This is a drum cover (or remix) of Breaking Benjamin's AWESOME song, The Diary of Jane.
This was SOOOO much fun to do, i absolutely love the band and this is one of my favorites from Phobia. Was also really cool to be able to use the electronic pads to trigger a closed hihat sound while i could do the doublebass groove on the bottom. Fun fun fun :) Nice and heavy aswell.. contrary to popular belief, i LOVE heavy stuff.
I have to emphasize, I know calling this a "cover" is wrong, seeing as I only PARTLY stayed true to the song's drums (or lack thereof), through the WHOLE song i play some variations of the beats, phrasing and fills, since 99% of what i play is improvised. Even though i have done my fair share of session and studio drumming, that has little to zero effect on these video's, I kind of see them as live performances. I'm NOT aiming to be accurate to the original drums, I'm just aiming to enjoy myself. And I thoroughly succeeded in doing that, might I add :)

1:40 that fucking snare fill, simple but oh my!
Granted I haven't seen too many comments about it recently but I have before.. so just to clarify: This song is NOT easy on drums. Chad Szeliga is a very intricate drummer. More than you may realize. Granted, Cobus is playing his own rendition of the song, I'd like to point out that when Chad played the song, he used a single pedal. For everything. The verses and bridge are all single pedal. Also, he does combinations of the ride, ride bell and hi-hats in the bridge too. And, in the verses, his fills are much more technical then one would first assume. As a huge fan of Chad, and a fan of Cobus, I felt that I had to explain that. Also, on a side note... Breaking Benjamin is back!

Michael Gaffney I read something similar some time ago, that Chad indeed played this track with a single bass pedal. That alone is amazing! I agree that the song is more complex than it may sound. Great news that they're back, didn't know they stopped playing or anything. Can't wait for new material!

I've seen a lot of your videos but for some reason this seems to still be my favorite. Possibly because I love this song.. Most likely because of your fluidity through this whole song, it just seems to flow so naturally through you to your drum set like it's an extension of you. LOVE IT!!!

If he ever starts smiling constantly and singing along to the song, then I will probably cry with excitement because ive never heard a drummer play with so much emotion and passion, and ive gone through a lot of drummers. The tricks he does, the fills, the intensity...its awesome. Then again, i saw the drum duet and the other guy made him sound like a kid. Hes amazing, but i see why hes still trying to get better and better :)

Cobus is an amazing drummer. I've been watching him since the start of TH-cam and has been following him very closely along my drumming journey these few years.
The Diary Of Jane is also one of my favorites that I've always wanted to play as a beginner but found a lot of trouble doing it.
