such an amazing, wonderful, powerful song. never get tired of hearing it. stephen schwartz really did hit gold with this one, as well as with defying gravity.
A genius of our time. As said in the comments before, the best written song of musical theatre that I can remember in my 50 odd years. We are blessed to have lived in the same era as Stephen Swartz and Wicked. Thank you for life changing moments ❤
This song is beautiful and powerful. No matter what my feeling is, every time I hear this song, always make me in tears because of the honesty and respect and true friendship between two people.
I love this! Hearing it from the composer tells us how it truly sounds. Love this song! I'm a navy brat so I move around every three years, so I have to say good bye a lot. My favorite line is It well may be that we will never meet again. So much of me is made of what I learned from you. Those are so relative to my life.
I think he just really gets into playing the song and singing it and just forgets that he was only supposed to play the first verse. And I think that's amazing.
One of the very best songs of all time. Melody, lyrics, voice-writing, character emphasis ... I could go on and on. I wish he'd given more insight into the fabulous metaphors he chose to use!
I've lost touch with the music of Wicked lately, but this is the third performance I've seen of "For Good" this week. Between Lea Michele and Chris Colfer on Glee, Kristen Chenoweth on Idol, and Stephen Schwartz here, I don't think I can handle the awesomeness (and I mean that in the true sense of the word).
Can anyone explain the small physical gesture he keeps making with his left hand as he takes it off the keyboard while playing the piano? You can see him doing it in videos way back in the early 70s and to this day, but I've never seen anyone else do it.
@shamw0wable i sorta have the same thing! Im moving 2 a new skool and im leaving all my closest friends! I goin 2 make a good-bye video 4 them with this being the song in the background!

“This is how the first verse goes’
*proceeds to sing the whole song

@@foxtatertot I think you're right.
@@foxtatertot that happens to everyone who sings it, no? I certainly always sing it straight through, both parts
A true broadway clasic! I love it so much!

Everyone says he should be the wizard. Look at the giant oz head more closely
😮
He's got a good voice, but hes not broadway good enough to actually be in the musical
@@waffleman4137tbf the wizard part doesnt really require an amazing vocalist
Big smile!
I hope that he kept that piece of paper where he took notes from what his daughter said, that wound up being the first verse!
I’m sorry, I’m crying watching this
@Italiagirl9 he's is broadway god

Whoa, I didn't realize that "For Good" was a double entendre but it obviously is! For good meaning where their meant to be, and for goodness sake!
That’s not the double entendre
It’s “for good” as in, permanently
And “for good” as in, for the better
@@SeanyGOneTwoThree lol...Doing God's work
@emzicentauri Oops. She was on Oprah, not Idol. Though, with all of the celebrities and the feel of that episode, it could have been Idol.
Who's here after hearing Idina and Kristin sing this again on the Tonys last night?
