I actually did my compression spring and pin lock behind the top blind plug (gear getting stuck and lag on shifts over 3k RPM) just by tilting the trans down it was tight but it’s possible to do without dropping the whole thing. I made a tool to get the plug back in since it’s a press plug. Man, it felt good to save a stack or 2 in labor cost a shop would charge. 🤙🏻
I had a 2004 SMG 330i and had about 4 transmission mechatronics issues. Costs varied between $400 to $900 each labor +parts. After the first failure I never had confidence in the car. Engine, though was solid.
I’m was getting stuck in gear even when it said neutral. I had and issue with and after market clutch that needed a special throw out bearing with a spacer which we didn’t know. This caused the slave to contact pressure plate and did let the clutches disengage completely. I switched back to stock clutch so hopefully that will fix the issue. Otherwise it might also be this position sensor.
I had codes 38 and 35 SMG on period. Replaced the smg pump motor and it sounded god awful like nails on a chalk board then electrical burning smell. Decided to just manual swap and never had an issue with that BS again 😂
Original smgs with the 24v upgrade brushless motors and extended accumulator are the ones to have. Makes smg bombproof. Manual conversions will fall out of favour among collectors.
I got a 2004 545i with the ssg trans which is similar to this trans and I have code 4EF4 and its doing what you described. But it has 2 not sure which one to replace any advice? Also I replaced the pump and didnt run adaptations could that have made it mess up? I do want to point out that the car ran amazing for a while after changing the pump but now this code came out pretty annoying tbh
Will 4ef5 selection angle sensor, cause a intermittent NO CRANK, NO START? I have a 550i smg2 sitting for 2 years now. New alt and battery and IBS...SIMPLE YES OR NO WOULD BE GREAT
For those who found this comment, and are struggling with the top hex bolt on the GPS: you can use a floor jack + a block of wood to lower the tranny maybe an inch or two and it allows you to reach it properly. That or you have to bend an hex key, which I did. I cannot recommend this method LOL. Best of luck all
So my Automatic 04 330ci has 83,913 miles on it & code P0700 comes up as Transmission Control Module (Mil Request) what could the problem be for my car
@@ShopLifeTV HI there ,Can you help me please? "I replaced the valve cover gasket and after starting the engine, it started to hum and the engine ran as if a cylinder was misfiring. The humming noise comes from the CCV tube that goes into the valve cover. When I disconnect it, there is pressure coming from the tube that causes the humming. When I block the tube with my hand, the engine runs well. Do you know how to solve this problem?" Thanks Joseph

Really Miss your e46 M3 DIY videos .
SMGs are very reliable. The only thing that needs to change is the smg motor, but everything else still functional. 152k in mine and love every mile

Great fix guys! The convertible season is coming, so make sure you can enjoy summer this year. Dutch regards Nico.

Hahahah this is funny I literally did this job today too. Funnily enough there are nearly no TH-cam videos on it….

What is the 38 hydraulic pressure bro ....
Is it really possible to "repair" the GPS without replacing it with a new one, and how?

Do you know of any BMW software that works on the E36 chassis ?
What’s going on with Selena’s v8
Haven’t had time to tear into the engine yet, most likely an issue with a lifter that’s going to end up with a cam upgrade too

Clunk might be the subframe
I paid 3k to fix smg, new pump broke after 5k miles so I paid 10k to convert to manual with new flywheel
Money man lol
For 6k i rather make it an LS swap 🤟🏼
Any competent BMW mechanic in LA county for a 6MT conversion?
aren't those smg's notorious for going bad and having problems? I'd do manual all day

I wouldn't stress about SMG problems. The whole system really isn't that complicated. Worst case scenario you manual swap it

Convert it to a manual.
Permanent SMG fix lol
True story, SMG sucks imo
@@naimjacobs2372 The Achilles heal is the pump. Seals go bad mainly, but fortunately you can actually overhaul them unlike the SMG I
