    Thanks to Sreten for his very kind comments and for giving us the opportunity to be of service here. We love building all Alusil-based BMW motors (and the S54 too), but the S62 will always have a special place in my heart. Going to be a lot of fun to film some cool videos in the Partee Racing shop, and perhaps we will even be able to elicit a visit from nearby James Clay of Bimmerworld!

      @ParteeRacingLLC-oy9ul 10 วันที่ผ่านมา +7

      @@tonymontana897That is unfortunately an erroneous view that has been repeated enough to be believed by quite a few, even well respected shops. Alusil can be bored and honed like any other material. One simply has to add a final step: re-exposure of the silicone from the aluminum substrate through a honing procedure with felt pads and special paste until certain roughness parameters are hit (Ra, Rvk, Rpk, Mr1 , and Mr2).

    Buckle up, folks! This is about to be the most detailed S62 tear-down TH-cam has ever seen-73 glorious minutes of engine bliss! Grab a cold beer (or maybe two), get comfy, and prepare to be dazzled by every bolt, gasket, and questionable life choice that led us here. It’s basically a feature film for gearheads…but with more grease and fewer happy endings. 😂

    Nice disassembly of the damaged M5 engine. Good job as always!
    Sreten, one kind reminder: when you zinc plating bolts, bear in mind that 10.9 and 12.9 bolts are not suitable for zinc plating due to Hydrogen embrittlement, so please consult with your plating shop about it. Hydrogen from acids can enter the crystal structure of those high-tensile-class materials and to simplify it, cause "rust" around the crystal borders, meaning they can snap at any time under tension. There is a heat treatment for 10.9 bolts that lowers the likeliness of breaking zinc-plated ones but that is not 100% insurance. Those high tensile class bolts (10.9 and 12.9) are usually zinc flake coated. I know how particular you can be so just want to add my two cents; keep up the good work!

    • @TheShred89
      @TheShred89 13 วันที่ผ่านมา +32

      You can have them de embrittled shortly after plating to negate this. We often have this done on high tensile materials >1000n/mm² that need plating.

      A lot of these bolts were originally coated with a zincpolymer coating like dacromet, delta seal etc. These are safe on all grades of bolt and give the correct OE look , but it's not so easy to get that done at small volumes.

    It's really amazing when you think that a show like Wheeler Dealers is produced by a team of probably a dozen professionals with formal education and years of industry experience - and Sreten has, by himself, developed and perfected a production that attract millions of people willing to spend hours watching him tear down an engine. Camera, voice over, acting, lighting, cuts, editing, story, all figured out and done by one guy... and on a budget that probably less than what Wheeler Dealers spends on catering.

    • @gman19809
      @gman19809 13 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      I am a big Wheeler Dealers fan but if you watch the show now they show so little of rebuild details that you don't really learn much. It why channels like this are so satisfying and you lean so much!

      @Snarl616 13 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      That's because M539 Restorations is the perfect heir of Wheeler Dealers in my opinion.
      Wheeler Dealers main task is to teach how to fix separate things in order to make you love the work or the car and be interested in cars or becoming a mechanic. M539 Restorations goes deeper, reaching for the tiniest detail of one brand only.

    If you watch this video in reverse you can see evil Sreten's twin assembling engine with old worn parts.
    Awesome build, always wanted to see S62 build and I really hope you can make it +500hp - would love to see how much different it is at this power level to E60 M5 :)

    We can see him doing tons of work but like even more work goes unseen as it happens kinda behind the scenes like that labeling, organizing, editing, researching 😮 And we can see this free it's crazy!

    Thank you so much for always putting such amazing content and great videos. You've truly become my favorite TH-camr and I pretty much stop everything when I see you've uploaded. Before you, I was a big BMW fan but stuck to simpler models (mostly E36 and E46) but you inspired me to truly appreciate the classic golden era of BMW. Because of you I was inspired and comfortable enough to get an E38 750iL like Project Dubai. And not only that, but comfortable and confident enough to work on such a complex car like an M73 E38. Thank you again so much for the amazing content.

    Great video as always Sreten. I never normally take the time to comment on videos but I'm consistently blown away by the work you do on these projects to make them better than factory fresh. (Upgrading weak points as required). I've been a subscriber for a while as I'm a bit of a BMW fan boy and the confidence and ability you have as a mechanic is really impressive. It has given me a bit more confidence to work on my 2014 BMW F31 320i M sport that I've had for over a year now. (Now has over 118k miles on it). There is something more rewarding to me to buying a used car and improving it and making it your own than buying a brand new car out the showroom. Even though the mileage was high on my car, it has had the timing chain and guides done around 10k miles ago and all of the oil seals replaced on the engine as that's a typical BMW issue. I may need to look at replacing the Turbo in the future and fit the LCI oil drain line with the check control valve as I do very occasionally get a small puff of blue smoke on startup for 2 secs. However there doesn't seem to be much oil usage. I've put a few shorts up on my channel. I would love a BMW e39 M5 like yours to call my own, but with a family and mortgage it may be a while! Thanks again from Scotland.

    Very nice work!! I love to see this level of organisation and the videos are fun to watch. Never expected that I could watch a video this long without getting bored, but these are very easy to watch. This scoring could also be from something going through the engine. It could be from the intake, but you should also check the exhaust. These engines are designed to have exhaust scavenging, so pulses travel back into the cylinders. When catlytic converters get old, some of them start to crumble, and this scoring could very well be from cat crumbles. I would advise to check whether the cats are degrading, it would really be a bummer if the new engine gets scoring soon as well. This is not a really common thing on S62 engines as far as I know, but oil consumption could lead to cat degradation.

    Wow. Speechless. The amount of patience required for the VANOS alone is admirable. Am stopping midway to get a sausage and beer (obv a dark lager from RR. Howdy from SF) and then will continue. Can’t wait to see what OEM+ changes are afoot. Thanky for the calming vid-as we face the hell awaiting us on the 20th over here.
