    I got my discus from a great seller. Always the same supplier but I bought them in three separate occasions because I had a bad experience and didn’t want to invest so much money all at once. One isn’t growing at the same rate. It eats well, looks healthy. Never been sick. He’s just bit smaller; maybe half to 3/4 inch smaller. I always buy fish that are similar in size, I don’t buy smaller than those in the tank. They all swim about the same amount so he’s not getting more exercise. 🤷🏼‍♀️

      There can be so many factors involved here. Is he intimidated at feeding time? DNA disorder for growth, Sometimes even a small stomach disorder at birth. It can mean anything. If you like the fish and its color and behaviors then keep it for those reasons.

    That was a great video, my friend. I had no idea that Stunting was caused by growth depression due to larger fish being IN THE TANK WITH THE SMALLER FISH? Makes Sense.

    Would live foods such as daphnia and brine shrimp be a good option to feed with different sized Discus? The live food will roam the tank and will probably be in the best interest of smaller fish

    • @aquaticconceptsbringingwaterto
      @aquaticconceptsbringingwaterto  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Live foods such as these are very small for anything but Discus fry. Your other fish will love it though.

    I like your disco display think. I’m planning to buy six new discuses all 6 inch in size. I have 150 gal setup ( 110 gal + 40 sump). It’s establish for about eight months they are 22 Rummy-nose tetras and 15 Sterb’s corydoras. The question for you is that should I be worried if I introduce all six discuses into the tank at the same time about the ammonia spike?

    • @aquaticconceptsbringingwaterto
      @aquaticconceptsbringingwaterto  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not if your tank is well established! Do you have a Canister Filter? Also feed very slowly small amounts when first introducing your fish.

    • @agatagoss6444
      @agatagoss6444 ปีที่แล้ว

      No we dont have canister filter. Our sump contains K1 and a lot of bio media. We dont have any amonnia in this tank. What do you mean iby Well establish tank?

    This is great video... one of the most “sober” I found so far. I have a question... I’m still in the process of setting up my tank and I go with exactly the same idea you mentioned at the beginning of the video... hardscape now done... now as a next step planning to buy the “service crew”. You mentioned at the video to be slow on this. How long you recommend I wait with my discus after I put my corys, otocinclus and plecos in?

    • @aquaticconceptsbringingwaterto
      @aquaticconceptsbringingwaterto  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No pleco if you have plants. Slowly monitor your water parameters after adding cleanup crew and message me when you are ready to buy your Discus

      They will re-Landscape parts of your tank. I don’t mind the albino Bristle nose. But even they can do damage.

    • @adamchilinski6149
      @adamchilinski6149 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi @@aquaticconceptsbringingwaterto … cleaning crew went in two weeks ago… water parameters monitored daily… not a trace of ammonia, nitrites or nitrates… water changed twice a week (Wednesday and Saturday… fits my schedule). All looking very promising. Going this weekend to buy 8 discus… from identified breeder… all are already in the same tank so should be adjusted.

    • @aquaticconceptsbringingwaterto
      @aquaticconceptsbringingwaterto  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sounds like you are doing great! Although your Discus have lived together in the same tank previously, I would still expect a little territorial fighting the first few days. This is very normal when the landscape has changed and the fish will re establish a pecking order. Nothing to worry about. Nice to hear things are going as planned and all your water parameters are stable. You could get a spike in Ammonia at first but you may not at all. Add stability for a few days with prime from Seachem just as a precaution. It won’t hurt anything, but certainly can be helpful. Keep updating me. Thanks!

    Do the discus get scared from flashing images on TVs?

    • @aquaticconceptsbringingwaterto
      @aquaticconceptsbringingwaterto  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I try to raise my Discus from a very young age to be around all the normal activities they will have in life. This makes for stronger young fish who will grow into mature adults who are not as skittish or afraid. I have never had an issue. You will only make your life more difficult. Clean water, lots of different foods, and a proper size tank will make these fish thrive.

    Great video. On my last order of discus I ordered 6 fish that were supposed to be 5-5.5 inches and received 2 that were about 3.5 inches. I called the owner in a calm manner and told him of the situation and all I got was hostility claiming “ I DON’T SELL STUNTED FISH!”. In our conversation I realized he wasn’t going to make things right. I just ended up keeping the small ones and put them in a 20 gallon cycled tank for quite some time. I was especially surprised because on You Tube interviews he seemed calm and kept saying he has a money back guarantee. Do you know how I might have approached the situation a better way? Thanks

      Some people in this business will make claims to be honest and stand by their shipments and you find out very quickly. Sorry, you had that experience. Over time he will go out of business. Let nature run its course. I have no problem with that. Out him or her. That is how they learn. Money talks .... very loudly. Use the guys I have pinned above and you will be very happy you did and so will all of us.

    I have no experience with Discus
    For the past 6 months I had a community tank with 3 types of tetras, guppies, corydoras, algae eaters, snails and stopped doing water changes.
    I only did top offs. I noticed that i had less problems with fish suddenly dying than when i did water changes. Could have been temperature shock or just a big change in water parameters. I will never know and probably never try and find out since I wont be doing water changes.
    I am curious how my Discus will fare by trying to keep an aquarium as natural as possible (think substrate, plants and not feeding too much polluting foods like beef hearts)

    • @aquaticconceptsbringingwaterto
      @aquaticconceptsbringingwaterto  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would not recommend that system, but if you have had success it is your tank, your money, and your freedom to do what you want. Good luck.
