Dr. Ford, 70, uber fit and 17 days out from a triple bypass with 3 obstructed arteries. I pursued my own course of diagnosis after a Cardiac Calcium score of 500. Finding the right cardiologist saved my life just in time. You suggested taking a baby aspirin. I did. Thanks. I have considered you a valuable part of my medical team despite the fact I only know you on TH-cam. You are doing great work. Again, thank you! Chuck

@ Find a great Cardiologist and track the progression of the disease. Keep in top shape. Forgo sugar, carbs, alcohol, tobacco and slow the disease progression. Finally, my friend, don’t overthink it and worry yourself into an early grave. It’s not inconceivable that you may someday have a similar operation. There is a super good chance you will survive it and recover to full strength. My Cardiologist is Dr. Jamnadas who you can find on TH-cam, a brilliant physician and a kind soul. I sought him out when I moved to the Orlando area. He also detected my kidney cancer that I had removed earlier this year. Because I have been fit my entire life, the recovery from both operations have been much easier than most experience. Finally, I have been a Keto/Carnivore for years and intermittently fast almost every day. 6/18. Hope this has been helpful. Best, Chuck

@@natesquestyouknowthatsrigh8269 get a CIMT test, which they look at your carotid artery to review plaque. I had a calcium score of 400 and my CIMT showed zero plaque. I’m still trying to figure that out. Maybe the calcium build up was from earlier in my life and I wasn’t eating as healthy, not sure. I take Neprinol enzymes, CoQ10, K2 and citrus bergamot on a daily basis now. It’s contributed to lower blood pressure. I took low dose statin for a year and after 8 months, terrible muscle pain. At what age do you say, "OK that's old enough no since fighting nature"? What I mean is no one lives forever and by enlarge if you are in your mid 70s and still getting around maybe it's time not to worry about health so much as something is going to get you so just enjoy each day. Personally, I wished we came with shut off switches that was programable so when a certain parameter is reached click goes the button and, on the floor, you go without even knowing you're on the floor and gone. I had a heart attack at 55 and suffered and I mean suffered for 9 years after the heart attack due to the drugs which was sending me to ER 3 times a week and the pain was horrible. The DRs told me that if I stopped taking the pills I was going to die, well at 9 years I said the hell with it I'm done, and I stopped all pills except for aspirin and BP med. Immediately within 48 hours I was pain free. I tell you most doctors have no clue what the hell they are doing and don't deserve the title of doctor.

I'm 78 and take quite a few supplements and vitamins, and some of those are blood thinners, like NAC and several others. So I stopped taking baby aspirin I have taken for decades because I had had a stroke at 31.
I take hi-dose C, D3 & CoQ10, 2000mg of Omega 3, and 100mg of Nattokinase, and quercitin when I have the flu. And sometimes I take magnesium. And I've read all of these are blood thinners. So I stopped the baby aspirin and I've cut the CoQ10 to twice a week. I started that because I have been taking pravastatin 40mg since the 90s, but just cut that back to twice a week.
I also take 100mg of K2, which I hope helps.
I have a heart murmur from childhood rheumatic fever, a faulty mitral valve and calcification of my aorta. I have high triglycerides and LDL. My fasting glucose is 101mg/dL. And I'v been a vegetarian for 30+ years.
I get better health information from internet research than from any doctor.

‘Blood thinners’ is a quick and dirty term which is not what these supplements actually do. I am with you about needing to take control of your own health but good doctors and cardios do know useful stuff and still need to be at least listened to plus there is a lot of nuance to all these ‘blood thinning’ substances modes of action so do lots of research extra to what anyone on youtube tells you because the devil is in the details with a lot of this stuff and there are a lot of contradictory clickbait headlines as a result

@southerngal7899 Just 8 weeks ago I completely stopped Omeprezol 40 mg daily. Ulcers gone, no indigestion, simply using cayenne pepper in my meals. It increases the protective mucus in the stomach lining, wipes out ulcers. My wife was told she must begin blood thinners for her heart, last week had her blood tested and zero need for blood thinners. Unlike many natural remedies, you can't take too much cayenne pepper. It also heals damage in blood vessels. I would very much recommend good doctors like this one on this channel, also learning about natural methods and holistic nutritional diets. Dr Barbara o'Neill's TH-cam conferences teaching how foods and herbs heal at the cellular level.

I had taken it for years without any negative side effects, including excessive bleeding. Aspirin also has some anti-inflammatory properties, and may even prevent/slow the spread of cancer. So, at least for myself, the benefits outweigh the risks.

For decades I've had severe ,frequently atypical, problems with treatments for cardiovascular problems. As long term damage has accumulated: I recently decided that I would target quality over quantity. For decades medium to long-term NSAID use, not just aspirin, has given me joint pain. I'd stop the aspirin, the joint swelling and pain would slowly disappear. My cardiologist would insist I'd restart and the swelling and pain would return. I am aware of the research indicating that NSAID's worsen arthritis especially osteoarthritis.
About two years ago the hand pain and swelling joints started getting much worse. I lost the ability to close my right hand more than half way and the knuckle tendons began to pop out of position. I stopped the aspirin again. Roughly a year later: the swelling was essentially gone, I can fully close both hands, but one of the knuckles on the right hand becomes increasingly uncomfortable, and pops the tendon, if increase the pressure.

Yes I pray over every meal too. I think we all have an awesome responsibility to take heed. At 68 I enjoy feeding and dressing myself and not someone else. I'm still Running, swimming, hiking and enjoying my time here on earth. James 2:17 says, prayer without works is dead, and it emphasizes the importance of combining faith with practical action to achieve desired outcomes. I pray before I buy my food and whilst I prepare my food that I I'm using the best ingredients, options and methods in preparing my food. IE do I fry my fish tonight or shall I grill or steam it etc. I recently visited my Dr to check how healthy I am not the other way around. Hopefully we can can spur on one another toward good deeds and choices. And I think this is what our good Drs are helping us to do. Have a wonderful festive season. My glucose reading on the 26th December was 5.0 and felt blessed that i chose wisely what I placed on my plate and prayed thanking The Lord for food, health and strength. Thank you Docs for guidance and valuable information. We appreciate your time and effort.

I have heard that according to a recent scientific paper that performed a meta-analysis on the topic, it is not recommended to start taking aspirin regularly after the age of 60, because it tends to increase side effects and not the protection (i.e. regular aspirin use is recommended before the age of 60).

i had a stroke in 2019 at 53. they never figured out what caused the stroke. I happened to be on the keto diet, which they believe wasn't related. my dr. has me on 325mg of aspirin daily, the cardiologist said going whole food plant based diet. my daughter and wife were were already vegan, so i went vegan. I think I've been told I have thick blood. I did stop taking aspirin for a few days in a row a could years back and I felt woozy or dizzy. I did have high cholesterol before I went vegan. in the hospital they didn't find clogged arteries. they also monitored me for afib, but they couldn't confirm afib. when on keto i was able to maintain a healthy weight, then on vegan, i yoyo'd but for a few years was able to maintain an even better weight. now for the last couple years im overweight and cant seem to loose it. i have good and bad days with how i feel. i also had my speen and gallbladder removed at age 5 due to hereditary sphirocytosis. i thought i was having a stroke in 2023 but emergency room confirmed i got bells palsy. it was a bad few months during that sickness but im still here today.

Hi Dr.Brewer, I'm a 66yo male, had a mild heart attack 28 years ago and quadruple bypass and shortly afterwards I had balloon angioplasty w/stent. That's when I started taking aspirin, 325mg. for a long time. The last 5 years or so I changed to 81mg on my own. The only thing I don't like about the aspirin is I bruise easily on my arms and back of my hands. If I rub up against something or if I'm taking something out of a box, within seconds I have ugly bruises. I HATE it!! I want to stop taking it but now, 2 months ago, I was diagnosed with Heart Failure. I read that Aspirin can harm the kidneys in high doses, or, with long term use, which is me. I want to stop taking. I hope Dr .Brewer can comment on my post.

If you are treated by the NHS for a heart attack, you are (from day one|) given lansoprazole with your aspirin, a medication that is recommended for 4 months max is given indefinitely, and without cause. I believe the reason for this is to stop heart attack patients from calling an ambulance (free in the UK), with heartburn. I never took it (lansoprazole) and I don't take aspirin daily because of the bleeding risk, that was likely overstated by prescribing the "stomach protecting" medicine.

Thanks for a well balanced video. Inline with your Mantra of "test don't guess" could you consider a follow up video regarding,
Is there a test to measure one's anti-platelet status? This could determine how effective baby aspirin is versus the effect of the "natural" supplements that you mention (not all people react the same to medications and supplements). This might help a person decide whether to take baby aspirin or not. Obviously researchers do have a test for this but maybe it is too costly for routine use?.
How do you know if you have a bleeding issue when on aspirin? Is there a test for this? Obviously you would not want to wait until serious symptoms start.
Inline with your dirty Harry analogy it seems that we are asking people to take baby aspirin for secondary prevention as a blanket measure and to "feel lucky" that you won't have any bleeding issues. Early testing (if practicable) here would be a boon.
P.S did you photo shop the image of Dr. Varga? He should be on the cover of Vogue or start his own perfume brand.

Fine to prevent clotting with aspirin but how sbout that calcium build up?
I have to take pantaprazole 40 mgs. to prevent getting a gastric ulcer again from aspirin. I am fine with that because I feel aspirin is that important.
I had triple bypass at White Plains (NY) Hospital 3 years ago as a 67 YO.
    Btw I take 500mg metformin × 2 because my A1C went to 6.4.

Hi Doc and team. As always, great subject. QQQ. I'm 60, have plaque, doing good work with lifestyle and diet and used to take baby aspirin daily. I had to stop because I developed stomach ulcers. When I stopped the baby aspirin they cleared up. With that in mind do you have a generic suggestion for people like me who are at risk but can't seem to take baby aspirin? BTW, I do have a low level of insulin resistance that I constantly work on to improve. I'm prediabetic - A1C 5.6 fasting insulin slight below 9. Curious again if you have any suggestions to keep risk as low as possible. Thank you

As long as there is low risk of bleeding, no allergies, and presence of plaque, is an option I discuss with patients

I think all this has to do with food intake. We weren't born to live off chemicals. A healthy olive oil, green leaved diet sorts a lot of problems out. No bread,no pastas or pizzas.

Sodium acetyl salicylic acid the effervescent one should be fine for ulcers.

How do you know you have a low risk of bleeding?

    • @PrevMedHealth
      @PrevMedHealth  27 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

Is usually personal and family history of it, previous experiences, you can test your coagulation, those who have a high risk of bleeding know it
