It performs perfectly for everything at 1080p on high/ultra graphics settings, and I'll only upgrade when games using Unreal Engine 5 (or similar graphic engines with UE5-level graphics) come out that are truly worth it. Recently, I played A Plague Tale Requiem on high graphics at 60 fps with an FSR Mod I found online, so I really don't want to upgrade it. Plus, the economy doesn't help, haha

Liked and commenting for the almighty algorithm. I had a 5600g. Mine did 4.7GHz all core simply by clicking the Gaming mode option on in the MSI UEFI. It used less voltage than the aggressive out of box PBO settings for the B450 Tomahawk. You can also just set it to ECO mode with the +200MHz boost option for a bit of extra performance while lowering the package power. That should be an attractive option for you U.K. folks where power is more expensive than the U.S.

Interesting stuff. I find it comical how slow the memory of Pascal cards is compared to Ampere or ADA LL. Still, aside from RT and DLSS, it would seem the 1080 cards are still holding up okay. I know Pascal is not going to be supported forever though. I don't know if Pascal is worth buying now, especially with prices on Ampere getting much lower and stuff from AMD being a good price (RDNA 2 cards for example). Still impressive though.

Instead of using the old x470 motherboard, I paired the GTX 1080 with a new mATX gigabyte 550M (budget) board, and a Ryzan 5 5600G. I reused old DDR4 3200 RAM. The results? I ran cyberpunk 2077, on Ultra settings in 1080p, and got 61 FPS. In high settings, it jumped to 71 FPS. This GPU is certified beast. If tech websites and review sites were honest, they would tell us that we won't have to upgrade our GPUs for about 5 to 8 years if we buy the right one.

So what should I upgrade my cpu to - I was considering the 7900x/7800x3d purely in terms of future proofing when I can invest in a newer gpu. I usually game at 4k, dial down everything to get around 49-60 fps but most of the time it’s a struggle. So what should my upgrade path be, kindly provide some guidance

Is a good video, but the ryzen 5 5600g is a really weak cpu to pair it with the gtx 1080, you can get more performance if you pair it with a higher cpu like the i5 13600k or even i7 if you want a better build, or if you like amd i will go for a ryzen 7 5800x minimum. Also gta is a high demanding cpu game, so it depends more on the cpu than in the gpu. The 1080 is just a beast that we still have to pair it with recent cpus of the decade to get to his fullest potential.

I was just benchmarking my PC because it was weird that Horizon was quite laggy even on low. Turns out my i5-7400 and GTX 1650S produces 21.8% bottleneck which is crazy. My friend told me to check out the GTX 1080 (or -Ti) and I saw that GPU is way stronger than my current one. I'm like absolutely totally lost in today's technology 😂 The 1080 must've been a love child of nVidia because it is absolutely crazy that it even beats some GPU's that are two generations younger. I'm going to change into that one as it is better in price and would reduce my bottleneck between 0-5%.
