Hi George nice video, I bought my discus from Jack Wattley, love the Costomer service I received. In the original order they forgot two fish have spoken to Gabe, waiting for my remaining two fish to arrive. Keep up the good work.
George, Thankyou for the information. Interestingly enough I at one time I had a 150 6 foot tank. I had 5 discus and after a few days of putting them in all mayhem broke out. You make sense. I am down to a empty 90 gallon tank that has cycled(but not introducing Discus for another couple months). For a 90 gallon what would be an ideal number of Discus 5-5.5 inches?
Comfortably I would say 7-9 (I like Odd #'s) We need to talk on the 10th and get you started on a cleanup crew for that tank. Some Cory's, Siamese algae eaters Etc.
What if I’m starting fresh with a brand new tank and only have 1 size about a 55gal to a 65 gal. Can I put about 5 to 6 discus in that to start if they are small and the grow into it ?
Yes 5 would work but it must be a well seasoned , well cycled well established tank. You must do 2-3 1/4 to 1/2 water changes a week. There are great systems made by Hygger or Python that are not expensive and work great. Put a lot of thought in it and watch my videos on the subjects that might help you. Good luck. Thank you. It's ok to just keep 2-4 small fish together? I have 9 babies that are 2.5-3 inches long. I only want to keep 3 to grow out and put with my adult group, but was nervous if I sold off the other 6 that just 3 babies together wouldn't be happy
Are we talking Discus Fish here ? If you are that tank will work for 4-5 2.5-3” Discus but they Will outgrow a 29 in 6 months or less. You will also need to do daily water changes.
@@aquaticconceptsbringingwaterto yes F1 wild discus. I have been doing daily 100% water changes. I was wondering if I whittled the group down to 3 if they would be unhappy about their numbers being too few (I've noticed the babies like to school together).
@@aquaticconceptsbringingwaterto yes, wild F1 baby discus. In your video you mention keeping as few as 3-4 young fish together in a smaller tank. I was wondering if with a group of just three, if they would feel uncomfortable about not being in a larger group? I notice the babies like to school together.

A great video as always my friend. I really love all the #shorts you have posted lately as well.
I have been trying to fill in the gaps with #shorts and with good results.
Thanks for the tips
Such a great video full of much needed information. I actually have been doing this for a while now. Thank you as always.
I have said this in several videos over the years but thought it was time to make a complete video on the subject.
Spot on again! Thank you.
Thank you.
This totally makes since. Similar to a grow out tank.
Exactly!
Great content. Something to think about when I get my next Discus order .
Again, This only applies to smaller Juveniles 2-4 inches to get them off to a great start.
Thank you George. You have helped me so much over the years. I don't raise Discus anymore, but apply a lot of what you talk about to my Angelfish .
So much of this does apply to the Discus Cousin.

Great information. I have heard this several times in the past but never really knew why. Thanks for explaining it in detail!
You are welcome. Most want to add them to an existing tank even I the sizes are completely different. A good way to stunt new tank members.
Great video. You forgot to tell us how many times we can feed them daily.

This guy is a complete genius when it comes to darn near anything regarding Discus or Fish keeping in general.
He has taken calls from me as well. You can't put a price on knowledge and patience.
Thank you Marty

George, I have a large cycled tank. Can I take water from the cycled tank to put into a 20 gal tank for juvenile discus?
