    In the beginning, I thought the little girl had a ballet dance or something similar at school, when it showed it was actually to bring her mom home, my god, I cried.

    It is so cool to finally see the mother be darker than the father. The mother is usually always lighter so this is so beautiful. I love this short so much.

    • @phoney2627
      @phoney2627 ปีที่แล้ว +295

      Yeah it's both colorism and sexism when the woman is always lighter than the man. It's done because lighter skin is seen as more beautiful than dark skin and because people believe that in a relationship the woman should be the better looking one. But in reality dark skin is very beautifu. And in addition to that the woman doesn't always have to be "the better looking one" (not to say that the mom here doesn't look beautiful, she's absolutely stunning).

    Dad learns how important hair is to people and how to have patience to style his daughter’s properly, Mom gains the confidence to rock the bald look like the warrior queen she is, and let’s not forget how absolutely precious the little girl is throughout the entire thing.

    • @girl1213
      @girl1213 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      I think he already knew the importance of hair: he certainly did his own and he married a hair stylist who makes TH-cam videos to help other women style their hair. The problem he was having was it was likely he learned how to do his hair from his own mother rather than his father. Hair styling to him was something children bond over with their mothers, not their fathers.
      And men don't use the same amount of hair care products as women do (we've seen the his/her comparison pictures on the Internet). So it was no wonder he was overwhelmed when he looked at his daughter's desk full of hair-care products and nope-d.
      In the end, he simply didn't know what to do or how to do it. He knew it was important to Zuri, but lack of confidence held him back. That's why he needed to hear his wife's words and realize he's not the only one who feels that way and that's why his wife made her channel in the first place. Not just for the women, but the men as well. Especially since they already traveled down a rough road and made it out alright (his wife's cancer) and that's how they can support her in her recovery.

    This brought back some memories for me. When I was very young (4 or 5) my mom's legs got crushed and broken in a bad car accident. While she was in the hospital my dad had to do my sister's hair. Of course he had it looking jacked and when we went to visit my mom she saw my sister's hair and started laughing. My dad and I had to go to the store and buy a list of hair products so my mom could redo my sister's hair right there in her hospital room. She was in pain, her legs had metal braces and pins in them and she could barely move but she still fixed my sister's hair and had my dad take detailed notes. By the time my mom was discharged a month later my dad's hair skills were almost as good as hers.

    I totally loved the animation, it took me back to childhood times. In my opinion, this kind of animation is nowadays very rare. I appreciate that it still hasn´t disappeared from cinematography. The story was emotional. The way Zuri gave Angela a picture of her without hair was so lovely and touching. It shows no matter, how she looks, her daughter will always love her. I really enjoyed this short animated film.

    Everything about this touched my heart! Firstly the little girl looks sooo much like my own daughter, is around the same age too. We watched it together. The way the dad is struggling doing laundry and then has to tackle a hair routine he isn't used to, also relatable for me as I had to learn afro hair in order to do my daughter's and that's been an amazing thing for us both but I definitely felt like I was in that ring with her hair at times! Especially when I'm exhausted or in pain. I suffer from chronic illnesses and many health issues so even the mother and daughter part made me want to cry! Sometimes I am hospitalised and away from my family for tough periods of time or can't be what they need me to be. I just loved all of it. The representation of so many things into a small film made it highly emotional ❤

    This video means the most to me, my mother had a natural hair channel as well and her doing my hair was how we bonded, when I was thirteen she had cancer and sadly passed away. Learning how to do my hair was extremely hard. When she took care of it, it reached down to my behind. But after she passed I just got silk presses because I didn’t know how to take care of it. My hair then started falling out and I was completely lost. But my dad watched her videos and did what ever he could to help me style it even though he had no clue what he was doing

She didn't blame anyone or is mad at anyone so there's no playing "victim". She's not biracial or a black man, so she can't speak for your experience. A beautiful more sub-plot-ish part of the message in this short that I love, is the picture of her mom the little girl drew, with a crown on her bald head. Hair already means so much to a black woman’s experience, but it was a passion of this mother’s before cancer treatments made her lose her hair, maybe even a career for her through those tutorials. So for her daughter to tell her so definitively, you’re as beautiful now as you’ve ever been, even without hair, was probably so helpful to her healing, and repairing her self confidence. ❤ This short is so sweet.

    He was my dad, until I taught him how to braid. Then he started braiding my sister's hair. Then I had my own daughter, and he started braiding hers.

      Diamond Light she meant her father is the father in the beginning who didn’t really know much about hair care until she taught him how to braid.

    This short encouraged me to wear my natural hair out again. I wore my afro to a zoom meeting for work and my coworkers thought it was amazing. It really does just take a little bit of work, and a whole lot of love 💜💜😊💜💜
