Hi! Thanks for the follow up. Interestingly, the fault was the hydraulic unit. It must have been internally leaking when it got hot as we were not loosing fluid, just pressure which caused the intermittent problems. I found a low mileage used unit so all is well and I am loving my SMG again.
Hi everyone, one question if anybody knows? My 645CI SMG after it gets warm, at a stop gets confused and falls out of gear and won't go back in 1st but only switches between 1st and 2nd gear and it also won't go in the R. After 20 min or so it's all back to normal. I've changed shift sensor and selection sensor because my car would't go in 2nd, 4th and 6th gear. That's when I started having problems with my smg, but after that this temperature problem occurred. Is it because the hydraulic unit can't hold pressure? The Clutch position sensor or actuator slave cylinder? Leak somewhere? Adaptation on a cold trans? Help please.
Thanks for the vid. I’m about to rebuild my Smg III pump. I hope it’s not as bad as this one. I have one fault like you did (position, deviation). Ista said to replace the clutch valve. I’m going to replace the o rings inspect and clean pump etc and hope that does it. My car runs and shifts great. Only issues is jerkiness for first couple engagements and the occasional trans fault message. Did you ever get to part two?
Thanks for your video! Good information! Any thoughts on why my SMG refuses to shift after driving in stop and go traffic (when it gets very warm)? It does not seem to throw any codes.
@@Drillito Yup! We ended up replacing the hydraulic unit as a whole. It was not losing fluid but when it got hot it did not maintain pressure. Thus it was intermittent based on transmission and ambient temperature. We found a good used hydraulic unit as new units are very expensive. After a couple of thousand kms all is good!
@@barrykowalchuk5739 Hi, thanks for your reply, it means a lot! So if I'm experiencing the same problem. won't go in R, if it does it snaps back to N, and between 1 an 2 gear just shifts under the car, but the car still in N. Do we have the same problem? I was thinking of changing my clutch actuator and sensor, or rotational sensor. But if it's temperature based problem, than is it for shure hydraulic unit? So I don't buy all these sensors for nothing.
@@Drillito Great question. If you are experiencing problems only when your transmission is hot, then perhaps the same issue but it is so difficult to diagnose from afar. I wish you the very best in your efforts though.

Nice walktrough of the smg!
Thank you
Nice to see the SMG system mate I never had the pleasure to get one out 👍👍👍👍 cheers
Not as complex as it sounds

Check for leak
Hi, did you solve the problem?

This is new to me, I've not worked on the SMG system, interesting stuff mate
Thanks its not as complex as it sounds
Part 2 ??
Great video m8 thanks.
Do you use a particular supplier for hgv diag machine. I'm soon looking for mancat and davie
Cheers
You found the issues with that box already...
A fluid change and is ready to go...
👍👍👍👍
Thanks for your comment 😉
Hi, i have a question..
what was aktually the problem? did you fix it with oil change? or you change something else too??
thanks for the answer 🙂
did u actually watch the video? the motor was buggered
Interesting. Which is worse...minging or boggin? 😀 Cheers
