Well, it's just not the paint 😁
@@jonvers7061 agreed but almost 18k for what is an essentially appearance package is ridiculous. Yea it has some tech bits and suspension but overall its still just an appearance package.
@simplygregsterev yeah, maybe that's how they price those tech, expensive
@@jonvers7061 Still a nice package though despite the price!
Great review, i really want to try a Lexus as i admire the ethos and reliability but its not for anyone over 5'11'' . Iam looking for a Medium premium SUV i think despite being an old design the Volvo XC60 might suit me better.
Thanks for watching. As mentioned I didn’t enjoy the seating position at all. I know a few people with XC60 PHEV and enjoy them.
What do you think of PHEVs? Do they have a place or are a waste of time?
This is a 2025 Camry, not a 2024.
@@stevescott9474 the press sheet was very confusing
Appreciate the input. I've been thinking hard about an EV the past few years but held off while the infrastructure build out was happening, while the market was maturing and while waiting on a potential house move (no need to hook up in home charging twice) but now we have a change in administration that is likely to (foolishly in my opinion) shift from an eco green focus in favor of fossil fuels so a hybrid seems to make more and more sense for the immediate and foreseeable future.
Thank you for watching
No one need an EV. No one need a car either. It's a want.
@@victic2277 Ok?
@@victic2277 LOL Amish much?
Gas is so inexpensive where I live that this car would be cheaper to drive than supercharging a model 3 (paid 2.60 per gallon for gas last night) Superchargers are .49 per kwh. The model 3 would come out on top if you mostly charged at home with electricity at .11 per kwh but the significantly higher registration fees on EV's (since they don't pay tax on gas) and higher insurance would eat up a lot of the fuel savings unless you drove a lot of miles. If you looked at 10 year cost of ownership, I believe the toyota would come out on top even when you factor in oil changes/added ICE maintenance cost.
Fuel is expensive where I am Compared to USA. Charging is way cheaper
so cool
Most people don't need an EV, they will never recoup the costs because of miles driven.. Even a PHEV is not required for most people. An HEV will suffice.
It’s not about recouping costs but rather lowering emissions. Anyways I don’t get into that of things too much. I review cars
@simplygregsterev 😂 no its about recouping costs. No wonder nobody watches your channel. You probably would vote for Justin Trudeau or some other stupid liberal.
I can tell you right now, I dont. And I will tell you why. Live in the Canadian Prairies, and some trips I take are long 10 hour drives. To places that have no charging stations. One City I drive to is a 3 hour drive, and I would need to charge on that trip, or as soon as I get there. On a ten hour drive, I would waste an hour charging a car 3 times, maybe 4.
Fair enough
Looked at the BMW i4 and Polestar 2 2024. Bought the Polestar 2. Great car.
@@conradmilson6654 ive fallen in love with the P2 again. Had one as a rental recently. Same spec as in the review
Why you test the old Mini Electric? In 2024 Mini introduced the new Mini Electric E and SE. Would be fair to compare that one with the Fiat.
@@MarcelGroenendijk The new 2025 J01 Mini isn’t sold in Canada or USA that’s why.
How do you feel about Hybrids? Leave a comment
They are slow. With the prices that they have right now, just get an EV.
I love the design of this car. My cost of ownership of this car would be less than a Telsa model3 or S.
Need vtl
It’s a fantastic car .
@@astra-rb6sz thanks for watching
My issue with Toyota is not that they are still very much on the hybrid train cause I agree they still have a place for those who are afraid to go full EV. My issue is that Toyota uses deceptive marketing (what the hell is HEV anyway), telling people they drive a self charging EV and the way they spread anti EV propaganda (especially in Japan). I don’t have a problem with their cars I have a problem with how they are actively trying to discredit BEVs. This is why even if they one day release good EV I will not be buying one.
It's difficult to figure out what their "plan" is. While there is totally lobbying and mind games, I figure they are just trying to protect 20+ years of investment. A huge part of Toyota sales these days is fleets looking to lower emissions
@ the first mass produced Prius was launched in 1997 in Japan. You’d think that over the last 27 years they would have gotten their investment back and then some using surplus to start investing in the next stage of true BEVs. But I guess the conservative side of the Japanese car industry always wins over and now other countries are running way ahead in EV tech like China.
@@westcoastbestcoast88 I've been a professional auto mechanic for 20 years. When I first started my career I always figure that Toyota and Honda would be first with full mainstream BEVs by around 2010-2011. Especially Toyota being so far along with Hybrids. I never expected Nissan to beat them to market with the Leaf nor did I expect an American company (Tesla) to be the largest and kickstart the industry... When I was younger I always looked to Japan for the newest tech as they were just so far ahead... Sadly It's clear that Japan has been stuck in the year 2000 since 1995.. Toyota is a well rounded brand and I am sure they will figure it out, but just taking things slow and steady.
Nothing " deceptive " about their marketing. They can build 10 HEVs with the materials needed for one BEV. It's common sense math
@ nah that’s just marketing fluff. China is so far ahead with EVs it’s hilarious
Drove a hybrid Nissan in Japan recently and I agree they have a place and are a good option for people who are not yet ready to go full BEV. They are not for me but appreciate that others enjoy driving them. I also have to say that the constant switching between gas and electric (hybrid) is annoying most times (but then again I am spoiled by how quiet EVs are). Good video!
I like how they took an engineering approach to lower their corp avg emissions by sticking with the Hybrid/PHEV Route. Not for me but I get the appeal for many. I'm not here to bash peoples choices but if the Camry was full BEV it would be spectacular. Our next video is a PHEV!
@ can’t wait for the PHEV. Wonder what the pure EV range is on that Lexus.
@@LeftCoastEV 60km rated but its all over the place online. I said 60km in the video.
@@simplygregsterev not bad. But I wonder if it works like other PHEV systems if the temps drop to around -10 degrees Celsius then it stops working to preserve battery integrity. This has always been my biggest issue with PHEVs since then you are basically lugging a heavy battery around for no reason (especially if you live in cold climates).
@@LeftCoastEV My neighbour has a Rav4 Prime and rarely uses the gas engine he says.. Im like :S. I drove 120km round trip in the Mini today, all highway 120-130kph just north of Montreal (La Plaine) and back home. left 92% got home at 36%...
Relax my friend and no need to panic, I have a 2023 version of this car and I am not worried. I have almost 18000 miles on mine and zero issues.
No Panic. Just concern
@ I am not, but to each his own.
Toyota Prius is a fantastic car with a made reputation and stereo typed. There's a reason why most 🚕 taxis in the states are Toyota Hybrid.. Id have this over any German overrated cr4p any day. 38 years on the tools, great cars
Fit and finish of a polestar is certainly far better than a model 3, especially on the interior
I just had one as a rental again and really enjoyed it
let's not forget that the government takes 20% of the £0.79 so £0.158 per kwh. Which is a huge draw back to charging away from home. You can get a basic Ionity subscription for £5.49 a month, and you get 53p per kWh or the full passport for £10.50 and that reduces it to 43p. So at peak times cheaper than tesla, but off-peak tesla open to all are the cheapest at some sites, but not all.
Correct
Surely the Fiat is Mexican
Genuinely surprised the Fiat has more interior space than the Mini! Hard to argue with that Mini's styling and build quality, though; looks great in that British Racing Green.
You and me both!
"Now I'm not saying SimplyGregster is incontinent..."
Are you ready to laugh!!!
I’m sure the boot on the mini is bigger on paper. 210 litres v 185 litres. Also more room for rear passengers in the Mini. Cheers for the video.
Nah in real day scenario the Fiat has more room. Boot in fiat is much deeper
Maybe the J01 has more room in the back. I had an Abarth 500e and couldn’t sit in the back. I can in the J01.
@@TheUrbanSplash J01 is larger and deeper. F56 and 500e are about the same with room in back. Fiat interior is more spacious oddly enough
I would take the Fiat too. Looks great. Just need to wait a bit for them to hit the used market and buy one as a second EV. Great comparison.
@@LeftCoastEV I suspect they will be a good option on the used market. Although will be a bit scarce
@ you are totally right, won’t be many around that is for sure. It’s really a shame that people are not interested in smaller EVs. Once leases are up for these and they hit the used market I will have to get one myself as a fun city car.
@ i should do a range test with the 500e. Its getting cold now though
@@simplygregsterev good idea! Even tho it’s getting cold still relevant info for Canadians who have to deal with winter EV driving during a few long months of the year. Worth to document this i think.
@@simplygregsterev haha exactly ok now I’m hyped for the video! Before you publish it you can do a community post and poll our guesses for the range during cold weather and on winter tires.
sorry, you are wrong. On the right you can see the past and future cause you might have missed the big announcement on the 50 year VW GOLF event in Austria earlier this year. The GOLF VIII will get a successor called GOLF IX and this will be EV only, no more ICE engines. ID has nothing to do with GOLF, and it might be only a temporary naming sheme which means PASSAT will become an electric only in the next generation too.
I was simply pointing out the order in which we got cars in my market. No need for a long winded post
I am sorry, but this new Capri is quite hideous. It's meant to be more dynamic than the Explorer, but they made it look taller and fatter. It has the same crummy interior and then the call it a name that the car can not possibly live up to. I find it hard to imagine it selling well.
Don't buy any stellantis ev in general cause you will be screwed except those FIAT 500e from the USA. Check the EV clinics report about all the stellantis car models which are bad. EV clinic has 18 service centers focusses only on EV from battery to drive train and the tell you how well they know these cars and the expensive repairs. Search google for this "which-used-ev-to-buy-a-beginners-guide" and you should find a link from last week from the ev clinic. You can carefully read all the recommendations and then you will learn about the warranty rapers and other topics you wanna avoid. Regarding mini they have no reports - but that is mostly caused by the fact that they are only asked when the warranty period of 8 years for battery is over or a claim before those 8 years will be rejected and people will ask the car clinic for help even if the repair should be covered under warranty. Mini is not a topic in their report which means, if there had been complaints and claims then Mini BMW had solved these in a way that no one had asked the car clinie which is usually a good sign This report can be a big help for anyone getting into evs and what cars to avoid and what to look for based on age and mileage or maintenance that should not be forgotten. And: Check their repair prices and spare part prices to get a feeling how important they can become for your ev life. Why ? VW e_GOLF motor is 9000€ - or they can repair those for what ? 1.400€ Same for onboard charger whis is 4000€ new as spare part or repaird 800€ or they also tell you used prices for these parts. Most important source - at least in europe I would ask first regardless where you are cause they might have an idea to help you out from previous cases they also were able to help for example in the USA.
You mention quite a lot how the build quality on the Fiat is not "great". It's an understatement. These cars were known to fail miserably in winter. They age like milk. It's a throw away product.
I’m trying to be nice! I will see how it holds up during the winter here. Its a lease so I am Not keeping it long but no real issues to report from people on the European forums
It’s too bad the Fiat isn’t selling well. Such a cheerful car, but particularly Americans expect a car of its size to be cheaper. Great review, I enjoyed it
@@BensEcoAdvntr Even here in Canada its expensive yea after rebates its around 30k which is about correct. I think a big problem is lots of people think. Small = Cheap.
Great video🤙🏾🙏🏾 One thing that stood out is how you convert all the number to imperial as well for us Americans. Great video🤙🏾
you are in the states put your mlage in MPH, would be easier for you.....instead of constantly doing the conversion. Dont comment on the shittiy electric chargers in Us they are not maintained and 80% of the network is crap wich makes the whole electric car experience look crappy and troublesome

Ppl are sometimes scared to buy rental cars but I used to work at enterprise and we had to service our cars all the time to prevent from getting sued and keeping drivers safe. Lol also a lot of the cars are switched out after 2 years or at a certain amount of miles. It’s honestly safer to buy from a rental company bc it has to pass a like 120 point inspection. If it doesn’t pass, they then get passed down to other dealerships or auctions. At least that’s with enterprise 👌🏽
@@ShyiaRobinson thanks for the info
Ours is coming up 3 years old, done 17,500 miles (28,000 km), we've had it 15 months (and 7,000mls/10,500kms), average over last year has been 4.4 miles per kwh and roughly 1.3 to 1.4 miles per battery% (i.e. 100% = 130-140 miles), only charged at home on 7kw smart charger to 80% though. Had one new tyre due to a cut, other 3 are around 50% worn. Seen examples with over 75,000 miles/120,000 kms on the clock.
I am not sure we are keeping this car beyond the lease term.
Looks like you drove the wrong way here 15:37 . I guess you don't get too many one-way parking areas in Canada. Love these reviews from someone visiting the UK. Look forward to your next visit and your view on the progress on the charging over here. Region locked app charging is stupid.
Yea totally my fault. I was focused on getting to the charger before it was nabbed. Ill go turn myself in when we visit the West Country next year 😂
Too bad you are missing out on the BYD. Would be cool if you could have driven it. But the updated Polestar looks good too!
Ha! I know. Its the time we arrived around 4pm. They were pretty empty of cars. I could have taken any EV I wanted. They were trying to give me a BZ4X… NO Thanks! The Polestar 2 was brand new. I should have asked for the Atto 3 at the start of the trip but for some reason I really wanted the Jeep.
Ionity always delivering that premium electricity haha! That services where you stopped was really something, never seen a similar scenario in Canada. What is the charging curve on the Jeep? How long are you able to keep that 100kW speed? The more I see it the more I like it. Hope they bring it to Canada.
Started tapering down around 30% . It was peaking around 112kw. Lots of time between 80-90kw to 60%
@@simplygregsterevThat’s not bad for a smaller EV like this.
I did Philly to Pittsburgh, then to Erie PA, back to Pittsburgh and back to Philly this past weekend (almost 900 miles) in a 2021 Model Y Performance, the last leg (Pittsburgh to Philly - 290 miles) I did in just over 4 hours - short legs and lots of speed, longest charging stop was maybe 8-9 minutes. Gas car is still faster but you can cover ground really well in an EV if you do it right.
Yea I don’t bother with long charging stops anymore. Also If I need to use a toilet I stop vs iron bladder
@@simplygregsterev I usually don't push like that but decided to yesterday (autopilot was at 88mph pretty much the whole way), maybe I could go 15 minutes faster in a gas car (if I did the whole drove with no bathroom breaks and I did take one bathroom break yesterday)

the model 3 is proably either a company car or a rental where someone else ( not the driver) is paying for the cost of charging so the driver is probably using the 350 kw chargers to charge faster that the likely version 2 site limited tesla chargers. where you have to observe urinal rules (one space in between stalls)or you're limited to 75kw. Either that or they didnt know/ care.

Ferrybridge is a V3 site so very likely someone company/rental reasons.
