  • A friend of mine that I'm building a 4L80e for brought me his old transfer case for me to go though so when he puts his fresh transmission in, he could have a fresh transfer case too. Lets just say it didn't go as planned....

Good tear down. Thanks I had that hole in my 2004 6.0 2500 HD. I am so glad I caught it but having said that you may never know you are losing oil
because the hole is above the oil level and it only throws it out when moving. Will not show leak while parked.GM new about that pump rub issue.

Again, another great tear down even with losing the audio portion you filled it in just right. Those seals have always kicked my butt just like it did you. I wish there was a better design but it is what it is.

@22:49 that front seal can be taken out from the rear on the rear of that shaft there’s a big snap ring you take that off then flip to the outside put wood on the shaft hit with hammer through seal that snap ring you’re talking about under the seal holds the bearing onto the shaft the snap ring inside holds the shaft in the case
Once you hammer the shaft out with the bearing easily tap it through the seal flip the case over tap the seal out from the inside
Hope this helps with future tear downs

Very good and informative video. Keep up the good work. I’m curious as to would it have been more beneficial to use a vice or stand to hold the transfer case stationary to disassemble? I am currently debating on rebuilding my transfer case myself, buying a new/refurbished (don’t know if they sell new or if they are all “new” refurbs) or having a shop just rebuild it. But this definitely helps in favor of doing myself does not look difficult at all, more time consuming than anything making sure to keep track of parts and order of which they go together. Thanks for the video and keep up the good work with videos.
