Back in my youth, I never had the R5 Turbo but it was my nemesis as a Ford owner.. where you had the Escort RS Turbo, Fiesta RS Turbo and Escort and Sierra Cosworths... But all these years on, it's a shame that Renault has brought back the iconic car and Ford has totally abandoned the smaller cars in favour of oversized SUVs. I fear that if they decided to produce a Fiesta EV (which they absolutely should) it would probably be the size of an F150. At the same event in Farnborough, I saw the supposed Capri and couldn't help but laugh at the cheek of Ford putting the name on a car that has nothing to do with the original. Renault has done a fantastic job capturing the spirit of the original car from the 70s and 80s, but for a new generation.
@@JonathanMorris777 The Capri is just odd. Either their market research/focus groups swayed the name or it was some boardroom call. The Mustang Mach E pulled it off better

Guy in one review was driving it round Monaco and it was in the company of Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, even hyper cars and this was getting all the thumbs up and interest 😂 Love the Retro look. We have had Five MINI’s, Two currently on the drive as a hatch and clubman both factory ordered to our spec. But at this price point it absolutely smashes MINI SE with sports pack out the pack at £42k 😮 Had friends who had the 5 turbos and even the Turbo 2’s and it’s a great nod to them. I’d have loved to been local enough to go to the FE show as I’d been all over that. Come on Renault open up the order book over this pre paid to spec a car up.
I’m old enough to remember the original haha. It was such an iconic car. This one looks to be iconic too, made for the EV era. I need to move to Europe and drive all these cars. The ones on sale in Canada are just so boring haha.
@@simplygregsterev totally agree with your assessment that here in North America all we get is electric trucks and SUVs. Nothing new and fun like this. Keep the European content coming!
Not sure Renault Le Car sold well in North America, as all European small cars. How many Fiat e500s sold in 2024 ? I understand many people would like it but the best selling cars are trucks and big SUVs so I guess Renault thinks it is too risky !
Renault has had a lot of failures in the US since 1979 with AMC... Renault 5, Renault 18, Renault alliance. Renault 21. it was nothing but failures, so it is pretty obvious not to want to export the R5 to America especially since American consumers generally favor larger vehicles like SUVs, pickups, or sedans. In addition, the investments needed to adapt to American safety and emissions standards, and to rebuild a distribution and after-sales service network, would probably not justify the potential profits for Renault. They are focusing more on markets where their expertise in small cars and electric vehicles is more likely to find an audience, like Europe and other strategic regions.
American safety and emission standards are lower than Europeans, just saying ;) But you have points regarding American market demand and building an appropriate network of service.
Well emissions are moot since its EV however US crash testing is notoriously difficult to pass especially the offset crash test. For the most part if it passes EU it will Be fine in USA/Canada. Canada lighting packages follow Noridic countries
@@simplygregsterev if EURO NCAP passes American testing so most probably it's because standards are higher in Europe, smaller roads, far much better and faster highways, improved pedestrian protection, much lighter cars overall and banning quite a lot of American models for the exact reasons enumerated here...Think about it ;)

@SWR112 I do not doubt the direction of travel with EV manufacturing, it's the future of course However, the progress has been disappointing, and targets are not being met.
