That is exactly what happened to me, Dr Berry. No doctor ever told me about B-12 and now after taking MetFormin I have neuropathy in my feet and fingertips and have been diagnosed with cognitive decline. Wish I’d found you earlier. I’m going to watch all your videos!
My doctor put me on Metformin and B-12. I've been on it for about 3 years now. I thought that was standard treatment. I'm so glad I had a doctor who was up on the latest treatments.
I just started staking metformin a week ago. I’ve never had high glucose or A1C but I have PCOS and chronic fatigue. I’m already feeling much better and losing weight but this is great to know! I was not told this!
How polite of you to say "doctors sometimes forget to tell you". I lost 65lb in 8 months, I am now 137lb and living free of any issues thanks to the Ketogenic diet and IF. Thank you for giving us lifesaving advices, Doc.
@@eb6195 Exactly, they just don't know. They're taught and get it drilled into their heads which medication you can use for certain symptoms. And what medications will contradict each other.
My dad passed in 2009, and he was never told to take this vitamin while on Metformin. He had pretty good health all his life, until he started on rx meds. :( He was 82.
My 61 year old husband was on Metformin for over 10 years. He had 100% of the symptoms of a severe B-12 deficiency, including anemia and a magnesium deficiency. He went to at least six different doctors (including specialists) and was even admitted to the hospital after fainting at a restaurant. No one ever tested his B-12 levels. He suffered needlessly for years. Metformin can block B-12 absorption so he probably needed injections. He was starting to suffer from dizziness and dementia the year before he died. He also had untreated sleep apnea. He suffered a sudden death after falling asleep on the sofa while watching a movie in August, 2021. His head was tilted and his airway was closed down. When I called 911 the operator told me to lay him on his back and start chest compressions. That’s the moment his airway totally closed down and he died. Total medical ignorance and neglect up to the very end is what he really died from.
My dad passed last fall, had a similar story.... We just couldn't get the right help for him. Finally ended up in the emergency room where they ended up killing him there. It's been heartbreaking for my mom and I, replaying all the bad medical decisions we fought against. We tried so hard to advocate for him, and in the end it didn't matter. I'm sorry for your pain and loss. 🙏
So sorry about your husband. I just got out of the hospital. I demanded they release me after four days. If I stayed, they would have eventually killed me with their pathetic allopathic mainstream standard of care treatments. They are like robots with no ability to think out of the box! Always study ALL THE SIDE EFFECTS OF MEDICATIONS YOU ARE PRESCRIBED, AND DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE YOU TAKE THE FIRST PILL!
Many doctors are not mentioning B12 and it's such an important vitamin that affects I believe our central nervous system. I take metformin with a regular B12, but I am going to change it to a methalated one. Thank you Dr. B for this great video.
Unfortunately, in most vitamins , the preferred forms, it’s not one that you can just take off the shelf at Walmart. Seems that they either have soy oil or generally just not the best form of any vitamin, including B12.. Cheap to produce.
Dr Berry thank you for this very important information!! Unfortunately this is what happened to my mother in-law She had been on Metformin for years and her Vitamin B12 was so low it was off the charts low Yes you doctors are so busy you sometime forget to mention this to patient especially elderly patients Keep up the good work !
At his request, I helped my ex to go onto Ketogenic lifestyle. He has been a diabetic for at least 30 yrs. as well as a recovering alcoholic. He had a heart attack in April 2019. A1C was 6.8 and he was losing weight fast. He now eats all his meals with us(he's alone in the world) and he is totally on and with Keto. At the End of June 2019 his A1C is 5.4, he is beginning to "GAIN" muscle mass and has lost the brain fog that had his doctors thinking he was entering dementia. He has been taken off all the Metformin and Glucophage he was taking 2 and 3 times a day. His VA doctors are thrilled and are petitioning to put all their cardiac patients on Keto. You probably helped me to save his life and mine and my husband's. We are grateful and thank you!
I haven't been on it that long, but at my physical before last I was told my B12 was low and to supplement it, I did and it was improved at my last physical. I wish I'd known this was the reason it dropped because I thought it was dietary and made changes there as well. Knowledge is power.
Thanks a lot, doctor, for this great video. I've been taking glucophage since 2005, but 3 months ago I started the ketogenic diet and the day I started was the same day I stoped taking glucophage and diamicron and januvia. Doing keto is the best thing I've done in my life.
You were right. My doctor didn’t tell me I needed a B12 supplement. Luckily I’ve only been on metformin a couple of months. I ordered the B12 from your link. Thanks.
Thank you for this video. My late mother experienced B12 deficiency throughout her life. It took many years to the bottom of it. She was hospitalized several times for depression.. She was given B12 injections and told to take supplements. Finally she was tested for the intrinsic antibodies. She was then able to get monthly B12 injections. This isn't about your topic, but I just wanted to stress the importance of B12. Something as inexpensive as a B12 injection totally changed her life.
I take three metformin, I have lung cancer and also have immunotherapy. I stopped drinking alcohol. So thank you so much I have sharp pins and needles in my feet. This week Iv visited my GP about the constant palpitations, I do take vitamin b1 but thanks to you will now take b12.
I didn't know that I was suppose to take b12 with metformin until my eye sight was going fast. I now take it daily and feel so much better. Great video!
Carla Velasquez yes girl start taking b12. I take them every time I take metformin. Morning and night. I didn't know I was a diabetic until I fell. I finally went to hospital after a month. I was thinking new glasses. Thankfully I found out the metformin affects like eyesight. Mine is perfect now. So you take care of you:)
I have been taking Metformin for years. Not one single doctor ever mentioned I might need B12. Until about 8 months ago when I went to see whatever doctor could get me in the quickest, because I was freaked out that I had completely lost my sense of taste. This new doctor told me that because I was on Metformin I should try taking B12 and zinc and see if that helped. Within three days I could taste again. I have been taking B12 and zinc ever since as I don't ever want my food to be tasteless again! No one mentioned these other side effects of having low B12.
Kinda pissed me off that we can be on medication and 10yrs later you can have worse problems when trying to take better care of yourself than b4 all because your lacking a certain vitamin that you could've easily taken and avoided all that but your dr didn't tell you.
That would be scary, loose your sense of taste. I hear some people have that happen to them as the first indication they have been infected with the corona virus, they loose their sense of smell and taste.
Thank you Dr Berry. I finally understand what is wrong with my mother. I feel aggrieved that everything she went through was most probably avoidable. I'm shocked that doctors can simply forget to talk about such serious possible side effects whilst dishing out medications. This is such a simple way to save someone's health, no hospital admission or expensive meds required. How negligent.
Thank you for making this video!! After I was told I had type 2 diabetes I began taking Metformin. About 1-2 days later my feet began to buzz, become hot, and often felt like they fell asleep. I began to worry. But my blood sugar was between 130 and 150. I couldn’t figure what was going on. Stopped the metformin to see if that was the cause. Sure enough, it stopped. But this video reaffirmed my thoughts. Either way, I’m taking B12 ASAP!! Thanks again!!!
I am 59 and have been on metformin since I was 30. NO ONE ever told me that. I have a horrible memory and awful neuropathy. I started Gabapentin recently. I’m getting me some B12

WOW. I usually take these videos as "maybe", but he hit on a HOLY MOLY for me. Been taking Metformin for a bunch of months. I started feeling pins and needles in my left foot! This totally coincides with start of Metformin! Impressed!
So glad to have found your videos. Was diagnosed with type 2 about 6 years ago. Was put on metformin. Triglycerides steadily climbed. Doc started putting me on several different things. A year and half ago, i decided to see his PA. When calling for labs, she included a check of my vitamin B. My original Doc never had done it. Needless to say, it came back low. She put me on a B-12 supplement daily and it brought the levels up into the normal range, but on the higher side. We backed off to every other day and that seems to be the sweet spot. I did some online research and came across an article that metformin can lower your B levels which in turn can raise your cholesterol levels. Guess what happened also with my triglycerides? They started to come down. But, of course they had put me on another cholesterol medicine back then too. So, i'm sure it's a combination, but determined to get it all down to where the pill-pusher can take me off of some of these things. I'm really pissed that in all the time, he never checked my B levels or even talked about it.
That’s because some doctors like your first one doesn’t want people like us knowing the truth about that Metformin evil drug & doesn’t want us to know about Vitamin B12, because they happen to be in league with the Pharmaceutical Industry (Big Pharma). That’s why I’m thankful for videos like this, because they show us the truth about all of these drugs that we’re taking as Diabetics. It’s why I started looking for alternatives to drugs like Metformin in general.
I am an RN and did my own research…no doctor or school told me about this…except for Dr. Joe Mercola, and now this doc. When I met my man who has diabetes, the first thing I did was get him on B12, D3, magnesium, and kicked his statin to the curb…fun fact-his Hemaglobin H1C improved drastically.
@@vaiolover1997 it depends on how you take it and how old you are. Over 40 oral b12 is not effective, therefore the standard injectable dose (intramuscular or subcutaneous) is 1000mcg monthly, however I do it weekly usually, since I have hereditary low b12. There is only one type of injectable B12 in Canada where I live, unless you buy methylcobalomine at a compounding pharmacy.
@@catnip3420 see my response to the next commentor…we don’t have choices to injectables in Canada…oral b12 is only good in young people, and even then, may not be sufficient. A study found that oral is just as effective as injectable, but it was debunked as heavily flawed. If you must take it orally try sublingual. I tried many s/l and only Dr Mercola’s spray worked for me. As it was too expensive, I prefer to give my self s/c injections for pennies a dose.

I still have one carb serving a day which I know acts like sugar in my body..My A1C went way down after 3 months of this & I feel amazingly better. It's been 6 months since I found out this was my issue. I spent a good year constantly feeling sick & waking up every morning throwing up & with terrible headaches. Thank you so very much doctor Berry. What a nice coincidence. I accidentally stumbled upon an article explaining the meaning of vertical ridges on the nails of B12-deficient people, and I just realized that I have them right now. I take metformin on a daily basis after my doctor told me I have high blood sugar, and now I see it to my horror that the vertical ridges on my nails are looking uglier. I remember three or four years ago my fingernails were still smooth and shiny. Thank you for explaining the importance of taking B12 pills. I'll go get them at the nearest drugstore today. I love Metformin. Makes my life normal again. But I was taking B12 complex and just did my labs and and I was way TOO high on B12. The key is do you labs and do them often. You, nor your doctor can tell what is wrong or where you are at medically with out getting your labs done. Great video though.
I have been taking metformin since it was first released in the U.S.A.. Never had a problem with any side effects from the metformin. I noticed metformin is currently being tested for it's effectiveness as a longevity drug.

Hey, I was just put on Metformin because my numbers were starting to get high. Dr never said a thing about B12 deficiency, just 500mg of Metformin a day. Glad somebody is watching out for me, your video was right on time...thank you so much.

That is exactly what happened to me, Dr Berry. No doctor ever told me about B-12 and now after taking MetFormin I have neuropathy in my feet and fingertips and have been diagnosed with cognitive decline. Wish I’d found you earlier. I’m going to watch all your videos!

So wonderful to hear a doctor who is healing the unhealthy!!! Thank you. My brother just started taking metformin.
How polite of you to say "doctors sometimes forget to tell you". I lost 65lb in 8 months, I am now 137lb and living free of any issues thanks to the Ketogenic diet and IF. Thank you for giving us lifesaving advices, Doc.
I've been taking Ozempic for 2 years and I gained 35 lbs; now I'm going to shift gears and try vitamin B12 and cross my fingers.
Really, they forget?? Or do they not know in the first place. There is a reason they call it "practicing" medicine.

He made it. 82 is Long life
Been on metformin for 6 years, and this is the first i am hearing about this, thank you
My 61 year old husband was on Metformin for over 10 years.
Wow, so sad to hear your story. My condolences and kind wishes for you!
It caused me to lose feeling in my legs, I took myself off of it, my Dr. Was pissed!, phuck him, and I told him so!

Unfortunately this is what happened to my mother in-law
She had been on Metformin for years and her Vitamin B12 was so low it was off the charts low
Yes you doctors are so busy you sometime forget to mention this to patient especially elderly patients
Keep up the good work !
I had no idea. Started taking B12 two weeks ago and pins and needles feeling in my feet is gone. Thanks!

I have been on Metformin for over 20 years and never knew this. I just ordered supplement you recommend.
I haven't been on it that long, but at my physical before last I was told my B12 was low and to supplement it, I did and it was improved at my last physical.
I wish I'd known this was the reason it dropped because I thought it was dietary and made changes there as well. Knowledge is power.
What brand B-12 supplement was recommended?
Thanks!
Thanks for the info Doc, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes about four years ago and no one has ever told me about this!

Oh good was taking B12 on my own without anyone mentioning that to me. I was taking it for energy.
Did the B12 give you more energy? I also heard the Metformin depletes your body of Vitamin B-9 also and that can also make your hair start thinning.
I take three metformin, I have lung cancer and also have immunotherapy. I stopped drinking alcohol. So thank you so much I have sharp pins and needles in my feet. This week Iv visited my GP about the constant palpitations, I do take vitamin b1 but thanks to you will now take b12.
This is the first time I have heard of this and I have been on Metformin since about 2004! I will definitely be sending this to friends and family!!!
I've been on it for 2yrs. My Dr. Never said anything about this, thanks. I wonder why I couldn't remember things.
*Thank You for this..* I'm Type II diabetic, and have been on metformin for years, and NO ONE has ever mentioned this...
I didn't know that I was suppose to take b12 with metformin until my eye sight was going fast. I now take it daily and feel so much better. Great video!
Tiffany LaShea omg! Mine has gotten so much worse and I never connected the dots 😱
Dr. Berry,
Whats your thoughts on Berberine? Thanks for the great information 👍
I would be interested as well. I have been on it for a while now...works great for me in combo with cinnamon

Just shared it with a woman that had issues like this and she did NOT know about the B12 connection, so, hopefully she will get some GOOD B12. Thanks.
I just began this med and I'm very grateful I came across your video. Thank you!
When I heard the accent I knew I could trust him. Southern docotors have always been the absolute best in my experiences.
God bless you for taking your time to make these videos and informing people of things they would otherwise never know.
My husband was tested about 2 years into his diabetes. Has been on B12 and vitamin D3 ever since.

What's the daily recommended dosage because I have diabetes also? Thanks
What type and brands of b12 and magnesium do you give him?
