  • Well here she is, after 6 months of not riding after being smashed off of Herman, everyone meet Helga, the 2018 BMW R1200GS Rallye TE.
    I'm in LOVE!
    Just a quick vid folks from when I picked her up and took her home from Coopers BMW in Tunbridge Wells (www.cooperbikes...)
    We all know I loved Herman, my BMW R1200GS Triple Black, but alas he is no more after meeting a SMIDSY!
    So Helga is the future, and what a bike she is.
    Stay tuned for the next vid where I ride to Lands End and back to get her run-in so the real fun can begin - that's 705 miles in a day!
    I'll also do a review of the new 2018 BMW R1200GS Rallye TE once she's all run in and I can really get to grips with her.
    As always, thank you so much to everyone for their support, the Clan is growing nicely - you can find out more about joining the Clan by heading to the link below:
    REMEMBER to submit your questions for the QnA sections of the vids via any of the social media with HASHTAG #qnaTP1. Or just email me at info@teapotone.com SUBSCRIBE for brilliant weekly vids, every Tuesday (or maybe Friday as it seems to be of late).

    I am with you on that one. Few years back I visited the UK and I needed a new gear shifter for my bike. All the kTm dealers I visited where anything but helpful. They would have to order the part and it takes about two weeks. I didn't have two weeks.
    Somehow I ended up in the kTm Center in Hemel Hemstead. Same thing there. Didn't have the part in stock, but without hesitation they offered me the part of one of their showroom bikes and even fitted it for me. Very friendly and very helpful. So if you want kTm in the UK my guess is Hemel Hempstead is the place to go...

    Top choice.... I love it when another biker sees the light, I had exactly the same issues with getting a test on other "Adventure" bikes, so like you borrowed a GS for a unlimited test and ordered there and then ... Love my GS...

    Don't talk to me about archaic speed limits. Living in Norway is a very very slow pace of life. Got a 2 year ban for doing 90 in a 60. Great to see you're up and about, i don't know how many more walking vlogs i could have coped with.

    • @teapotone

    Congratulations Bruce, good to see you back in your natural habitat and Helga looks (& sounds) great 👍. I had a test ride on a GS last week and loved it; as a relatively new rider (passed my test in May last year) it’s a step up from my 800GT.
    If you’re able to change the display from MPH to KPH the it might be worthwhile “confirming” that you’ve done this in the description for each video, that way we know that any reading of “100” is still well within the law 😇.

    • @teapotone
      @teapotone  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ha Ha, but it’d be easy enough for people to just convert the kph back to mph bud, no hiding with that screen!
      Think the blur function is going to get a lot of use 👍😉

    • @smac4749
      @smac4749 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      teapotone But if you really really meant to change it to kph, told us you’d done it but “accidentally” left it on mph then we’d be looking at a value we think is kph but is actually mph. Wouldn’t that be a shame? 😏
      Of course its all immaterial anyway since you’d never break the speed limit...

      teapotone I was dead set on getting a GSA but after seeing TMF’s video yesterday I was really disappointed how he was treated. Especially given what they charge for a replacement shock. It seem to have been sorted now but only after public shaming and not everyone has a massive TH-cam presence to back them up. 🤔. Having said all that the GS is easily the best all round bike out there at the moment so perhaps I will get one after all 😉

    • @teapotone
      @teapotone  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You’ll always hear the horror stories Derv, they make newsworthy headlines and are what people remember.
      Don’t forget the GS/GSA has been up there as one of the highest selling bikes for year after year after year, they literally can’t sell enough of them, so there are tens of thousands of GS/GSA owners out there who’ve not had any significant issues with either their bikes or dealerships.
      I always take the line of thought that something will go wrong with a bike at some point, I’m not that bothered about that. But when it does go wrong I EXPECT the dealership to go out of its way to assist me (as a customer, not as someone who has a social media presence). That is how I measure service and that’s what will stick in my mind and govern whether they get my repeat business or not.
      TMF has undoubtedly received bad service from his dealership. I’m astounded by that to be honest, what a huge own goal by them as the repercussions would’ve been massive in terms of their reputation.
      However it still doesn’t change my own opinion of the bikes themselves, if you’re that way inclined, the GS/GSA is VERY hard to beat. 😉👍

    • @TheDervMan
      @TheDervMan 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      teapotone I currently ride an ‘07 GS so you don’t have to tell me how good they are 😬👍🏻 I just can’t get the craving for a GSA out my head. 🤯🙈. Looking forward to a full review as that dash looks fantastic.

    Congratulations TP1. Totally understand where you're coming from when it comes to bike/dealer choice. My preference is Triumph and from day one I've gone to Woods in Abergele even though there's another Triumph dealer just down the road in Chester. Always been spot on with me and went the extra mile when a dozy madame reversed into my bike three weeks before I was due to trade it in. There's a LOT to be said for good customer service. Looking forward to watching your adventures with Helga and checking out the new buffs. Happy riding mate.

  • @ozjohnno

    one thing..... Make sure you get a guard for the oil/water radiators. A mate of mine brought 2 R1200 adventures in brisbane, and on the long ride back to melbourne (+1000 miles) she picked up a stone which went through the radiator and finished her ride then and there. so get radiator guards

    • @teapotone
      @teapotone  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep got them. Worth getting a headlight guard too as they are £1,000 if you crack the headlight!!!

    just found this channel...very interesting I must say,this is the bike to do a rtw trip on :) don't know how you managed to do it on the gixer my god my wrist and back would be finished...big respect for that one. I did go with my dad to Pakistan and back from London 3 times by motorbike before...once in 1992 on a xl250 I was on the back I was 12 years old, then again in 94 on a cb250rs pillion again then again in 96 on a Honda cx500 with sidecar much more comfortable lol my dad has done the trip 10 times in total 8 times by motorbike and twice in a 4x4 jeep... what a experience I had it was epic come to think about the things we went through on the road..
    I want to travel do a trip somewhere on a bike I've got a 929 fireblade but I wouldn't do it on that bike rather a upright bike like yours or Africa twin or tenere. problem is the UK don't issue the carnet anymore so I don't see how I can do the same trip as Iran and Pakistan you need a carnet

      I've just started to look into doing something like this so it's early days but thanks for the information I didn't know about the website am sure to check it now

    Stunning machine Bruce. That dash is just the dogs danglies. Shame our dealers are not more accomodating when it comes to test rides. I was really worried about parting with my beloved ZX12r to buy a Multistrada 1200 without test riding it. But I did all the research I could and took a punt and bought it. Glad I did now as I love the Multi. If you are in the North East of England I will gladly have a bit blast about with you. Keep up the great work on your vids. Avid follower.

      For helmet audio I just use a cheap lavalier mic wired directly into the Drift Ghost-S, mounted on the side of my lid. The mic itself is located inside the chin section of the lid and has a ‘Deadcat’ or windsock attaches to minimise wind noise.

    Love it. Random one but would you ever go back to a sportbike after being away from them or do you reckon the GS is a lot more fun? I had sportbike a for years and found it was starting to get a chore, moved to a triple r and now an rs and feel rejuvenated and exciting about riding again.

    • @teapotone
      @teapotone  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I still do love Sportsbikes, and I’d love to try the new GSX-R1000R, but they’ve a time and a place for me.
      For general all round biking I can’t better the GS at the mo. But when I went to France and road the huge fast sweeping bends and straights they have there, I was sat on the big adventure bikes flat out and quite frankly I felt bored! That’s where the Sportsbikes come into their own - out and out high speed balls to the wall riding. But how often do you get to do that on public roads? 👍

    Hey Teapot, I'm looking at the k1600 and the GS for the wife and I. What are your thoughts?

    • @teapotone
      @teapotone  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends what you want from the bike bud? The GS offers more character from the boxer engine (if you like that) more grunt low down, more versatility if you want the option to do dirt roads etc.
      The K1600 allows you to do massive mileage at high speed in comfort, it has a lot more luxury than the GS for both rider and passenger, but the service costs are BIG! The K1600 can handle no problem, but obviously you’re limited to road riding realistically (but obviously you can take it offroad if you’re mental).
      For me if it could only be one bike for two-up riding, I’d still go for the 1250GS but I’d go for the GSA for 2-up as there is a bit more weather protection etc

  • @armageddion
    @armageddion 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Why did you choose rallye over the GSA? I understand the benefits over the regular GS but with your love of touring I'd imagine you could benefit from larger tank, etc..

    • @teapotone
      @teapotone  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve never ever needed a 30litre tank, even riding around the world a 20ltr tank would be fine.
      The GSA is a lot heavier and more top heavy, yet it’s the same engine, so the GSA is slower and less agile than the GS.
      The GS just rides nicer than the GSA, it’s more flickable and dynamic, whereas the GSA rides more like the older Triumph 1200 Explorer.

      I’d spoken with him about his problems with his GS actually. These things happen though, however it’s how the dealership deals with them that is the key for me.
      The service he got from his BMW dealership sounds pretty shoddy to be frank. I appreciate it’s out of warranty, but I’d expect more from them, and to not fit a second hand part is ridiculous.
      Now his bike is out of warranty, he’s free to go anywhere he likes without any fallback 👍

  • @michaeljohnson-li5nn
    @michaeljohnson-li5nn 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Fine looking bike you have, really like the TFT instrument cluster, it looks to be a big improvement over the speedo cluster on the earlier models. I found actually trying to read the speedo was extremely difficult and was the main reason that caused me in having to attend a speed awareness course for being caught doing 36 MPH in a 30 zone. To be absolutely fair the course was very well run and was extremely interesting, and it has changed my opinion regarding the dangers associated with excess speed. Quick question - I find that my 2015 GS1200 TE develops a strange noise from the front fork area when I hit about 30 MPH, the BMW dealership attributes this to the choice of front tyre. Is your new bike the same? Any weird noises from the front end of the bike?

    • @teapotone
      @teapotone  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Michael,
      Can’t say I’ve ever noticed a strange noise at all? I have heard people say that different tyres can cause excessive road noise, but not something that particularly bothers me to be honest.
      The new tft dash is brilliant, but unfortunately it means the ‘blurring’ tool is needed in a LOT of my videos 😬👍

    Laguna's still haven't changed, I passed my bike test last year and went to them to test ride a bunch of bikes to try and find my first bike. Now at 41yrs young I wasn't expecting to be treated like a young time waster (I have quite a youthful appearance, only the grey hair gives me away). I was able to test ride 2 bikes and both times they acted like I was imposing on their time or they had somewhere better to be and were generally pretty rude, needless to say I wasn't going to give them my hard earned cash. I got so annoyed the 3rd time I had a test ride booked in, turned up and they wouldn't let me out on it, I was so annoyed by it I got the branch sales manager over and showed him on my bank I had funds to buy any bike in there I wanted but I was going to go elsewhere. They are known around Kent for being pretty poor on the customer service front, but I've also have friends who have used them for years and swear by them. I am Scottish as well so maybe they just don't like us hahaha

      Unfortunately you get Gremlin bikes, or ‘Friday afternoon bikes’. My Triumph Explorer 1200 was one - yet my 4 mates who all bought identical bikes at the same time from the same dealer, none of them had any issues at all.
      These things happen, but for me it’s how a dealership deals with it that really matters. For me personally, no dealership, other than Haslemere Motorcycles down near Petersfield, has matched the service I get at Coopers BMW. 👍
