Yes, for heaveaven's sake, why should a school be able to set rules about what kids look like or what they wear, or for that matter how they behave? Schools have no right to have rules! That is barbaric!
@KING BLACK PANTHER 9000 if you want to, for example, drive a car, you get a license. It's a rule. If you want to graduate from this school you follow their rules. It's that simple. Not everyone is trolling and implying such just because others dont share your view is very immature. Someday he will be offered a job and refuse it for the same reasons. Then he can play with his hair and we will pay his way through life.
@KING BLACK PANTHER 9000 It is stated in the video that the length of the hair is the problem not the style. Also, if the child has the right to do anything he wants with his hair, why cant the school have rights to do what they think is best for their students. I am married to a black woman and have 2 kids with her. Her and her family have had dreads and I like the style. I will also teach my kids to obey rules and be successful. Their hair length will come in second when deciding their future. Professional men will almost always have neat, short hair. I would like to see this boy grow up to be president of our country someday but he's off to a bad start if his hair length is so important that it will hinder him in high school. It's not always about what we can do, sometimes it's about what we should do. There will always be people with frivolous lawsuits trying to cash in.
@KING BLACK PANTHER 9000 He should be focused on learning and he's decided to take a stand on a haircut. Just silly. Unfortunately, our laws sometimes support this behavior. That's why when I go to the front desk in my local hospital there is a woman sitting there with purple hair. However, there are no professionals with purple hair in the hospital such as doctors, nurses, or office staff. Maybe they legally could fight to have purple hair but they choose focus on being professional instead.
@soli Sanchez they have bigger things to worry about not his hair like seriously how is that rule going to help them when something bad happens?I bet you they have people violenting the dress code and getting away with it every day.
@soli Sanchez By your logic it seems that education and safty isn't important. He's been at that school for 4 years and im pretty sure there are other students with longer hair that will be able to walk. Also there are kids wanting to hurt other kids and this is what they are worried about. Education and safety is more important than hair kid.
@soli Sanchez lol He kept his hair up when in school and maybe that made them so mad that they AMENDED the dress code in December to say, it didn't matter if your hair was up or down it had to be a specific length. He was following the dress code until they changed it 🤷🏾♀️ sounds suspect to me
you do know there are reasons why certain hair cuts are banned right? like being able to hide contraband inside yo weave or dreads or afro, ect. rules exist for a reason, why don't you do your homework before you project out of anger.
@@b1bbscraz3y its wrong to target him like this. If there is any other student of any race or gender in the school with hair this long who is allowed to walk, this is WRONG. Correct. These codes are common throughout Texas and probably I would assume much of the deep south. They apply to white boys and black boys. There are different religions that don't allow you to even cut your hair. people are culturally different. What then? That's why you have to have diversity when making decisions like this.
When I was in High School, Will Smith & Kid n Play were very popular in the late 1980's. One guy in my English class had about a 4" top with shaved sides. He had the Batman symbol trimmed into both sides of his head one time. On another occasion, the word "BUSY" was carved in the back of his head. I sat behind him every day in class for weeks & whenever I looked up, there was BUSY or Batman staring me in the face. Point is, hair styles change. The kid from my class was a straight A & B student. His hair did not affect his attitude, behavior, & wasn't a distraction to me, the other kids, nor any teacher I knew that had him in their class. (Side Note: I was a nerd in High School so I knew a lot of the teachers.) My high school also had a hair & dress code ... but it was well established *before* school started so everyone knew the rules & what was expected. Changing the rules 3/4 of the way into the school year is suspicious at best & a dirty backstab towards the students at worst (in my opinion). And some people wonder why some kids don't respect their teachers & those in positions of authority.
@Cyndi Rothrock - Hopefully, now that there's news coverage & the family has an attorney, the school board would think twice about pulling BS like this again .... especially when they lose a discrimination lawsuit against them.
I can see that it is most definitely not a racial issue. It's the school board being too strict with their dress code and this family buying into the racial divide after not reading the school dress code. That said, thee Superintendent comparing the length of their hair to going to school in just your underwear is absolutely ridiculous. The length of their hair is completely irrelevant to the learning environment and should not be treated like it is.
They knew the dress code before he started the school and failed to comply! Just because you're black doesn't mean you don't have to follow the rules! If anything they porposly grew it long after the fact so they could yell racism!
The rule was amended this past dec in the middle of the school year so the young man didn't know... why amended in middle of school year??? Why not before school year started or ended????
1. They changed the rules in December. He was perfectly in line with the dress code for years before that. 2. Black hair doesn't work like Caucasian hair, it doesn't lay flat it forms an afro. If he cut his hair to the inches required by the code it would still be the exact same size as when he puts his dreads up on his head as he does every day for school. He'd have to buzz his hair to nearly stubble to get a profile, size, and shape consistent with what white boys do. Dreads, braids, and twists were created specifically to keep black hair neat and out of the way. 3. The idea that only girls have long hair is really dumb and really sexist. Neat and clean should be the only real issues. If girls can wear their hair long, piled in buns on their head, or flowing down past their shoulders then so should men.

How did he get that far with his hair like that only now to have an issue? Oh, a change in policy! Did they base it solely on him. Are they asking females with long natural hair to cut it? A lot of ppl see long hair to be child like unprofessional then cut their hair when they want to look more sophisticated. So if this school is looking at image, mainly their image than ask all the women to cut their hair to a bob and the boys get a fade. Oh but that would upset everyone, well just focus on dreads, not the look but the length. If we know the double speak of some white ppl, we also know if he could chop all of that boys hair off he would. Dreadlocks grow that’s the point of them to grow them out nice and long, cut them? That defeats the whole purpose of growing them out for so many years. You get to the longest length and told cut them for one day to walk across a stage. Never mind all the good grades and hard work, but it’s your hair, it breaks a NEW school policy. The F@$& out of here! Anytime they don’t like something they make up a new rule and call it a policy. Kids are violated all the time and they can’t make up policies as to how to treat them when all they want is respect. I’m glad his parents stand behind him on this. Switch schools if they won’t change, he’ll still graduate and that school will just have a really bad reputation, that’s all that will always stick with it!
In what part of America can you control the LENGTH of someone's hair when it's clean & he doesn't work with food?? My hair is a part of my heritage & culture, not a part of my outfit, so it does not fall under dress codes smh
Most, unfortunately. Public and private sector if you are employed and not independent, with a few recent exceptions. I remember hearing women complain about their natural hair being cut in the millitary, around 2007 ish. That's changed, you'll see some with long braids now. And states still have schools that police female natural hair, primarily. You can find examples on TH-cam.

Wow, I didn't know cutting your hair was a pre-requisite to graduating from HS and doing your graduation ceremony? This school district is crazy.
Yes, for heaveaven's sake, why should a school be able to set rules about what kids look like or what they wear, or for that matter how they behave? Schools have no right to have rules! That is barbaric!
Every school and job has rules. They agreed to them when the enrolled. They should stick to the agreement they made upon enrollment and grow up.
A dress code should not even consider telling someone how to wear there hair stay in yo lane
The funny part is, he would probably meet a professor in college with double the length in dreadlocks. I can almost guarantee that.

@soli Sanchez they have bigger things to worry about not his hair like seriously how is that rule going to help them when something bad happens?I bet you they have people violenting the dress code and getting away with it every day.

Seems stupid to cause a lot of upset over soneones hair style. Im from CO and at my school we were allowed to have whatever hairstyle we wanted and autonomy was fine. 30year rule someone always has to be the one to push the rules and blame racism
He's had the same hair style since 7th grade and it was never a problem UNTIL they modified the rule in December! That's ~6 months until graduation and now he has to go to the office once a week. If it's not racism, it's still discrimination!
@@reedee5561 yeah they're discriminating because he has long hair, not much of a discrimination when they literally made it a school rule. I can agree though, they should have implemented the new school rule the next year, but they decide this year.
Well, nobody is walking this year. Ms. Corona shut it all down.
If this isn't a private school, then there should be no issues. Period.
I love his locks please keep your beautiful locks 🙏💜👍
...until you see a rat stick its head out. Yeah, I'm trolling.
Now I dont think its a racist thing due to the fact that its hair length and not style if he started his dreads in the 7th grade they probably didnt reach the length thats not allowed until his 11th or 12th year but the rule of long hair shouldnt be allowed anyway I went to a predominantly white school (I have shoulder length dreadlocks as well) and a lot of the white guys have real long hair it doesnt make sense why anything natural should be banned
Good! Sue the damn school district!
Yeah let’s take away one of the most important qualifications for him to get a job in the first place his HS Diploma. His hair is the last thing they should be worrying about
His hair is gross
Crystal thanks for the clarification but still that’s an experience he’ll probably never get to do. Diploma or not
HS Diploma or not, he'll never make more than min Wage with that hair.
Might as well drop out and get into the work force before the rest of his class.
Work experience on a resume is a good thing
My job told me I had an exotic hair cut and I had to change it. I had a two on the sides and I slicked it back not touching my neck. Rules are rules. Besides it was probably a privet school.
Uncle Fjester okay
What does the length of your hair have to do with graduation? The superintendent is ignorant and definitely racist. He is walking on a fine line.
(Side Note: I was a nerd in High School so I knew a lot of the teachers.)
My high school also had a hair & dress code ... but it was well established *before* school started so everyone knew the rules & what was expected. Changing the rules 3/4 of the way into the school year is suspicious at best & a dirty backstab towards the students at worst (in my opinion). And some people wonder why some kids don't respect their teachers & those in positions of authority.
Very suspicious..
@Cyndi Rothrock - Hopefully, now that there's news coverage & the family has an attorney, the school board would think twice about pulling BS like this again .... especially when they lose a discrimination lawsuit against them.
Got damn shame we have to pass a law on HAIR. If he was blond haired blue eyed with a pony tail wouldn't be a issue.
.
.
Found the racist!
It’s a bully issue
They did the same on my son
He’s white
Your white son had dreadlocks?
Jackson Heathen
Long hair and a pony tail
Had been saving it 4years for a hair for cancer group

Wow. When will stupidity this end?
@Cyndi Rothrock it's " you're raising NOT YOUR!!!
@@jacksonheathen2092 lmao u thought....then come to find out hes a angle who donates his hair. Nice try tho
"Porposly". Y'all can abort this comment this dude dumb.
@@secretghostgirl3124 "purposely" no one has ever made a typo of this magnitude! At least you read it and that's all you have on the subject sad really sad
@@secretghostgirl3124 This dude is dumb.
I really didn't know this was a thing. I got such a mixed school, Latinos, blacks, whites, a few asians, and even middle eastern people. So I'm just so used to seeing everyone with different colors and different cultures. I live in a small international city. I just never knew people actually had to deal with this
How did he get that far with his hair like that only now to have an issue?
Wow and you think making a long rant about it on a TH-cam comment section will change anything. Seems like a waste of time.
I'm glad that the teenager is standing his ground!
School: We want you guys to express yourselves creatively.
Me: *Grows Hair Longer*
School: You can’t do that, go to the principles office
In what part of America can you control the LENGTH of someone's hair when it's clean & he doesn't work with food?? My hair is a part of my heritage & culture, not a part of my outfit, so it does not fall under dress codes smh
Heritage and culture really mean nothing this day and age. That's the globalist agenda.
