    Dont know if you check old videos of yours, but. I was having a problem with my 2000 GMC sierra 1500 4x4. You gave me all kinds of ADVICE AND WHAT TO LOOK FOR AS TO What the problem could be as to why it wouldnt go into 4 lo. FROM THE FRONT shaft sensor, speed sensors, tone rings, etc. None of it was the problem.Learned things though. HOWEVER , I think I recall you or my brother saying WHAT was done to the vehicle fairly recently? And then after 9 months of having no 4 lo , ( 4 hi worked fine)I thought , I had installed E fans!! Sure enough, the program installed was for a 2wd!!!! Took it back to the tuner and he corrected the problem. Now all works and everything is right. Thank you for your help, it was much appreciated.

I recently installed a pump rub fix kit and went to put it all back together, laid down silicon or whatever comes in the merchant kit and I could not get the dang snap ring you describe at 42:00 in place due to my worn out case. I did a conversion like this many years ago on my 246 in a 2005 tahoe to be used with a duramax allison conversion, one thing I found was that using the input gear to mate with the allison, I got an input gear for the 263xhd, the pilot cup bearing to carry the main shaft was to large of diameter and needed to get a conversion bearing to fit the larger diameter of the input shaft and the smaller diameter of the main shaft, this would be properly support the shaft to the input gear. I didnt notice if you addressed this, is there a larger shaft for the 246hd that fits this larger input gear, or is the cup bearing the same that fits both the input gears you used?

    • @IrocinZ
      @IrocinZ  ปีที่แล้ว

      No. Physical size of the two input shafts are identical except the spline size and count. The XHD is beefier all around, as you found out...

    What is the shift pattern for this variety of np246? I am going to be manual shift swapping my 04 2500. I plan to use a posilok front differential actuator, weld the clutch pack fully engaged, and build a shifter mechanism. Do you forsee any issues besides the service 4wd message?

    • @IrocinZ
      @IrocinZ  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you have a 2500hd, it won't have the 246 transfer case. It will be a 263hd which doesn't have a clutch in it, but it does have electronic shift. They did make a manual shift version and I think it was a 261. More rare, but they're out there

      There should be a tag on the back of the case near the drain plug. It will be round and red and should say NP246 on it. If you have a 1500HD, the tag will be the same, but it will be behind a 4L80e. The input shafts will be different between the 4L60 and 4L80. Few questions... (1) You confused me a bit. I have a NP246 from a 2001 Tahoe. I want to upgrade what I can. The sun gear from the NP246 should be compatible with the 6 pinion planet right? I have a 4L60E so I need to have the right splines for that and cannot switch to that HD sun gear / input.
    (2) What are your thoughts about chains? Do you use OEM only?
    (3) The parts store doesn't carry the Autotrack fluid anymore. They said the Dextron VI will work. I hear conflicted messages on that...?

    • @IrocinZ
      @IrocinZ  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Okay, on question 1, Yes you can put a 6 pinion planetary with a 4L60e. You just need to use your input shaft from the old planetary. (2) I've never replaced a chain before as they don't usually fail. If you're wanting to go with the wider chain, you have to change both your gears. On that note, I'm not sure if the splined area of the gears are the same between the two as I have never been asked to do that upgrade. I've always just done what came factory. (3) If you use any different fluid, Use Dexron 3, not 6. The older new process transfer cases don't work well with 6, and I would use a synthetic.
