I remember the first time Ian helped me with the backhoe. He was so excited! I then got out of the seat and let him dig up a stump on his own. You would have thought that he was the king of the world! Great times...great memories! So now that you've done the Zip sheathing for the lower section of the house, do you think it's worth it as opposed to OSB and housewrap?
Yes, so awesome to see the kids excited about learning and mastering something new. Did the same thing with my oldest daughter when we were digging up pine stumps. She worked at digging for hours and the amazement on her face when she pulled out the stump was priceless 🤣 I don't know how the OSB will perform compared to regular house wrap, but it was convenient not to have to wrap the whole house!
I couldn't tell from the video how deep you planted the tree, but those top roots should only be a couple of inches below dirt. The root flair should be at ground level. Speaking from experience because I have killed several by planting too deep. Better to shallow than too deep. Also stake and tie. Several good videos on TH-cam how to plant trees. Good luck.
Looking awesome, as the folks with Habbat for Humanity say it's going from a house to a home. Yes,fruit trees need to pollinate with others. Honey bees are the best at doing that. Glad everyone is doing great, drink all that ice coffee you want,I am not a fan of it. God bless your family.
Thanks Rick 😊 it certainly is moving in that direction! Hopefully we can pick up some more peach trees within the next year. Also, honeybees are on next year's list for the homestead 😄
Peach tree will need plenty of water after being transplanted in this heat. Do you have a good water supply ? Sandy soil....South Carolina. or southern Ga ????
Hey there, thanks for joining us 😊 we are in Southeast Georgia, hence the heat and the sand 😀 we have a deep water Well, so between the summer rains and the Well, water won't be an issue. We plan on having the ducks and rabbits do a lot of "fertilizing" around the tree 😄
House is looking great. I pray God puts the right nourishments for the peach to get stronger and produce lots of wonderful peaches for y’all. God bless the consistent work of your hands (all y’all). 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙌👏👍
Hey folks, hope you're all doing well and Lil's feeling ok. Great to see your daughter learning new skills as part of the build, it's good that the kids will know they had a part in building the family home, makes it more special. Fingers crossed for the peach tree surviving and thriving, will be a great addition to the homestead! Have a great week all and stay safe.
Thanks, Paul! Everyone is healthy, thank God! 🙏 it is very important for us to involve the kids as much as possible! And hopefully next year we will have an abundance of delicious peaches 🍑 😋
Howdy Justin and Lil, love seeing your progress, can't go wrong with a peach tree, hope it'll make it through the transplant. Love the look of concentration, and happiness of your youngest son, as he helps you with the backhoe, it's PRICELESS, again, thanks for sharing your adventure of making your dream come true, God Bless.
Hey Donnie, thanks for joining us again this week 😊 hopefully this time next year we will be swimming in peaches! It is very important for us to involve the kids as much as possible! We are certainly making memories of a lifetime 😄
A long sleeve preferably white tee is much better than working shirtless on those really hot sunny days imo. It keeps the sun off your skin and helps reflect the light that causes that baking sensation.
Thanks for the tip! Don't have any of those right now, but shirtless beats my normal dark colored T-shirsts for now 😅 I think it's time to invest in an industrial fan and mist machine lol
Thanks Louis! It is very important for us to have the kids be involved as much as possible 😊 hopefully this time next year we will be swimming in peaches! 🍑
We don't show everything that goes on in the background, but it's a full-time job between being pregnant, homeschooling the kids, and running the homestead l, on top of the house build 😄
@@DIY_or_DIE I wasn't critizising. My old man way back when used to say WE will do something,, what he meant was ME, there fore the Royal WE, when the late Queen used to say WE it meant someone else was going to do it. It just brought back memories, please do not take offense, none was intended
Question about the zip sheeting? Why wasn’t it installed horizontal? Adds more structural support doesn’t it. I work in new construction and sheeting (not zip) is never installed vertical.
It can be installed horizontal or vertical. The structural integrity just depends on how many nails you use. If you install blocking for horizontal panels along all the long edges, than it will use the same # of fasteners as a vertical board that goes from bottom to top plate. There are some good explanations on TH-cam about this topic. Think about your typical 6" O.C. around the edges.
Not sure what winter means to you, as we are in the deep south so snow isn't a worry. It gets a bit uncomfortable to work in the cold around January, but it's still doable. We want to be dried in as soon as possible!

Thanks! The tap roots were probably about 6-8 inches deep. Hopefully, it will be able to survive!
That’s amazing, guys !
Thanks! 😊
i really enjoy watching your video s . i wish that they were longer

I think the best part was you letting the little guy help dig , God bless you and your family.
That was most certainly his favorite part 🤣
Love how high you have built the house up off the ground. So many people have lost their home to flooding. Great job with the piers!
Thanks for joining us this week! Yes, the height also makes for a gorgeous landscape view from inside the house 😊

Thanks for joining us again this week Andrew. Hopefully next year we will be swimming in peaches 🍑
@@DIY_or_DIE lets hope so
Give the peach tree a few more trees so the peach tree will thrive I learned growing up to plant in pairs when it came to fruit trees
We will have to find it a sibling tree! 😊

Thanks for joining us from Singapore! God bless you 🙏
Where do you stay when not working on the house? Were you able to put a trailer on your property now?
We've been living in our RV on the property for just over a year.
Love the video. Can’t wait for rafters. Coming along so good. Pray the tree makes it.
Thanks for joining us! Yes, we are excited to move on to rafters as well 😀

House is looking great. Ive heard good things about the zip system.
Thanks! So far it has worked great, but time will tell 🤷♂️
So do you have the roof trusses yes , if not are building them your self because it is a lot of work
No trusses, we will be building the rafters ourselves!
Got to love that " WE are doing some taping" LOL That would be the Royal we?
Everything is a team effort here! 😄
I know, you went and made ice coffee, one does what they can!

@@DIY_or_DIE thanks for the response. The place is looking great. 👍
Thanks for joining us! Can't wait to get that roof on 😄
Find a way to shade the tree 0r it won't make it put a tarp or tent over it plenty of water
Thanks for the advice!
