    I use a big C clamp to push in and hold the rim lock while I pop on the last bit.

    I use a bead buddy and soap to lube bead. Vaseline for the mousse.

    Is that Mike's Stand bolted to the floor? Excellent video -- very useful. Thanks.

      It is not because my floors are heated with water pipes, thermal heating, but it would work better if it was.

    Where are the links to the products you used in the video? I am interested in that silicon lube. I have some tire lube in a spray can. But I thought if I can get it in a spray squirt bottle it would be cheaper. And more product.

    Please do a video on what you think of the mousse vs tubliss. I currently run tubliss but have been curious about a soft mousse like this. Thanks.

    • @EddiNice
      @EddiNice 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      onzalimey Phillips I ran tubliss amd they are rubbish for hard enduro races, for anything else they are fine. Also tubliss are better because you can adjust the pressure, whereas on mouses you cant.

    • @jetmuchacho
      @jetmuchacho 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I found with tubliss they weren't anything special for racing beause I had to run them at least 13psi to keep from bottoming out the rims against logs and rocks all the time. Same pressure I run in tubes.

      I run 8.5 front and 4.5 rear currently with thick sidewall tires and I love them. The traction is ridiculous it’s like cheating. Only reason I would run mousse is the no flat thing

    Is there a dot on the tire that you line up with the rim lock so the tire can be balanced easier ? I know on street tires the manufacturers add a dot where the lightest part of the tire is so you can line it up with the valve stem .

    • @slaverace1
      @slaverace1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not dots on dirt tires.

    During the video you said that you would show at the end of the video you would show how to add lube to the mousse without taking off the tire (at 2:08 in the video). You didn't cover it at the end of the video. Could you show or explain how you do this? Thank you!

    Just did my first Mousse w/ a Rabaconda... something that nobody mentions on install videos... when mounting a stiff tire like a Kenda Parker DT, the bead absolutely will not seat with Mousse, not with air, not with spinning on your bike in 6th gear on a stand, nada. The last resort and what the Neutech people will tell you is just mount the wheel and go ride it and the bead "should" seat itself after several minutes of riding. Mousse and stiff tires are not a great combination, IMHO.

    Jeff, would you rather have the soft mousse up front or the standard? I’m thinking of going to mousses from tubliss, but I’m unsure on the front. Of course I want the soft out back, but the front I’m unsure of. I’m running the m5b front and with it being a softer tire I’m thinking the standard but am not totally sure. Any input would be appreciated. I ride a lot of single track. Fast, slow, really ride it all.

    • @slaverace1

      I have a friend who never seems to get beyond 2nd gear so we call him "2 speed". For him a plushie front works well but most guys prefer the standard up front and plushie in the rear.

    • @Drewski423
      @Drewski423 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@slaverace1 well that made my decision. I’ll definitely have a standard up front. I love tubliss but I need a spare set of wheels with bibs in them for certain places/rides.

      @@slaverace1 I got my nitros installed yesterday. In the end I went with the standard front and the soft rear. Man….I tried them briefly a while back and these new ones have a whole lot better feel than the other set I tried. Those seemed to be hard as a brick. These have more of a “broken in” feel right out of the box. Super impressed.

    • @slaverace1
      @slaverace1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The tire will slip on the rim because mousses don't provide enough bead pressure.

    how often should you re-lubricate the mousse?

    • @slaverace1
      @slaverace1  ปีที่แล้ว

      Alec: Good question. On my dirt bike, I don't re-lube between tire changes because I change tires at 300-400 miles. On my dual sport bike I use higher mileage tires and re-lube around 800 miles.

    One rim lock is enough with a mousse?

  • @Deganus100
    @Deganus100 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You don´t wanna use silicon grease to lube tire bead, because it wont get dry. Tire can pop up from the wheel. Installing new mousse and tight tire with that stand will be very hard, Rabaconda-style stands are better.

    • @slaverace1
      @slaverace1  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The method in the video works very well and is time tested or I would not have shown it. The tire does NOT pop and the rim lock keeps it from rotating. Rabaconda tire machine slavensracing.com/shop/3-minute-tiremousse-changer-rabaconda is superior to the Mikes machine.

      To each their own but UHD tubes are very heavy and downgrade the suspension performance and overall handling.

      Black rims are easily scratched when installing tires or when riding. We have tools to protect the rim but if your that worried about scratches, leave your bike parked in the garage and chrome everything.

    Shame, slaves videos are normally good..
    Theres easier ways to fit mouses...this stand is not great...get one with a bead breaker...it aids the final few pull s on the tyre lever

    • @slaverace1
      @slaverace1  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Mikes stand used in the video has a bead breaker. We chose not to use it as it is NOT needed and I always try to show methods that don't require a bunch of special tools/equipment. If you want the best mousse installation tool, get the Rabaconda slavensracing.com/shop/3-minute-tiremousse-changer-rabaconda/
