- Welcome to another video with the A8 that was stuck at our place.
This time we needed help from someone smarter than us to confirm Miroslav theory. Right after diagnosis we get to work and the A8 was repaired in one day. The whole garage was working on it and this is what was wrong with it...
That may have been a financial hit to your wallet, but the kudos you will have earned for your patience and tenacity will bring benefits from those Audi owners who watch your channel and use your services.
Nightmare of a job...well done on your patience...👏
I agree 100%.
As a garage you will undoubtedly take a hit like this, you all perceived and kept the customer informed, also showed you tube what was happening, well done 👏🏿 ✔️
Why the black hand though?
Amazing work my friend. Your patience and new 48v knowledge is first-class. As a heavy diesel mechanic we get a lot of can bus and modules on nearly new earthmoving machines and some are real head scratchers and sometimes very emotional. 😂 great work guys love your videos. Big thumbs up from scotland.
Well done for hanging in there and having the balls to be open about this. I guess you specialising in the over complicated junk is always going to test and challenge you. The day we stop learning is the day we stop breathing. You will never forget this experience. Every video you put out reminds me never to buy Audi or VW cars ever again. If the stress of Audi is too high, consider a move to Trabant or Dacia stuff. Well done and thanks for the education.
What do you drive then mate. Buy a belt drive 2.0 tdi VAG 2012 onwards and you’ll be absolutely fine once you’ve done an EGR/DPF delete
Audi A8 the most complicated way of making a spark ignite petrol yet devised. Your skill and tenacity in repairing it is a warning to us all to avoid these cars!
All because of government regulations.
I think the team learned a lot from this. Like they said earlier, there are only going to be more of these hybrid cars coming through, so learning about them and going through that learning curve is very necessary. Well done guys for sticking with it and gaining invaluable experience in the process.
What a great advert for your company and your determination to get it sorted very well done.👍🍺🐶
I glad you fixed it and I'm sure you are as well. When fault finding I always do the wiggle /tug test on all wires into and out of connectors plus looking for any green crusties within the crimps .. also using an old fashioned test bulb (incandecent not LED) to test continuity with a load will help find broken cables. Every days is a school day! Well done
Happy to see you finally resolved the problem. Corroded pin(s) can be a bitch to diagnose when it causes intermittent connection.
Never give up, well done for sticking with it.
Perfect work guys! Thank you for highly interesting Video
Thanks for your production efforts to make the videos, that inform and entertain us
Like looking for a needle in a hay stack ...... fair play to yous sticking it out and getting to the bottom of that problem ..... 👍🏼 great work and videos as always guys
Perfect chanel is DiagnoseDan 🙌👌👍 from NL
Super interesting video.. And yet another reminder of how complex these cars are. Is there any consensus on which warranty companies are decent???
Thank you again. You are a great instructor 🥋
So glad you guys finally got this sorted. One costly learning experience, but this really highlights the challenges you can get with electrics - just crazy!!!
Fantastic job well done, l knew you would get to the bottom off it , sorry about the man hours you had to put in, but a great result in the end , Well Done 😁
Tomas, Mirko, David, Andy and doggy, I personally think you need to cover all the cost between customer and you simply because of the time he was not been able to use it. I know, I know, this can happen to any dealer, etc, once again - this iw my private and own suggestion. The owner, as a gentleman will cover some things anyway or will make a reputation with new customers. Anyway, this is done and the lesson learned! And we all know, you are learning from lessons which makes you different! Appreciate the content, struggling and the victory. Cheers from Sweden.
Enjoyable video again, thx :) That 12V battery -dying issue seems to affect loads of VAG cars. VW Passat hybrid has serious issues with gearbox after 12V battery dies. It uses hydraulics with 48V battery and it makes too much hydraulic pressure, which then rips metal filter inside gearbox hydraulic-system to one of the solenoids. Which leads to car not starting engine on again. Audis only repair is to change whole gearbox costing 14-15 000 euros. It is at least affected from 2017 -> 2019 models.
Had a similar issue on a 2010 Volvo S80, the dealer couldn't fix the issue and wanted $2800 to replace the BMS module. Turned out the issue was corrosion in the wiring harness from the main fuse box in the engine bay. Good to see you got this sorted out for your customer.
Good job under trying circumstances.
What an absolute ball ache that’s been
Well done for getting to the bottom of it and showing us
It will have been a massive learning experience for you’s
But at least you now know what to look for in the future
Top job 🍻🍻
Excellent news Audi Upgrades (Andy ) and yourself have resolved the ongoing issues with the A8. Note, I can't see any reference in the description to Audi Upgrades but should note as an existing and returning + recommending to others client, they're brilliant at fault finding but also retrofits.
Look forward to maybe a collaboration job in the near future to combine both your skillsets!
What is his channel?
Feel for you guys. Try a Citroen 2006 C4. If the ashtray light bulb blows, it turns off some the dashboard lights and electronic headlight adjusters! Only replacing the tiny bulb makes it all work again :)
What a relief....and what a lesson about tenacity and team work
Good job on getting the problem fixed.
Fantastic that you guys got it sorted. At great cost to yourselves but if I may say very enjoyable to watch you get it fixed 😎😎
Beautiful car. Classy specification on it.
You could have just pushed it out the door like a lot of other garages would do but I think being honest with your customers is always the way forward at the end of the day we are always learning.. it might have been a bit of a headache for the customer but I bet he comes back to you knowing he can trust you regardless of the situation.
Awesome honest video. Well done not giving up. With luck you might see that 48V connector fault again and be able to recover some of your diagnostic time costs. It could be a one of fault but being corrosion you may well see that fault again in another A8
Great video guys glad you sorted it i was wondering what happened to the A8 I have the same system in my s4 TDI.... WELL DONE 👏
Excellent video. So conclusion was..corrosion of connector in power steering module (engine bay). Fix was replace, abrade the corrosion, re-protect from further corrosion). Replace the impacted 12v battery?
48V battery and inverter seems ok? No need for replace?
good job maintaining good composure and patience!
Thanks for sharing - now you have expertise in Audi electrics
Well done🎉
Well done, feels like a big financial hit for your business, however, although very painful, a very good learning experience. Like it or not, internal combustion engines in the future will gain greater complication and be laden with more and more electronics, batteries and electric motors.
Well done guys
Well done!!
Good dear
Happened with my Audi A5 that heated mirror and keyless unlocking stopped working. Audi garage quoted for a brand new heated mirror and door handle sensor for 450 pounds. I opened to see, connections corroded cleaned in 5 min and working ever since(more than 2 years). Adblue failed no restart in 500km even though its full, no communication with adblue ECU. My usual mechanic checked, he said wires probably somwhere corroded. Audi garage took it under warranty and replaced everything adblue tank, ecu, pump etc. over 5000 pounds and it was probably just one pin loosing connection 🤦🤯
We done boys. A lesson in perserverance. 10 / 10
good work
I think the owner was lucky he took car to you instead of Audi because they don’t solder wires or replace pins. They would have just replaced bunch of modules and wiring looms until problem goes away. And then give owner bill of many many thousands of pounds.
Now you have the experience. Usually, the long way is the best way.
Well done boys I bet you had a few beers afterwards, the dog didn’t like that car either 👍
Good old fashioned rust....😮 #Vorsprungdorktechnic. Well done in the end guys... nightmare scenario.
Glad I got out of the motor trade when I did, with so many electrical faults that can occur theses days! Who'd have thought a rusty terminal, being the culprit, I hope you took the hammer to them afterwards! Barstewards!😀
Wow that is painfull to watch, so much effort and strugle becouse of stupid rusted pin.
I admire your patience, good job :)
Invest in a Picoscope and proper training. Scoping the flexray signal would have showed the issue. Then you can wiggle the harness to locate it without having to circuit check everything.
If you want to keep working on modern cars your going to run in to these problems more and more.
£120 quid off of Amazon can't go wrong 👍
This video series about this A8 was very interesting. Can you tell would you definitely recommend to avoid cars with those 48v systems? I mean to buy or not to buy? Thanks 😊
The car owner should say a hearty "Thank you very much!" I hope he realizes you just saved him his car. There's no way in hell he would have gotten it fixed at the dealer... for less than the value of the vehicle.
well done lads
Good work, but I think it's time to invest in a Pico scope , I got a 2 channel one off of Amazon for about £120. It would have found your problem pretty quickly 👍
At the end of the day, we all love and enjoy driving our cars!!
How much extra mpg/power does this new 48v hybrid system gain compared to the previous generation same spec engine?
Cdud can get you 40-50mpg.
At its worst it’s 36 at its best 55, averaging 40-45mpg long term isn’t a problem, what extra does the new complicated system get you?
Well done guys awsum
I bet you don’t want to see one of those problem cars again soon 👍👍👍
Upssss one outside 😀💁♂️
@@VAGTechnic no please🙈🙈🙈🙈
I wanted to buy a 2023 A8 60tfsi with 30.000km for 70.000 euros, but after seeing your videos i reconsidered and i will go for a tesla model 3 performance.Thank you.
I would not buy another VAG car in their current form either.
Interesting - on something so critical, you'd have thought Audi would have used tinned wiring, but it's all down to cost. Outboard manufacturers are exactly the same, marine wiring in salt-laden atmosphere quickly leads to oxidisation and loss of signal. Sometimes you need to strip the rubber sheath back to see what's happening, but a continuity test with multi-meter at least isolates fault.
You guys are awesome
a real 'and-so-on-and-so-on' of a job
💯
So have you ordered a large neon sign for the front of the shop with "Sorry we don't service Audi A8! " 😂
Well done on sticking with it. Nightmare.
Dear Audi users, Please note that Audi gives 7 years warranty on their hybrid alternator/generator I've just had mine replaced free of charge. Make sure to enquire and save yourselves alot of money!
Not in U.K. 😂
Tony which country are you living?
Hearing “VAGtechnic ” comment that eu has extended warranty.
I searched on online and it doesn’t mention extended warranty.
Background - I have similar issues.
@@AlunHart United Kingdom 🇬🇧
@VAGTechnic What do you mean i got it replaced by Audi for free in London what's so funny 🤔
@AlunHart Just go to Audi and tell them a consultant has informed you on the phone that you still have manufacturer's warranty on your part, and they will check it, just speak to a manager at the shop. Good luck
Expirience with 2.0 tfsi 252 A4b9?
Still believe customer should have shared at least some of the load on this one, bit shitty to leave you picking up the tab, nothing you did caused a wire/connector to corrode, well done all the same.
The only thing I don't understand is that the ultimate problem seems to be unrelated and merely a coincidence. But what a coincidence to happen at the same time. Or was this corrosion in the plug exacerbated by reseating the connection by removing the subframe? And since the ultimate problem was not the fault of VAG Technic, couldn't they have billed for more time spent?
Same situation like exhaust clamp … it’s good until you need to take them off . If they rusty and you have to cut them whose fault is it ? 😀 connector was ok until we touched it move it and it lost connection inside
How can something so new already have such a fault in the wiring? Incomprehensibly. I've had a D3 A8 Audi for about ten years and everything works. Mycar is still 20 years old. In new cars, whether it's a luxury model or not, the problems seem to be quite difficult. The quality of wires, etc. is getting worse every year.
AUDI engineer's logic in Ingolstadt: let's move the ECU behind the back seat, no one should touch it...
It's the BCM, not the ECU. Before you bag Audi, check out all other manufacturers because ALL now have control modules spread throughout the vehicles.
Ah s#!t happens gents, only way to get better is to have more difficult issues. Good find though.
nice!
48v system is a pain in the back side.
Too complicated cars. Happy owners 😊🙌 €€€€😪
This problem shows these cars are built to fail in a short period unless you live in a dry low humidity environment. 😢
3:20 - Sounds like someone should've put in some ethernet a while ago.....
I think if you own an Audi you should expect it to spend some time in a workshop
It thakes you picoscope
Audis are crap good money earner though esp if you have the patience
Second hand resale value on this car will be, for next to nothing, Audi and other manufacturers, over complicated all done by design,,
told you so . lose pins
