  • Not sure what is going on but my truck seems to keep eating spur gears. I am pretty upset about it now.

    We need forged steel gears! Instead of the powdered metal crud!

      One thing to consider about this problem is, did they do this as an intentional weak point to save from breaking other things in the drive line? Either way, a set of machined gears would be nice to have sooner than later.

    • @jeffjensen7318
      @jeffjensen7318 ปีที่แล้ว

      Plus Traxxas should have put the cush drive system in this truck and then I think the truck would be excellent and not tearing up spur gear and pinion gears all the time. I haven't had this issue with my Traxxas Max and I have beaten the crap out of that at skate parks

    Trexxas should be ashamed too sell this truck with this problem. All the money we paid for I broke 5 gears

      Yeah def was a let down. I paid a lot to get it to be a real truck. I got it to be solid now and is def a fun. Let down in stock form for sure.

    Did you add any lube or grease with the new gear ? And how is it holding up with the new one? Still battling my mind if I should get the Sledge or E-revo.

    Had this happen with about 30 minutes of run time on my first pack running the truck. Flat ground running for 15 minutes or so and then hit 4 jumps and toasted the gear. I called Traxxas support and they sent a new spur gear out the next day at no charge. Had it by the next weekend, ran the truck again for about 40 minutes with no problems. My mistake was I didn't pre-trip the truck to make sure screws were tight. I went through and checked all the screws going into metal, every one of them took an extra 1/8 to 1/4 turn by hand no problem. When I found this on the motor mount I knew exactly what happened. The block you see labeled 13/52 is just a spacer to give exact gear mesh, it's more for the factory assembly and those new to the hobby that don't know how to properly do their gear mesh. I'm wondering if this spacer is not quite right, it didn't give me a passable gear mesh on the first attempt. I loosened all the mount bolts and got a better gear mesh with just a little pressure against the spacer. After doing this, it passed the paper test just fine.

    I pulled the screws out one at a time and hit them with blue loctite. I’ve run 3 packs now and haven’t had an issue but haven’t really been bashing it hard either. Hope the aftermarket comes up with a better solution soon

    I ran into this as well. two weeks to get the gears from my LHS. but the only thing I think was a cause was the motor mounting screws on the bottom of the car come loose so then the motor moves on a bad landing and the mesh is gone.

    I'm only at the part where you start stripping it down so you might already find the issue but my thoughts are the motor positioning, you can get inserts to go in the ovals and hold the motor positioning more precisely they are very cheap can't hurt to try.....

    no one should buy the car until traxxas puts better metal and esc in his car. and I say honestly I am not a traxxas fan but the sledge looks good and I would like to have it but here in nl it costs 819 euros, then I think the car should be made with good quality material. buy a car from 819 and everything breaks on car unbelievably

    • @robertkhan6599

      Mine was fully stock never touched anything and stripped twice under light driving. There is literally a gear adapter that sets the mesh so there’s nothing to really mess up other than the motor mount screws being tight which were checked both times.

    This is not acceptable for a 1/8 scale with $800 price tag, my mini maxx still have the oem plastic spur, I jumps it a little more that a year now, it is still fine.
    Until now, Traxxas still not good at 1/8 scale market.

    Also it could be debris being sucked up through the center deff vent acting like a vacuum effect causing this premature wear.

  • @jeffjensen7318
    @jeffjensen7318 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think it would be even tougher and not eating up spur gears and pinion gears all the time if Traxxas actually put the Kush drive in this truck but they did not. I have the Traxxas Max and that has the Kush drive system in that and I have yet to replace the opinion or spur gear and I bash and jump that all the time even at skate parks.

      I think traxxas didn't look in to the arrma fanboys feedback or on the arrma vehicles before they make the sledge, traxxas probably only listen to their our fanboys, thats why. Arrma and some other companies have more experience on this kind of 1/8 scale vehicles, that's why the exb is born on the arrma line.

    • @yyckey5022

      It's "sintered metal" and it's 1/10th the cost of a machine cut hardened steel gears. I've been messaging traxxas about using this crap for years. It's a way for traxxas executives to make more money on replacement and upgrade parts.

  • @mikescallon4288

    Such a horrible vechile. You can hear it when you drive it, the gear are abnormally loud. It sounds like someone is being murdered. I know metal gear are louder but this is not because of that. This is because everything from the motor mount to the gears to the motor are inherently flawed. This does not happen with the Xrt or Maxx. They messed this one up. Not to mention it is near impossible to use a larger pinion without additional parts and spending additional money.
