buy it is a perfect fit. Easily one of my favourite video from this channel. Keep doing a great job! Love from Indonesia!

Larry, I just came across your channel the other day - where have I been?! I think that ultimately most of life is about the presentation when all is said and done and that could not be more true when it comes to cars. This is an absolute treasure trove of very interesting videos as well as great tricks and tips I did not have until now. I could not be happier to have subscribed. Thank you so much!
This was amazing. The detail and seeing this come back to life so quickly was awesome. I'm a Porsche guy and have been my whole life. But these old Trans Am's carry so many childhood memories and nostalgia, that I'll always have soft spot for them. Well done sir.

That brought back a lot of memories. I had an 82 Trans Am. It was a Recaro edition, same color, with the 305 crossfire injection and automatic. Replaced the 305 and trans with a 327 and 350 turbo trans. You did a great job on detail. I wish I still had mine.
GM was notorious for under-reporting the bhp of these cars, we had a 89 Iroc that was advertised as 170bhp but dino'd at 205 all day long. PS: Love the neighbor helping, he seems like a good person.
NICE!!! This was a real pleasure to watch! :D My first car was an '84 T/A , (and still have it 25 yrs later! gave it to my son and we're gonna restore it when he's a few years older). I love the way these cars look and drive. 82-84 is my favorite 3rd gen. Also, I have a 2nd '84 6 cylinder (bare bones model) that we're trying to get going soon for Drag Week in September '23.
Goes back to pay the 500$ after selling it for 10,500 is hell of a deal the older gentleman got it out of his house Larry gave it the love it deserves and the collector knows what that car is and can appreciate it so it’s a win win win situation.👍🏽
I was married in 83’ and we rented a red 83 Pontiac Trans Am from Hertz to drive to Napa Valley for our honeymoon from Fresno Ca. The car drove great. This video brought back some awesome memories.
My dad had a bandit car JUST like the one the guy showed up in. Even had the same front plate from the movie. I detailed it for him just before he sold it. Such an amazing car, I wish he had kept it
We need more people like Larry and the previous owner of This T/A in the world. A fine job as always, Larry! I'll have to come visit one time being in CT and being a fellow detailer.
My uncle had a red one of these in the late 80’s, had a huge air intake and the graphics on the hood…I think it was either flames or eagles. He drove this with hand controls as he is paralysed from the waist down, wish he kept it but it must still be floating about Scotland somewhere
What an awesome video!! The old girl cleaned up very well(thanks to you), and the buyer and his buddies seems like awesome guys and definitely love their Trans Ams. That old girl is going to a loving home.
My mother owns a 1988 Pontiac GTA Trans AM, Manual that's been sitting in her garage for over 26 years. If anyone is interested, message me for details.
Unbelievable that transformation!!!!! I have been watching your you tube movies a while now , but the most satisfying was this one. I also watched the red trans -am you took from queens and i would love to see a FULL restauration on that one to! Keep them coming please you are doing a beautiful job every time. greetings. sorry in advance if i misspelled anything i am from the netherlands. If you need a hand with cleaning your immaculate garage i am going to emigrate to america soon.(no joke)
Brings back so many memories, I had an 82 like this in silver and an 83 with the cross-fire fuel injection. I remember someone was smart enough to have wired the hubcaps on and I think you can still get a lug wrench in there. I could be mistaken and it's been over 30 years since I owned it.
Absolutely, I have aftermarket hubcaps on mine but fixed them to the wheels with three zipties per hubcap. You can still remove und bolt the lug nuts through the wholes in the hubcaps. Awesome car, I never want to sell it.
Born in 84 and watching Knight Rider growing up cemented this car as my favourite of all times. I will probably never own one though (big summer cars are too impactical these days, motorcycles are easier to deal with) but seeing one in traffic always makes my day.
I keep seeing stuff about a Pontiac Firebird all over on my phone within the past month or two & I've never searched up anything. But it's been my dream car since I was a little kid.
24:36 "The Knight Rider Start-Up"...ha! I love it! First time I ever heard this phrase, and we are going to have to use that! Awesome!!! And 24:55 we love the ringtone! You have great clientele!!!
Incredible episode!!! I was 14 when the 82 came out and I always loved the twin mufflers underneath the trunk. I had a 78 Z28 and though both were slow compared to today, I always loved outrunning the new Z's and T/A's. Of course the next couple of years saw the 190hp H/O come out and the outrunning days were over. I still remember going to the car dealerships when the new cars were coming out. The new Corvette came out in 1984 and I went into look at it. I was 16 and the car had a sticker of 27k. Z28's were 17k.
Those prices seem a bit high. I'm about 3 years younger than you. My dad bought a brand new 89 Mustang GT with a 5 speed manual for 13k. I guess a difference in location would account for the price difference though.
Larry, been watching your videos for years, and it was a treat to see you work on a car I've been turning into a Knight Rider Replica :) You do amazing work! Those wheels, the ONLY cleaner I've seen do them any good is Eagle One Mag Wheel Cleaner, it's acidic and will eat / loosen up the brake dust / dirt / grime from those rough cast wheels!
@23:50 i noticed the rear spoiler hasn't got shiny finish, is this because paint too thin there ? Them spoilers plastic or fiberglass could be reason paint got worn differently I'm guessing.
This is amazing, I haven't watched this channel for so long but now I remember how great it is. I don't know why I stopped watching, I guess TH-cam didn't show more videos
I really enjoyed this episode! I'm still very confused how a car that has been sitting for so long can start that quick. 😂 It just fired up instantly. Also the new owner 100% deserved this car. I love how excited they were when it started up plus the mad little burnout before packing the car up was awesome. What a legends! 👍🏻
This was the best ammo video I’ve ever seen. My first video was that rare amg convertible that was never washed, i still remember you did a little clay demonstration on it. Probably 8 years ago or something now 😳 keep crushing it larry
Such a great episode Larry that guy was super cool reminds me of my grandpa. "I know where to find you you're on TH-cam"...lol😂🤣😂 This car certainly brings back a lot of memories and it was so satisfying watching you clean that beauty up nice job!
I bought an 82 black and gold Trans Am with black interior, gold and chrome American Racing mags, with chrome spinners, automatic and no t tops with 10,000 miles on the spot in 1985. This video took me right back to the 80s.
KITT enjoyed his bath, I'll bet! Every time I see this model of Trans Am, the Knight Rider theme immediately pops into my head! Gorgeous and a great clean & resto. Nice work
I have been a subscriber to your channel for two years now, but just came across this video. I was googling Trans Am restoration because my son just bought a 1978 Firebird Trans Am. I am new at detailing and have learned a lot from watching you. However, I have a lot to learn about paint. I thought the car would have single stage paint but when I used the paint gauge, I had real high numbers all over the place (7-16) including lots of putty detected. There was no paint transfer onto any of the microfiber rags. The paint on the roof had lots of bubbles so I did not want to do a paint correction because I don't understand what I am dealing with. My son also wants to remove all the decals and replace them with new ones. So I figured a paint correction could be done after the decals are removed. There are also rock chips that have been repaired with touch up paint and not in a good way. I'm thinking he should just repaint the entire car, but he doesn't want that expense. So my question is, how should I go about doing the paint correction?. Should I not touch the roof the car? What about polishing over the little rock marks that have touch up paint on them? I did forget to check the paint inside the door jams. Any advise you could give me would be so helpful. Thank you.
Larry, this episode was awesome!!! Enjoyed every single moment of it!!! I can’t even explain how much I enjoyed this one!!! Wooow!!! Such an amazing dream car it is!!! So happy for you!!! 🤩 Ps. After long-long years of thorough profund research, British scientists have finally proven that you have the most valuable bin lid in the history of mankind (everyone loves G-Wagons)! 😉😎
Seeing this I so miss my 1982 Trans Am which was the first car I owned. It was such a cool car to drive through the mountains of Colorado with the T-tops off in the summer, and it did amazing in the snow as well.
Awesome episode!!! As a thirdgen firebird fanatic you got a smokin deal on that trans am, even in its current condition! (Bowling ball caps and M4 really seal the deal haha) Thirdgen prices are going crazy lately
I never heard of your product and don't know much about it however your style of detailing is pretty much like my own I'm very impressed and believe me when it comes to detailing vehicles, it takes a lot to impress me, awesome work 😎👍💯
Thx for all the wonderful comments!
Well said Larry!
I've known Matt since grade school and there are few people better to be the care taker for this vehicle. Congratulations, Matt! 👏🏼👏🏼
@@stevedespatie8351 1982 was only year with 4 speed manual. 1983 and up it was a 5 speed

what a satisfying vid. not only cleaning up the car, but seeing it fire right up, do a smoky burnout, and finding the ac even works! thats a proper good barnfind. it makes a huge difference when theyre kept INSIDE.

The owner had a nice garage, too.
Not to mention everyone walked away very happy from that exchange from the looks of it. A win-win all around.
@Jesse Baker zv
@Newholland1982 27 years qualifies for decades. And anything 20 years older or older is in fact a classic and only a few years away from being an actual antique. Its close enough and barn/garage who cares? I'd say this this is close enough to be a 'barn find'

This made me so happy. Absolutely loved this.
Probably the most insane paint difference I’ve seen on any of your vids. Great stuff
Just a tip for any detailers out there, from a painter. Your mil thickness gauge tells you total thickness of dry material, including undercoats. So your paint thickness could be say, 8 mil, and you could only have 1 mil of clearcoat to work with.
I'm Not a detailer but that's cool
I was wondering this the other day.. so essentially a thickness gauge isn't much use at all for anything other than seeing whether one panel has been resprayed ?
@@juancornetto8243 that and knowing weather you have enough to even correct
@@willf1118 Well thats the point.. you don't know that. It might all be basecoat and no clear...
I'm sure that David Haselhoff would be very proud. The fact that its a manual trans makes it more valuable. Great job. Thank you.
4500$ is a steal, even for 145k miles. GM also had a recall back in 82 because the hupcaps kept flying off and they had different clips that would go on the hubcaps but nobody ever really did it. So now the best thing to do is to use zip ties to hold the hubcaps on. You have to do that all while the wheel is off so that you can attach it all without seeing the zip ties.
even 5000 would have been a steal.
yep, I'd buy that all day long for five grand. Can't buy anything for five grand anymore.
I think he could have easily got $20,000 for it. It's an iconic classic with a lot of nostalgia.

What a great way to keep your father’s memory alive within you.
This is cool
Always a new one when I have a bad day 👌🏿👌🏿👌🏿👌🏿
Whats so cool about Larry is that whenever he finds cars like this one he always asks the owner of its history, a great trait as a presenter, plus his legendary detailing prowess, its really a joy to watch these episodes of Drive + Protect the minutes go really fast, speaks to how enjoyable this series is
As a Pontiac guy who came of age in the 70s, I had this same 305 V8 engine (with a two barrel carb and a three speed auto transmission) in a Vega based 1979 Sunbird notchback coupe, buckskin/ butter tan paint with the Ralley option package: three color gradient bronze/gold lower body graphics (no screaming chicken on the hood), rear decklid body colored lip spoiler, discreet body colored front spoiler, dark graphite sport wheels with the polished chrome trim rings, buckskin tan bucket seats with center console and shifter, Trans Am steering wheel, the unique dash with tach and speedo (80mph?) and an eight track AM only(?) stereo with one center speaker in the front and one in the rear package tray.
Also from your vids I have learnt so much from Kevin buff daddy
Great work, loved watching your studio build too, thinking of it that was during lockdown so been watching your channel now for about three years.
I was about to say, only 6k! Here in Canada, a full classic car detailled can go up to 10k depending on what you really want to get. Simple or showroom detailled lol!
Yeah, he made it look easy. But there was a lot of effort and hidden risks.
At least 4k by the looks

Watching this video was a blast! I know I'm a hard-core car guy because I smiled from beginning to end, but when you got it running, that was awesome! The burn-out was badass! Thanks to everyone for making this possible.
I'm not even a car guy that's awesome to see the car go from being in the garage to having someone that appreciates the car buy it. Awesome video.
I just sent your video to a buddy of mine, who bought one of these in 1982 when we were in high school. Brings back good memories. Thanks for sharing.

Larry..I can assure you that as a 16 year old in 1982, this car was truly a thing of dreams! Thanks for the great video!
Born in 84 and watching Knight Rider growing up cemented this car as my favourite of all times. I will probably never own one though (big summer cars are too impactical these days, motorcycles are easier to deal with) but seeing one in traffic always makes my day.
One of the best videos I’ve ever seen.Production, skill, labor is TOP TIER.
They were even slow according to then... the 1970s-1980s were pretty slow... the 1960s were extremely fast for how simple they were.
Literally I trust Larry so muchh that he will definitely can bring any car into no matter how old is it ! Hugee respect to you sirr.....😄
Clearly he touched all the right spots. It was raring to go.
New owner was running confederate flag on his front bumper tho🤨🤨
@@oswaldgobblepot 🙄
This was the best ammo video I’ve ever seen. My first video was that rare amg convertible that was never washed, i still remember you did a little clay demonstration on it. Probably 8 years ago or something now 😳 keep crushing it larry
Such a great episode Larry that guy was super cool reminds me of my grandpa. "I know where to find you you're on TH-cam"...lol😂🤣😂 This car certainly brings back a lot of memories and it was so satisfying watching you clean that beauty up nice job!
He was super cool for sure & happy the car will be back on the road!
Every once in a while I go back to watch this video. I still can’t believe this car is in my fleet.
I bought an 82 black and gold Trans Am with black interior, gold and chrome American Racing mags, with chrome spinners, automatic and no t tops with 10,000 miles on the spot in 1985. This video took me right back to the 80s.
One of my favorite videos! Always a joy to see these videos! The after look is fantastic and looks like new! Keep up the amazing work Larry!
Gotta love that gm build quality. Hasn’t been started in 20+ years and fires right up to do burnouts.
Thats just the simplicity of old carbureted cars
" GM build quality"? In one of their 1980s cars? That was often a misnomer 😆
50/50 on this car was amazing! The depth the single stage brought back was incredible.
Thank you.
The best of the best! A very hard worker and great detailer, incredible videos, thank you Larry!
This episode was far better then anything available on tv. Solid carflip for a solid car detail. Greetings from the Netherlands.
Larry, this episode was awesome!!! Enjoyed every single moment of it!!! I can’t even explain how much I enjoyed this one!!! Wooow!!! Such an amazing dream car it is!!! So happy for you!!! 🤩
Ps. After long-long years of thorough profund research, British scientists have finally proven that you have the most valuable bin lid in the history of mankind (everyone loves G-Wagons)! 😉😎
I turned 16 in 1982.
To confirm your statement, these were like nothing else on the road and they were amazing to see driving past!
Seeing this I so miss my 1982 Trans Am which was the first car I owned.
It was such a cool car to drive through the mountains of Colorado with the T-tops off in the summer, and it did amazing in the snow as well.
A celebration of keeping old cars alive and on the road. Great video as usual!
Awesome episode!!! As a thirdgen firebird fanatic you got a smokin deal on that trans am, even in its current condition! (Bowling ball caps and M4 really seal the deal haha) Thirdgen prices are going crazy lately
That new owner deserves that car 100%. His scream was awesome when engine started. Another legend turned back to road.
I never heard of your product and don't know much about it however your style of detailing is pretty much like my own I'm very impressed and believe me when it comes to detailing vehicles, it takes a lot to impress me, awesome work 😎👍💯
The previous owner took really good care of this thing when he used it! Great condition for 140k miles
Can't believe this thing was only 29k back then
