I did the AEV on my 20’ Gladiator and I immediately noticed improvement in throttle response and gained 1-1.5 mpg. These stock intakes on the Jeeps are very restrictive on the intake inlet side. Very difficult to dyno verify this but I noticed a performance gain, especially at highway speeds.
It looks so cool and I was so nervous during the cutting part and bitten my nails during the whole process 😅😅 but it comes out looking great👏🏼👏🏼🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you for this awesome video! I have learned more from this simple instructional video than others I have seen where they talk excessively and finished more confused than when I started. Keep this format going, IT WORKS!!! You took a Jeep that looks good to a level that looks even better.
Great video, any concerns of driving with snorkel in the heavy rain? Does the snorkel drain the water somewhere before it goes to the air-box? Thank you!
Yeah, I hear ya. I got anxiety thinking about it. The kit had a really good template to follow though, and I took my time cutting. I don't know what a hood would cost but I kinda have to agree it probably isn't cheap. It would also be really embarrassing. Thanks for watching.
Nice install. For the JK i like the one piece AEV snorkel much better. But im not a JL fan either. Wanted a jeep for years and when i seen the changes coming i got one of the last 2018 JKs. Love to see what AEV does for the JL.
Thank you for watching. I have really not noticed any additional noise from the snorkel. It did loosen up from the wind shield once slightly but it was an easy fix.
Is there a way to fasten the upper snorkel better to the body? Mine keeps pulling loose from the sticky tape. Used numerous different kinds of glue/tape. Im thinking of riviting it in. Any advice?
Great video, my thought about this is it should help with your MPG. The reason I say this is the JLUR gets unreal hot under the hood. I had installed two 40Amp Circuit breakers for my ARB twin air compressor and their thermal protection kept tripping. We figured this out by pouring ice cold water on them to get them to work. I ended up going back to the max fuses that come with the compressor.
You might be right. Yes, it gets REAL hot under the hood. Seems like they should have added more ventilation. I will let you know if it helps. Thanks for watching.
Very nice thank you for sharing. Debating between this intake and the Hauk Expedition Intake. I don’t plan to submerge my Jeep but want the ability to run deeper creek crossing in the pursuit of buried treasure.
Love the color of your JL. Looks fantastic. Cutting the hood would be totally nerve wracking for me....but I suppose I would do it myself, MAYBE. Thx for sharing brother man.
Great install video. Looks good. I just installed the rugged ridge snorkel on my JK. It’s design had snorkel go thru window cowl and behind fender. More of a pain to install but it turned out nice. Grabbing the cooler air from outside must be helping my MPGs. I went from getting 14mpg to 15+mpg. Not bad. Lol.
Nice! I saw something like that on a SEMA video for the JL too, don't think it is out yet. Jeeps really do have a hot engine bay problem. Thanks for watching.
Yes and no. Technically the kit would prevent you from doing so, however, all you have to do is take out the one bolt on the top side where it mounts to the support. Because presumably you would be going kinda slow with the windshield down wind wont be a factor.
I will post an update shortly with the result to this question. In a nutshell, it was designed to attach to the pillar thus preventing the windshield from folding down. However, there is one screw that you could disconnect to allow it to separate. Given that you are not going to put the windshield down on the highway, I think the snorkel will be stable without that screw. You can then reattach when the windshield is raised back up. I am going to test this. Thanks for watching.
The limiting factor in the Jeep JL really is all of the electronics. Gas engines in particular due to the spark system don't like water much. The axles and drivetrain have wading tubes so they are not the big issue. The snorkel will help as it considerably raises the intake where the air comes from. The stock system drew the air from near the front fender which would be subjected to splashing and bow wave even in shallow crossings. Thanks for watching.
@@jimlayhey1965 yeah, the new version significantly cut weight out by replacing much of the body with aluminum. The doors are so much lighter than the JK too.
Sorry, I didn't put the link in the description but did put it in the video. I got it from All Mopar Parts .Com. It was $611 and it is the Mopar Jeep JL Snorkel kit. Awesome video! I want this intake but also want to be able to drop the windshield. Do you think it’d be sturdy enough without the A frame mount? Thanks!
Well, I just looked at the Jeep and you bring up a very good point. I will have to check that out once warmer weather hits, I think the way to go might be to attach the intake per the installation instructions and then when folding the wind shield down you could unscrew the bolt holding the bracket to the intake and the bracket will fold down too. My best guess is, yes the intake will be sturdy enough- since you won't be going highway speeds with the wind shield down. We will see... thanks for watching.
Yes, there is a 2.5 inch lift on the Jeep with 37 inch tires. Assessing whether I like this or not- might increase it slightly as there is a bit of tire rub under heavy articulation. Thanks for watching.
Drive The Globe hey just curious which lift kit you use ? I put the 2.5 mopar lift with fox shocks. It’s my first time using fox shocks and I like them - exactly like a factory ride . My jk I put a 5.7 hemi and it was a monster but wanted the new one bad so parted with it.
Great video !! very well demonstrated !! just 3 questions , the air box you installed the second time , is it the original air box or is it the air box that comes along with the snorkel kit ? If it is the original air box , kindly show a demonstration on how you fixed the attachment to the air box , I mean't the cutting of the air box to fix the attachment. Second question ,those air plug holes only should be closed during the water crossing time only ?? and the rest of the time , usually on normal on road should it be kept open ?? And finally the third question , by doing this will not the warranty from the agency get void ??
The airbag that is reinstalled is the original one from the Jeep and does not come with the kit. There is no cutting of the box, the attachment piece fits over the old opening and fastens with a clamp. The plugs are to be used only during heavy water crossings and not on a normal basis. When on road the plugs remain out so that any rain water or condensation will drain without going into the filter. My understanding is that since this is a genuine Jeep part from Mopar that it does NOT void the warranty. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
So far so good. I have only taken the Jeep off road a couple of times- nothing serious yet. Seems to have a nice approach angle and it is definitely well built. Thanks for watching.
How well do you think this snorkel by Mopar matches against ones produced and installed by AEV and other companies? I get that they all function the same, but is there any real difference that you know of? Super informative video, thank you for this!
Thanks for watching. I have not noticed any significant difference between the various options out there. I did have the AEV one on a prior JK model Jeep.
Hah. Getting the two large snorkel pieces together at that rubber gasket was the hardest part of my install. I thought cutting the hood was going to be the most difficult, but it really wasn't. However, I'm not entirely confident that the 3M tape, regardless of using small vice grips to clamp it down, is the best way to really seal that outer trim piece, though. I plan on getting some dark grey or black silicon and doing just a real light squeeze in between them for that extra piece of mind.
I agree!!! Not sure about the 3M tape either. I will probably fortify it with something as well. At first putting those 2 snorkel pieces together seemed easy until I realized they weren't really fully together... or I cut the hole in the wrong place! Luckily they just needed a really solid smack. Thanks for watching.
You will do great!! Just measure twice and cut once. Make sure you don't use a cutting wheel that is too big and take great care not to go through both aluminum skins of the hood as the cut sizes are different. Let me know how it goes, congrats on the Jeep.@@boknowsyoutube

Do they recommend putting some touch up paint on the bare metal after cutting and drilling to prevent rust before installing the trim pieces ?
Hood is aluminum. It won't rust.
Phil is correct, the hood is aluminum- although Jeep still suggests touch up paint in their directions. I did skip that in my install.
